I could come back again and again and never get sick of this food. Each bite is packed with flavor yet never overwhelming. Drinks are solid too.
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal experience! Everything was absolutely delicious.
I would absolutely highlight the mushrooms, daikon fritters and pancake scallions - the latter being one of the best dishes I've tried in DC. The cuisine takes a nice twist on Cantonese cuisine with contemporary and other East Asian as well as European influences. Our server was great and gave us excellent recommendations. The Nebbiolo was good but the food recommendations were even better. The place feels cozy and warm. The only negative note is that the noise level is pretty high and is hard to speak and listen to your guests. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place!

I'm going to start off with, you will be tempted to order every item on the menu...and you absolutely should! I have now been back twice (becoming a staple of my DC trips) and it is worth it every time! When you walk in, you immediately feel like you are walking in for a home cooked meal. The staff treats you like friends and family and the restaurant is ornate yet casual and welcoming. Our waitress excitedly comes to welcome us every time and usually has something new for us to try (either wine or a recommendation on the menu) For food, we get the same thing every time - it looks like a lot but I promise it's the perfect amount of food for a group of 3-4:- mouthwatering hamachi- crispy pig ear- Chinese broccoli- scallion pancake- chicken + foie gras shumai - daikon fritters - drunken duck noodle (this is the crowd favorite along with the crispy pig ear)Can't say enough great things about this place!

Based on professional reviews, I was looking forward to this place. I even took visiting work colleagues with me for dinner. The place was packed (and loud), but our wait staff attentive. Sadly, the food ranged fro meh to inedible. We had everything on the menu except the whole Snapper, crispy pig ears and shrimp. The hamachi and pork jowl were good, the lobster w bone marrow and the mushrooms were weird, the octopus flatbread was slimy and the daikon fritters and duck noodles were inedible. There was more corn than noodles in the dish, and The pieces of "duck" were really just dried skin. The fritters were like old mashed potatoes with weird sauce on top. On the plus side, the cocktails and wine were good. Sooo - just go to drink???
Be the first to ReplyFood was amazing.
See every review above. I also think it's actually the service that pushes it over the top. Our waiter seemed more like he was the host. He made us feel so welcome and explained everything perfectly. The food was amazing and he made us feel like we were a guest in someone's kitchen. A+++ this is a real treat.

We came to Queen's English as a holiday present, and we enjoyed the food very much. For drinks, I had the champagne cocktail and my partner had the pear mocktail. Both refreshing and flavorful. We started with the crispy pig ear to try something new, and we were pleasantly surprised. The crispy pig ear paired with the watercress and vinaigrette was a balanced combination. For our second course, we had the broccoli which was covered in a delicious creamy sauce, scallion pancake which was unique with bonito flakes, and foie gras and chicken shumai which were so rich and decadent. For our final course, we had the drunken duck noodle and peppercorn beef cheeks. Both of these were a hit. I especially recommend the beef cheeks. So tender! We opted out of dessert because we were full. Highly recommend this place!Only critiques were it is small in the restaurant, so if you're seated against the wall you are kind of on top of the parties next to you.
Be the first to ReplyLovely spot with excellent service.
The abalone temporary special was divine. Just a perfect balance of sea saltiness, luscious salmon roe pearls and smokiness. The bone marrow was also exquisite and must be eaten with the accompanying veggies. The fried fish was also tasty and perfectly cooked. Beautiful white fish. I would pass on the desserts and the mushrooms though. Overall a wonderful dining experience. Would come back again.

