The food is great but...
We had a great meal here with my wife who is from Taiwan and was looking for something Chinese to eat. Overall I can't complain much but the place is very picky about how they get paid. Cash is ideal but they would not accept any major credit cards. Another weird part was wrapping up the meal, our daughter fell asleep so my wife wanted to pack up the meal and take it back to the hotel. This caused the service staff to be a little busier with our table and I could tell that the table beside us was important or some big spenders. In the commotion to get us on our way one of the serving staff tripped on my wife's chair and sent one of the dishes destined to the other table flying to the ground getting some food on people at the next table. We didn't suddenly move the chair or anything but I got the impression that the manager / owner did not want to see us again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Sunday Chinese lunch in Bellevue!
Six of us went to lunch on Sunday. First time I dined here. Nice ambiance and atmosphere, not very noisy like some Chinese restaurants. Parking garage downstairs. Not too crowded on this Sunday. The menu is mostly Shanghai style cuisine. We ordered the xiaolongbao steamed pork buns, ten pieces in a steamer, delicious, better than those I ate at Ding Tai Feng few weeks ago. The spring onion cake is ok, a little doughy and the bottom too chewy. We also ordered assorted dishes such as the sweet/sour spareribs Shanghai style, Taiwanese fried noodles (fine rice noodles), Sichuan style chicken with chilli peppers, yuxiang eggplant, all very tasty. The shredded tofu gan with celery and pork was a little bland, and I wished they had shredded the tofu finer so it can absorb more flavor from the sauce. The service is very good, especially have to compliment the server who could even remember my senior friend's favorite dish and prompted me to order it for him. The price for the lunch is also reasonable. I would definitely go there again, I just wish it is closer to my home.
Be the first to ReplyStay away!
This was my worse dining experience ever. Ordered beef with veggies with my friend and stir fried rice with veggies. My friend's dish came different than ordered. They omitted veggies! When we told our server she found lots of excuses for this mistake. The first one was: the photo of the dish ordered was "just a sample". So I asked the server: "So no matter what we order according to the picture you bring us something different?" She said "yes". I was shocked. When my friend insisted on getting the dish she had ordered the server said the second excuse: "the chef made changes to the dish". Like between our order and bringing the dish to our table? I could not believe this service. The last excuse was that the same dish is on their second menu different (even though we ordered from I guess their first (?) menu). Simply unbelievable. They ended up bringing my friend within few minutes (interesting) the right dish! Not sure what was this about. The quality of our meal was very poor (like the service) I have to say. The meal had no flavor at all! Cannot believe that this place is still open based on many reviews of dishes lacking any flavor (my friend chose this place and I did not read reviews prior our visit sadly). Wanted the experience and eat better than my own cooking, it did not happen. Be aware that at this restaurant you are not getting what you have ordered! Stay away. The customer service I believe is influenced by culture, so they get a pass on that one. Not coming back.
Be the first to ReplyMaybe too authentic for me?
We ordered usual American Chinese fare, and sorry to say that it was not good. Nothing wrong, but lacking flavor, overcooked, poor quality meat cuts. There was a second menu that had more "authentic looking" dishes, most of which are meat intensive cuts that I would not eat. Perhaps those dishes are good, as it seemed to be popular with lots of people and families. If you want AmerChinese, I would not recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyDecent food, great lunch
The food here is really nice and has a lot of real Chinese dishes. If you are looking for something that is more authentic then most Chinese places in the area, give this a try. Their lunch menu is a very good value.
Be the first to ReplyBig Portions But Just OK
Had a Groupon and ordered the Shanghau fried noodles, scallion pancakes and salt/pepper shrimp. The shrimps were big, 13 of them and nicely done but, those who are squeamish with the intestine in should avoid ordering this. Pass on the noodles and pancakes. A customer who had lunch there the previous day came in to say he had been charged 2x. Once for $12 and 2nd time for $8. He showed waitress his phone notification, she pulled up compuer receipt and told him to wait 2-3 days and if it didn't correct itself to come back and speak with manager. Hearing this, we knew we had to pay a small balance over our Groupon so opted to pay cash vs cc. Gave waitress $20 for a balance due of $5.97. Left tip from change and didn't realize until we drove off that when she made change, she had shorted us $2. Watch out for extra charges on your cc and if you pay cash, count your change!
Be the first to ReplyFlavorful and fun
A colleague and I went to dinner here; I was his grateful student for the meal, as he speaks Cantonese and has dined here several times. There are two menus: Shanghai Food (the real deal) and Traditional Chinese Food (ironically, the Americanized stuff). We chose mainly from the Shanghai Food menu. We began with Xaio Long Bao (Chinese Soup Dumplings) and these are amazing. I was taught to carefully pick one up with chopsticks, slide it onto a spoon, and raise it to the mouth. Then nibble the top to experience the soup, and finally eat this tender piece of goodness. I was sad to reach the end of the tray, and quickly snagged the last one when my friend offered. The braised pork shoulder is another dish fit for royalty. It is not, of course, a pork shoulder, although it has the appearance of a miniature pork shoulder. No, it's a good old slow-cooked ham hock! With the light touch of a spoon and chopstick, the whole thing fell apart in the plate and was more than the two of us could eat. Very meaty, very rich, and very full of flavor. This dish and a bit of rice is a meal. I would recommend to avoid the smoked duck. Of the many dishes that landed on our table, this was the least appetizing. Most of it remained behind. It was attractive on the plate, but tough and not flavorful. Perhaps we were spoiled by the wonderfulness of the other dishes.

I had scallion pancakes that had zero flavor. I had shrimp chow mein that was not chow mein but low mein (soft noodles). The first shrimp I bit into had a chemical taste. I tried a second shrimp but had to spit it out. I was there with friends who did not particularly enjoy the dishes they ordered either. On the positive side, the food portions are large (the glass of wine was on the skimpy side). On the negative side, the service was very slow and a bit chaotic (servers brought in one dish at a time at intervals great enough so that half the table was done eating by the time the other half got served). It's mysterious how this place has survived as long as it has. And it was very noisy; I could hardly hear someone across the table speak.
Be the first to ReplyGood for dinner with big group, but a bit pricey
We went to Shanghai Shanghai for dinner and ordered some appetizers, cold noodle, little steamed bun ("Xiao Long Bao"), beef pancake, and lamb dry pot. The food was good, but it was quite oily. The little steamed bun and beef pancake were hand made, but the dough was rather thick. They served our bun order to another table of customer, and three different staff members came to our table to apologize for the error. We were not in a hurry, so it did not bother us. What I was disappointed the most was the value of the price we paid. At the end we paid at least 25 dollars per person, considerably higher than other Chinese restaurants, for some simple dishes that didn't use expensive ingredients and didn't require extensive work. Considering the food quality and the service were not top notch, I would prefer to visit another restaurant with better food and better value.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible place. Very dishonest! Ripped off senior citizen.
Terrible place. Very dishonest! Ripped off senior citizen. Gave me 3 pieces of bones for a take out duck dish. They must think they can get away with it since I got it to go. Think again! Be careful with this place. In their old location, if you had a coupon, they would charge you more from a second, higher priced menu!
