Raf's New York Reviews from The Last Year
Raf's was a pleasant surprise.
I happened to find it and loved the cozy atmosphere. Service was personable and friendly and the food delivered. The accompanying salad was delicious as well as the chicken which was flashed fried. This is one of those cafes where you can easily be a regular. Great place to stop by for lunch.
Raf's is just lovely.
A chocolate croissant topped with sea salt and nuts, a classy NoHo decor, and service that is attentive and polite. If you're in the area, you should absolutely check it out
Just a terrible experience here at Raf's.
Almost everything arrived cold, which was even more surprising since we had a 5pm reservation just as they opened for dinner service. Started with the bread basket, which arrived cold. Then we had the leeks vinaigrette, which was also cold. At this point I asked the server if it was supposed to be cold, and she first said yes, then no, and then that she wasn't sure. She finally agreed to go ask the kitchen, and came back and said it was supposed to be served hot (of course!). But since we'd already eaten half, she didn't offer to replace it. I finally negotiated them bringing us at least a HALF serving, served hot. How can a restaurant not automatically replace a dish they botched? Then came the mains. My wife's Iberico pork chop ($48) arrived... cold. When we finally got the server and told her, she tried to tell us that it was because the salad served on top of the meat cools it down. Right. Like a few pieces of greens would drop the temp of a pork chop 30 degrees. They replaced it with a version that was so small, it probably only had 6-8 bites of actual meat. I ordered their signature chicken, which was at least warm, but was really not a good piece of meat. And it wasn't just us. Both tables next to us sent dishes back for being cold. One was the $165 cote de boeuf for two; I could see their dish arrived raw in the center. They sent it back, and when it came back it didn't look much better. One problem was clearly the server. There are only about 10 tables in this restaurant, so it should've been manageable. But every time I looked for her, she was hanging out at the bar, either chatting with the bartender or having a drink while reading her phone. This while all the food in the kitchen was getting cold, I guess. Finally the server then seemed shocked that we wanted the check without having dessert. I went over all the problems again, and when the check came, they didn't even take anything off the bill. Finally the manager came over as we were leaving; I told her everything that had happened, and she also didn't offer to adjust the bill. At this point she should've just voided the whole check, and just charged us for the cocktails, which were decent. She did offer to give us a deal on a future visit, but there's no way I'm ever stepping foot in this place again. This is all pretty bad for a place that's going to run at least $100 per person. I believe this is the first time I've ever given a 1-star review to any restaurant in NYC.
My friend and I met for an impromptu dinner a few weeks ago.
The ambiance was a small restaurant, and reservations were hard to come by. My friend managed to get a reservation for two people, and I did not want to have the FOMO. The restaurant was very strict on taking photos, and their menu stressed no flash photography. This place takes this photography rule pretty seriously because one diner had a huge flash on when they were taking pictures and everyone working there, and neighboring diners were NOT happy. Service was great, and our server was very knowledgeable on what wines to pair with our dishes. 1) Selection of Daily Breads - These breads are freshly made in-house and to order. They were amazing. 2) Escargots - pretty presentation, but we had difficulty getting the contents out of the shells, plus it was very herby. Personally, I wouldn't get this again, but if you want to take a picture of a pretty dish, then order it. 3) Malfaldine - I had mixed feelings about this dish. On the one hand, I didn't taste the shredded rabbit meat. On the other hand, out of the homemade pasta dishes, this is worth ordering due to the quantity of the pasta. 4) Half Chicken - Chicken is very tender, and the portion appeared large due to the addition of bread. This dish is worth ordering. 5) Pomme Frites - Fries were addicting and definitely worth ordering. 6) Carmelized White Chocolate Budino - this dessert was amazing. This is a must order. 7) A glass of the 2019 Cardedu, Canonau di Sardegna, 'Caladu,' Sardegna - this wine paired so well with the savory dishes ordered. The experience was worth the splurge. I'd personally return during the day to taste and order a bunch of their baked goods.
Amazing food and cool ambiance.
Was able to walk in and sit at the bar Saturday morning for brunch. Service was a bit slow but they were busy and it was a nice ambiance so we didn't mind. The food was INCREDIBLE! Very flavorful and beautiful presentation. The only reason for not a 5 star is my friend was clear to order something without cheese, the waiter came by to confirm once again she can't have cheese, and then her order came covered in cheese. We did unfortunately have to send back and they remade but was a bit frustrating/confusing on our end. I would to try more of the menu and come back for dinner as well!
