Delicious food and fantastic service! Came here for a team dinner so we had a relatively large group. Just about everything that we had was amazing. This includes the fiori di zucca (some deep fried squash blossoms), scallops, risotto with balsamic vinaigrette, and pasta shaped like calamari with aged parmesan. My entrรฉe was the branzini, which came with sautรฉed kale and spinach (again, delicious!). Finally, we ordered a bunch of dessert to share. They were good, not great, and included the mango cheesecake, torte al cioccolato, and tiramisu.

Absolutely amazing! Friend and I got some last minute seats at the bar on a busy Saturday night and everything was incredible. Service was super friendly and quick but not dismissive, food was even better ! We had the risotto and tortelli which was gone within minutes. The drinks were also pretty tasty but strong :) Overall, an amazing meal and time there!

DISCRIMINATORY: We don't often leave reviews on Yelp because who has the time/energy, but our experience at San Lorenzo warranted a review...Let me preface by saying the food was delicious - we ordered the calamari, the risotto, and the tiramisu - and we enjoyed all of those.HOWEVER, the service was lacking and discriminatory. My partner and I did not fit the clientele profile - she is black and I am white and we are both younger than the crowd we were surrounded with. Our server did not say more than two words to us beyond asking us what we would like for water. We had to flag him down for each step of the ordering process while tables around us (filled with older white folks) were noticeably being treated differently. We ordered a $58 bottle of wine (one of the cheaper of their wine offerings) and waited a while because they "had trouble finding the bottle". They eventually brought us a different bottle and we drank it under the assumption that it would be priced the same as the one we ordered but that they could not locate. When the check came, it was an $85 bottle! This felt purposeful and dishonest on the restaurants part. Overall, we left the restaurant with a $200 bill and the impression that we were discriminated based on both race and class. Will not be returning to this restaurant.

Discriminatory!!I was treated much differently than the white guests. The waiter hardly came to my table, never checked in on how we were doing, overcharged us for a bottle of wine, and legitimately turned to service a table of white guests that needed help, when he was originally on the way to ours. The waiter was visibly and audibly kinder and more responsive to the white guests next to us!!!

A friend and I were excited to eat pasta so we tried this restaurant. When we walked in, the restaurant reeked of fish. We brushed it off thinking to ourselves "well at least the seafood would be fresh," Unfortunately, the food was mediocre and the service was poor. We had to flag the server down each time to receive service or more napkins or our check and even water! Mid way through the meal, frustrated and disappointed, my friend submitted a yelp review to which the manager came over right away and offered dessert which I will say was delicious (get the cheesecake). However, overall, I would not recommend. Folks were standing on the wall, right in front of our table waiting to be seated. We were also the only black people, black women specifically, in the restaurant which added to overall dissatisfaction of the experience. 3/10

Good food with truly horrible service! The waiter was nice at first but completely stopped serving our table, they left food and plates piled on to the table. I had to ask multiple times to get any sort of service. Would not recommend here for an evening out, poor service
Be the first to ReplyVALENTINE'S DAY DINNERI'll start off with the main quip
VALENTINE'S DAY DINNERI'll start off with the main quip about why I'm giving San Lorenzo just 2 stars: I booked a Valentine's Day dinner here for me and my girlfriend 3 weeks in advance. Two nights before (the night of the SuperBowl, so I didn't see until the following morning), San Lorenzo called me to let me know that they would not be doing a la carte and would ONLY be doing a $125 prix-fixe menu for Valentine's Day. My girlfriend and I were both shocked, but because we didn't learn about this until the day before Valentine's Day, we struggled to find any alternatives. If San Lorenzo had just posted this with sufficient advanced notice OR provided the option for an a la carte menu, I think this review would have been bumped to 3- or 4-stars.The total bill for everything, including tip, tax, and transportation fee(?), was ~$330. That's a pretty hefty price tag in my book, especially when comparing San Lorenzo to other D.C. restaurants I've been to with similar tabs.THE FOODThe food was solid overall. Four courses, not including bread. Unfortunately, the menu was a "surprise" since it was prix-fixe and we were instructed to just give the waiter our dietary restrictions. - 1st Course: We have no idea what the first course was since the waiter tried to explain the first course, but we couldn't understand him. - 1.5th Course: Bread and garlic olive oil for dipping. Pretty average overall.- 2nd Course: The second course was heart-shaped ravioli, which was the best course by far and nicely themed. - 3rd Course: The third course seemed to be a steak with sauce dish and a fish steak dish, but the waiter never came over to explain the third course, so we don't actually know what it was we ate. My girlfriend hated the fish steak because it didn't seem to have any seasoning or sauce associated with it (barring the lemon that was next to it). She mostly just ate the side of spinach. FWIW, I also heard the table next to us complaining a lot about their main dish, but I'm not sure exactly what they ordered.- 4th Course: The fourth course was tiramisu and a heart-shaped chocolate cake. My girlfriend loved the tiramisu and I thought the chocolate cake, albeit light in flavor, won points for being on brand.THE DRINKSThe waiter gave us complimentary glasses of wine as part of the prix-fixe. One rose and one prosecco. The rose was surprisingly bitter, so we barely finished it. The prosecco was good. We were offered more wine, but it was unclear if all the wine was complimentary in the price, or just the first glass, so we declined.THE SERVICEThe service was solid overall. The waiter and staff were nice and kudos to them for working a holiday like Valentine's Day. Our waiter dragged his feet a bit towards the end (after the 2nd course), so the dinner ended up being a little over 2.5 hours. But the restaurant did provide my girlfriend with a complimentary rose which was a really nice touch. At the end of the day, our frustration and it seemed like other patrons' frustrations stemmed from the limited choice, limited notice, and limited menu. That, coupled with a hefty price tag, are easy enough fixes in my mind, so hopefully we can visit again in the future under different circumstances.
Be the first to ReplyWe had an amazing dinner this week.
The mango cheesecake was fantastic. I liked the grilled calamari and the roasted cauliflower. It's a charming place with great service. A great pick for dinner.

