Absolutely loved my time at Silo! Bottomless mimosas for $16 and they mean BOTTOMLESS! Super nice staff and great service! And the food was delicious!! Definitely on my top brunch spots list!
Be the first to ReplyThe staff was great.
Very accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable. The building has a cool industrial or underground vibe. However the food was average at best. Nothing to write home to mother about. They could make some major improvements to their menu that would help immensely. For example with the chicken and waffles: the chicken was perfectly cooked but lacked real flavor, the waffles were soft and tasted like they came from a mix (artificially sweet) and the "side salad" took up 2/3 of the plate. Lose one of the two waffles, make the one waffle slightly bigger, make sure it's crisp (hell add some bacon to the batter). Add a little salt, pepper and paprika to the batter for the chicken. Add a gravy or Nashville style hot sauce for topping (optional) maybe even a sunny side up egg too, and for God's sake lose half of the salad on the plate. Arugula or another bitter green with an acidic dressing would be better suited as a side than spinach and the sweet vinaigrette. Likely if I go back it will be for the bottomless mimosas and good company.

when i came here this place had a low reviews, but i was desperate for a bottomless brunch and my friends & i decided to try it out. this place was amazing!! the drinks were great, and our glasses were always full because of the amazing service. the food was also delicious. we tried the silo burger, chicken and waffles, and the basic. i 100% recommend this place for anyone who is trying to do a bottomless brunch.

This place is close to my job, and very convenient for work HHs. However, 6/7 times I've been here there's been a serious issue with the staff. Today, the young woman pictured (Virginia ?) disrespected our entire party and assumed we wouldn't cover our tab! Needless to say, the service is sub-par, and is every time we come. Sucks because the place has a nice atmosphere, ok food, but most importantly it's really close to work! Really upset about the lack of respect my friends and I received, and this isn't the first time. WORD TO MANAGEMENT: Train your staff tired of the attitudes round here!

Be the first to ReplyMy girlfriend and I have passed by this establishment
My girlfriend and I have passed by this establishment numerous times while in transit to some other restaurant in Chinatown, always curious whether it would be worth scoping out. Finally, on one fine Saturday morning, we decided to give it a go.Upon entering, my first impression was that I'd enjoy my overall experience, and perhaps had found my newest haunt. The interior felt homely, and apologetically rustic and run-down. The walls were exposed brick with little to nothing covering them, and the bathroom door had a gaping hole in to, patched up with nothing more than tape. This personally appealed to me. In my experience, all the good places tend to have a rustic vibe to them. The added benefit for the owner's is that this reduces maintenance costs :).The bartender, without so much as a greeting swiftly distributed menus and took our drink orders. This part doesn't bother me. I'm a man of few words, and I prefer brevity. I'm here to eat, not make friends. However, the experience swiftly declined after that, not unlike my 401k over the past few days. What started out as a dull, manageable roar of easy going brunch conversation climaxed into an obnoxious cacophony of mimosa-fueled screaming from fellow patrons towards the end of our stay. The restaurant isn't spacious, and the bare walls that I once admired do little to soak up the noise (they probably amplified it, actually). What's more, for reason totally lost on me, the restaurant decided to TURN UP the volume on what was once background (now competing with patrons for foreground) noise. Logically, this resulted in individuals having to speak even louder, as to be successfully understood. By the end, I had to shout directly into the ear of my fellow party member, just to state how irritated I was. Even then, I was treated to the totally understandable "WHAT!?" in response. As for the food, simply put: underwhelming for the price. We started out with the Smoked Salmon Bruschetta, which came with the awkward, odd number of three. This means that someone must be stuck being the "fat one" and finish off the last item. Also, each piece rested upon an abnormally large slice of bread. As a food that I typically think of as bite-sized, this made for an odd eating experience. I suppose that you could cut each of the three whole pieces in half, resulting in six total, thus solving the odd number and large size issues at the same time. But, who wants to think at brunch? For the main course, girlfriend decided on the Granola & Yogurt Parfait while I nominated the Steak & Eggs. To the chef's credit, they did successfully grill a medium-rare steak, as requested. The eggs were sunny-side up as well. But, I still felt the $18.00 price tag was unjustified. The meal felt dull and unsatisfying, as if something were just missing from the experience. The cut felt cheap, generic, and sinewy. It seemed that I'd have more success cutting the meat with a chainsaw in place of the provided steak knife. I did not sample my partner's dish, but it was only $8, so it didn't bother me whether or not it was also sub-par (how can you screw up yogurt, anyway?).In conclusion, if you do decide to visit this location, I'd suggest that you treat it more like a place to grab drinks with friends, rather than somewhere to sit down and enjoy a meal. The food experience just isn't there, especially when so many places in DC get that part right. And remember bring a healthy pair of lungs and "say it from your chest!". Otherwise, the noise will drown you out.