This was hit-or-miss for us.
The bread basket with the butter/olive oil was incredible, and we also loved the anchovies and olives. We wouldn't get the ricotta again, and the mains (leeks, mafaldine, rigatoni) were all good but didn't blow us away. But then we impulsively got an order of fries and those were excellent, and we were truly blown away by both desserts (the ricotta cheesecake with pistachio cream, and the white chocolate budino). Definitely want to try the bakery here.
BE AWARE: DOES NOT HAVE FUNCTIONING RESERVATION SYSTEM IN
BE AWARE: DOES NOT HAVE FUNCTIONING RESERVATION SYSTEM IN PLACE FOR PARTIES OF 5+ Unfortunately I won't be experiencing Raf's because I could not get a response from the restaurant for a reservation for a party of six on a Saturday night two weeks in advance before it was entirely booked. I followed the instructions on Resy exactly to email the restaurant at the correct time in advance for a reservation (reservations drop 14 days in advance) because my party was 5+. The auto-response on all the emails I sent promised a response in 48-72 hours (so not really functioning for reservations). I emailed again. I finally walked to the restaurant on Tuesday and asked -- the very nice woman took my name and number and promised she would pass it on. I did finally get a response, with the excuse that they are closed on Mondays. But of course they they were fully booked at that point.
Average Manhattan Italian nothing special.
Maybe a little overpriced. Restaurant on the small coze side which is nice.
big fan! came just for the pastries which were delicious.
10/10 no notes on the caramelized onion roll. the icing on the olive oil cake was WAY too sweet but we just scraped it off and enjoyed the decadence of the cake itself. it was sooo moist and i'd go back for it. chocolate croissant was good. latte was good, nothing special though. service was extremely friendly and we were sat immediately on saturday at 11:30am, i was surprised there was no wait. it got really full around noon though. the vibes were also beautiful.
I was here for the famous burger.
With price labels as $28, it wasn't a disappointment like I had a lot recently among NYC's high end burgers. I never noticed there was a wood fire oven in the kitchen until I tasted the burger. Smoky and crispy, you can actually taste the fire doing its work. It wasn't a burger that emphasized on juiciness of the patty, as simple as it is, the flavor made it one of my top 5 burgers in the city. Besides the burgers, I gave a huge boost for their espresso, fruity and balance, never thought I would run into this in a French cafe. Nothing can cheer me up more than a burger with espresso in a Saturday brunch. Raf's is separated into a cafe and a dining area with each having around 5 tables and 15 seats. Warm and classy colors made me feel incredibly comfortable in a morning after hangover.
Very good place
This is a great place for stay in a place informal and formal if you want. Located in front of Bryant Park, wit a beautiful view of this part of the city. Good attention and the people there is very kindly and oriented to make you feel good. the food and drinks are great.
A Friday night empty restaurant
No beer was a bad start, followed by dry chicken, terrible tuna, cold French fries and a Caesar salad that consisted of four big leafs of old lettuce, a yellowish sauce, allegedly some anchovies, though they couldn't be seen or tasted, and warm water. I did not think it was possible to get a meal this bad in Manhattan.
RAF's I my new favorite restaurant.
They just got everything right. Beyond the food, the decor is impeccable, the vibe is just right and you leave feeling good inside. Also, if you're lucky enough to have Pheobe as your server you're in for a treat. She's a little ray of sunshine.
Beautiful space.
Service mediocre. Burger, excellent flavor - one of the best dipping sauces in Manhattan - served a bit too rare for my liking. Would ask for this one medium personally. Overall it's a go.
Went back for brunch and YUM! Milanese, burger, rigatoni.
... Milanese was my fave super juicy and crunchy and just so good with a little squirt of lemon... burger was a lil overcooked but flavor was good... rigatoni was cooked PERFECTLY (my favorable al dente) nice little bounce back and a lovely sauce. Olive oil cake had too much frosting for my liking, I prefer not overly sweet desserts but the actual cake was moist and fluffy. Love the vibes but fyi they have a (I think wood burning) open oven in the back so the back of the restaurant gets pretty pretty pretty warm ...
Snagged a weekend lunch reservation at Raf's.
