Silver Apricot New York Reviews from The Last Year
The sad news of Silver Apricot's imminent closing (8/11/24)
The sad news of Silver Apricot's imminent closing (8/11/24) spurred me to finally write a review, about one month late. This New-American-Chinese restaurant is worth a visit before its closing. Located on Cornelia St. directly across from Taylor Swift's former West Village residence (still a tourist attraction) and next door to its sister restaurant Figure Eight, it's a petite narrow space, less than 10 tables indoors plus a patio in the rear. I actually had reserved at Figure Eight, but they closed suddenly on my reservation date to mourn the unexpected death of chef James Kent, a mentor, so my reservation was moved to Silver Apricot. I would dine another day at Figure Eight. Silver Apricot's menu consists of small plates that may sound somewhat familiar to traditional Chinese dishes, but are fancied-up/amplified. I went with the Just Trust Us option, a multi-course chef-selected tasting menu of dishes off the a la carte menu. It was a lot of food for a solo diner but a great way to try many dishes. It seems the Just Trust Us menu selections can vary from table to table. My menu included their famous scallion puffs, cucumber salad, early summer melons, wagyu tartare, grilled summer squash, crispy turnip cake, sweet and sour snapper, spring market cheung fun, and their strawberry calpico sundae dessert. Every dish was excellent, as was the service. I'm not a local, so this visit was alas my one and only to Silver Apricot, and I'll remember it fondly.

I have been wanting to try Silver Apricot for a while, so when I heard they were closing, I made a res ASAP. Like many others, I thought the scallion puffs were really yummy and a sleeper hit for me were their twist on deviled eggs. We also got the moo shoo mushrooms, turnip cake, flake crudo, summer melon, and summer squash. They've got. Really interesting wine list and the service there was great - glad I got here before they "retire."
One of the best dinners I've had in a while.
Super friendly people, great wine, and absolutely delicious food.
Silver Apricot is a fancier spot with very little seating.
It is Asian fusion tapas style, and the food is decent, fairly yummy, but not worth the value. My favorite dishes (ones that were worth it) is the cold chili chicken and the scallion puffs. The crispy turnip cake was the most disappointing as it was $19 but not really better or more exciting than regular turnip cake. I think the food, overall was good, but for the value, I would not return as it wasn't good or special enough.
Extremely small portions with high prices.
While the flavors are generally good it's really too much of a rip off.
Cozy and intimate date spot that serves delicious
Cozy and intimate date spot that serves delicious Chinese-inspired small plates. Our favorites were the wagyu tartare (no words), the trout fried rice (so simple yet so delicious with crunchy rice bits... we were obsessed), and the strawberry-calpico sundae (seems like just a normal sundae at first but has hints of savoriness and almost tasted ricey which i really like!!). We also got the fluke crudo, (light and served as a good palette cleanser before the heavier dishes) + deviled tea eggs (so much flavor, though a little mustardy) + the berkshire pork short rib (good char and grilled well but nothing too special). You can choose plates a la carte, or trust the chef for a surprise course meal for $98 pp. They also serve a little wrapped cookie at the end, which seemed like their take of a fortune cookie! Overall I loved this space so much, it wasn't too intense or loud but still very date-y vibes. Service was great too!

