Red Ginger Traverse City Reviews from The Last Year
Outstanding.
Outstanding experience. Friendly, knowledgeable, pleasant and attentive service by our server, Rilyn. We had had a full day of traveling, sightseeing and wine tastings and decided to just enjoy margaritas and a few appetizers here at Red Ginger. We sat at the bar and had a great show of artistic and skillful sushi preparations. Our appetizers of lettuce wraps, calamari and pot stickers were delicious. If I lived here in TC, Red Ginger would be a favorite.
Asian good, pot stickers bad
Birthday dinner with son and DIL. All the entrees were superb, as were the appetizer spring roll and sushi/sashimi. However, the pot stickers my husband had were small, chewy and not that tasty.
Delicious food in a cool venue
We were on vacation and came here with friends who used to live locally and highly recommended it. The food was delicious, the service was very good and the ambiance was cool. We started with the Chinese Ribs, which were really good, edamame and Dragon Wings (which are unlike any wings we’ve seen anywhere else). I had the Lettuce Wraps as my dinner and there was plenty left over (for our friends to take home). Our friends had the Vietnamese Shaking Beef and Thai Chicken Curry, which they liked (and have had here before). My wife had the Asian Noodles which she liked. They have a nice bar selection, too.
Ging a favorite of everyone in town.
Go early not easy to get a table or a seat at the bar. There's nowhere else to get sushi in Traverse City. Service and food is good. Not expensive.
Red Ginger is located in the heart of downtown Traverse
Red Ginger is located in the heart of downtown Traverse City right on Front Street and right next to the State Theater - you can't ask for a more central location than this! During the summer, the locals have told me that it is nearly impossible to get seating here without an impossibly long wait given that this is basically one of the only sushi offerings in the city and so centrally located that everyone flocks to here. We came in the winter (early February) and it was still busy even on a weekday at 7 pm! So busy that there was only bar seating available remaining, but the fact that we were seated right away was such a luxury my local friends to here had never experienced and they were delighted by it. So we sat at their "bar," which refers to the entire front of the restaurant. The bar area is actually quite large, we weren't at the bar counter, but actually a high top table next to it. There is both bar seating and kitchen counter seating where you can watch them making sushi, as well as a ton of high top and regular top tables throughout the front of the restaurant that make up the "bar area". The back 2/3rds of the restaurant is booths and other tables that are the main area of the restaurant, but the bar area serves the full menu, so it was perfect for us! The menu is definitely a ton of Asian fusion, which is a little off-putting for me, as an Asian haha, but ultimately the sushi rolls were surprisingly decent and this is definitely somewhere I'd recommend in the area for a more upscale kind of meal and if you're in the mood for sushi. They do combinations that I've never experienced before (that's where the fusion comes in), so just note that what you're getting here will not be authentic (plus it's white-owned and operated), but for what it is, it's good. I got two rolls and was more than full on them. The first was the Chef Dan's Signature roll, which was butter poached shrimp, asparagus, truffled bacon aioli, soy paper, and garlic chips, and it ran $18. I can tell you I honestly didn't really taste the truffled bacon aioli, but everything else was good on it. I also got the lobster tempura roll, which ran $20. I obviously know that the items I ordered are more pricey because of the type of seafood I ordered as well, so this is definitely at the high end of their rolls pricing. They give you a good amount of filling to sushi rice ratio, so I didn't feel like it was highway robbery by any means to charge that much. Last thing of note is that I can tell they are trying to curate an air of classiness and sophistication within their restaurant. They even have a dress code on their website and embossed into the window next to their door to dress in "elegant/business casual" attire, which is definitely super peculiar. You can come in wearing your beach attire or just casual clothes (the way that my friends and I walked in), but then that just means you can't sit in the "restaurant" area, only at the bar & lounge LOL so...make of that what you will.
Upscale is the best word.
Tune in to the dress code before venturing over there. This is clearly $$$ dining. The cost to value ratio is balanced, if you enjoy top notch Asian cuisine. The atmosphere is most inviting, not too fancy, yet worthy. If you are in the know on this fare, order the Miso Cod. Excellent! All of the dishes I tried were fabulous. More than just dining, the entire experience was wonderful. From their incredible staff to the wide range of traditional offerings tailored with a modern flare. The chefs must be World class! 03/24

We went here for restaurant week and as usual it didn't disappoint. I had Chinese ribs for an appetizer. They were coated in a five spice bbq sauce. Are you supposed to lick your fingers at a restaurant? I don't care it was so good. For a main course I had shaking beef. The sauce is a little spicy and so rich. It's by far my favorite thing on the menu. For desert I had a chocolate cake with raspberry ice cream. The whole meal was just amazing. Red ginger is expensive but it always has the best food and service. Great place for a date night or anniversary. It can get a little loud in there but the ambiance is charming. I would say it's the best restaurant in Traverse City.
Our food was absolutely exceptional.
We had the Chinese ribs and minced chicken in lettuce leaves for apps, then Thai curry and an ahi tuna bowl for entrees. Dan was our waiter, nice, prompt, non-invasive. Excellent Asian restaurant, the best in the entire area.
My first time here was a surprise after I got engaged down
My first time here was a surprise after I got engaged down the street and it was absolutely perfect! The service was great, and the food was incredible! We cannot wait to come back! Maybe wedding weekend in August!

I used to live in the area and Red Ginger was one of my favorite restaurants so we always make an attempt to return. We ordered 4 different roles, and for the price, it was the most mediocre sushi. One roll was the Spicy Salmon roll and it did not taste fresh and I was terrified I'd get food poisoning, I was thankful I was wrong. The restaurant is still beautiful, the staff is always pleasant, but the food/price no longer makes it worth it. Each time we visit the restaurant we're disappointed more and more and this time was our last straw.
100% on food, service & ambiance!! Probably won't eat
100% on food, service & ambiance!! Probably won't eat anywhere else ever again in TC!!
Fantastic, as usual
It had been a year or more since we'd been in TC and this was our favourite restaurant. We now remember why. Stopped in here a couple days ago for some drinks and some sushi, while visiting TC. Food was fantastic, it has a great atmosphere, and service was as amazing as we had remembered it (thanks, Tyler!).
Excellent food and service!
What a great consistent restaurant. The service is always impeccable and the food is so creative, delicious and beautifully put together. I come here a couple times a year from down south and am always impressed at the quality of the food and service. Keep up the great work!
Consistently delicious, great atmosphere & friendly
Consistently delicious, great atmosphere & friendly attentive staff. The kids chicken bento box is a fave of our non-'adventurous eater!
Absolutely delicious.
The service was excellent and the ambience is delightful. The bar is fun, but if you are sitting close to the front door in the winter time, it can be cold.
Excellent Service
Excellent service and delicious food. Our friends had the tuna poke, Indian curry, Thai curry, and salmon. Very fresh and delicious!!!!
The Best food and service!!! Great atmosphere!!
The yizu roll was delicious, as was the Thai Caesar Salad, followed by the perfectly cooked Salmon which was loaded with vegetables!! Yummy!! The bartender Tyler was awesome! He had great suggestions and he is always so polite and professional!! Thank you Dan and Pam! See you next time.
A Little Gem. Don't miss this restaurant if you love Sushi!
Great atmosphere inside and out on back deck along with great service. Thank you Teri W. We ordered Seared Salmon, Chef Dan's Roll, and spring rolls. All were delicious and fresh. I would go back over and over again!

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
