Made reservations for my son's 21st birthday.
Staff was very helpful, explained the menu with great detail and had great recommendations. Food by excellent! The ambiance was relaxing. Overall, nice dinner with the entire family.

We had a reservation but they put us at a table in the center with the bartender as our server. She was okay but very busy and not as attentive. My wife ordered an espresso martini which was good and I had a Blanton's which ended up being a $65 drink (fine, I didn't ask the price) but I asked for it neat with a large cube on the side. My drink came with a large cube in my expensive bourbon, which I wasn't happy about. I expected more attention to drink detail from the bartender. The large cube is an extra $2, and wasn't special - not worth it. We had to ask for water refills. We ordered the Salmon Crudo, which was delicious but needed more of those chips. And the Parker House Rolls, which were good but complimentary at other expensive steak places; you don't pay extra $14 for the bread rolls. For the entree, we ordered the Associate Board, which came with Tri-Tip, Denver and Filet slices, ordered Medium Rare. Of these, the Denver was okay, Filet was really good, but that TRI-TIP was SPECTACULAR! For sides we got Broccolini which was good and Mushrooms which were delicious but salty. The ambiance and dress are very casual, and the location is very difficult for parking. No valet. Overall, I feel like this place charges high end dinner prices without the value and quality of service. Not sure I will be back here, but maybe to get that Tri-Tip again.
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here as a party of 4.
For starters we had the bacon, rolls, ravioli, lamb lollipops, wedge salad. Ordered the associate board as our entree. It was definitely on the rarer side for medium. The salsa was memorable, but the sauces overall were lacking and I'm a sauce person. Sides were onion rings, broccolini, truffled mashed potatoes. I found the sides to be prety average and $28 potatoes felt a bit much honestly. Best stuff: bacon, lamb, rolls. Weak stuff: onion rings, ravioli, salad. Associate platter; enough food for 4 if you order a lot of other stuff. Sides: unmemorable so choose wisely. This dinner was close to $500 before tip which is a bit on the higher side for a casual non celebratory Saturday night. I liked the ambiance here and the small booths so you can actually converse without shouting. Service was great and food mostly solid (80%). I'd go back again and be a bit more selective with the choices.

Service (Kevin) was amazing but the food!! We had the Parker House Roll, Associate Board and the Butter Cake! Absolute perfection! Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyI loved everything about this place.
I visited February 9th for my sister's 39th birthday. I called ahead to let them know we were behind, and they were readily available to seat us at our table as we arrived. The hostess was sweet, and our server was amazing. He had great suggestions and a great manner. It was an intimate setting, and though you felt close to those sitting next to you, it felt private as well. Now the FOOD was amazing. We ordered the bread we had been hearing so much about, only to find out they had no more ... but our server was able to locate some abs brought it to the table. Super epic . We had the Tartare for an appetizer, my first time eating that, and it was so flavorful with the chips and it melted in your mouth. That was a great first time experience. We had the presidents board, something of that nature. Either way, the display of the meat was mouth watering and once we bit into the meat, I was more than happy. Our server gave us a background of the different meats, and as we tasted each, I could absolutely tell the difference as we moved through the plate. Everything was spectacular and we'll definitely be returning. Thank you for making my sister's birthday special, can't wait to dine with you all again.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing atmosphere, great food and I would go again.
I love the menu is simple. The broccolini was the best I ever had
Be the first to ReplyLast night had some family in town.
Decided to ask around and heard nothing but good things about this establishment. The exterior is unique and it only gets more impressive inside. Small and quaint very clean. The great service added to the experience. The attention was on point and the courses were timely. The food was delicious. We had several appetizers (tuna tarter, oysters and shrimp), added salads, meat (tri-tip and filet mignon) with some sides. All delicious and very tasty. It is a little on the pricey side but worth it for sure.
Be the first to ReplySo, really looking forward to this place.
Arrived for a 5:00 rezzie at 5:05. Seated right away, our waiter Kevin was great. Got our drinks, oysters, bread, etc. Made our orders for dinner and then....90 minutes later, nothing. We left. Can't comment on the steaks because we never got them. If you have 2 hours to waste before you get your entrees, this is the place for you.

