Do not miss out.
Sarma surpassed our friend’s already high recommendation. The food was remarkable, bold, creative, and absolutely delicious.
Be the first to ReplyOnce you find a place to park your car, you're in for a treat
With a reservation (which they recommend, until 10:30 pm), we dropped in and got a table. We ordered the octopus al pastor, a dish with rice noodles, a fennel salad, brussels sprouts (hot), a total of 6 things for 3 of us. The cold items appeared first at the table, followed by the warm dishes, the protein options. We'd go back now that we know the menu better and could make a reservation to be certain of getting a table. At 8:30 pm, they were full, and when we left at 10 pm, new customers were arriving. It's pricey, but the Turkish-Greek-Moroccan combo is a great combination of different things.

Overhyped, okay food with less than mediocre service. Unprofessional host but pleasant server. Don’t waste your hard earned money here!

Arrived 15 mins prior to opening and there was already a line up - which ended up around the block, in the rain. If this doesn’t tell you how good this place is, nothing will. Got 2 seats at the bar and were immediately greeted by Doug, the friendliest bartender. Highly recommend trying the Second Place cocktail, it was 10/10! Ordered a selection of small plates from the menu and every single one was to die for. They offered a fried sesame chicken special (off menu) which was juicy and crispy and perfect. If they bring this around do not hesitate to grab one, you won’t be sorry. Also recommend the avocado/burrata, lamb kofte sliders, venison wrapped dates and the brussel sprouts. Will absolutely go back next time I’m in the area as a walk-in so I can sick to the amazing bar.

So good, every part of it! Loved the food, service and atmosphere. Parking wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the greatest tasting complete dinner ever. Definitely worth the hype.
Sarma Trip Advisor review Unfortunately it has been about six or eight years since we have come here. We live in Los Angeles otherwise we would try to come every week. We have had difficulty like every -one getting a reservation. There were six of us, four adults and two children, six and nine year olds. All foodies. We started with the special of the evening, a chicken yogurt dish. It was full of flavor. Everything was served family style. Our 9 year old grandson is a strict vegetarian. He did not share our dishes and we did not share his. He loved all that he ordered and ate. We had the gyro bread, served in a paper bag. It was very good. The Black Sea cornbread with feta, honey and sesame is mindbogglingly good. I normally do not like cornbread. This was AMAZING! The baked brie Spanikopita strawberry spoon sweets were a nice refreshing combination. We had the feta gnocchi, with tiny pork meatballs, tomato, orange and oregano was a very tasty dish. The spicy lobster fideos chorizo, saffron, in brown butter aoli. I don’t know how they come up with such wonderful combinations of flavors. The scallop, creamed corn, basturma, broccolini in a melon sauce was great. I would have liked more corn. The soft shell crab on corn pancakes, kohlrabi, curry remoulade had wonderful flavor and sensational soft shell crab. We had the sugar snap peas with pistachio tahini, radishes, ginger and crispy quinoa. It was a fabulous dish. The baby artichokes had garlicky pea greens, tomato, potato, and mint were delicious. We had cauliflower katayif consisting of green harissa-buttermilk ranch, yuzu. Again how do they come up with these combinations. We then had the sweet potato schnitzel with carrot, avocado, ginger and grapefruit. What an evening! Our waiter was Reid who was fantastic. He was so attentive, so educational and helpful. He advised on the wine selection which turned out great. The food and service and environment are all superb! Each dish had its own entity and none of the ingredients fought with each other. They were in perfect harmony. I cannot speak highly enough about the whole experience. I only wish we lived closer or they moved to Los Angeles.
Be the first to Replyunfortunately...things have changed...
I am really sorry to say this but maybe it would help? We went to Sarma last night and really looked forward to another great food/dining experience. However, it's not looking good that we would make an effort to get there again after so many lovely and interesting dining experiences there over the years. I'll just say this: We had a wonderful server at the bar, Cameron, very attentive and knows his stuff. We purchased the warm "Gyro" bread in the brown paper bag that they used to serve with your initial drinks for free...now you pay for it and they do not serve it any longer with evoo...(they used to) They also used to bring out all sorts of dishes that you could choose from that the chef/owner would surprise us with...now it is fried chicken. And that's it. We got it...there wasn't any chicken but boy, they really know how to make a very crunchy batter...we kept pulling it apart...where exactly was that chicken? Maybe we will try it again someday. Maybe some of these changes are due in part to addressing necessary changes due to pulling out of a global pandemic. But I do hope the quality of Sarma's dining experience doesn't keep sliding and that this restaurant listens to patrons who care. Just remember...placing a piece of warm bread down with the glass of wine is a touch of brilliance...maybe you should rethink that cutback...
Be the first to ReplyI don’t get the hype.
