Sad German World War II Cemetery
We visited this German Cemetery that was actually constructed by the Allies after the Battle of the Bulge. It was pretty sad and depressing. The government of Germany only budgets about 10% of the money needed for upkeep of the military cemeteries. The rest comes from a foundation. Since World War II is more and more in our distant past, the Germans are finding that donations are not coming in like in the past. The cemetery has only one groundskeeper. Some of these German boys were only 16 years old, but they are interred in a disgraced cemetery. It is sad ... I would never want to glorify the Nazis in any way, but it stops and makes you think a bit about karma!

The parking lot is small, but we were the only ones there, so it wasnโt an issue. From the parking lot, itโs about a five minute walk through the woods to get to the cemetery. Itโs really quite pretty. A little creek runs under a stone bridge leading to the cemetery. There are some trees, and even a few wildflowers blooming. They buried two to a grave here, and itโs especially sad to see the markers that say, โTwo German soldiersโ, with no names (unknown).

Being English I think sometime I forget the sacrifices that other nations made during the Second World War, whilst Germany were the invading force we should not forget that many young German soldiers laid down there lives. I came across the cemetery by accident whilst walking around the area and was touched by its maintenance a calmness. When looking at the gravestones I was impacted by the young ages of those that died. All of those present died in a very short period of time in May 1940.

Totally opposite of the american war cemetery, this is a sober war cemetery for German. It's located in the hidden woody area, not far from the american cemetery. The darker color of the crosses here give you different atmosphere. It was good to be here once.
