Quality ingredients, tasty and most authentic Japanese sushi in Adelaide, definitely worth going to Genki Roll. Love, love, love!

i have been to genki roll for last 7 years. they have been part of me and my family favourite. their sushi was way too cheap previously...and now their price has up to normal market price. due to their high quality tasty and freshness , prices never bother me. i go there for my lunch three times a week. because nobody make sushi rolls better than genki.
they always have a fair policy on soy sauce. 1 fish soy per roll. if i dont want any soy sauce, the girls will ask me if i want wasabi or ginger instead with no extra cost. they have a fair policy on them.
they have homemade teriyaki sauce and tartae suace for fried prawn and fried chicken. i love them both. i always see boss cutting whole salmon fish ( debone the whole fish). his skill is super good. and i am sure my salmon is definitly fresh.
Bento box oyster and tori mayo is my favourite. also their aburi salmon don is super quick and yummy.
i am sure a person who really enjoy quality of japanese food, they will be like me. not going else where for sushi rolls. btw their owner is from jp. absolutely authentic jp food.
also they are doing $5 off promotion. i have got two tickets to use. yay---
i have seen they can custom made baby roll. so cute. i have taken a photo
Regular customer
I had been regularly coming to Genki Roll for the last four years because of one item - the salmon avocado sushi roll. There are many places that sell sushi but rarely would you get fresh served salmon. Hence, that led me to come and patronise Genki almost every Friday or Saturday.
I like eating the salmon avocado sushi roll is because it is fresh. The salmon meat they purchased is fine and smooth. When it blends with the soft avocado, a creamy texture is produced. I avoid mixing my roll with soy sauce because I like the items in its natural state. Hence, I would always pass the sauce. For those of you who would want to have it with the sauce, just add a couple of drops. Too much will result in you not being able to taste any rolls in its natural state.
The bento boxes are my favourite. I remembered that they took down this menu but I was glad they brought it back again. Similar to the rolls, you have multiple choices and could request in two sizes - small or large. I would recommend getting the smaller ones in case you purchase the rolls like me.
The staff members and the bosses are always welcoming. It's great to see the familiar faces at the counter and they will know what I'm after most of the time. Normally you won't see the bosses but they are always behind the counter doing lots of cooking and preparations for your bento boxes. Occasionally, they do come out and greet us customers - regular or new ones.
It has been 4 years since I visited and wouldn't trade any other places for the atmosphere, location and price. Even if I am a regular customer, I don't want to take advantage of them for they are doing a business and they are friendly so far.
Thank you for the good food. Now, what should I choose - rolls or bento boxes?
Soy sauce step function
Dear Genki roll, how have you chosen you soy sauce delivery ratio? My friends and I, with a combined experience of 28 years of sushi purchases at your establishment have identified the following function:
1 roll - 1 sauce
2 rolls - 1 sauce
3 rolls - 2 sauces
4 rolls - 2 sauces
Being a keen student of mathematics I note that this is not a continuous function and is indeed a step function. The issue with step functions is that they inequitable. The customer who purchases fewer rolls is rewarded with higher soy sauce ratio. This leads to a sub optimal experience for hungry folk who need 3 or 4 rolls.
I recently observed my friend take a stand at this inequitable behaviour and ask for 3 soy sauces with 3 rolls. This was initially provided by the server, who was later publicly admonished by a manager who quickly snatched away the additional soy sauce and said it wasnโt possible to get 3 soy with 3 rolls.
Being a man of principal my friend took a stand and left his sushi behind instead growing 2 shops over to the new Japanese place which doesnโt take part in this step function nonsense.
Genki - what a shame. We have calculated a combined spend of approximately $23 000 in the last 10 years. No more. All for a 5c packet of soy sauce.
Great Sushi
Got Sushi from Genki Roll today and I have to say that I am impressed. This is some of the freshest sushi that I have had for a very long time, and as another reviewer commeted, it isn't over chilled, and that means that you can really taste the fresh produce.
Friendly staff and a good range of food, I look forward to returning.
Great food with lots of choices
This is by far the best quick sushi option you can get in the city. There are not just white rice, but also brown and even black rice sushi to provide the healthier options of sushi :) All sushi are made freshly and tasted real good (not stone cold like many other sushi places)! If you can't find what you want, they often can even prepare what you want for you freshly, very great friendly boss they have there!
There are also many other options of sushi or other than sushi. If you are not in a rush, you can also order their hot food like noodle or rice bowls, plenty of options there all, very interesting.
For dessert, they even have matcha ice cream on a cone. I haven't tried it personally, but seen people ordered it and looked really great.

We eat here once a week, and the sushi is the best we have tried. Extremely consistent, and very good quality. Turnover is high so it's always fresh, and if it's not on display, it's made within minutes. One of the busiest shops in the food court, and there is a reason for it!
Be the first to ReplyJapanese Chef
Nowadays there are so many sushi shops in Adelaide: at least one in every food court. But this shop has been in Adelaide Central Plaza (i.e., the basement of David Jones Department Store) for many years. It is still the best, as the chef is a Japanese, who knows how to prepare sushi rice and how to roll it with the right pressure; not too hard like the ones in other shops.
When I saw him making a salmon roll, I asked him to cut it into a bite size for me. I also bought my favourite Inari-sushi. They were really yummy, just like the ones in Tokyo! And the prices are not high at all. So there is always a long queue of customers during the lunch hour.
