Lunch at Rick Stein’s in Barnes
I think I gave this restaurant 5* at the time as everything was excellent, the staff absolutely top notch with their service and the food superb. I have given my children gift vouchers to eat there so I obviously rate it highly. Only downside is the parking in nearby roads which is not easy

Terrible - food very standard at very expensive prices. The wine prices were incredibly inflated for very average wines and the processco was flat. Lighting terrible for epileptics. While the manager tried to do something, all the lighting was on one curcuit. One person was sensitive to the lighting as an epileptic. Apparently is it is reoccuring issue.

Never even knew this place was in Barnes, we’ve missed out !! It was amazing, the service was excellent, food out of this world and the ambiance was perfect. No issues with booking, getting to the table or food delays, was simply a perfect visit. Not the cheapest place to eat but you get what you pay for and we left very satisfied customers who will be returning very soon. Highly recommended

Excellent… sceptical about a Rick Stein restaurant not in Cornwall.. but this place did not disappoint! Amazing staff and great food -cannot wait to come back
Be the first to ReplyPretty nice, but not worth the price
The restaurant is very pretty and this makes for a great date spot, the service was average we waited for ages to order the staff would not come despite it being quiet, I had to call them over in the end. The liver starter was bland the sardines were nice, the cod in the fish and chips very good unfortunately it came with skinny fries and not proper chips... I beleive for the price and simplicity of the menue it should be excellent but sadly many cheaper places surpace this place.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal and service
We visited on a Friday lunchtime. The food was excellent. The best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGreat good, bad service
Great food. The fish and shellfish soup is excellent. And the fish and chips. Wonderful. But the service. Terrible. We ordered wine. It didn’t show. When we queried where it was, we were told that they didn’t have any of the type we had ordered, but the waiter had decided not to let us know. Eventually we managed to order some wine that they did have. But no apology for the service!! And then we we paid the bill, the waiter was incredibly rude and wanted to see my husband’s signature on his passport! Really. So wonderful place. Great location. Fantastic food but the service could be drastically improved. A shame for Rick. But it needs to be fixed.

Watching rick on bbc for years it was my wish to go to his place in barnes. It was more and better then i had hoped for. Ricks champagne with britisch oysters, peppers and bred with macrelbutter, perfect. Ok but no real skills are required for that! Perfect quality has to be said. Then his seabass perfectly grilled with outstanding potatos , the salade seasing could have been more exciting ,but was good. Before the eastside mussels, wauw what a dressing. The scallops not only cooked the way it should and with a heavenly dressing. And waiter taij from India, helping, discreat and marvelous. All with ricks sauvignon and burgundy White. Mama, these britts can Cook. At the end for me only room for the somerset brandy cider, what a beautiful end. Most times you go to a fameus chef, you are disappointed.but ricks crew served him right. Sportless on the dot and really good. Yes you pay, but you get a incredible evening. One remark only, i saw they charged me again for the prepaid champagne. But Send a email , i am sure it will be corrected. It was worth while ging from amsterdam too barnes. Rick you get kisses from amsterdam.

We’ve had several good meals in this restaurant but this visit was a real let down. The service was slow, had to wait a while to order our drinks. The starter portions were tiny. Main course was over cooked and dry. No one said goodbye or even noticed we were leaving. Don’t think we’ll be returning.
Be the first to ReplyFresh Seafood & Amazing Location on the Thames
Stein's in Barnes is located on the river in Mortlate - if you can request a riverside table, do, even if it's evening and dark. The ambience is great, and the restaurant is modern and well-maintained. The staff are friendly and courteous, although for the price of the restaurant I would expect the dishes to be delivered directly to the person that ordered them rather than the 'that's mine' etiquette of less-salubrious restaurants. The food is excellent with a wide-ranging of costs to suit most budgets. Myself and my partner had three courses, and all were excellent. The sea-food is fresh, and the portions are substantial for a high-quality restaurant. The monkfish in particular I would highly recommend. The wine list is extensive, with a similar range from cost-effective bottles to high-end. The cocktails are also fantastic, their rum old-fashioned was moorish and delicious. Three courses, two cocktails and a bottle of wine, inclusive of tip was just over £200. Albeit not a cheap dinner, for the quality and amount of food, I cannot complain. We have visited two of Rick Stein's restaurants now, and would certainly visit one again.