This Italian and French restaurant has a bakery up front so you just order baked goods to go if you're not dining in. The bread basket was a great start, with an assortment of breads and olive oil with butter for dipping. We shared the rigatoni, Iberico collar Milanese and burger. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the pork was nicely crispy. Had to end with a croissant and olive oil cake. The cake was covered in thick frosting, but it would have been better without it. Croissant was super flakey! The other pastries in the bakery looked so good and will be back to try them.
I went here for dinner, and in my opinion the food wasn't
I went here for dinner, and in my opinion the food wasn't the greatest. Maybe they're not as known for dinner service but we had the daily selection of bread, which was decent but not the most amazing bread and the butter was a bit greasy. We had the arancini balls (super greasy but flavorful) and tuna crudo (very fishy and the radish overpowered the tuna). Then came the mains which we got the mafaldine, tuna spaghetti, and pork collar. The mafaldine was very lemon-y and I could see how someone could become overwhelmed with the sourness aspect. The pork collar was nothing special, and the tuna spaghetti had a very sharp texture that did not sit well. Service was great, but I've had better food elsewhere
Not going back
Friends and I went for restaurant week. Very noisy. Tables are pretty close to each other. Service was good. Food came out and it appeared my red snapper sat under the heat lights. Meal looked dried out and was not very tasty. Nothing special about this meal. And, don’t they serve bread? Never saw any bread on any table. Will not return.
I'd rate Raf's four and a half stars.
We scored an awesome deal through too good to go, so my opinion is certainly biased. We picked up a box with a chocolate croissant, a prosciutto and taleggio crossiant sandwich, and a citrus tart for $6. The group typically sells for $23.50, so it's tough for me to fairly evaluate the value. Item wise, my favorite was the prosciutto croissant sandwich. My palate leans to savory and fatty so that hit that mark for me. Second favorite was the tart. Interesting contrast of flavors from the citrus and I believe pine nuts. It had the best shelf life of the group.
Incredible food.
I had an amazing dinner here - the roasted chicken and mafaldine are must try's. Even the simple green salad with Dijon vinaigrette was perfect, though; great attention to detail in every ingredient. I've since returned for coffee, pastries, and lunch and have not been disappointed. The staff (hostesses in particular) sometimes seem overwhelmed / not the most welcoming, but highly recommend overall.
Raf's offers an intimate and romantic ambiance with an open
Raf's offers an intimate and romantic ambiance with an open kitchen, but my dining experience was marred by subpar service. The staff could benefit from additional training to enhance the overall customer experience.
Stopped in for a fancy work-week lunch.
I was specifically looking for a menu item I saw online, the French onion vol-au-vent, which was sadly not on the menu, but there were plenty of other dishes to try, including several vegetarian options. I got the leeks vinaigrette, which was delicious and loaded with crunchy hazelnuts and an herby sauce, and the rigatoni trapanese, which was perfectly al dente with a tangy tomato sauce. They do not skimp on the sauce and flavor here, which I really appreciate! The service was excellent start to finish - everyone I interacted with was so friendly and warm, and anticipated my needs. I'll be going back very soon, and look forward to trying a cocktail or something from the wine list, and especially dessert.
Excellent breakfast meeting spot I was in Midtown for work
Excellent breakfast meeting spot I was in Midtown for work and met up with a friend coming in from Brooklyn. This was a great place to meet given its proximity to the subway. We met at 9:30am and it was not crowded so we were able to enjoy breakfast and catch-up without feeling crowded or rushed. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. Highly recommended.
Horrible Service & Scam
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !! And a scam! We made reservations and were told 1.5 hours, we got there and were told another 20 minutes, we left and came back and were told another 20 minutes while watching people walk in without reservations get a seat instantly. After finally getting a seat we ordered two truffle burgers. They tasted subpar at best. They were $38 each and not worth it. Service was horrible, our waitress did not check on us one time, but checked on the tables on each side of us multiple times. Waitress did not even look at us at all when we were finished so we could ask for the bill, we sat there with our food boxed up for over 15 minutes, all the while she was checking in the tables next to us multiple times. Waitress also gave the tables next to us dessert menus and did not give us one or even ask. All was given was the bill with all the others she checked in with. Also included tip into the bill and it did not say that anywhere, so we left an additional 18% tip on top of the included gratitudy. We did not realize this until after leaving because we were so upset we just wanted to leave. Will not ever be returning to this restaurant and I do not recommend this restaurant .

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
