This is my first time dining at Set at The Pendry Hotel and I am absolutely impressed by the incredible food, drinks, and most importantly, the service. Our server was exceptional and all the staff here really make you feel at home. The manager, Sanjiv, knows how to take care of his customers. He even checked in to make sure everything was good. I am seriously amazed by how fantastic this restaurant and its staff are. The ambiance is the best awesome restaurant

After giving this place a second chance, I must say i was very impressed with my experience. The food was incredible - everything from the wagyu steak, the sushi set box, to the lamb chops and spicy rigatoni pasta was amazing. A real 10 out of 10 experience. Our waitress Samoan was a real pleasure, she gave us all the right recommendations and made sure we were well taken care of with great attention to details. The scenery outside was a nice vibe, i'm definitely coming back soon. :)

Loved the food, ambience and service! Will definitely be back! The Peking duck, filet and age New York strip were exquisite. We had carrot cake for dessert and it is definitely one to be shared. It can get pretty loud during the evening but overall a lively atomosphere.

30 dollars for an espresso martini ? Both NY nor Beverly Hills does Not charge that high . This is aggressive! We checked with the main lobby bar to compare prices and they said their expresso martini is 25. We never asked for kettle one. We live next door (a 5 minute walk) and we have been here ordering the same drink over 7 times before - so this is disappointing. We felt like they made their own price as if we didn't know better or haven't been there before.

The highlight was definitely the food. The miso salmon was delicious and it wasn't too much. The steak was a bit rare but the seasoning was fantastic. The cherry on top was the carrot cake; it wasn't super sweet but it's very creamy. Highly recommend! The atmosphere was invited and our server was fantastic. She came to check up on us serval times and she made sure to tell us if something was gonna take longer to come out. Definitely coming back here for their brunch.

Food falls short of the price standard and service feels aloof and slow. Grilled Broccolini Marvelously plain with a pat of butter - not too impressed with a passable dish. Too much on the dry side. 18oz bone-in New York Steak Very well prepared (medium rare) and a fine selection of New York cut. This is a cheaper version of the ribeye, but the smallest ribeye offered is 24oz! Truffle Mac & Cheese Solid truffle aroma but the pasta itself proved too clingy and stale. Okay but not great. Steak Fried Rice Perfect tinge of spice - the dish arrives with a semi cooked egg, which you mix up with the rice and tiny bits of steak and veggies. That's all...

The famous aphorism of "you get what you pay for" most certainly doesn't apply here. I would consider for each 15% decrease in price = one additional star. But for those with extra $ to burn, you will get: -Pleasant decor and outdoor seating although the latter seems chilly even with the heat lamps. I recommend indoors. - I was happily surprised with the spicy penne alla vodka, as it actually did have a nice kick - my friend really enjoyed the bluefin tuna pizza and the half-chicken - espresso martini was properly made, and the cocktail list, in spite of the cheeky names (babymaker) was uninspiring - service was attentive - the adjoining lounge was surprisingly blasé with the usual clientele of failed cosmetic enhancements and lackluster service - forced valet parking, which was the only reasonably priced item $15-30

We visited this restaurant for a double date with friends on a bustling Saturday evening. Our reservations were for 7pm, and upon arrival, we found the place quite lively. Opting for outdoor seating by the heater, we found it perfect for a cozy date night. The ambiance exuded charm, making it an ideal spot for such occasions. It's worth noting that this place leans towards the pricey side, so it's best to come prepared. Service was decent, though I found myself having to remind the staff a few times to refill our water, which was a bit irksome. Despite this, we managed to pass the time with hot appetizers and drinks while waiting for our food, which did take a while to arrive. As for the food itself, we ordered a variety of dishes including the bang bang shrimp, steak set, steakhouse fried rice with sunny side eggs, toro toro, spicy rigatoni alla vodka, and a couple of others I can't recall. Our drinks, particularly the shish sunset, were delicious. This place is great for date nights, celebrations, out of town guests and special occasions to celebrate here. Overall, the food was definitely good, although the service could have been better. Upon leaving, we noticed how busy the restaurant had become, with a line forming at the lobby bar. Despite the minor hiccups, our experience was memorable, and I'm already looking forward to returning to explore their brunch menu. Set Steak and Sushi has certainly earned a spot on my list of go-to restaurants for celebration.

