Poppy + Rose Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Saw all of the raving reviews and had to try it for
Saw all of the raving reviews and had to try it for ourselves. Met up with some family for breakfast and was able to find some seats after the line formed outside. Food was good. Some extra pops of flavor twists that you recognize but never thought to combine them for breakfast. It was tasty. I've never had flattened toast before and I enjoyed it with their berry jam. I think the thing that sets it apart was the flavor twists. You'll notice your head tilt and think, "I know this flavor." I would go back for a hash brown and they're kicked up ketchup. The ambient noise is pretty loud. We tried having a conversation and found ourselves yelling while trying to eat it was a little distracting so we just mainly ate and waited to have convos outside. Parking is a bit of a walk if you can't find street parking. So for those needing assistance you may want to drop them off at the front and then park. Overall great service, good coffee and good food. Can't go wrong.
This was my first visit to Poppy + Rose, overall pleased
This was my first visit to Poppy + Rose, overall pleased with the experience. Parking isn't the greatest as the structure is old, dark and not very clean but it is DTLA and they do partially validate, so it was only $5 for the stay. The location is ample enough and on a late morning Friday, the restaurant was full. Service was great overall, had no issues there. I would have technically scored this a four star review but some of the inconsistencies and slight misses on the food pushed it into a 3, good but not great. The fried chicken Benedict with the biscuit had good flavor coming from the chicken and hollandaise sauce but the chicken wasn't crispy and the biscuit was lackluster, would have preferred a normal piece of bread over it as it was stale. The poached eggs were done perfectly, that made the dish better for sure. The pulled pork hash suffered a bit because of an inconsistency on the potato bricks, one of as nicely crispy and the other one wasn't. Over easy eggs were slightly over cooked but still had some gooey yolks. The arugula was nice for presentation but I didn't care for it. Solid place, could have been better but nothing was bad about this experience.
Beautiful hidden gem within the Fashion District.
It's like a little getaway from all the busyness. A friend and I went to brunch and I ordered the Brassica Salad for us to share and The Vegetable Sandwich for myself. That salad was not only beautiful to look at, but beautiful in taste and so fresh and citrusy. I could order this every time I'm here. The Vegetable Sandwich originally comes with an herb yogurt spread, but it contains dairy, so I requested it without. Sandwich was fire! Super filling and the vegetables were cut perfectly so that they still retained their juice but seasoned with a herby-savory rub. And who doesn't love ciabatta bread?
Delicious food and great service! Will definitely be coming
Delicious food and great service! Will definitely be coming back next time we're in LA!
Wonderful server.
Really good steel-cut oats. Not a great place for food allergies due to size of the kitchen. I have an egg allergy and was not able to order anything else on the menu other than the oatmeal.
Upcharge, upcharge, upcharge! We walk in and we met a group
Upcharge, upcharge, upcharge! We walk in and we met a group while in the restaurant and they force a 20% gratuity because they thought we were a joint party. We had to wait 20 minutes to even get our water and their portions are ridiculous. They are extremely chintzy with the amount of meat they put in the burrito. The waitress also had the worst attitude and it was obvious she did not want to be there before we even sat down. I ordered a Benedict and they didn't have any Canadian bacon which is ridiculous and i had to settle for fried chicken. They also have all the breakfast items come with salads and it's an upcharge to sub for potatoes and their salad is unseasoned spinach with no dressing or anything added in. The only redeeming factor was the fact that they got the egg perfect for my Benedict. Other than that the chicken was flavorless and dry and the biscuit was stale. After we finished eating we had to wait ~20 minutes for our waitress to come back and give us our check because she was visibly gossiping with her coworkers.
First time here It was sorta like a hit & miss.
Eggs Benedict with fried chicken was good best part was the runny eggs and the chicken. The sauce tasted more like a nacho cheese wasn't quite a fan of it. The biscuits were dried and cold. The pulled pork was okay little too sweet for my liking. But hey... we all like different things. Service was great, a bit noisy. Just a fair warning try not to use the restrooms if you don't have too!!! Wait till you get home. Will I drive to DTLA for this spot I don't think I will. That's just my personal opinion.
Nice find! Unique and tasty.
Friendly server who made our first visit fun. Looking forward to the next time!
One of my foodie friends recommended I try out Poppy +
One of my foodie friends recommended I try out Poppy + Rose, so happened to be downtown and gave it a shot. Good choice. Easy to find. Was able to find metered parking right out front. Of course my arrival was around 2ish and normally due to the very busy florist market, close parking could be hard to find. Restaurant is casual and nicely appointed. Friendly hostess seated us. I opted for the kitchen sink bowl. Very tasty with nice portion of pulled pork. Good presentation. Staff was friendly and overall had a good visit.
I came by this place by accident.
I was in the area going to the flower district in LA. I felt hungry and decided to give this place a try. I went on a Saturday and it was a packed house. It only took about 30-40 minutes to be seated. We ordered the chicken and waffles, egg benedict, and steak and eggs. The food took about 25-30 minutes to come out, and this could be due to the restaurant serving a party of over 20 people. The food was good but not the best that I've had as far as chicken and waffles, egg benedict, and steak and eggs. The customer service was good, and you can tell that the staff members were working hard to get out orders and to accommodate all members in the restaurant. The server did not ask if we wanted refills; that is the reason for the 4 stars. I'll try this place in the future to see how things go.
Night next to the flower district, The food here is amazing.
I had the spicy chicken and waffle breakfast and omg I'll definitely come back for this. Being a dietitian, I'm obsessed with good food so trust me on this one. The strawberry limeade was very refreshing as well! We came on a Saturday around 12pm and waited about 30 minutes to be seated. It was busy so the place was pretty loud. It's also kinda small so the tables and seats are kinda crammed so if you were to go flower shopping, I'd recommend putting your blooms in the car before you come in here.
It's worth it!
I had my doubts. This place is right by the LA Flower Market and in Skid Row. Homeless and tents all over the place. The old Cecil Hotel is visible from the parking lot. HOWEVER, this place is worth it. This was simply some of the best, most delicious and authentic southern food I have had outside of the Deep South. The staff are polite, attentive and friendly. The restrooms are clean. There really is a reason this place comes up as one of the best restaurants in LA. I would not hesitate to venture to the other side of the tracks to enjoy a meal at Poppy & Rose again. If you go, the biscuits and gravy with a side of grits.....to die for! Enjoy!!
Good food - Loud atmosphere
Went with friends for lunch. Parking can be an issue but I was able to find street parking. My friends ordered salads and they said the salads were very good. I ordered chicken wings and a side green salad. My two wings were nine dollars. They were fried and seasoned well but not very crispy. The ambient noise was so loud that it was hard to hold a conversation.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
