Food was good but waiter was very pushy once he saw we were American tourists. He recommended very expensive fish dishes from raw bar and also recommended too much food for us. Shame on us for not pushing back but he was very good at up-selling dishes. So while food and wine and good, waiter ruined experience by taking advantage of us.
Be the first to ReplyFood was overly priced but decent.
They push you to order by the pound and off menu. At the end of the dinner, they asked if we want to pay tip in cash or card, which seemed rude. Touristy restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWe happened upon this exquisite place by chance.
This is fine dining. The food, service and atmosphere is some of the best in Rome.

This place is absolutely criminal: Terrible service and tried to sneak running up the bill on us. Gave us bread and then charged us $10 for the break - when asked about it they called it a Covid charge.... in 2023 Also ordered $20 pasta with with lobster that ended up being charged as $76 bc they later told us their was double lobster in it. Would absolutely not recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyTourist trap, avoid.
Two of us shared five courses. Some were alright others were bad. Charged 10 euro per course to split. No up-charge listed on menu or mentioned by waiter. Served bread but we did not have any still charged 10 euro. 60 euro above expected price for average food. Was a great night and on a quiet street but table next to us was smoking.

I very very rarely leave a review but I have been in Europe for 8 plus weeks and I have to admit this was the first restaurant that I had bad service at. Might of been the fact that I was solo but still this was the first in probably 100 plus restaurants that the service was sub par. On the plus side the food and drinks were good.

My husbands picked out a fish then they cooked it and brought it to him opened it up and nothing no flavor, salt pepper, nothing on the fish, he ate it though as we had waited 2.5 hours. They brought me clam pasta after I spoke to them a while and pointed out my allergies on their form instead of the lamb I ordered so it had to go back. I would have ate it, but it was a bit of a walk to the hotel so I thought it would be good to walk while alive. We were so tired at that point after waiting another half hour for the lamb we paid (a lot ) and left. 3 hours and no dinner... I'm hoping we just had bad luck because I heard such good things from so many people we were super excited to dine here. Thought they would have given me a glass or wine or something on hour 2.5 with no food... but nada...

We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and they never disappoint! This time around we brought parents along and the teaM was a pleasure to deal with - accommodating, polished, knowledgeable about the menu and an excellent sommelier. The meal was exquisite, paced properly, served expertly. The dishes ran the gamut: spaghetti with Maine lobster, Sole meunière (to die for!), French oysters, and refreshing desserts that complement the main dishes to end the meal triumphantly! Pierluigi is Rome at its best; sophisticated but not starched-up, sexy but not cheap and quiet in the knowledge that it is one of the very best!
Be the first to ReplyFried calamari to start, which was good.
The bread was so-so. A nice wine list that includes a few very good half-bottles. Service was friendly and attentive. I started with oysters, which tasted fresh but the shucking was not great. For 6 euros a piece it seems fair to expect them to be completely separated from both shells yet not scrambled and with no shell chips inside. The blueberry, pomegranate, and chestnut salad was excellent: fresh and an interesting combination of flavors. For the main course, I ordered the turbot filet with clams, artichokes, and marjoram sauce. It was marvelous. The fillet was perfect. I'm not sure everything quite matched the price point, but rounded up to 5 stars from 4.5.
Be the first to ReplyHmmmmmm.
.. not sure I understand the hype here.I'll start by saying we dined at MANY places in Rome, including a fantastic experience at the city's only 3-Michelin star restaurant, and we loved every one... except this one.The ambiance was nice, and the staff was friendly in an icy sort of way... it was really the only time in our 5 days in Rome that we felt it. Nonetheless, I chose it for the FOOD, which was hit and miss. Hit: their beef sirloin Carpaccio is absolutely the very best I've ever had. Silky, marvelous texture, and a wonderful flavor. But everything else that we had was "just ok." We shared the octopus app as well as salad. For entrees, my niece had a pasta dish with a creamy artichoke sauce, and I had the fried seafood. My meal was very under seasoned, and the shrimp was strange... still in the shell (which seemed odd since it was deep fried, so, after peeling those tiny things, the outer coating was removed, so what's the point?)We were too full to finish the meal and had our leftovers packed up to-go, but when we asked if we could order a slice of cake for dessert to-go, they said, "no we can't do that." Interesting.I'm glad we tried it, but I doubt I'll ever return.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is middling at best and vastly overpriced.
The real issue I have is that at the end off the meal, after our bill charge was through, the waiter advised "oh, service is not included." Although we knew from many past visits to Italy that tipping is not required or even customary and service or bread charges need be listed on the menu, we had no cell service to check the menu (COVID so no paper menu). We left $40 (it was a shocking $450 bill for a basic meal for 4, only 2 appetizers and one dessert). Of course, when I checked menu back at the hotel there was no service charge listed. Oh well, we "got got" because we were too jet lagged to fight it. But definitely left a bad taste and would never return.
Be the first to ReplySo I went for the first and the last time.
We went for my wife's birthday. The service was excellent -- it should have been as we were the only customers. The food was tasty as well. I asked about a dish because it was translated as a "soup," but it was under the "pasta" items so I thought their translated menu might have been wrong. The waiter said it was just a thicker sauce -- it was a soup, served with a spoon and it was €25! For soup. I was clearly still hungry and ordered a Roman staple, Cacio Pepe. It wasn't on the menu, but every place makes it. My wife ordered something suggested by the server which was a pasta in a cream sauce with fresh-grated truffle. The dish came out kind of small, but tasty. When we got the bill, I was horrified! Mine simple cacio pepe....€25! Her dish....€60!!! WTAF. Screw job. I still left a tip because that's how I am. But I will never go there again, and as I'm here for the next three years, will discourage anyone from giving them business. Rip off.