Matt!!! Such an incredible server that really elevated our experience here. The food was phenomenal, everything we ordered was in Matt's recommendation and absolutely everything was delicious. It was such a nice ambiance and very enjoyable.
Be the first to ReplyVery solid Steakhouse in San Diego.
Loved the decor and service from the start. I ordered the associate, Caesar, au gratin potatoes, and ravioli. The Caesar had sooooooo much cheese on it. Wasn't to my liking but they did state that on the menu so I was prepared. The sauces that came with the steaks on the associate tray were very tasty. The au gratin potatoes were honestly the best in town. Def try this spot and it will be added to your rotation of steakhouses.

Omg... where to start? The service is always so personable and lovely. All the sides are incredible! The steaks are amazing quality. One of our favorite spots.
Be the first to ReplyVery good! We started with the bread, super tasty.
Our server was very attentive, though I forget his name. We got the executive board, delicious, but I missed the part where he said it was for 3-4 people. So we had leftovers, the meats weren't as warm as I was hoping. But still was good. We also got the broccolini- sooo good. And ended the night with the buttercake, which sadly was a let down. Just tasted like vanilla cake. Del friscos and Nicks blow this buttercake out of the water... would try a different dessert next time. cute little restaurant not too loud! I am looking forward to trying the Solana beach location with my husband.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a bummer to write, but here goes.
We've been to Rare Society probably 9-10 times in the past year and have enjoyed every meal, except for last night. We had issues with the food, the service, and the atmosphere as well. Apparently there is a new sous chef and new floor manager and both seem to have been mistakes. The burger on the bar menu has been a favorite of ours, except it's been changed in some utterly terrible ways. It used to have a great combo of jammy caramelized onions and a nicely umami cheese. The "new" presentation has a bizarrely wet/saucey top that reeks of overly pungent cheese, to the point that all we could taste was this overly sauced stinky cheese. It ruined what was a previously perfectly balanced burger. We sat at the bar, and on a Friday night they had only one bartender both making drinks and taking orders for bar food. We felt bad for the bartender since there were multiple other staff members behind the bar but none of them seemed to take orders or help besides running drinks to tables. There was an overwhelmingly bad egg smell as well, so much that it wasn't clear if something was wrong in the kitchen or just a terrible dish with nasty sulfur smells was being consumed near us. The food took forever to come out as well, and our onion rings were cold and had obviously been sitting for a long time. The combo was really disappointing as we live nearby and have loved every meal there. Hope they get it together and restore the burger to its previous glory and get the staffing and service situation sorted.
Be the first to ReplyBeen a few times to a few of their locations.
.. good service, descent starters (get the bacon) and cuts paired with your traditional desserts. We dined as a party of 6, everyone enjoyed their food and ambiance!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for happy hour and the food never disappoints.
Highly, HIGHLY recommend their burger. It is seriously SO good. Rare Society is a neat location. I wish they had more seating for their happy hour that only lasts for 1 hour (5:00 - 6:00pm). Ordered the wedge salad (more like a half) and it was very filling. Bigger portion that expected. Everyone is always super nice here.

One of the best steakhouses that I've been to in SD! Our waiter was great- informative and honest and the ambiance was just perfect for a date night. All of the steaks are grilled over a real fire and salted to perfection definitely try all the steak sauces they offer!