I don’t get the hype. This was our second time. We hated it the first time (food was so over the top salty/sour that it stripped the skin off my tongue). We went back years later to try it again. I was equally disappointed. Every dish overdid the sour/bitter elements and the mix of flavors was criminal: every dish seemed to have oddly bitter feta, heavily vinegared pickled vegetable of some kind, and something totally weird: pickled jalapeño whipped feta and quince paste (??), feta gnocchi and pork meatballs made with orange rind in an orange sauce with pickled kohlrabi (??), spinach stuffed spread topped with bitter tasting feta cream and a leek chimichurri (heavily vinegar). My husband and I left trying to figure out how these dishes made it past multiple chefs and how this restaurant still takes the top spot in Somerville. Ugh.
Be the first to ReplyElevated and surprising ingredients and flavor combinations
Without reservations, we went back to one of our favorites —Sarma to get a dose of extraordinary. Dishes with more surprising middle Eastern/Mediterranean ingredients and combinations. We were lucky to get a spot at the bar. [note: book a table at least 2 weeks in advance. Also it’s next to a T stop in somerville] For this round we ordered: FALAFEL BACALAITOS sofrito, mango, PR hot sauce —I enjoyed this but hubby didn’t. He likes fish dishes not ‘dishes with fishy flavors,’ as he puts it. I on the other hand love Spanish bacalao stews and somehow their falafel with bacalao and a bit of mango salsa worked so well. Try it and you decide. CORN MANTI* shitake yogurt broth, eggplant, hot chili butter —yummy! Just don’t expect the corn to be the star of the dish. It’s really a manti (if a gnocchi married a dumpling) that had corn mixed in. Our 3 top dishes for the night : ARMENIAN CHEESESTEAK sujuk vinaigrettem LTO, mayo, hots LAMB KOFTE SLIDERS* tomato, yogurt, sumac onions, pickles GREEN BEAN ROMESCO potato salad, manchego, crispy onions 🍹CRYSTAL BALL sarma gin, peach, sesame orgeat, falernum, lemon
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great find - great food, service and atmosphere
We were incredibly surprised (shame on us), but thoroughly enjoyed dining at Sarma. The food was creative, different, and delicious. And we loved that they were the right sized portions so we could share a number of dishes. Drinks were also excellent and creative, and the service was great - super friendly and helpful. And the atmosphere is great too. Will definitely be going back!
Be the first to ReplySome of the best and unusual food I have ever tasted!
My sister and I stopped in to this restaurant in June, 2022, thinking it was another one that a friend told her to try. We didn't have a reservation but there were some high tops and seats at the bar available. We grabbed a high top table and began the most amazing dinner experience. The waitress was very helpful in making menu suggestions and we took her advice. The snap pea dish exploded in flavors, we enjoyed the lamb kofte sliders and several other plates. Two months later, we came back and didn't have reservations but didn't have to wait long for two seats at the bar. The bartender took great care of us and had amazing meal suggestions. The black sea cornbread was melt in your mouth delicious. Yes, it is a bit pricey and it isn't child friendly but more of a place to go on a date or meet some friends. I believe the quality and uniqueness of the food is worth the cost. I am sitting at my desk here in Michigan looking forward to my next trip to the Boston area and another stop at Sarma to try their new menu and maybe more of that cornbread.
Be the first to ReplyA Mediterranean delight
This Turkish restaurant in Winter Hill doesn't disappoint. They have one of the biggest small plates menu in the area. The harissa BBQ duck with duck, dates carrots and orange blossoms was divine. As it is hard to get a reservation here, Sarma now offers takeout daily. Think of it as small plate takeout feasts (!).
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing!
Service, food, ambiance overall superb! Every single dish was super well paired with different herbs. Will go back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyBest small plates place in MA!
Sister restaurant to Oleana. The Chef Cassie is absolutely GENUS! She puts out food that is delicious, flavorful and creative. We go to Sarma at least once in two months since it opened and we have never had a bad meal here. The staff is a little stiff and not as friendly as many other places we dine at but they are courteous and formal. But the food and the cocktail are die for! Chef Cassie is a master of salads and meats. Black sea cornbread is the BEST - do not leave without ordering this!
Be the first to ReplyOverseated, Overpriced, Poor Service & Oh-what-the-hell Spiced Food
After learning about the restaurant in Boston Magazine and later researching it online, I truly looked forward to Sarma especially as I like Middle Easter and North African cuisines. First of all, the restaurant was filled to capacity with tables too close by to one another during COVID even on a Monday night. Second, all menu items from food to beverages are overpriced for the quantity and quality. Service, as experienced by us, was by servers who never smiled, dressed shabbily and constantly pestered us (even during us chatting) if we wanted the server to remove a place. The food is overhyped and spiced by maybe someone with few tastebud functioning by just putting their hands into jars at their disposal. You taste the mega mix of spices but rarely the food underneath. Would I return to Sarma? No. Would I recommend it to others? No.
Be the first to ReplyLovely atmosphere
We were four of us, had gone there one evening.
Ordered quite a number of dishes as this is tapas style started with the House Gyro bread, would have been better if they had put in more zaatar, the Black sea cornbread which was delicious and not dry, the charred Avocado Tabouleh, Ali Nazek, lamb kofte sliders and the Harissa BBQ duck. Being a sort of a Mediterranean cuisine what was missed was the olives and Pide or the no-knead turkish bread. This was non-existant which isn't traditional.
