Favourite Brunch place
Probably my 5th time doing the Roka brunch. I absolutely love it.in fact it seems to just get better. Food always excellent and plentiful. Staff generally great. Sure we will be back again!
Be the first to ReplyThis used to be a great brunch, not anymore
This brunch used to be so amazing. We were really disappointed on our last visit. The staff rushed us, served us from the menu we didnโt request, didnโt ask if we would like a last round, and also didnโt apologise. When I complained the managers reply was we had over 400 covers at lunch. As a customer this is not what you expect to hear from a 5 star restaurant as the reason for bad service ( if this is the problem Roka might consider employing more staff or reducing table bookings)
Be the first to Replygreat for the set lunch
we went for the 3rd time for the lunch set menu they offer. really nice food and you can re-order extra items. really good location and love the food.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Japanese food and the best pre-theatre in London
Came for the pre-theatre and was blown away by how great it all was. Food was fabulous and there is so much. You get 5/6 sharing dishes for the table depending on how many people and a main and dessert- all for ยฃ36. The food was delicious- sushi and sashimi was my favourite as a pescatarian but the meat-eaters said the ribs were moist and tasty. We had a happy hour cocktail as well and even with wine it was less than ยฃ60 per head for a truly great wine and dine experience. I would go again and again. Highly recommended for pre-theatre (and not rushed as some pre-theatre is). Thank you Roka :)
Be the first to ReplyBest Japanese restaurant
Fantastic Japanese restaurant in London, We had a five course tasting menu, a real taste experience, few places in the world serve food at that level. Nice and polite staff and modern atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
This was a disappointing experience for several reasons. First, the service was incredibly slow - we waited over 15 minutes for our first drinks order to arrive. Second, one of the main dishes ordered did not arrive at all! So one of the guests had no food. The server taking the order apparently thought that two guests ordering the same two dishes would be willing to share one dish! Very odd. And awkward given that it was a business dinnner. 3. The menu choice for vegetarians is now worse than before. There is still no vegetarian set menu - even though there are two non vegetarian ones. There were only two main dishes that were vegetarian. The miso soup (once vegetarian) is no longer vegetarian! The tempura is only sweet potato rather than mixed vegetables and sweet potato features again on the menu as the only vegetarian option in that section. The nasu dengkaku no longer states that it is vegetarian. So I was left with nibbling on edamame and iceberg lettuce and sharing my grilled tofu and grilled portobello mushrooms with my guest whose main course failed to arrive. One member of staff apologised and provided some complimentary drinks but there was no wider recognition of the poor service by the more senior staff. Very poor experience. And a distinct feeling that Roka Aldwych does not welcome or value vegetarian clients.
Be the first to ReplyVery very good brunch - add to your list asap
Had the brunch and honestly really impressed. Such good value - we ate and drank so much! Roka is a firm favourite any way but the brunch deal gives you so much variety of food and bottomless wine. Favourites were the crispy chicken and prawn dumpling. Service at this branch was really lovely and the whole meal was just enjoyable. Canโt fault this one - well done Roka we will be back

