Not as asvertised
I was looking forward to a completely gluten free experience and I think my expectations were too high. The service was very good, however, the food was less than ideal. The table bread was, to me, a sign of things to come as it was stale and dry. Maybe we're too critical as coeliacs because we've had to modify our diet for so long, but we know good gluten free bread and that was not it. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken, since I haven't had croutons in forever. Admittedly the croutons were probably the standout part of the food, however were incredibly oily. The chicken was incredibly dry and hard, and quite tasteless. I ate one tiny bit of it and left the rest. I had cramps for about an hour after leaving the restaurant. The dressing was pretty basic, nothing that would have expected me to pay top dollar for essentially iceberg lettuce and stale bread. If the food was quality I wouldn't have minded the extra cost, as it was quite expensive. I hope that their chef is on holiday as otherwise it is a big disappointment.

Maybe we are on an off night…? The cooking tasted pretty amateurish and perhaps a little lazy, and the restaurant’s appearance is pretty scruffy. Disappointed in light of some of the glowing reviews.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing 100% gluten free restaurant
Fabulous gluten free food - no gluten on the premises at all so as a coeliac this was heaven! This is a restaurant rather than a diner or similar and we went after a day exploring in New York. Wish we had gone back to the hotel to change first as felt a little underdressed but we were made to feel welcome regardless. Food was excellent as was the service. A little more pricey than our other meals but higher end establishment and would still highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyFor a person who loves gluten this gluten free is a winner
I’m not gluten intolerant but my boyfriend is and this place is amazing. From starters to desserts. All gluten free. So good.
Be the first to ReplyCeliac disease family loved it!
A gluten free Italian restaurant is almost counterintuitive but Senza made it work beautifully! Amazing food for those gluten free! Chicken parm was a hot! Homemade gnocchi with mushroom sauce was incredible! The food quality was great and not to have to worry about gluten contamination was the best! Not the least expensive restaurant (entrees around 20-30) but we loved every bite of it!

Gorgeous food. So amazing to have options of everything being on the menu due to it being gluten free. Very cute vibe in the restaurant with candle lit dinner. Friendly staff. Recommend for anyone gluten free!!!
Be the first to ReplyBest gluten-free restaurant I’ve ever experienced…in NYC or the rest of the WORLD!
Literally the best, highest quality, finest gluten free dining experience I’ve ever had…in NYC or anywhere else in the world. We now go here every time we’re in New York. If you have a gluten allergy/sensitivity, you NEED to make a stop in SoHo for Senza Gluten! We talked with George (the owner’s son), and we’re so amazed that this type of intimate family-run restaurant still exists! This is the NYC dining experience you’ve been looking for…can’t stress enough how much we love this place.
Be the first to ReplyAverage quality but good option for celiac
We specifically choose this restaurant because we were traveling with a child with celiac’s. This is really a great concept and felt like a safe option since everything is prepared safely. The food was average. There were good options but they did seem to be out of a lot on the menu. The service was a little slow but our waitress was so nice. They do put it on their website but they do only accept cash or Amex.
Be the first to ReplyOnly American Express
As soon as I arrived they asked me if I was paying in cash or that they would only accept American Express. I told the waiter who greeted me that I had no cash on me, and that I had cards from another circuit. He tells me that they only accept American Express and if not, he invites me to go to an ATM to withdraw some cash. I don't even know if that's entirely correct. I didn't believe I needed to have a specific credit card to pay at this restaurant. I have been here for days, I also paid for hotdogs on the street with my Nexy card, but it was not possible for me to eat here for this reason. Too bad, I booked the table from Italy a few days ago, to celebrate my daughter's birthday who only eats gluten-free. I had no idea about all this. It will be for the next visit to New York .. actually not.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food.
My wife eats gluten free. We were delighted to find that this restaurant serves only gluten free food. The food came out from the kitchen very quickly. Delicious. We split an entree so that we could share two desserts. We knew prior to going to Senza Gluten that the restaurant accepted only American Express or cash. We made use of the ATM machine that was in the back of the restaurant.

