Excellent dim sum!
I loved our dim sum experience here. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the portion sizes were larger than expected! I especially loved their potstickers, and the curried baby octopus was wonderful. The stir fried rice with (I think) roast pork was wonderful. Service was friendly and courteous. I'd definitely return!
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Dim Sum, and great value!
It has been over 20 years since I last visited the restaurant, but I was very happy to learn that the Dim Sum here is just as good as then. I have been to great Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, the Bay Area and Vancouver (BC). The quality of Pheonix Restaurant's Dim Sum can compete with all of them. In fact, my most recent experience with Dim Sum was at a large Dim Sum restaurant in Vancouver (BC) that supposedly served authentic Cantonese food, but the flavors there disappointed me. During our most recent visit to Pheonix Restaurant, the four of us ordered 11 items and had more than enough to eat, and the cost was only a little over $90. I consider this to be a great value.

I was so disappointed in my dining experience at the Phoenix. I had been there many times over the years. It was one of my favorite restaurants. It had survived the COVID shutdown. I have no idea what they did during the shutdown. When we arrived, we were escorted to our table. Along the way we could not help noticing the dirty, spotted chair covers, the faded, dirty carpet and the filthy bathroom. The bathroom was a mess, no soap, no towels or air dryer. Our reservation was for 5:30 p.m. There is no excuse for any of the mess we encountered. There were 3 of us at the table. Two of the dinners were as ordered and delicious. My dinner was a pork selection. It was dry, tough, and almost inedible. I did not return it. By this time, I just let things go. It's a shame that this once wonderful restaurant has allowed their standards to drop to this level.

I searched for authentic Chinese restaurants in Chicago and this gem popped up. We went on a Monday for lunch and the place was busy! We were greeted promptly, had a 10 minute wait for a table. Our waiter at first didn't explain how to order, you check off the dim sum you would like on the menu. Food was brought out quickly and boy, was it good! Make sure and get the dessert dim sum, we had green tea mochi and custard dim sum! Staff was busy so they weren't especially friendly.
Be the first to ReplyBig portions for dim sum
The food is good, but the restaurant could be spruced up. Walking to the bathrooms, it looks like the place is very messy. The food fortunately was good. Do no order too much, as the portions are big. We ended up taking a lot home! The place was packed, so either go there early or be prepared to wait.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre Dim Sum
Dim Sum were just okay! I was expecting the dim sum to be superb being located in Chicago Chinatown. The dim sum were blend and lack of finesse. I hope the operator pay more attention to the ambiance details I.e. bathrooms, storage of stuffs around bathrooms. The clutters were a bit of turn off.

Had a fabulous dim sum meal with a group of friends here which allowed us to order a wide array of food choices. Some of the best dim sum I've ever had and will return again when I am back in Chicago!

Depending on when you go oh, there may be a bit of a wait. But you quickly understand why there's a massive lazy Susan on the table.
This place does not mess around with the quality or quantity. It's also an excellent option for The Adventurous taste bud.
Whether a vegetarian or an omnivore, there's something for everyone. Service what is first-rate, rivaled by the quality of the food.
Bring your appetite and cultural appreciation. And enjoy.
Not worth the wait
Good food, but not worth the two hour wait to be seated and 30 minutes to order. We were told 25 minutes when we arrived, so 2.5 hours was not fun. Restaurant was also extremely hot, so very grumpy by the time we were seated. Some dishes did start coming out quickly after ordering, but couldn't easily get water refills and after another hour we gave up on the last three dishes and left. We will try somewhere else next time.
Be the first to ReplyDim Sum — A Tasty Sampling of Chinese Foods
Dim sum is always a high spot eating experience. Lately the selections have expanded and are wonderful additions to the traditional offerings. I love to go with a group of people and order a wide variety of dishes to sample. Time to go again.....
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, atrocius service
The food is amazing, great quailty and flavour .But unfortunately the service is not good at all. Slow, quite rude and very distant and forgetful. We had a bad experience. I rescue the spectacular food.
Be the first to ReplyChristmas lunch
We ordered the orange beef, sweet and sour chicken, General tso’s chicken and Mongolian beef. Everything was tasty. They were extreme busy being Christmas Day and our wait was about an hour. Make sure you give yourself time to enjoy the meal. Service is slow but we noticed that the Asians enjoy the company of the family while enjoying the food at a slow pace. Dim Sum was very popular during this time but not something we were interested in. We enjoyed our meal.
Be the first to Reply1st time in Chicago Chinatown
We arrived in Chicago that day and my brother suggested going to China town for authentic Chinese. It's very close to the train station. Staff were friendly. Food was awesome, but the duck was a little too greasy for me. Reminded me of Chinatown in Liverpool,England.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent and Authentic Chinese Food
Visited this restaurant while on Conference. The food and service at this restaurant is exceptional. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of authenticity of Chinese food here. Originally from NYC, I have traveled to areas of Hong Kong, London, Paris, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Richmond, Raleigh-Durham, Philadelphia, and Boston and often visit the Chinatowns there. The food here is comparable and in some cases better than these other places. The portions are well sized and excellently priced.
Be the first to ReplyDO NOT GO HERE - it's disgusting
We were a party of 5 for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. One part of the restaurant was semi-full ... all locals. It was our first time as we are from Texas. We were sitted within 5 minutes but waited 20 minutes before a server came over. Not a hello, how are you, nothing welcoming!!! As a matter of fact, we couldn't get one employee to smile. We were probably there for 1 1/2 hrs and not once did the server come over to see if we needed anything. That's why she got the offensive tip. The venue is so very dirty outside as it is inside. The windows looked like they've NEVER been cleaned. The women's restroom had two stalls (one was disgusting). If you're a germaphobic..do not come here. Food was good but couldn't stop thinking whether kitchen area passed health inspection. YUK! We picked this place because of Yelp reviews. Even tho it looked unkempt from the outside we thought the upstairs dining area would be different but it wasn't. Left this place thinking this is CHINATOWN??? Sad, so very sad.

We always enjoy the food at Phoenix. Prices are slightly higher but the quality and taste are better. The meal always include the house soup and sweet dessert soup. The staff is always friendly and attentive.
