Shuko New York Reviews from The Last Year
Splurged here for an anniversary dinner.
At $270/pp without drinks, tip, and tax, it is pretty pricy but so worth it. Each pair gets their own omakase chef. The cuts of fish are amazing. Each one has special sauce and is absolutely spectacular. This is the best omakase in the city, hands down. Drinks are great too. Music is hip hop and fun to listen to.
I was expecting the seating I requested to be accommodated.
It wasn't. When I asked for the manager, the girl who approached me was incredibly rude, and had a serious attitude. Tall girl, skinny, teeth like horse. Clearly no people skills. It was quite obvious she's either new, or had never done this type of work before. Food was overpriced, and nothing special. Music was loud and inconsistent. Poor taste, whoever chose it. Won't be back. Especially after how that manager conducted herself.
This is my favorite omakase sushi spot in NYC! Their toro
This is my favorite omakase sushi spot in NYC! Their toro tartare with caviar on milkbread is mouthwatering... seriously, I dream about this dish at night! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Fish is super fresh and all their ingredients are top-of-the-line in quality. Their plum sake is also delicious!
Delicious sushi & wonderful Omakase
We had the pleasure of dining here from Luka say with our two adult sons, and their girlfriends. We had a private room, and the service was outstanding else was the food. The sake sommelier was very helpful with recommendations. We’ve done Omakase and a number of other cities including Tokyo and this was right up there. Highly recommend and reservations are necessary.
Service was great.
Nice atmosphere. Food left something to be desired. Went with my husband and the bill for omakase with alcohol pairing came to $1200. I left feeling underwhelmed and overcharged. So many omakase are have the price and twice as good.
I was a SHUKO raver when it first opened.
It was beautiful. The sushi was different and special. But Mr Kim now disappoints. The sushi is very underwhelming. For $270 omakase we should demand better. I'm going to have to look for a replacement. I'm sorry I used to regale them but this is my second mediocre omakase. I'm done.
I think the place has lost a bit of its luster since it
I think the place has lost a bit of its luster since it opened 7-8 years ago. The hype and originality has passed and now it's a place for bankers and those that want to be seen. Having said that, the quality of the fish is still high, the portions are generous, and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine list and sake we ordered. For those looking for a more traditional omakase experience, I'd recommend elsewhere like Ginza Onodera or Kanoyama. The ordering of the nigiri was also unconventional as well: they served toro early on in the meal when heavier pieces are usually saved for last. This place is fun, the toro + caviar toast is delicious, and it's a more laid back place versus stuffy traditional edomae sushi places. Best to take your gringo friends who can't tell the difference . Multiple sushi chefs churning out nigiri, so there won't be too much pleasantries. The bill will set you back, but you'll leave having a great time. Music is on point.
Excellent value omakase
Difficult to find an omakase in NYC that offers such value for the quality ingredients they have in offer. At 200 plus USD it sounds like a lot but when you actually try it and realise the amount of food and the quality it starts to look positively like a bargain. Very very good experience

How do I deposit $?

I've earned $150 in a transaction and am not able to send this to my account. It's been rejected 3 times because I'm asking for too much?
The customer support function has provided zero responses and there are so many fees on the deposit process. What the heck? Has anyone been able to withdraw $ from earned bids?

You can only deposit $50 at a time until you earn the “Sales and Low Refund Medal” I believe. Im new to this as well but the ability to deposit more money at once and increase your amount of listings comes with that medal.

Someone else posted that they were only able to transfer $50 at a time so maybe that’s why it says you’re asking for too much. I haven’t sold anything yet so I have no personal experience but I would try $50.