This place was my birthday dinner and it was delicious! Had the Italian margarita and it was crisp and strong. Calamari was charred to perfection with light spices complementing the grilled flavor. The lobster risotto was delicious and creamy and the linguine with seafood Ragu was tasty as well.

A meal to remember! I came with my family for my birthday and we LOVED dining here. The highlights of our meal were our entrees: the halibut with corn and grilled apples, lobster risotto, and the linguini special. The halibut tasted like a refreshing Italian summer day. The fish was flaky, the corn was sweet, and the grilled apple was warm and tart. Together they complimented each other so well. This linguini set the standard for what Al dente means. Each bite had the perfect chew of noodle. The clams were small but meaty. The lobster risotto married the beautiful flavor of tomato with the seafoodness of lobster. Our family may or may not have fought over who got the last bite! The only drawbacks I can think of are that there was a $3/plate cutting fee for the birthday cake we brought and that the music they played felt a little too much like Italian karaoke night. Besides these small details, this is a great place to have a special dinner. If anyone in your life has something important to celebrate, you can't go wrong by taking them here!
Be the first to ReplyI came here on a Sunday.
My last night in town after a week long conference. Fadi, the bartender took care of me and gave me the perfect level of conversation. The ambience was perfect to decompress after a long week. The food and wine was DELICIOUS!!! I had the linguini and even though it is tomato based or was the perfect mix of subtle flavors that was not acidity.

I'm always on the hunt for perfect cheese-filled pastas, and the tortellini was near perfection. The wine selection was also wonderful and the staff was very knowledgeable and was able to recommend something for my specific wants, and it was delicious. The atmosphere here was so great - music selection set the mood and the staff was all so nice, including the head chef who was sitting next to me at the bar and was a very cordial fellow. A great experience if you're in the mood for some wonderful Italian food in DC!
Be the first to ReplyI had a really good time here.
Went for my moms birthday and we sat outside. Reminded us of our time in Italy, in fact. The owner (I think?) came out and had a nice discussion with us and we were even able to get something customized that was not on the menu for our Vegetarian guest. She described the items on the menu very well which made it easier for me to choose what I wanted. Wanna know what I got? I got the Lobster risotto and thought it was muy delicioso! They also had an amazing Fish of the day. The Tuna appetizer was well done on the outside and the right amount of medium on the inside. Wine was delicious. Also, get the Vegetarian appetizer with the goat cheese, you will not regret it. Such a classy restaurant in such a classy part of DC! Can't wait to come back!

After many many visits to San Lornenzo, this last visit was the worst and most disappointing ever!! I wrote a personal letter to Mossimo which was probably intercepted by the Manager, Christine. I asked him to relpy too us and as expected, he did not. We had unprofessional service and waiter brought out 2 dishes that were not what they were supposed to be and was dishonest about them. It is a long story and they know what I am talking about. Mossimo sat at the bar, never greeted us at all nor anyone else. He never went to a table to ask if people were enjoying themselves etc. It is clear is doesn't matter. He also had his head down on the bar with his eyes closed. Super unprofessional !!! They never made our 2 incorrect entrees correct!!!!! It says alot when a customer takes the time to write to an Owner personally and there is no response. We spent $400.00 plus that evening and this will be the last time. We have taken many friends to San Loreno and recommended many and it a shame they have lost their touch. Former manager, Chrissy, would have never let this happen!!! Clearly its is very phoney customer care...I definitely do not recommend you go here..Mossimo,You still should be respectful enough to send a requested respone!!!
Be the first to ReplySan Lorenzo was an absolute gem.
We live in the neighborhood and have been to Italy, and the food transported us back. Most Italian in DC is a bit overpriced and overrated, but this was quality food with fresh made pasta and ingredients which made it well worth it. The linguini bolognese had a lovely kick and the mushroom truffle tortelli was rich and decadent. We couldn't stop eating. We enjoyed a wine flight recommended by Christina, the general manager, and her selections paired perfectly. The night ended with some delightful tiramisu and digestifs, port and house made lemoncello. We were so busy eating, drinking and enjoying the atmosphere, we forget to take photos, but not to worry -- we will be back!
Be the first to ReplyI LOVE this restaurant located in Mount Vernon Square in DC.
.. Phenomenal service! They took us in last minute: 9 people because the place we reserved for dinner lost our reservation (?) Espita from hell. And would not even let us have a cocktail to wait for them to make room for us. We were so glad that place was so shitty because we found this 5 star GEM only 2 blocks away!!! Homemade pasta straight from the Gods! Everything pasta was spectacular! Those that ordered pork and steak were also drooling and happy. They gave us a mini private balcony area so we felt like complete royalty. Excellent wine selection. Thank you San Lorenzo !! We left full, happy, and very grateful! Rabbit paparadelle was a huge hit!