Delicious. Exotic. Great Fun
The pandemic is reseeding! Ate inside and shared food with colleagues. That’s miraculous enough. And then. The food! Great flavors, served tapas style to share. Everyone has the same multiplate menu that takes away the “ stress” of choosing between the interesting taste combos. Decor is oddly downscale given the fixed price menu, the good vibes come from the food which is well worth a visit
Be the first to ReplyTake away as great as eat in!!!!
I knew that the food is great at this restaurant.
I had never ordered any to take away before.
Even with the short travel time home it was delicious. Every plate.
The service was excellent. Very attentive.
I am sorry that I forget the young ladies name. She was very nice.
We ordered for four foodie adults and two young children of foodies.
We began with the Black Sea Cornbread. Usually I find cornbread to be too dry. This was spectacular!! If we were in the restaurant we probably would have ordered two more orders. The portion size is generous and wonderful!
The cauliflower tangine was delicious. Really tasty vegetable and spice combinations.
Brussels sprouts Bravas with hazelnut migas was great as well.
The sugar snap peas were sooo good. Fresh and sweet with pistachio tahini, radishes , crispy quinoa sumac. I could have had two more of that dish too.
I did not have the green pea falafel but those that dod loved it.
We also had the sweet potato Spanikopita skins, Broccoli brik (Tunisian style eggroll) with Kale, cabbage and tumeric mustard. Also the Turkish lamb meatballs. All these dishes were loved by all.
Besides tasting so good, I was blown away by how well it all travelled.
We have all eaten at Sarma many times and loved every time.
I was a little concerned about take away. NOT ANY MORE!
It was brilliant.
Great Mediterranean Meze
We loved the chef's interpretation of the Mediterranean cuisine.
The tasting menu was incredible. We enjoyed the salads, the Halibut Caesar, the chicken shawarma and more. We sat outside, weather was great and it felt safe.
Delicious organic food, beautifully presented
Our last visit to Sarma was a while ago but we have been there several times and the food is always exotic, interesting, yummy and beautifully presented. Our main complaint is that it is very hard to get a reservation at Sarma! So plan ahead if you want to visit.

Great mix of small plates and flavours--original combinations and fresh, mouth watering tastes. Great wine and prompt service. Venison wrapped in dates, haloumi and spinach, artichoke spanikopita...delicious.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a total rip.
This place is a total rip. From the snobby host to the the snobby bar tenders all around bad. Don’t waste your time or money here.
Be the first to ReplyResting on its accolades?
The service? Uneven. Host and hostess lacking in personality and professionalism and were absolutely greeting-free to us. What is that? Not a very attractive or appealing way to make folks (newcomers in particular) feel welcome! We walked in, they were both at the stand, not as much as a good evening or hello popped out of their mouths. We had to speak up first and tell them we had a reservation. Their attitude (ugh!) alone made me want to turn around, walk out the door and give someone else our business. Finally, “I can seat you”. Wow, really? Gee thanks! We had a reservation and there were plenty of free tables, yet, this guy seemed to think he was doing us a favor. Again, so tempting to leave.
But, no, we were curious after hearing so much “blah blah blah” for a few years, and since we had finally remembered to reserve in advance….
The food: well, the waitress who was very friendly and pleasant and could teach the host staff a thing or two about hospitality, asked us if it was our first time and when we said yes, she recommended that we get 2 or 3 plates each. We ordered a total of 5 between the two of us and it was far too much. And because we were already full after the first two dishes, we couldn’t bear the thought of saying yes to any of the specials that came around, one of which looked and sounded almost tempting, but the fullness prevailed. And, why do that anyway? Maybe because some people are suckers, and will go for the extra dish? An interesting way to pad the check which already is up there anyway once you add all those dishes and drinks. But over-eating does not a fun night out make, especially when the food is heavy and super salty.
For example, the scallops, close to outstanding, were not, because they were incredibly over-salted. Why? Trying to sell more alcohol? Awful! At least the accompaniment to those delicious but defenseless scallops was perfect and unique. The swordfish dish was undeniably excellent. The lamb kofte sliders were very good but the buns were too thick and thus overpowered the taste of the meat and also filled us up too fast. The lentil tortilla chips were okay, on the bland side even though there was plenty of stuff piled up on some of them, still, nothing to write home about, but they should have been served first.
In fact, in general, the order of which the plates came out left a lot of be desired. The yellow fin tuna, which came last, almost everywhere in Greater Boston dining establishments is a reliably excellent course, but here it was really unpleasant. I can’t quite pinpoint why, I can only say that it was a bit disgusting.
Far too stuffed to even think about dessert didn't feel like much of a loss, we had looked at that menu and weren't impressed by the very limited offerings.
It’s hard after this meal to respect the place or be eager to go back, and I had really hoped to do both. Clearly the potential is there, and perhaps it was better when it first opened, but they are missing the mark on a lot of things these days, and that’s too bad.
