One of the best meals I have had in DC.
Excellent service and delightful cuisine. The open kitchen is nice too!

Dined on a Wednesday, snagging a chef's 7-course tasting menu for dinner. The staff was very welcoming, from check-in to being seated and orientated with the menu. Stellar service all around! I challenged the mixologist with a spirit-forward, herbaceous cocktail, which she invented with precision and flavor! Each dish was articulated with a story (or fun fact), from the Orchard Point oysters' origin to the creation of the French onion soup. The Ovoka Farms wagyu short rib was perfection and the highlight of the evening. The chocolate bomb and key lime tiramisu (yes, two desserts) were light but savory, with just enough sweetness to satisfy a craving. Exceptionally well-executed chef's tasting menu. Reid and staff, BRAVO! Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFrom start to finish a five star dining experience.
We started with the delicious ham biscuits, had the fried chicken and short ribs for our main course. The fried chicken was a huge tasty portion! Perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy on the inside. The short rib was tender and flavorful. Not one bite was left on the plate. We ended the meal with the Key Lime Pie, it was too good to share. As great at the food experience was, by far, the service made this dining experience one of the most memorable. Jonathan and Lay felt like new found friends by the end of the evening. Can't wait to go back when we're in DC again.

The highlight of Shilling Canning is Conor the mixologist! She can make any and everything, and can educate you on the drinks. She is friendly, professional, and just has a genuinely good attitude. She makes you feel like you're a guest at her house. Okay now let me get away from the Conor show and talk about the restaurant...Service: Friendly and ProfessionalFood: Good (I can only judge dessert)Ambiance: Very NiceNoise Level: Moderate Location: GreatThey have brunch, lunch and dinner.
Be the first to ReplyTime and time again this place has exceeded my expectations.
The absolute BEST staff, the best food and the most gorgeous interior. Every time I'm in town it's an absolute must to visit. The staff is SO knowledgable and the food is simply incredible. The menu is constantly changing which is amazing because you can always try something new. I'm already excited to go back. Can't recommend this place enough.

Wow, what an experience! I tried the chefs counter and it is definitely an insane amount of food. When you are doing a chef tasting menu, you expect small plates, but I would say you get an entrรฉe sized course for almost every single tasting menu item and you end up being stuffed by the third item because there are a couple of add-ons. I loved our Server and he was very informative. I liked being able to watch the kitchen staff cook, and some highlights from my tasting menu experience include:-amazing deviled eggs-sample of the hot honey and fried chicken-delicious and flaky cod!The desserts were also huge and great - a pumpkin crรจme brulee and a chocolate cake. I would be back!

Was here recently for a brunch - great food, vibes and service. Staff were all around professional and friendly! Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyFour of us went for dinner on a Friday night.
In short, the food was quite good, and the service was not.Two of us had the tasting menu and the quality was high, especially for the duck confit. Two of us had chicken dishes, also quite good. The tasting menu had a wine pairing. Good pairing, however the wine came out significantly after the food did. That is not the idea of a pairing.Champagne was served in a wine glass, not a champagne glass.
Be the first to ReplyDisclaimer: my wife determines where we eat when traveling.
However, I'm alone tonight. "Seafood" sounded good and I chose SCC.What a treat! I chose the three-course meal with salad, trout and Pavlova. Item was an "experience." Great atmosphere, superb service and no doubt the tastiest seafood (actually the entire meal) ever.I'll be back...but not alone.

Enjoyed two great meals and great service. Will return. Get the potatoes to go with the scallops so you can dip.
Be the first to ReplyTwo of the best dinners of our life came from this
Two of the best dinners of our life came from this restaurant within a space of a few months ! To be fair "Wood oven roasted Whole Black Bass (rattlesnake and yellow beans, blistered tomatoes, new potatoes, & basil from our garden)" It isn't always available but be there when it is ! Good wine list. Also, slow cooked lamb a few months ago was the absolutely most wonderful. If you arelooking for 100% perfection this restaurant will offer it more often thanmost. Nice people, good ambience except for bad music selection forfirst rate dining. To be fair, they remedied that for us.Be prepared toknow your food or learn about it. Not for the conservative. This foodwill cheer you up and ponder on the wonderfulness of being alive !Experts on flavour.

Definitely one of my new favorite restaurants! I really enjoyed the 3 course pre-fixe + dozen oysters, funny business mezcal cocktail and my sauvignon blanc. The atmosphere is sophisticated and modern. Good amount of outdoor seating and attentive service. My cocktail was perfectly balanced and I loved the watermelon mignonette for the oysters. The terrine was light, flavorful, and just delicious- roe and asparagus lovers you will enjoy it. Roasted chicken was rustic and the fresh veggies were delightful. I loved the dessert! The butterscotch pot de creme and cookie was the perfect way to end my meal. I will be back for the 7 course chef's tasting!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is quite deceiving.
The beautiful ambiance and location of the restaurant would give you the impression that you'd be fine dining. Now, the servers also are well informed about the menu and ingredients that again, you think you're about to have an amazing experience. Until, you actually try out the food. They have pre-fixe options of three courses or seven. I'm so happy we went with three because I don't think we would've made it.2 stars only because the servers were great. I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone.