Chef Massimo and his team create a great experience from the moment you walk in. Food is alway top quality and wine list and pairing are superb.

This was our first time at San Lorenzo and we really wanted to try the sandwiches. We ordered two to try: prosciutto and chicken parm. The prosciutto sandwich was hands down the best sandwich I have ever had! The bread was perfectly made, nice and crusty. It was a great pairing with the prosciutto. The second sandwich was the chicken parm and it was different compared to the first, because of the sauce and it was a warm sandwich. The sauce was delicious and worked really well with the bread, it did not make it too soft. I would come back for the prosciutto sandwich again. It was my favorite of the two and I highly recommend it.

Such a great little place! My friends surprised me with a reservation here on a Friday evening to celebrate that I accepted a new job offer and we had an amazing time!!! At least three of the staff congratulated me when we arrived (so sweet!) and they even put my flowers in water at the bar while my friends and I ate. The restaurant itself was pretty small, but very cute and upscale-feeling. The service was top-notch and the food was all delicious! We ordered several things and each of them was so good! We started with calamari and the delicious bread basket. For entrees we all (three of us) split the tortellini, the linguini, and the fish of the day (which I don't recall, but it tasted great!). The portions were not huge, but the taste was fantastic! We rounded out with dessert (cheesecake, sorbet, and espresso). The sorbet (my dessert) was honestly not my favorite element of the meal, but still a tasty end to the dining experience. It was pretty packed by the time we finished eating at like 7:00, so I would make a reservation if you know you're heading here, at least on the weekend.

Went for dinner on a Friday night and it was an outstanding experience all around. The place was quite packed but the staff did their best to get us seated quickly. The food and service were spectacular. We had the calamari and tono tuna appetizers and both were excellent. They had an ossobuco special and I couldn't decide whether to have that or the rabbit ragรบ pappardele which I had heard so much about. They accommodated me and served the ossobuco over the pappardele and it was absolutely amazing! My wife had the short rib ravioli and loved it. Chef Massimo came out and greeted us and helped to make us feel welcome, made our evening very special. Highly recommend San Lorenzo!!

Finally made it to San Lorenzo! Before I get to the delicious meal (and I know this is on the cusp of being moot given the ever-changing COVID guidelines) but they were very strict about enforcing the vaccine mandate and the chef even came out to ask a patron to leave who could not show his proof. I appreciated that they were taking it seriously and thinking about what's best for their staff and their patrons. So, it's been long on the list and a colleague two jobs ago (yes, two) had raved about the rabbit ragu and it just stayed lingered in my brain every time I was catching up with friends and we were discussing where to go. I went to San Lorezno with two friends on a Tuesday night and there were maybe 8 other people inside with us. We started with a bottle of red wine that was recommended by our waiter and their warm, fresh bread with olive oil. It was nice that we each got our own little olive oil dish to dip our bread in. We tried to order the squash blossoms that everyone raves about but they were out of them so we opted for the prosciutto. The prosciutto was a generous spread and a perfect way to start the meal. And it had fresh figs which is a win in my book.We ordered dishes to share and had the rabbit ragu pappardelle, the mushroom tortelli and the short rib ravioli. We also had a side of broccolini. And honestly, I could have eaten every single dish on my own because it was all just so fresh, light and....yet rich, full of flavor and the perfect portion. ย I'm not even sure I can pick a favorite dish and I can't wait to go back to try some others. We had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert and it was the perfect few bites of sweet to finish off the meal. I highly recommend San Lorenzo and can't wait to go back!

Don't Forget their Awesome Lunch Menu!I've been for dinner a few times and the food and service are consistently very good, but others have written about that so I want to focus on their amazing lunch menu! They have a great selection of delicious sandwiches and salads. My favorite sandwiches are the caprese, fiore (fried squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese), and chicken parmigiana. Every day they have a daily special sandwich and a soup, which are always terrific. I will sometimes treat myself to a small soup and half-sandwich combo ($19, including a non-alcoholic drink).I try to get lunch from San Lorenzo at least once a week because it's so good. I like to sit at the bar and enjoy the food hot and fresh, but I've also ordered sandwiches to go and several of them travel quite well.