We had a wonderful afternoon - the food was sublime, service was excellent - especially our fabulous waiter Adrian (apologies for incorrect spelling - I don’t know the correct Spanish way). On our table we had oysters, mussels, crab, kidneys, sardines to start then steak, lobster and sea bass. Every dish was was beautifully cooked and well presented. We will definitely be back. Thank you for an amazing time.
Be the first to ReplyNice food , very poor service.
Having been to Rick’s restaurant in Padstow and Sandbanks in the past, I had high expectations of Barnes. Sadly I was disappointed. Staff took a long time to bring our drinks and appetisers. We had specifically asked for a river view (having booked a long time in advance and t was a weekday) but instead got an inside table . The starter and mains were delicious, but we just felt generally let down by the poor service and attitude of some of the waiting staff. One or two of them also looked a bit dirty and scruffy, which was a bit of a turn off . Not sure how often Rick stein pays an unannounced visit to the branch at Barnes, but he needs to sooner rather than later before it gets any worse.

Booked a table for four online in early afternoon for early every. Great location and friendly staff. Unfortunately the food for me was pedestrian. My sardines were only cooked on one side, the other side so raw that reluctant to come off the bones. We all had fish and chips, the fish described as large by our waitress. The portion was good, the batter crisply brown and the fish tending to over cooked. The six chips neatly laid out seemed manufactured and didn’t let related to potatoes. They were so crisp as to be hard outside whilst textureless inside. The small dish of mushy peas were rather grey and overwise okay. The dish of tartar sauce straight from a jar and without texture or flavour. Dessert of raspberry frangipani tart and ice cream was lacking raspberries and tasted factory made. The ice cream was liquid. Rose wine was pleasant. They must be doing something right as the restaurant was full on a Tuesday evening. However I am not planning to return.

The service was impeccable. Location great. However attention to detail was lacking. Having visited Padstow our expectations were high naturally. The food, on all courses, with all of our guest choices, were way too salty apart from the chowder which was underwhelming. On our table there were two pepper pots instead of salt and pepper. Even though the salt was definitely not needed this was not what one would expect. The mixed salad with fine herbs, contained nothing but varying SALTED lettuce leaves, not a herb in sight, for £4.50. Perhaps this could include some additional cucumber ? The 3 scallops at £18.50 were of varying sizes, at Padstow each scallop was exactly the same size. The vanilla ice cream was tasteless. And sadly the coffee was lukewarm at best. I doubt we will be returning

Having visited before on a couple of occasions, today’s experience was somewhat underwhelming. Service was inattentive to start with and while I don’t like to be rushed the delay in ordering was frustrating. The Halloumi appetiser was tasty, as was the linguine starter my daughter ordered. But my salmon fish cakes were heavy in texture and had very little potato. Most disappointing was the Turbot which at £45 had a strange gelatinous texture and not a lot of flavour and the hollondaise sauce appeared to have split. So, overall impression is that standards have slipped which is a shame.
Be the first to ReplyNot good enough
Lovely location and room but the chowder was totally tasteless - unseasoned cream with small pieces of indeterminate fish and potato. Fish cakes were fine but garnish minimal. My friend (who was paying) noticed that the she had been overcharged. Waiter went away for 6 minutes and came back with a corrected bill, no plausible explanation for the error (we had ordered the 2 course set price menu and been charged full price for each item) and no apology. Very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous location, terrific food and service
We were meeting friends for lunch and they suggested Rick Stein's. The location is on the banks of a small river, and was apparently the site of an old brewer. It has been spectacularly renovated, and has several beautiful rooms and a lovely bar. The menu is primarily seafood, and has several original selections - all of us had something different, and each dish was superb. Service is of the highest professional standard, but is not stuffy - warm, friendly and efficient.

Okay so this is the second time i'm writing this because it didn't save the first time! LOL I cant stress how amazing this place is and how nice the staff are...they are so attentive and welcoming and make you feel like family. I honestly have never felt as welcome going to any restaurant in my 38 years on this earth. You can tell that people at Ricks take pride in what they do from the bar staff to the chefs to the cleaners they all make this the most amazing place in the world. I must mention people by name, Hannah, Adrian, Jean-Francois you honestly are a credit to this restaurant. Mr stein if you ever get to read these please know your team is truly amazing and are a credit to your brand and your restaurant. Thank you all so much for making this restaurant amazing . see you next week Ty x
Be the first to ReplySuperbe Rick Stein experience in Barnes
We rather spontaneously decided to dine at Rick Stein in Barnes during our last visit to London. As we were only making our booking the day before, the only slot was at 5:30 PM, which we normally avoid. But this time, we were so glad we did as we would have missed out on a fantastic experience. We traveled by bus and were amazed how rural London becomes on the way to Barnes. The overall dining experience was wonderful, the food very nice, Rick Stein's Macon wine excellent as always and thanks to the wonderful staff we had a fantastic time in the restaurant. The views onto the River Thames are an added bonus. We will certainly come back.
