Quilon London Reviews from The Last Year
Delicious southern Indian cuisine
Quilon lives up to its Michelin star reputation. The menu is laden with delicacies from India’s southern regions. An emphasis on fish and seafood but with enough choices for all preferences. We left ourselves in the hands of the chef who presented a selection of appetizers: mini dosa, chicken hariyali kabab and fish. Followed by fish curry, lamb biriyani and pepper chicken. Everything was delicious as were the cocktails.
Quilon- one of our 3 favorite London restaurants
Quilon is an exquisite South Indian restaurant nestled within the luxurious Taj Hotel, a mere three-minute walk from the Marriott St. Ermin's Hotel. Upon the recommendation of our concierge, we decided to have a late lunch at Quilon and were greeted with the ambiance of elegance and glamour that the Taj Hotel exudes. The restaurant's staff, seemingly all of Indian origin, were incredibly attentive, helpful, and friendly throughout our visit. The atmosphere at Quilon is fashionable and spacious, with well-appointed tables providing a comfortable dining experience. Our lunch began with complimentary appetizers and a delectable hot rasam drink, both bursting with authentic South Indian flavors. The menu offered an extensive selection of wines, beers, cocktails, and mocktails to suit every preference. Quilon's focus on South Indian cuisine sets it apart from other Michelin-starred restaurants, offering a refreshing change from the more common North Indian fare. The dishes we ordered, including crispy okra, roasted potatoes, mango curry, Mysore parathas, and steaming hot white rice, were all out of this world and showcased the restaurant's commitment to delivering exceptional South Indian flavors. Quilon is not to be missed, and it ranks among the top three restaurants we visited in London, alongside Clos Maggiore and Tavolino. This dining experience has left us with a lasting impression and a newfound appreciation for the unique and delightful flavors of South Indian cuisine.
Over rated
Not much to say. Food was salty, Not good for non halal people. Better priced in local area. Fix menu , not good. Not sure why prices so high for the food that is very basic Indian food.
An exceptional brunch
The family visited for a Mother’s Day brunch. The food was of exceptional quality and the service was exemplary. This continues to be the very best South Asian restaurant in the UK.
Not your standard Indian fare
Quilon deserves its Michelin star. The service was friendly, efficient, and unstuffy, the menu unusual in its southwestern coastal cuisine, and the preparation delicious. London has many fine Indian restaurants, but this has to be among the very best.
Great service and interesting flavor combinations with our meal
Amazing service. Traveling with kids under age ten and they both said it was their favorite meal of the trip. The adults did the seafood tasting menu and it was very good. Plenty of food and some interesting flavor combinations. Masala butter lobster was amazing! Would go back for certain!
5 stars all round
My wife and myself had an excellent evening meal at Quillon. We have eaten at many many Indian restaurants over the years but the South Indian cuisine on offer was a revelation compared to your ' standard ' Indian restaurant . The food was very tasty and flavoursome with the use of spices enhancing the quality of the food .The staff were very attentive and knowledable and made us feel valued as customers . We departed as two very satisfied customers .
Very good
Very good food, especially halibut and black cod! Good service, nice place. Can definitely recommend it! Thank you!
Improper treatment at the door
It might be a great restaurant but the lady who we asked if they have a table for the 5 of us was not very respectful. The whole restaurant was empty except two tables and she said they wouldn’t have any space. After we asked if we could wait for a table she first said „10 minutes“. We asked if we could wait at the bar and first she said yes and then all sudden, after she has talked to her colleague, she said we couldn’t wait because the kitchen were about to close. It was a Sunday at 19:53. I don’t think so. She could have said that time would be too short for a tasting menu or whatever the problem might have been. Or better: She could have just been honest and said that they don’t want us there. We all felt quite offended by the way she behaved towards us.
Update after third visit
I've reviewed Quilon previously here on TA. And both times with praise. On our third visit the praise remains, even though we did not quite experience the same absolute joy in every respect. Food still delicious, especially the fish/shellfish dishes. However, the menu could be a bit updated. We lacked the "surprise" feeling and felt that Quilon could do with some innovative thoughts in the kitchen. Service works fine - even though sometimes a bit "quirky". No shortage of staff, so it's more a matter of too many people on the floor than the other way around... It is expensive and during the inflation period the world has gone through recent years, the prices are not going down. It felt a little too expensive this time. In any case, the Quilon deserves its Michelin star. But should perhaps give a careful thought how to keep it in the future...
Hidden gem in st james
Had been looking at booking here for some time but with the strange no prices on website and some of the reviews on here , I was hesitant. Today we took the plunge and we’re not disappointed. The restaurant is situated to the side of the Taj hotel .its a pleasant space and as we were the first to arrive , it felt quiet and calm . We choose a booth seat and as no one was opposite at the facing table it felt like private dining . I’m sure this might be a different experience when busy but was good for us. Our servers ( Harshita and Muhamed ) were very welcoming and friendly and helpful with any menu questions . We started with a isodori cocktail - blue curacao, coconut rum , coconut water . A theatrical cocktail with a bubble on top that when burst , releases smoke and the scent of coconut. The taste was as good as it looked . As we are both pescatarian, we were accommodated with a mixture of vegetarian and fish dishes from the two tasting menus : starter of mini popadum style crisps and various dips , a galette with plum sauce , baked halibut, crispy prawns , mango curry , rice and paratha bread . We finished with bibinca , a lovely laminated chocolate pancake tart . We also had a carafe of a cheekily named pinot noir called Fat Bastard! Lol So all in a Michelin starred meal for two with cocktails , wine and coffee for £145 -wonderful! Will definitely be returning soon!

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