I kid you not when I say that this is probably some of the best food I've had in New York for a while. My friend and I ordered the scallion puffs, crispy turnip cake, spring custard, pork ribs, and fried rice (didn't get pictures of the turnip cake or fried rice because I guess I completely forgot). I'm pretty skeptical of Asian fusion because it usually doesn't end up being flavorful enough. You don't have to worry about that here. My friend and I looked at each other with jaws dropped after our first bite. We finished our meal with the coconut panna cotta. I would say this wasn't my favorite because there were some sour elements incorporated into the dessert. I'm personally just not a fan of tart or sour in my dessert, but I can attest to the panna cotta portion being delicious and creamy. The service here was great. Our waiter was attentive and always asked if there was something we needed. I was able to snag a patio seat in their backyard area and I love the space so much. It felt more casual and like a getaway space from the city.
Just needed a snack and the Brioche here is delicious!
I stopped in at Silver Moon Bakery during the later part of the day and there was a nice but small selection of pastries. Being in the early afternoon, there was nothing I had not tried before so I settled on a Brioche. It was wonderful! I ended up saving for the next day and warmed it up. With a little butter, it made the perfect breakfast. I could not believe how buttery and delicious it was. The quality and the service in this West Side Bakery is top notch. The register guy got a little mixed up with the order when I asked about an eclair but I knew that would not travel well. There is the next time to try that and looking forward to it.
We chose "Just Trust Us".
And our trust was rewarded. Part 1: The Scallion Puffs were flaky, bite-sized rolls of divination. The Moo Shu Mushrooms made my fungal fantasies real. Hell, even the Deviled Tea Eggs felt angelic (see what I did there?). Part 2: Our Fluke Crudo was a lovely marriage of tart fish and puffed rice. The Honey Walnut Shrimp Toast should be patented because who else has figured out that kumquat and trout roe go PERFECTLY with it? Even the very basic American Wagyu Bavette was all that jazzed up with chrysanthemum and furu. Part 2.5: Technically part of "2", but this dish deserves its own line. The Late-Season Mogwa Salad: What the actual fudge is this? It was greener than Scrooge McDuck's money pile. It was crunchier than the first kettle chips out of the frier. It was more savory than late-night tonkotsu ramen. I loved so many things about this unassuming bowl of veggies that I wanted to lick the bowl when I was done (but abstained due to the presence of polite company). Part 3: Coconut Panna Cotta. Don't be fooled because she may seem like your typical selfish, back-stabbing, fruit-faced, sno-bag, but in reality, she's so much more than that. She comes with sour apple granita and coconut crisp, and goddamit, I would let her Burn Book me every day if I could just have more. I'd always avoided Silver Apricot because I'd heard it was an overpriced, underwhelming Chinese fusion spot that was a less hot version of Figure Eight. Those rumors are wrong. I'm glad I splurged. And don't ask me why I incorporated Mean Girls into this review. I'm still dreaming about that panna cotta.
The restaurant has a nice vibe.
It's small but has comfortable seating and very few tables which makes for an intimate experience. Our server was friendly and made our experience wonderful. It almost felt as if we were dining in a really pretty friend's dining room. So you may ask why three stars instead of four or five? Well, it's pricy, which makes this a one and done place. And for the price I paid for my share I should leave wanting to come back. We ordered the family style experience which at eighty eight dollars per person is on the high end but totally worth it if the food is excellent and portions are large enough. We were a group of five and while every bite was delicious and expertly prepared the fish dish and waygu beef dishes were microscopic. Each one of us had one bite of beef and maybe two bites of fish. We ordered two bottles of wine and it cost roughly $160 per person, so figure roughly $300 for two. The price for the protein portion size just did not match.
Wine bar with what I'd consider a Szechuan / Japanese
Wine bar with what I'd consider a Szechuan / Japanese fusion menu. Super thoughtful restaurant. Walked in on a weeknight and were seated immediately. Menu has about fifteen items. It's tapas style and everything was intriguing, so we decided to order the chef's choice tasting menu. Menu was one of the most creative I've encountered. It was a cold night, so we started with a cup of hot tea. They had a green tea and a red oolong. I had the green tea and was impressed with the quality which set high expectations for the meal. The first course included the scallion puffs, the deviled tea eggs, and the (I believe) squash salad. Puffs came with a green scallion butter which was pretty interesting. The tea eggs had a bold yet subtly smokey flavor. The salad might have been my favorite of the group. Vinegar and acid forward which balanced out the savory and saltiness of the other items in the first course. I also liked the textural contrast in the salad between the crisp squash and the crunchy crullers in the salad. Next came (intentionally) cold chicken with an herb sauce and chili oil. Sauce and oil were both very flavorful, so it was rather clever to serve the chicken cold which made it subdued allowing the other flavors to stand out. This dish was paired with toast topped with mayoed shrimp, roe, and (I believe) fennel. This was one of my favorite dishes. The structure and simplicity reminded me of a Pret sandwich but significantly elevated. Roe had a pleasant burst when biting into it. A mild flavor on the palate yet a surprisingly long finish. Next course was crispy fried rice along with sweet and sour snapper. I tasted eel with the fried rice but it appeared to be scallop. Definitely some oceanic flavor to it. Really liked the crispy bits. This was high on umami. The snapper was served over a carrot purée and topped with carrot and peppers. Second to last was the Mapo squash rice cakes. Rice cakes were soft and chewy yet had a crispy sear to them. As expected with a Mapo dish, it had spiciness to it. Another dish with some bold flavor. For dessert, we had the almond osmanthus cake with buttercream served with a pear sorbet. The sorbet had candied ginger providing a surprising brightness to the course. The sweetness was surprisingly mild making it an unexpected finish. Pacing of the courses was nice. Nice breaks in between to chat with your companion(s) and appreciate their wines. Service was helpful and accommodating. There was one gender neutral restroom. It was handicap accessible and had a Toto washlet toilet enhancing the experience.
What I love about Silver Apricot is the "let the chef
What I love about Silver Apricot is the "let the chef decide" option. We didn't have to think about what to order and we were served a bunch of selections from the menu to share, without the decision making. I appreciated that it led to me trying dishes I typically wouldn't order. The wine menu, particularly the natural wines, is very extensive. It seems like they rotate wines which is fun! The restaurant is small, though they have a back patio area. Reservations are easy to snag a few days in advance.
We liked everything we ate and found the dishes a little
We liked everything we ate and found the dishes a little inventive and non-traditional. The portions are not huge, but they were fine for splitting with another person and each getting a couple bites. We were a party of two and had 8 dishes (thats including dessert) and left full. We didn't need more, but could have tired one more thing if we wanted. With a glass of wine each our bill ended up $100 a person with tip. We ordered the Scallion Puffs, Mogwa Salad, Turnip Cakes, Mushoo Mushrooms, Mapo Squash Rice Cakes and the Buvette Steak. I would order all of it again, but my favorite was the Rice Cakes and my partner loved the Turnip Cake. The Mushoo Mushrooms were a close second and I also loved the Mogwa salad. The steak was under done for our taste, we like Medium Rare and I would say this was very rare/uncooked in the center. It tasted good, and I would order it again but ask for it to be slightly more done. The main reason I give Silver Apricot 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service was just fine - cool, not warm and inviting. It wasn't really a hospitality vibe, and I didn't feel like they were out to make us have the best night we could. It was more like, we are doing our job and thats enough. I feel like a warmer and more thoughtful and engaged service would really help make this a special night. The restaurant is cute and small and felt a touch Parisian in decor to me. Good for a date night, although not much privacy between tables (as a NYer I'm used to that). I definitely suggest going. I'm sure we will be back.