I arrived at 6:30 pm in a Saturday solo and, without any reservation, bar and tables were packed. The hosts was sweet enough to placed myself in a table, I had an hour to eat, since that table was reserved for the next customers. The restaurant is nice and inviting, service was good, however you have to place an order only once, ( according to my server), I hade to order drinks, appetizer and main course at the same time, my entree came first than my appetizer. The way they make you order it isn't an ideal, the food was delicious, but away too pricey for what was served, menu is also too small, my server was pretty good I doubt that I would come back here

How do we give them zero stars? Well I will start with the food; the beef cheek was barely flavored; Daikon Fritters was gross, foie was laugh-like bad. What is most disturbing is the wine program - I met the owner and "sommelier." Not sure about the sommelier part. As a wine lover - I have mafe friends with several talented sommeliers in DC and New York; this is abysmal at Queens English. Please bring your wine - most wines by the glass are undrinkable and poorly chosen. I thought the food and wine would be better but this is a hollow shell of a restaurant. Go up the street to Makan for better flavors or better yet order Chinese to-go and buy a bottle of great wine from a local wine shop. There is a narrative around DC that needs to change - natural can be delicious but they need to understand classics first.
Be the first to ReplyI'll start with the fact that the service was great.
Wait staff was kind and professional. Outdoor seating is nice with the days warming. Indoor ambiance is warm but a tad tight.1 1/2 stars knocked off for price. Given what's being served it simply can't be justified. $200 for 2 ppl to eat and drink should be expected. 1 1/2 stars knocked off for the food. Quite simply -- it was pretty bland and uninspiring. Squab particularly disappointing and served strangely alone without any salad/side. Dumplings were most flavorful but have had better for a quarter price. Tartar is reminiscent of Russian salad flavors. Tofu silky but lacked flavor. Every dish was lacking spice and flavor.Would skip and save your $$.

Sat at the chef's table and had delicious food, good wine and excellent service. Every dish was delicious and the standout was the whole snapper. Here's what we ordered:Lobster egg custard (Valentine special)Daikon frittersCrispy whole red snapperNasturtium cressI definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent outdoor dining structure and food selection.
Even in 20 degree weather we were warm enough. Adorable lighting and love the blankets.
Be the first to ReplyChill yet elegant: Hong Kong fine dining and New York City
Chill yet elegant: Hong Kong fine dining and New York City spirit come together at Queen's English. An immaculate menu of flavorful and thoughtful dishes served in a intimate room evocative of an upscale tea parlor. Despite using luxury ingredients such as foie gras and saffron, nothing is excessive and every element is purposeful. The steak tartare has subtle flavors and textures to each bite with a thin, honeycomb-like plum cracker covering a delicate layer of saffron egg yolk and an oregano-based seasoning all on top of the tartar. The braised duck drumette is perfectly tender, moist, and falls apart with your fork. The daikon fritters (really more of a gooey pancake than fritters) meld shrimp and pork with umami flavors and a hoisin based sauce that was not at all overpowering (as hoisin often is). The foe gras shumai melds seamlessly with ground chicken (although this was my least favorite as I'm not a big fan of ground chicken). And the mushroom egg noodle was the best dish of all: with a tangy XO sauce, large delicate whole mushrooms, and a perfectly cooked house-made noodle - a dish to remember. Everything was balanced. The luxury ingredients used with restraint highlights quality in each bite. It's always great when you are impressed by each element of design in a restaurant - and that's exactly the case here. The walls have a beautiful silver wallpaper with pink roses that glow in dim lighting. The beautiful plates made the colors of the food pop. And the chique French lounge music set the vibe: chill yet elegant. Hands down one of the best restaurants in Washington, DC. Completely deserving of their Michelin Bib Gourmand, Chef Henji and wine-curator Sarah - the married owners - built this place with tangible passion. I can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyThis was an exquisite experience.
The Daikon Fritters, aged squab, oysters, and beef tongue & spicy jellyfish were all marvelous. Squab is an oily meat like duck, so be prepared but the flavor was superb. The lichee/red bean/toasted coconut panna cotta was a nice way to finish. Service was perfect.

It's located near Columbia Heights in DC, a 30 min drive (without traffic) from Northern Virginia if you live in the area. Made the reservation the same day and they held a refundable $25 per person deposit. Took a while to find street parking, which is standard in the city.We sat at the chef's counter. The place is cozy with some artsy Chinese decorations. Lights dim, it can be hard to talk with the music and large crowds. We ordered a Taiwan beer and several entrees. The service was superb. The dishes were delicious, our favorite dish was the egg noodles. The dessert did not disappoint either, the panna cotta tastes right with red bean and coconut mix.If you are coming for a reasonably priced meal that fills up your stomach, this is not the place. But if you are coming for a nice experience or celebrating for special occasions, this is definitely the place for it. The ambience with flavorful food choices will make the visit worthwhile.