Excellent food, the menu is highly recommended. Absolutely professional service. Great ambience, stylish and perfect.
Be the first to ReplyAcceptable food, poor experience
Just to start on a couple of mild mild positives: the food is OK and the environment, whilst noisy, is pleasant. However at the prices charged you would expect the food to be better than OK and the experience to be very good. Unfortunately, beyond the food the experience was woeful. This seems to be a recurring theme over the more recent reviews and I wished that I had read them before booking. I don't know iof they were understaffed, poorly trained or if the waiter we had was just in the wrong job, but the experience was so poor that for the first time ever (in 45 years of dining in London) I removed the service charge. Just a few examples: - We tried to order scallops but the waiter said he didn't think there were any left. We asked him to check and he said there were definately none left. Imagine our surprise when the table that ordered 20 minutes after us has scallops delivered. - Where we were seated seemed to be in an alternative unverse as we and the table next to us barely had a visit from the waiters. No water refils (Roka Charlotte Street and Mayfair were very assiduous in this); no checking that the food was OK; plates left on the table for ages. - At one point, having been ignored for 15 minutes I had to go the Front Desk to get any service I could go on but the overall impression was of a total lack of hospitality: continuosly slow, lazy and surly service (with the exception of the lady on the front desk who came to help). For the same money we could have eaten at Murano or La Carectere and had exceptional food from owner operators who actually care about the hospitality they offer to their diners. Until something drastic is done with this restaurant I would avoid Roka Aldwych.
Be the first to ReplyMassive rip-off
Terrible service and extremely poor value for money!!! All of the food came out at once within 10 minutes of ordering, the waiter was very inattentive, not only forgetting about the wine order but also not once checking in to see whether we enjoyed the food. They never refilled our water (had to explicitly ask for it), food was extremely mediocre for the price, and on the way out, we were not acknowledged by any staff. Will not return!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing service
Big fan of Roka, bit very poor experience tonight...from the surly welcome, to the very slow service looks like they are very short of staff. Food was good ...................... .
Be the first to ReplyTry to avoid, big dissapointment
Pretentious place, really not nice experience. Stuffy, "fashionable" people with no real value behind. It was dark, with the exception of a small window on one far side, no walls, felt like a basement, loud noises everywhere (bad sound absorbance). The sushi was the worst value for money I've ever had, just could not believe that I'd pay 130 a person for 15-16 pieces of much colder than should, tastless sushi. I've had better sushi as street food in the USA, compared to this. Unbelievable dissapointment and a ripoff!
Be the first to ReplyPoor doggy bay policy
Couldnโt finish our steak. Policy of restaurant is no doggy bay. Food ok, policy bizarre. One star. We were eating a set menu not free-flow buffet. We paid extra for the steak.

My girlfriend and I went to dinner for her birthday and it was superb. Very fresh dishes and amazing presentation. Good wine list and professional service!
Be the first to ReplyBig let down!!
I first visited Roka in the summer of 2022, lovely waitress and food was delicious and plenty of it! However visiting in Jan 2023, I didnโt experience the same service. The brunch menu has been reduced in portion size massively. Our waitress was rude, and dismissive. We kept having to ask for our glasses to be filled when they were clearly empty. The waitress also failed to mention that you could re-order the starters free of charge, we had to ask for more to be bought out. We noticed the tables next to us, also hadnโt been explained you could order more. A real shame, as we used to rave about this place all the time. Just not the same anymore, and was painful having to pay for lack of food and terrible service!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food!
We had a lovely dinner here- everything was amazing. Beautiful ambience and amazing food. The sushi is just melting in the mouth and every-single thing we ordered was fab!
Be the first to ReplyGone downhill
Really bad! Definitely lost its shine and not what it used to be! Food average at best. Service a 2/5. Unhelpful to say the least. Loud rowdy brunchers stumbling whilst leaving at 6pm. Tacky tacky tacky! Save your money and go elsewhere in lovely London. Also do not bring kids! Gone are the days of bento boxes and friendly chefs. Never again

Party of 5. 3 had the tasting menu and 2 had the veg tasting menu. My goodness. Quite possibly one of the best meals I've had. Service was great too - particularly our server (I forgot her name I'm sorry) Will definitely visit again.

Be the first to ReplySimply the best โฆ
They have mastered it all : excellent food & service.
Staff are most pleasant & helpful.
Very nicely run & managed.
We all had the premium set lunch with the blackened cod.
Absolutely fabulous!
Aldwych is my favourite Roka spacious and elegant with a really good energy lunch with my wife and son as a late Motherโs Day treat we had the premium lunch menu which is a really good deal. The food was of the standard Iโve always come to expect delicious and of course great presentation as well as excellent service from our waitress Vicki and I almost forgot great cocktails . I canโt wait for a return visit.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food
I've come here multiple times over the years. Surprisingly, the food has gotten better in time. Really excellent now. Wide choice of Asian fusion type of dishes. The miso black cod was outstanding. On the expensive side, but not that far out of synch for a very nice meal in central London. Nice contemporary design. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. The place is loud when busy, which is the only small drawback in my opinion. Overall, highly recommended.

Just enjoyed a fantastic meal here for dinner with my girlfriend. Our server was Vicki and she was amazing! Very accommodating and kind. Definitely a must-try in London.