In my 20 years of living, I have never been ripped off this bad. We were getting manipulated about what was and was not included on the menu from the moment we sat down. Not only did we get scammed on prices, the food was not good. The group of 4 who ate here decided we could've had better food at Wendy's. Do not come here unless you enjoy subpar food and outlandish pricing. Also, they set gratuity at 22%. This is normally not something to complain about, however we were forced to give a large tip for being lied to. P.S. I downloaded yelp just to warn people about this place. This is my first yelp review and probably my last, because I doubt I'll ever be screwed this bad again.
Be the first to ReplyI was disappointed by Shilling when I ate there soon after
I was disappointed by Shilling when I ate there soon after it opened in 2019. The portions were tiny and the prices too high. Despite that, I thought I would give it another chance as the Yelp reviews are so good. But I can't recommend the place--it's simply too expensive. The fried chicken is fine but ridiculously overpriced, as is the wine by the glass ($15 for a very small pour of rosรฉ). The buckwheat crepes I had for a first course were tiny and anemic, and took far too long to arrive (presumably so I would drain my wine glass and order another). The 22% service charge, as others have observed, is presumptuous and excessive. I enjoy fine dining and don't mind paying for it, but there's nothing about Shilling that justifies the prices. Navy Yard has very few decent options, but you would be far better off going to nearby Solace and enjoying a cold beer, surprisingly delicious food, and a beautiful view of the river for a fraction of the price. For upscale yet comfortable dining that's worth the price, go to Chez Billy Sud or Lutรจce in Georgetown.
Be the first to ReplyA few things 1.
The food was good for the most part but some of the food was just not for me. If you have kids or you have a picky eater, probably not the place for you. 2. Very expensive!! The fried chicken alone was $40, but it was delicious. Same with the truffle fries, very good but $18 for a very small portion. 3. The waiters are so nice! We had John and he was very kind and patient. 4. In a pretty good location. It's usually a pretty quiet area but on the weekend the ice cream shop across the street (amazing) can get busy. 5. Parking is crazy and especially on the weekend. Wheat we did was park at the grocery store across the street almost got free. It's $30 UNLESS you buy something. We just bought water for 79 cents. Overall it's a great place if you want to visiting the area but is more expensive than usual. But still keep on mind picky eaters and kids won't love.

If you're going to charge a presumptuous 22% service fee, you need to actually provide service. Avoid this place.

beautiful atmosphere with friendly service and delicious brunch cocktails! I would definitely come back here!
Be the first to ReplyI was that one person that called 45 min before closing.
They were so nice and whipped up my meal for takeout very quickly, even got mr fresh truffle fries. I haven't even eaten at the restaurant and I'm already so pleased. The food, amazing! Cannot wait to actually dine here. Thanks guys!

We had a party of 4 with no problem getting a last minute reservation. The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone throughly enjoyed their meal. My only complaint was getting our food was slow considering the place wasn't busy.

I booked here to celebrate my partner's birthday on a busy Saturday night. We were looking forward to getting a bunch of oysters to celebrate and try the bone marrow appetizer. The restaurant had sold out of bone marrow the previous night. And the restaurant said they'd rejected that day's oysters for not being high quality enough... it seems silly that a waterfront restaurant only has one source for oysters, especially with the DC fish market so close.I could've booked anywhere for his birthday but that night was too busy in Navy Yard to go anywhere else once we knew none of the food we were so excited about was available. The restaurant brought us cookies as an apology. But it was an incredibly expensive dinner not to have the food we wanted. The manager said he'd "set us up next time" but we've already paid too much at that place to ever consider going back. The regular menu featured classic Baltimore dishes, but I'm from the Baltimore area. And it was tough to pay $45 for the chicken recipe my grandmother made growing up, I could've taken my boyfriend to my home for that. I only ordered the $14 salad for myself which was just a few leaves with a pile of cilantro in the middle in a big chunk. And 22% gratuity was included, which would have be fine if the meal had been what we were hoping for... I certainly always do my best to tip well, I just feel scammed going to an oyster restaurant without oysters for such a special occasion. Overall the bill came to $75. I went home hungry.I suggest avoiding this place if you're set on something from the menu--- they've probably been out for days or never bothered to source it in the first place.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the best meal I've had in DC in a while.
We did the 3 course tasting menu with beverage pairing and every dish was so beautifully prepared. Worth every penny! The only thing that topped the food was the service. Every person we interacted with was personable, kind and committed to providing us with a wonderful experience. I will be back!

Went here a few days ago and it was fabulous! ย I got the tasting menu. Our server was Connie W and she was absolutely amazing!! ย She was knowledge and professional and efficient and friendly. She explained the wine pairing perfectly!! ย Definitely ask for her if you go there! ย I only gave one star because the fluke and the apple crisp cake could use a bit more flavor. The presentation was amazing but the fluke was a bit bland. Also, the amount of wine for each pairing should be a full glass. But other than those small things, I had a wonderful time!!

Amazing brunch prix fixe!!! Our server, Fernando, was awesome - very personable and knowledgeable about the food and where it comes from. The food itself was divine, with the standouts being the Surryano Ham, Deviled Eggs, and Fried Chicken. The Yogurt Parfait Stater with pink lady apples and granola was also superb. Everything was delicious, even the greens served on the side of each main course which I could not stop eating! The whole experience was relaxing and delicious, and we never felt rushed throughout the whole time we were there. We even got to meet the owner and head chef, and he was so friendly and excited that we enjoyed our meal so much. Overall, this is a great place for good quality upscale food without a pretentious atmosphere. We will definitely be back the next time we're in the area!!