Would recommend but read to set the right expectation before you go. Food: Price: It's a unique boutique restaurant focusing on Hong Kong inspired food. It sits between traditional cooking and upscale dining experience. BUT the price is at the upscale level. I would still recommend definitely go try it yourself before deciding if you will go again because it's cool to see how Asian American chefs make their own twist on flavors and materials that are part of their life experience and memory. Some serving staff were rushy. They would take your plates away without asking if you don't pay attention. I would appreciate if they give a short intro to dishes they serve, i.e. what's in the superior soup, because it tastes great and if customers understand what it takes to make the clear broth so delicious, the price tag might be justified. We are people who tend to ask servers about dishes but the restaurant has crowded, table-to-table seating arrangement, which makes interactions with servers difficult.

I rarely write reviews but QE goes so far above and beyond, I just had to tell the internet about it. The food is always fantastic and the menu is always updated for freshness and availability of ingredients. But the real standout is the service. They go to great lengths to ensure that you have an incredible experience every time. From cozy blankets for the patio to staff finding me a luxury cigarette once when I was craving, they go the extra mile and then some. I love this spot and I love how they make me feel when I'm there.

I had a really nice dinner at Queens English recently, but the key to enjoying it was having some Christmas money to spend on dinner. The price tag was a little painful! They got us on the uni toast. To be fair, this was probably the most delicious thing we ordered. It's not on the menu, it's off menu which seems like a clever way to hide the price. The server recommended 1 order per person, which meant that for a party of two we ended up unwittingly spending more than $50 on this three bite dish (they were a luxurious three bites, but still!). Other items that were delicious and more reasonably priced included the XO mushroom noodles and the daikon fritters (which were unexpectedly awesome). The silken tofu and shu mai were good, but not quite special.Great wine list.
Be the first to ReplyWhat distinguishes a place as one of my favorite
What distinguishes a place as one of my favorite restaurants vs a really good meal is when I think back on the experience often, and with joy. During the height of the pandemic, we were ordering takeout from a new spot once a week, and I just couldn't stop thinking about the meal we got from Queen's English. It took me almost a year to come back for dine in, but I can now confirm... Queens English is such a special place! It has the cozy, joyful energy of your best neighborhood spot and the food is creative and delicious! We ordered just about the entire menu for our party of 5! I've got a run down of everything below, for those who want it. I also really loved my hidden dragon cocktail (think negroni meets sazerac!).Beyond the food, everyone there is so delightful. It seems like they truly love the place and the community, and you can feel it. We'll definitely be back, I only wish this were in my neighborhood!-Jelly fish & beef tongue: How could I resist! Very spicy and definitely unique. A must for the most adventurous eater.- Rice roasts with uni and salmon roe (an off menu special) - favorite thing I ate all night!-Oyster: Fine, but would probably pass next time,-House made tofu: Yum. More like a soup (and a very delicious one!)-Mushroom egg noodles: Honestly, I liked their shrimp pin noodles better... but these were good! Note: You can order a vegetarian version.-Daikon fritters: Very yummy. Note: You can order a vegetarian version without the pork.-Duck drumlettes: Good, not a standout - go for the squab.-Foie gras dumplings: Not my thing (too all spicy for me) but others liked them-Nasturtiam cress, snow pea leaves - loved both of these, and having lots of greens to balance out the heavier dishes-Whole crispy fish: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FBomb.com&s=716853a54974befb18bd2a2079d876386c9ebd876290947c699fc1e3eaccf129" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Bomb.com</a> - some how they debone it, and still present it fully in tact. Unlike some of the dry crispy fishes I've had, this one is moist and incredibly well seasoned, served atop a bed of bok choy and with a side of rice. -Squab: We didn't order this, but they brought it (and charged us for it) - I wasn't mad, because it was one of the highlights of the meal for me. Very, very tasty.