The service was horrible! I had to ask multiple times for our sever to refill our drinks. I had wanted the chefs sushi set which was priced on the menu for 40$ when i ordered my sever had let me know it's a minimum of 2 pieces of sushi so therefor it would 80$ and not the listed 40$ This is ridiculous why is it advertised as a lower price when it is mandatory you have to get 2 pieces of each sushi. The ambience was lovely but it didn't make up for the lack of good service and transparency about prices. I will never go back here. Also you must use valet which is another 15 dollars on top of an expensive bill that doesn't match the quality of service and food.

However, I wouldn't say it was amazing. The service was excellent. It's a very pricey menu, so it's a little overpriced for the product. There were 6 of us, and we had our dinner on the patio, which was very enchanting. It would be a great place for a date or date night, very romantic. I'm taking off a Stat for the price. I just don't feel the food justified the price.

Last week we were invited by a couple of friends to dine at SET. Since the folks we were dining with all loved to share food, we ended up ordering afew things to split. We started with a PNB roll, the tuna pizza, beet tartare, and peking duck. We then finished it off with the ribeye steak followed by the truffle mac and cheese and the broccolini. For dessert we had "the Wave" . Overall all the food was good. Service was excellent and the waitress provided good recommendations. The vibe in this place definitely felt like a place to be seen as many of the staff commented on the fact that most folks dining or in the bar area were not actual hotel guest but rather just locals.

The food and ambiance at SET is quintessential Newport Beach vibes! I absolutely love everything they do; brunch, lunch, & dinner are packed with so many amazing dishes. Brunch: *Avocado toast is classic, and they don't hold back on the avo *Set Benedict is an absolute MUST *Mixed Berry French toast is the perfect addition of something sweet *Maine Lobster & Chorizo scramble is impeccable *FARRAH FAWCETT is the ultimate brunch drink, get it, you won't be disappointed Lunch: *Lobster Bisque is fabulous *Cobb Salad is a classic *Harissa Grilled Chicken Sandwich is so good with the bisque *Lobster Roll is stuffed with lobster and it is really good! Dinner: *Their steak is amazing & you get to "choose your weapon" of the perfect steak knife for your meal *The "Chef's Perfect Set" Sushi set is a must! It's a box for two of all the chef's sashimi selection *Truffle Mac n Cheese is great! Dessert: *Don't ever skip the Carrot Cake!!

If I could give this place 5 more stars, I WOULD! This is my favorite restaurant! I first came here on Christmas Day and have been coming back ever since. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and got the BEST service from the Brandon so every time we come in of course we sit at the bar with him. He makes some seriously great drinks, his service is great and is great to talk too. Some of our favorite dishes are the baked scallop dynamite the flavor is there let me tell you and we also love getting the bang bang shrimp for some appetizers. For rolls the TORO TORO TORO is good if you're a toro lover like I am but the star of the show is definitely the PNB roll! We've had the rigatoni vodka pasta and it's good as well I just wish there was a little bit more sauce in it (but that's a personal preference). And the best dessert i have EVER had is definitely the carrot cake. That is some seriously delicious carrot cake I've ever had! Can't wait to keep coming back to this place.

Beautiful space, nice ambiance. Friendly servers. Food was good - but not great (which I would have expected for the price). My friend had steak, I had salmon, and we shared a twice baked potato and salad. Salmon was very fishy; accompanying rice was tasty and well seasoned. Twice baked potato and salad were nothing special - basic steakhouse fare. Very nice wine list with many options.

I had one of the oddest experiences I’ve ever had in what I thought was a luxury hotel. I’ve been to Pendry’s in other cities before and had amazing service. However, I went to Set with a friend last night a little after eight. We walked in to a bar with about a dozen seats- 10 were taken and the two other seats weren’t together. We asked if they could seat us for cocktails at the tables in the bar- ALL of which were empty. The hostess told us they were fully booked and no, we could only have cocktails if we stood at the bar. She then went on to tell us two more times how booked they were (there must be a lot of late night diners because the entire restaurant looked pretty empty. I said that we had wanted a table for 30 minutes to have a cocktail. By the time she would consider seating us we were so disappointed in her attitude that we left. Also, the decibel levels of the music were quite high- maybe they were trying to make it sound lively in the mostly empty restaurant? We love the restaurants at VEA and as someone who lives nearby we had high hopes for this place, but my friend and I agreed that we won’t be back- our husbands would be even more disappointed than we were.