I've walked past this bar for the better part of a year and I've always been curious about it, but never had time to stop in. Last night I bit the bullet and visited.Part of the reason it caught my interest is because of the exposed brick and wood distressed aesthetic. The menu ties in with that vision, with paper and clipboard menus. The food options aren't anything to write home about, and are pretty standard bar fare nowadays - Brussels, wings, fries, etc. I was pretty hungry, and feeling bold, so I ordered the fisherman's stew. The dish is a tomato based stew with mussels, scallops, shrimp, and a whitefish, and mixed veggies, served with a hard bread. It wasn't bad, but it was a lot more bland than I'd have preferred. The bartender asked if I wanted hot sauce, and I strongly suggest anyone ordering this take her up on that offer. The drink menu is decent, and they have an interesting coffee stout that I really enjoyed. I may have to come back here. But I don't think it would be a destination when I'm in the area the way some other bars in the Mass Ave area are. Honestly that's a shame because the space is so nice and so large, I would love to use it for an event at some point.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food! Local bar.
Very chill and affordable. The steak and the meatloaf are so worth it!
Be the first to ReplyI've given this place 2 chances, but will not return.
They don't seem to care enough about customer retention for me to give them my hard-earned money. Food is mediocre and they skimp on ingredients (e.g. my shrimp & grits had exactly 4 pieces of shrimp buried under plenty of grits), noise level is ABSURD (crowd tends to skew towards college-aged kids, and the bottomless mimosas don't help, but Silo also turns up the music in an apparent attempt to drown out the noise, turning every conversation into a shouting match. If you want a disco with bad food, this is definitely your place!), and the staff is perpetually over-extended and unfriendly. We last tried this place just yesterday, but didn't even get to order, because a snarky remark from the waitress made me basically put my coat back on and walk out. We waited a few good minutes after being seated at the bar (all the tables were full with what looked like college kids or younger) until she finally came around, and, without saying anything, slapped 2 menus in front of us. I asked if it was always this noisy (a normal question - we could have returned at a later time or on a different day if she had said some days/times are noisier) and I guess she took it as a personal insult, because she went "well, there are a lot of people in here, so if you put two and two together instead of having an attitude..." and then walked away. I looked at my husband, he seemed as perplexed as I was, and we decided to leave. When she came back, she asked if we weren't going to order. Uhm...we're putting our clothes back on! If you put two and two together, you'll figure it out. I just politely, but coldly responded that yes, we were leaving. Advice to the managers: train your staff, hire more of them, and lower the music levels. Or just change your business name to "disco with food", instead of "restaurant". To the waitress: learn some customer service skills. I didn't make you take a service job. We had brunch instead at the Ottoman Taverna, not far, where there were two equally full long tables, and several others with families (including small children), but the sound level was that of normal, polite conversation, and the music was barely perceptible - so no, crowded restaurants do NOT have to be loud. But apparently the folks at Silo aren't familiar with that notion.
Be the first to ReplyI honestly don't know how this place is still in business.
If you want a bar, it's fine. If you want a restaurant, do yourself a favor and skip it. Every time I've gone service is horrible or non existent. The place is dirty. I don't mean from the day's business. I mean like it is never thoroughly cleaned. I live on the block. I tried. Go for after work drinks and leave.