This place is great for celiac’s as everything on the menu is gluten free - so no need to be concerned about contamination. That said, the dishes and quality are very average - and it’s very expensive. The quality to cost does not match. It’s great that you can get eg. gluten free calimari fritti and tiramisu, but most other dishes on the menu you can easily find (in higher quality) in other places. Fortunately it’s very easy to find high quality gluten free pasta dishes in New York. As a concept, this place is really great. But the menu is stuck in the 80’ and it’s overly priced (although GF ingredients are expensive). You could wish that this place would challenge theselves a bit more, and serve GF dishes that are not easily found in other places,
Be the first to ReplyLoved it!
It was such a pleasure to not have to decide what I CAN eat, but rather what I wanted to eat. Went here after Broadway show with my 2 daughters and loved it. We shared several appetizers and entrees so I could enjoy various foods, which I haven’t been able to do since finding out celiac. Loved the dessert too, tiramisu…yum…delicious. It was pricey, but, for me, worth it to be able to go out and order and enjoy whatever I wanted. Lovely village neighborhood to walk around. Owner came over and checked on us to make sure everything was o.k. They also had a bakery down the street so I brought tiramisu home!
Be the first to ReplyHorrible Waitstaff / Food never came out
My boyfriend and I have been to this establishment around 5 times and every time has been outstanding. However, we came here last night and ordered our usual meals and everything came out at once except for the veal. After about 20 minutes of waiting for the veal to come out, the waiter finally came over and then told us they were all out of the veal, his voice made it seem like it was an inconvenience for him to come over as he was tending to other tables as well. After one of the other very respectful waiters came over and finally got the owner on the phone, the situation was handled, though the owner did not go out of their way to speak to us. That being said, we will most definitely NEVER come back to this place. There needs to be a serious readjustment of waitstaff and professionalism of ownership.
Be the first to ReplyAverage food. Very expensive.
Was seriously excited to visit this restaurant, but found the food to be very average and expensive too for the quality. I’ve certainly had nicer gluten free meals - even from supermarkets. Frustratingly, they only take cash or Amex, but have an ATM that charges $6 to use!
Positively, it’s in a lovely area and at least you can feel safe in what you eat.
Great for gluten allergy!
I have a gluten and a dairy allergy. I was excited to try this restaurant. They modified the rigatoni for me so it had no dairy. No desserts for me unless I had ordered ahead. They have a bakery that makes gluten AND dairy free desserts. I checked it out too and they were very good!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a Disappointment!!
It’s tough to find a good gluten free restaurant, and I was excited to try this one! But it was our least favorite meal in NYC. The calamari was delicious, but things went down from there. My rigatoni was not al denote - it was undercooked. The sauce for the clam pasta was tasteless - no garlic, no salt, and the basil tomato’s sauce was equally as bland. Gluten free or not, the dinners were lacking in any kind of taste. And it wasn’t just one - all three pasta dishes were just meh, Really disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyGluten Free Heaven
It was our most expensive meal in NYC but it was worth every penny. They are very conscientious about other food sensitivities in addition to gluten. I haven't had an Italian meal that tasted this delicious in a long time. The bruschetta with mushrooms was very good. We also had the gnocchi special with four cheeses and spinach as well as the spaghetti with clams. The gnocchi melts in your mouth and the pasta was al dente. I pretty much forgot that we were at a gluten free restaurant. After dinner we opted for dessert at the Senza Bakery down the street at the recommendation of our server. She said at the restaurant they only had 3 options for dessert so we had more options at the bakery. If we come back to NYC I would definitely come back!

Best gluten free bakery ever. Not a huge selection but everything they have is excellent. Last year I had gluten free donuts I still think about. Yesterday I had a cherry scone, an eclair, and a lemon shortbread cookie. If I lived in NYC, I would be at least pounds heavier from eating these excellent desserts.
Be the first to ReplyGluten Free Heaven!!
All I have to say is.....if you can’t eat gluten, go here!!!! Gluten free heaven. I haven’t been able to order lasagne in a restaurant in years. Gluten free calamari to die for and amazing service. I had a trip to NYC planned in April before COVID hit, I hope to return soon!

Good service, cute spot and the food was so very very tasty. The best lasagne I’ve ever eaten. Very attentive to all food allergies.
