Despite being really quite we received extremely poor service and everything seemed like a real effort from the wait staff. We ordered a large 40+ piece platter which came with a tiny dispropotionate amount of wasabi you would usually get with 6 pieces and no ginger at all. Politely asked for more and got a shock when settling the bill that they charged us extra for both. $12.50 beers and what appeared to be older salmon my colleague was annoyed and we will not be back.

Quite an unpretentious restaurant but food fantastic. I can specifically recommend the tuna, wasabi beef and the sydney opera house. This is a must do visit.
Be the first to ReplyWas very surprised by the quality of sashimi here but the whole place needs a good clean.
Good food good service but the place is dark and wooden tables are old and dirty. They could really use a good scrub and a lick of fresh paint. Wouldnโt eat in again but takeaway is an option. Sake choices are very limited as well.

Some of my friends and I had a wonderful dinner in Sakura sushi last Friday. We ordered assorted sashimi, salmon tempura, chirasi salad, popcorn prawn, and spicy raw tuna. The food was very fresh. We really enjoyed our dinner here. A lady staff named Daisy always smiled and took care of us very well. The atmosphere was very warm on a rainy and cold day. We will definitely come again!

I ordered a cooked salmon roll which had the same consistency as tinned tuna...it was horrible, dry and looked like cat food.

It is so hard to get good seafood in Wollongong! So it is with great joy that I can recommend Sakura! Had the kingfish (from the chefโs menu) and salmon nigiri this time. Absolutely on point. Such fresh ingredients. The staff are all lovely and the renovation looks great! Arigato โ๏ธ

Dined here after some time away. They have a Covid-safe check-in which I completely missed and was not instructed to check in when shown to my booked table. I only realised it after my friends turned up, asking if I had checked in. Besides that, the food is exceptional, as always. We had the chicken karaage with spicy mayo, grilled eel, assorted sashimi (1 2 pieces of mixed salmon, tuna, kingfish & snapper), tuna aburi sashimi, snapper sashimi, and deep fried oysters. Every bite was fantastic. Perhaps the restaurant was a little understaffed (we were here on Sunday 12pm), I had to ask for extra pickled ginger twice, and ask for table water, something they normally do without being asked. Not a big deal, but it's so great to see this restaurant survive through covid with almost all tables filled. I highly recommend this place.

Good food but the take away is slow and confused. Some dishes say waiting getting cold for while others were not ready. A shame as the food is usually good.

Tastefully decorated, sakura is by a long shot the best Japanese in wollongong. From the popcorn shrimp, the tacos, ceviche, udon and the oyster rolls, expect quality cuts of fish, freshness and some interesting sake options. Not to mention its byo!
