4+ my cousin recommended this place to me for their fried chicken sandwiches. Also, they are the sister restaurant of my favorite place in DC: Rose's Luxury - so I was super excited to go get some food here. Disclaimer: I came here a few years ago right before I needed to leave town so I stopped by and got their to go service with coffee. At some point I would love to come back and try their full service sit down dinner, but for the purposes of my little review, it's strictly for the takeout.I thought the chicken sandwich was really really good. Everything also was neatly packaged and I'd like to use of gold foil. It gave it a fun little aesthetic look to it. Because I was excited about the food, I ordered the cream puff and the lemon thyme shortbread as well. I enjoyed everything I ate here. When I got there, there wasn't that much of a line so it was pretty quick grab and go. Definitely would recommend, if they still do this, to grab and go for breakfast.

AWESOME meal, wines, service and an overall experience that is second to none!A fun evening with none of the stuffy pretense you might expect from a 2 star Michelin restaurant. Each dish was perfection -- inventive and complex, beautifully presented with just the right amount of server attention. No hovering, not intrusive -- charming and engaging at every step. Great pacing -- we never felt rushed or overlooked. Lovely 'gifts' from the kitchen between the formal courses were a masterful touch. We felt pampered and special the whole night. A very special occasion that I'd highly recommend.

I can't begin to describe the decadence and luxury of pineapple & pearls. If you have a very special occasion or a very special someone or would just love the seize the day, make it happen at pineapple & pearls!

Having first been to their sister restaurant (Rose's Luxury) which was an out of this world experience and value, P&P was a major let down. Service seemed a little disorganized and "theatrical". Food taste was subpar as many of the dishes we had were not enjoyable or tasty. We had high expectations given the 2 Michelin stars, but I just feel that the experience didn't deliver. They may have been much better pre-Covid, but as you can see from the numerous bad reviews in recent months, they have lost their charm. Someone from our party even ended up getting food poisoning after the night. In summary, go to Rose's Luxury instead where you will spend 1/3rd the cost for food that is 3x better. Skip Pineapple & Pearls.....

Had an enjoyable experience at pineapple and pearls! Though I wouldn't say it was worth the money.

P&P has by far the best service I have experienced in DC and otherwise. I most recently visited with a group on Valentine's Day (when service expectations are low) with a group and they did not leave us wanting for a thing. When someone mentioned it was a bit chilly they promptly responded with pashminas for the table. When they didn't offer chocolate on the dessert menu, they ran next door to get us the best chocolate milkshakes we ever had. The menu here continues to be inventive and entertaining. Every dish came with a story and performance, even the drinks! When you book make sure to request Cosmo as your server. You won't be sorry. Well worth the price.

My boyfriend and I sat at the chef's counter last night and it did not disappoint! Reading the menu, we were a little unsure if we would like some of the dishes but decided to be adventurous and we are so glad we did! Every dish and wine pairing was perfection. We chose the more expensive wine pairing (can't remember the name but it was the second option). All of the wines were to die for and they were presented to us so elegantly and with so much knowledge. The rare South African wine was my favorite...I wish I could get my hands on a few bottles lol. I'm not a big sweets person but I LOVED the soft serve Dulce de leche ice cream and my boyfriend obsessed over all of the other desserts. From start to finish it was absolutely amazing. They even gave us these adorable boxes to-go, that came with a "treat" and the Polaroid pictures they had taken of us throughout the night. The "treat" was a huge and delicious cheeseburger that I had for lunch the next day. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyPretty disappointing for a michelin star restaurant.
The food was okay but it was more theater than good food, and you can find much better theater experiences elsewhere. You can get a better food experience at many non-michelin star restaurants for half the price. Open kitchen is nice and wine team saved the day.

I felt so lucky to be able to get a reservation at Pineapple and Pearls to celebrate my parents' anniversary. The space is beautifully decorated, and there are a small number of tables deeper in the restaurant past the bar area. Along with three courses, the kitchen brings out multiple small snacks for you to enjoy. The dinner was fun, inviting, and included small surprises like interesting flavored ice cream and a (delish) goodie bag after the dinner. I chose not to post too many photos to keep some of the mystery. Both the food and staff didn't take themselves too seriously, and the vibe of the place felt much different from other Michelin restaurants I've been to. I feel pretty conflicted writing this because although the service and experience was great/playful, the food wasn't on par. Many flavors did not come through as well as I thought they should've, and some flavors clashed pretty hard. I would say the soufflé and the campfire dessert were the most disappointing. Overall- taking into account experience, food, and value, I personally do not think Pineapple and Pearls is a place that will warrant a second trip.

Draw a Venn diagram with three circles and label them Adventure, Theatre and Food. Pineapple and Pearls is where they intersect. A dining experience unlike any we've ever encountered--in the best possible way. Everything that came to our table was a surprise and delight. The food was heavenly, delicious and beautiful--OMG the little purses served on crystal towers, the gnocchi with black truffles, the cheese ice cream! In between the courses we chose, so many dazzling little "gifts" The chef is brilliant and the bartender's a genius (the zero-proof cocktails were a revelation). And I've never been to a restaurant where I looked forward to the moments when the staff stopped by the table (thanks for taking such great care of us, Justin). I've been to Michelin star restaurants before, and the experience was almost solemn--like we were there to pay homage to the food and the chef. By contrast, P&P is warm, whimsical and welcoming. I can't wait to return.