If money is no object, this restaurant is a destination a serious seafood lover will not want to miss. They require a credit card just to make reservations. And if you miss your time slot, they will charge you 50 Euros per person for inconveniencing them. If you are not dressed appropriately on a Thursday, Fri or Sat, don't go in. You will feel out of place. And by "appropriately" I mean nice suit and tie / nice dress. This place is the quintessence of elegance. The word "snooty" May apply, but our wait staff was pleasant, so I'll leave it as "elegant." Fresh bread, olive oil and vinaigrette, delicious! Soups, magnificent. Desserts are good, coffee is good, but the seafood is great. Outdoor seating is available all year round if the weather is nice, and it is just as elegant outdoors as it is indoors. The wait staff are dressed in tuxedos. As you would expect, they know how to approach the table, properly pour wine, and serve each course. The food is excellent. Don't be drawn in by what the wait staff recommend; you'll do better picking what you think you want. I honestly don't know if the staff is trying to get rid of slow moving inventory with their recommendations, but order what looks good to you. They don't over-spice their food. They don't over cook their seafood. They know what they are doing. This is Pierluigi, one of the finest seafood restaurants in the world, and they more or less live up to their international reputation. The wine list is impressive. No house wines in pitchers here. Full bar. If you have a large appetite, know that they charge by the gram for their delicacies. Everything is a-la-carte. Dinner for 2 with a decent wine will run you north of €700, and for that price, I expected just a little more.

..best outdoor seating, fresh fish, amazing service and excellente wine list.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the perfect example of when a restaurant can be
This is the perfect example of when a restaurant can be nice without being good. For a "premiere fish restaurant," we found our fish tartare and ceviche severely lacking flavor and complexity. Both were flat dishes that lacked salt and acidity. Being American, our waiter certainly took advantage of us. My first tip off should have been when he kept steering us away from dishes we wanted to order. "Oh, don't get that, I make something special for you instead." He steered us away from the octopus and several other dishes to make "special" dishes for us. My "special" pasta was a prawn pasta which sounded delicious but was made with scampi instead, and the "special" side vegetable was unseasoned boiled spinach for 12 euros. We were in such a rush to leave after a disappointing dinner that my husband accidently left too much cash on the bill. Our waiter, in a moment of honesty (?guilt) ran us down with the "exact change" (minus 10 euros). We were relieved to put this experience behind us and went to grab some excellent gelato close by to forget the pretentious service and uninspired food experience.

Best food in Rome !!!!!! You gotta try the calamarata !!!! Best plate I've ever eaten in my life
Be the first to ReplyFirst off, we are so grateful for the service here.
We came here for a nice dinner but since we are staying in a villa about 2 hrs outside of Rome we realized our train times were messed up and had to leave right before our main courses. We were so emberresed as everything from our sommelier to our waiter had been 5 stars- absolutely wonderful. We had the Zuchinni Flowers and Prawns. I ordered the Tuna which was OMG so flavorful! (Eating it now as I'm home) My father's sea bass was so flakey and buttery. Their wine llist is extensive so def ask the sommelier for recs - i promise you wont be disappointed. When we told them we had to leave and asked if we could take our food to go, they immediately refused to let us pay for our meal and packaged everything including our wine and food. In no way was this deserved at all. We explained that this was all just a perfect example of us being dumn americans but they refused to let us pay. We will come back and order so much more food and wine just because the food is amongst the best in Rome. We're so grateful for everything, and can't apologize enough for having to run out to catch that last train out of Rome.