Terrific food, good cocktails, solid service -- highly recommend this excellent spot for a date night!
The food is okay but far too overpriced.
The scallion puffs are the only redeeming factor about my entire meal there. The Peking duck grilled cheese is 100% not worth the price, a complete rip-off (see attached). The crudo is completely average and is not all that special. The soy milk marinade flavor just doesn't come together all that much. If you decide to go just get the scallion puffs only.
We had a lovely meal, with amazing service, but the
We had a lovely meal, with amazing service, but the price/person of the family style menu did not provide enough food to leave us feeling satiated. We had also asked for a bottle of wine and gave the wait staff our price limit. When we got our bill, the bottle of wine was more expensive than what we had requested. I would return but pay closer attention to the prices and would not order family style.
Silver Apricot Food 8/10 An interesting take on Chinese
Silver Apricot Food 8/10 An interesting take on Chinese cuisine. It did taste good, a recombination of familiar flavors, but also the price tag that came along with makes me view this restaurant as a one-time experience. I really liked the chicken and scallion puffs, but I do also think there is no need to return when there are plenty of amazing restaurants in Chinatown that serve authentic Chinese food. Atmosphere 9/10 Gorgeously decorated interior, I loved the space. A very narrow and long restaurant, with not too many seatings. I liked the pillows. Service 9/10 Good service, nothing to complain about.

RUN DON'T WALK !! Everything we tried was to die for -- scallion puffs with butter, kampachi crudo, peking duck grilled cheese, scallop XO fried rice, and the mushrooms. I don't know how they do it, but everything is so flavorful and super creative. 11/10

Had the family tasting menu which were all Asian fusion inspired. Pretty creative and we're playing around with some unique flavors. The stars were the scallion bread with scallion butter and the teboki.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
