4+ an Indian "sports bar" located in Silver Lake in a strip mall with a Comfort Inn. The food has a heavy Indian influence on sports bar classics like onion rings, wings, and pizza. The vibe was lively and the food was really delicious. There are some fun cocktails on the menu using Indian spirits as well. I'll explain my use of quotes around sports bar below, but wanna talk about the delicious food first.Just a quick note though. The reservations are pretty tough to get right now. Some friends and I decided to try to come here right at opening to get a walk in table to grab dinner before watching a movie. There was a line of about 15 to 20 people without a reservation when I got there 10 minutes before opening. We were able to get seated as long as we were to leave before they needed the table for a reservation. What we ordered:-Dosa onion rings - this had a fantastic crunch and flavor. The chutney was a great dip. I like onion rings and that was a great take.-Yellow wings (with yogurt dip) - I think these wings are baked. These were delicious and juicy with a great marinade and horseradish on top. It reminded me of tandoori chicken. -Green tikka pijja - one of the preset combinations that they have suggested on the menu. I also thought this was delicious. The flavors are great. My only note would be the crust. It was nice and crispy and yummy, but I just felt something was kind of lacking. -Malai rigatoni - probably my favorite dish of the night. I could come back and order just this or even order it for takeout. It reminded me of tikka masala or a makhani sauce. Tomato based but rich, creamy and delicious. The pasta was perfectly cooked as well with a great al denti bite to it.-Cookies and cardamom soft serve -cocktails: daiquiri and Annapurna - I thought these were well done. I used quotes around sports bar because the first time I tried coming here, I thought it would be a great place to watch football games while eating this delicious food I've been hearing about. I then found out this place doesn't open till 5 o'clock. So definitely not a place where you can watch football games during the football season, which I feel like it's pretty standard for any sports bar. Not a big deal because I definitely don't think people are coming here to watch three hour sports games, especially with the hype and demand this place is facing right now. Or if they are, I would consider that bad form only because you are taking up spots for a place that seems to need people to move through pretty efficiently. Also, it's March madness and there was a Golden State Warriors game playing right next to my head. Which I don't mind because I do like the Warriors, but you would think that if it's a sports bar, March madness would definitely be all over the place. It's like that one hipster guy with a scarf and long overcoat that shows up to a Super Bowl party and refers to the game as "sports ball" did the programming. I mean, it is in Silverlake, so it's probably considered a sports bar to a lot of the folks who don't really watch sports. Again, not a big deal because I'm definitely not wanting to eat their delicious food to watch sports here. Maybe when the hype dies down a little bit or it's easier to get a reservation but right now it's probably not a good time to sit there and watch games. I will say that it is a nice touch however, to at least be able to watch some sports in the background. Just not as the focus.Parking: I parked a few blocks away and walked up, no problem at all. But just know that it might be a little tough to find parking because it is a tiny lot and it's a busy street. Most of the folks here were super nice. I would say the service is solid. One thing I would note though: so I love whiskey. When I go to restaurants and see certain whiskeys on the shelf, I feel like I have a good knowledge to know if they're on a certain level or not. There was a Weller on the shelf and I wanted to ask the price. I also asked the price for a couple of other relatively rare whiskeys. By then it was pretty evident that the place charges a little bit more than I'd like to spend for those type of whiskeys. The server then told me that makers mark is $12. While I appreciate them giving me the prices and maybe anticipating that I was just looking for the cheapest option, I feel like an easy solution here would just be a QR menu, or at least a small whiskey list, which I asked for. Unfortunately, didn't have it. I can certainly sympathize with the server having to repeat all those prices over and over again but if you are going to have a certain level quality on the shelves available, most places have a whiskey list.I definitely would come back to try some other stuff on the menu. I think that there is a certain excitement and creativity when it comes to the food here. It's got a fun vibe too. But I would suggest trying to get the reservation or just showing up right at opening.