Rose's Luxury is one of my favorite restaurants in DC so you know I had to try Pineapple & Pearls when I had the chance. To be frank, my overall experience was a bit of a let down. The overall taste didn't do it for me and did not meet my high expectations. The presentation and service were both extremely good, but the food wasn't the same caliber. Some of the dishes were really good, such as the fish with shaved beets, tempura courses, and black truffle grilled cheese. Others such as a pasta course and lamb chops, were not as great/memorable. If you are planning on spending this much money on a fancy dinner, I would recommend Minibar and Jont instead. Not saying this place is bad, but it's not as good as the other two I mentioned.
Be the first to ReplyP&P is fantastic.
The wine pairings specifically were very well done. Despite the price tag, the food and the experience was well worth it.

I honestly do not believe that this place even needs a yelp review. However, given my extreme satisfaction with my dining experience, I am more than happy to share. If you are looking for the absolute best dining experience from beginning to end in the mid Atlantic, you have to go here! From the moment you walk in the door, you are treated with kindness, courtesy, and hospitality. We had the chefs counter tasting experience and it was something from my wildest dreams. The chefs were so gracious and knowledgeable. We also received a print out of our menu from the night. I still have to frame that! I am so thankful to have had this experience. Lastly, I am a pescatarian, and they were able to accommodate me. My date was a bit jealous as I had lobster. MY FAVORITE FOOD. An overall EXQUISITE experience!!

Amazing Experience! Was a little skeptical of going due to the cost; however it was SO worth it. The service was incredible and the pace of the meal was perfect. We were greeted with champagne upon entry. I have a few food allergies and they confirmed everything at the front but we're able to create all the same dishes just with slight modifications. I never felt like I was getting a lesser or different experience given the allergies. Each course was more delicious than the next. We ended up closing the restaurant down late into the evening because we were just enjoying our time there so much. Can't wait to go back and celebrate a special occasion!

It was a flaming poop emoji of a night! We absolutely have to go back to make sure that it wasn't just a one-off. First - we were greeted with an offer to coat check and champagne. [The glass for the champagne was beautiful]. This is offered regardless if you decide to pair with alcohol or non-alcohol.We were luckily sat at the chef's counter and got to enjoy not only the food, but watching our food get prepared. Part of the experience at P&P was some of the tastings were partially prepared in front of you. Such as making the salad dressing for a three lettuce salad. The service we received was impeccable (not that we expected anything else). The staff were attentive but also receptive to conversation and educating us. Thereby making the experience even more amazing.

We sat at the bar and did the five course tasting menu with the luxury wine pairing. The food was amazing, everything was delicious and the presentation was perfect. Definitely would go back for the food, portion sizes were large and we actually left a tasting menu full! The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. However, we found it uncomfortable how they wanted to be "friends" and act like we were all part of some inside joke. It was weird. Other people seemed to enjoy this though, so I guess that's just a personal preference. Every time a dish was dropped there would be a weird "big reveal" when explaining the dish with a lot of hyperbole and dramatic pauses before giving the information. It's a restaurant, not a middle school presentation. It felt juvenile and forced. The luxury wine pairing was a huge disappointment. The wines were interesting as they were all small production, which is cool. But they weren't particularly good and also only 2 oz pours?!?! Only served one very lackluster red paired with the otherwise amazing steak. For $160 add on would think they'd do full pours or have higher end wines. I would be curious to see if the dining room experience is better as the food really was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyThe best restaurant in DC, and worth every penny.
The cuisine is matched only by the service. A phenomenal experience. For your first visit, try the chef's counter where you see the magic happen directly in front of you.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome food, even better experience.
We sat at the bar which is a lower cost menu, a la carte drinks, and outside of the dining room. Will was our bartender but really seemed a navigator of the entire evening. Tip: the bar is how you can diner here with a larger group (and less expensive menu). With a group of 7, this was a perfect set up for us. We reserved all the seats and by the end of the night Will felt like part of our party. There is a five course menu with the option to add specials, if available. Although the motto of the entire restaurant is "Fancy, not formal", this bar experience felt like the epitome of the phrase. It is slightly less formal than the dining room. Everything was efficient, clear, smooth - exactly what you'd expect from a two-star Michelin restaurant. The difference was the down-to-earth way they did it all. As an added bonus, your patronage gets to support their People Program! It encompasses employee benefits and workplace initiatives like health and dental insurance, parental leave, and gym memberships. Cool. See pictures for our menu.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful dining experience.
Excellent friendly and fun service at the bar. Perfect for a couples night out
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good and I am glad I went once.
Ultimately though it was a pretty meh experience. I did not come away with any memories of food that stood out. Service was fine, but not stellar. This is a solid four, but one of my less favorite Michelin star experiences.