I recently visited Rare Society and had an absolutely amazing meal. The steak was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful sear on the outside and a juicy, tender center that melted in my mouth. The cuts were expertly seasoned and prepared with the utmost care, showcasing the quality of the meat. The sides were also incredibly flavorful and well-executed. From the creamy mashed potatoes to the savory roasted vegetables, each dish was well-balanced and complemented the steaks perfectly. The overall dining experience was enhanced by the attentive and friendly staff, who made me feel welcome and comfortable throughout my visit.Overall, I highly recommend Rare Society to anyone who is a fan of delicious, high-quality steaks. The combination of the amazing food and the stylish ambiance make it a must-visit destination for any steak lover. Give it a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyThis is such a tough review to write.
From strictly a food standpoint, Rare Society gets an A+. For dining experience, I was blown away. But the ending to our meal cast an unfortunate pall that I feel has to be weighed against the other things. So we booked my 40th birthday dinner here after hearing tremendous things about the Solana Beach location. A friend of mine handled all the arrangements beforehand, which consisted of email communication with someone from within the company.Because of our party's size we were informed we would have to accept a pre-set menu with a fixed cost per person. This was fine, and we were able to select from three separate levels ($175/$135/$95 per person). All were viable but we opted for the middle tier (titled "Associate") as it gave us more options without expecting everyone to spend too much before drinks. All the appetizers, sides, and desserts were selected for us (3-4 for each), with a salad option (Caesar or wedge) and four meat options: 8 oz filet mignon, 16 oz Cedar River prime bullseye ribeye, 20 oz 40-day dry-aged bone-in NY strip steak, or branzino. We ended up having 13 people RSVP, and my friend had to give the restaurant a final count two days before along with a $10 deposit per person, which was fine. Of course, on the day of, things happen. We ended up having nine guests in total, and so we figured worst case scenario is we lose the $40 deposit for those additional people.Dinner was, by every person's account, truly fantastic. Our server was attentive and friendly, we never once felt like we were being rushed between courses, and every food item and drink that we received was absolutely phenomenal. In terms of appetizers, the standout was the bacon which actually ended up being more of a pork belly (not complaining). Both salad options were great; the wedge was standard but had a really great quality of ingredients.I opted for the bullseye ribeye and it was perfection. I was able to try the NY strip as well and both cuts of meat were marvelous. I would recommend either but probably give the edge to the NY strip. I heard both the filet and branzino were delicious as well. The sides were good but didn't really do any heavy lifting; I'd say the standout was the roasted mushrooms.I actually forgot about dessert by the time it came out because we had already eaten so much, but man do not skip dessert here. The king of kings is the butter cake, which came out warm and topped with a sour cream ice cream. This might be my favorite dessert in SD after just one sitting. I could have eaten so much of this. The creme brulee was what you'd expect, in a good way. Unfortunately they subbed out the expected bananas foster cheesecake with a Butterfinger tart that was still excellent. Dessert got top marks across the board with the slight caveat that people were looking forward to the cheesecake. So, all in all a great dinner, one that we would talk up to everyone we know, right? Well, about that. I came back from the bathroom after a long line to find the party in a state of disarray.Apparently when the bill came, it included the $135 per person for the four people that couldn't make it. In other words, they tacked on nearly $700 extra including tax and gratuity. We were told we had been served for 13 people so we were expected to pay for all 13.This was of course ludicrous, as we had not been served enough family style appetizers or desserts for 13 people, had not received 13 salads, and had not received 13 main courses of protein. The restaurant's first solution was to bag up 4 additional raw steaks for us to take to-go and deposit them on our table. This was a huge deal and ended up being something we had to deal with for way too long. Finally, my friend who had handled the booking took over and asked to speak to the manager outside. Here's what ended up happening:1. Manager repeated the claim that we had been served for 13. This was obviously false; see above.2. Manager then tried to say they had set aside all the ingredients for our party's size. This was turned quickly by pointing out that we weren't made to select entrees until we were there. What if we had all ordered fish?3. Manager then tried to say the restaurant could have "sold" the four seats. Weak argument.4. Manager then claimed we had signed a contract, which we most certainly had not.In the end, we did not have to pay for the no-shows. They took the meat back. But the fact we had to deal with it at all really dampened the evening. Why would you risk the word of mouth from so many customers just to try and make an extra $540?Will I go back to Rare Society? Yes, absolutely. Will I caution anyone from booking a group event there? Yeah, probably. It just is what it is.Truly unfortunate that such an epic dinner was derailed so spectacularly because of greed. I imagine this place really shines in a date setting or a four-top, and that's what I'll plan for next time. Already can't wait.
Be the first to ReplyCame here to celebrate a birthday dinner.
Our party was quite large so we made a reservation ahead of time and were seated once we arrived. This place is quite expensive and unfortunately the menu items were either a hit or miss for me. I ordered the Parker House Rolls, the Ricotta Ravioli, and the Shrimp Scampi. The Shrimp Scampi was a disappointing as it was such a small amount and lacked flavor. For the $19 price, I had a much higher expectation. The Ricotta Ravioli was absolutely delicious and well worth the price. The Parker House Rolls were a good appetizer as they came out quickly but I was not a fan of the truffle taste. Most of the portions are huge and I would recommend going for a family style meal if you want to try a lot of the items. Our server was polite and brought out our drinks quickly but it took him a while before he came back to take our order. After we ordered, it took about 40 minutes before all of our main dishes came out. I understand that we were a larger party and they wanted to bring out all our meals at once, but it was a little disappointing as some of the items were hotter than others. It seemed like they let some of the dishes sit for a while before bringing them to our table. I liked that the brought out a Baked Alaska for the birthday celebrant. Parking isn't the best here so plan to come ahead of time to find a spot. We parked in the neighborhood and it was a short walk to the restaurant.

The service here is 100/10! The staff is so attentive and always checking up on you. From refilling your water, to checking in if you need anything else, you will be taken care of! I have been here two times for happyHour and both times have been exceptional! The Wagu burger and Brussel sprouts are my go to! The Wagu burger is juicy and the sweet caramelize onions brings the burger together. The fries are soft inside and comes out piping hot. Im excited to come back and try the executive plate!
Be the first to ReplyI have been looking forward to going to rare society fit
I have been looking forward to going to rare society fit quite a while. I think I set my expectations a little too high.We for an early dinner. The Parker dinner rolls were good, a nice way to start the meal. The filet was tender cooked a little under but still tender. Potatoes came out cold. Mac and cheese was good and the broccolini definitely needed the added yogurt to somewhat balance the flavor. We were celebrating a big birthday so we decided on the creme brûlée for dessert. Sadly our drinks sat empty throughout our whole entrees and were only asked if we would like another just as our dessert arrived. The creme brûlée came out with a small candle that was lit and it was just dropped off - no happy birthday and we were charged for the birthday dessert - we don't mind paying but at least make a little effort for the birthday. The host also kept coming and looking over as if she was waiting on us to hurry up and leave so she could have the table, it made us feel extremely rushed. Our meal was also quite uncomfortable with the many flies that kept swarming around us and landing on the food and our glasses!Glad I finally got to visit but I will most definitely not be in a rush back.
Be the first to ReplyTri tip was delicious.
Service was excellent, maybe a bit over the top. Red snapper was way over-seasoned and too salty. Sauce served with snapper was tasteless. Sautéed mushrooms were also too salty. Creamed corn was good. Fried onion rings were good, but lots of dough. Small, not super delicious margaritas were $18 apiece. Total bill $250 for 2 (including 20% tip, because it's not her fault), was WAY overpriced for the over salted meal. Will not return! So many more wonderful Santa Barbara restaurants to return to. (local, since 1980)

I can't speak to the full dining experience here but I came for happy hour, sat at the bar and had a wonderful experience! The decor and vibe of this restaurant is very nice & trendy. Kevin the bartender was awesome. He provides excellent service and great recommendations on the food. My friend and I both enjoyed the happy hour wine. It was on the higher end and very well priced. We ordered the meatballs, Brussel sprouts and Philly steak spring rolls, which were all on the happy hour menu. Every item was delicious and full of flavor.Needless to say we left fat & happy with full bellies of great food and good wine.
