Phở Kietzke Reno Reviews from The Last Year
Tried Pho Kietzke out.
I got the chicken fried rice, door dash. $15. Wish I would have went to another place. The fried rice lacked any flavor, really had to put soy sauce and siracha. The quantity for the price point is small, I got the container and felt it was a little light. As you can see in the picture. Wasn't even filled up. Overall, not a good experience and can't recommend this place.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would, but
If I could give this place zero stars, I would, but unfortunately Yelp does not offer that option. It's a sad day when Asians discriminate against Asians, but it happens, and more often than non-Asians might think. When I went to Pho Kietzke to pick up an order I placed through DoorDash, I was given the third degree and treated like a criminal. I don't dress like a gangbanger, and I don't walk around like a thug -- I look like an average, middle class Asian. Even though I told them my name and what I ordered, they insisted that I go back to my car and get my phone and show them the DoorDash confirmation. How would a thief know the name on and exact items in an order they did not place? So I went back to my car, got my phone, and showed the the actual DoorDash e-mail confirmation. They shook their head and said, "No." REALLY??? I scrolled through the whole confirmation, showed them my name, time and date, and the order. They still insisted it wasn't enough proof. The old crone who was the ringleader told me it wasn't enough because she insisted my name was showing on the confirmation. The title literally said "Thank you for your order {my name}" in huge block letters. I read it out slowly to her, and pointed my finger right at my name multiple times. For some crazy reason, her face became angry when faced with the irrefutable evidence that the order was indeed mine, and that their assumption I wasn't a thief was wrong. She extremely reluctantly handed my order over. Never, in my entire life, have I ever been treated anywhere near this badly by any business, regardless of color. As I walked out to my car, a white woman walked in to pick up her order. To see if the Pho Kietzke gang treated her the same way, I watched from my car. They gave her no hassle, immediately handed her order to her, and she breezed in and out. Shame on you. Quit your business and educate yourselves. Being Asian myself with parents who immigrated to the U.S. and worked hard to became naturalized citizens, I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's people like you who make life harder for honest Asians who earned their citizenship. You are part of the reason why racism exists -- your disgusting, two-faced behavior increases hate of Asians and validates what racists think about us.
Our go to spot for take out Vietnamese.
They have the best BBQ pork. You can taste the char a bit which I love.

first time here and there are lots of parking ordered to go lemon grass chicken rice and a pork sandwich or banh mi took about 15-20 minutes and I had to get up to follow up on my order, nobody came to me to inform me that my order was ready the banh mi was disappointing for about $9 because there were no or barely any veggies and it was drenched in hoison sauce and mayonnaise. definitely sad and don't recommend the lemon grass chicken rice was dry, and the carrots didn't taste right as it was old and not fresh. I didn't bother touching that. the chicken was dry and a bit hard. I wouldn't recommend both of these, but do try the pho. the value for the price was not there for those two items. possibly try the pho next time

This spot is super close to our house! It was a last minute decision at 8. The service was super fast and the pho was okay. We have been trying new pho spots as I LOVE pho. I got the vegetarian pho with tofu and it was pretty good. Nothing too special but it hit the spot! My husband got the steak pho and he thought the same thing- nothing special but we would go back. The restaurant is a little bit of a slum. The restaurant was heated with space heaters. The bathroom was pretty dirty. The food is super reasonably priced and the location is great! If you want a quick bite, this is your place.

Horrible service, we waited for an extra bowl and soup was already almost cold when they provide the extra bowl. Soup was very very bland, no taste. Food is not fresh. The spring roll was not fresh you can see the lettuce and bean sprout is already browning. The vegetable they provide for the pho is also not fresh. I would never come back to this place. It's horrible. You are better off with instant noodles. Terrible place.
This is a great spot for your pho cravings in Reno.
I've been here twice, once for the last two visits to Reno. All the food is flavorful and comes out quickly. Not to mention that the portion sizes are more than generous. On this outing, my partner got the tofu Banh mi and I got the shrimp spring rolls. The Banh Mi was huge! Maybe enough to share, which we did. But if you're hungry, get it! The spring rolls came with a nice peanut sauce. As usual the place was busy and buzzing. It's a small unassuming place that will fill your stomachs and hearts on a cold Reno day.
Let's preface this review by saying that I'd been to this
Let's preface this review by saying that I'd been to this place a couple of times before a while back. I returned because someone implored me to give it another shot because they thought it was great. I'm always willing to give an establishment another chance to show me that they've improved. Sadly, that was not the case for this visit. This review is ONLY for their Pho. I haven't tried any of their other offerings which seem to have very varied reviews. I might be tempted to go in to try their other items, but in light of what I experienced, I kind of doubt that I will. A few years ago, I went on a "hunt" for Pho around this area which would satisfy my taste profile and for the quality of product that I expect, being a HUGE fan of this type of food and having eaten it in many different places around the area, as well as all around North America. At the time, I literally tried every Pho joint around and finally found what I was looking for...which wasn't here. Unfortunately, the place that was my Pho go-to changed ownership this last year and I'm not overly enamored of the changes that the new ownership implemented. I don't like it as much as the original owner's offerings. So, I'm on the "hunt" again for my new favorite Pho, which will involve revisiting every place around the area! Went in during lunch. Small place, probably seats around 20 or so people...there were over a dozen people there when I went by. That's always an encouraging sign...a busy place means that it's popular and that usually means something's being done right. They were about to prove me wrong. The waitress motioned for me to sit down at a 2 top and handed me a menu...never said a word. She brought me water and she uttered the only words she would say to me, "what do you want?". I ordered the #9 Combination Pho ($13.95) [Rare Beef, Well Done Flank, Brisket, Tendon, Tripe & Meatballs] This is a "benchmark" Pho for me which I usually order every time. She brought it out about 5 minutes of so later, dropped it off and disappeared...all without saying another word to me. It felt like she couldn't care less that I was there! Plus, she NEVER came back to check on me OR to bring my check...when I finished, I had to go to the cash register where I paid. Where do I start? On the plus side, it was an ample portion, as was the side accoutrements that accompany most any Pho (Basil/Cilantro/Limes/Jalapeno/Bean Sprouts). All the standard sauces were on the table...Hoisin, Sri Racha, Chile Sauce and Chile Oil. The cons? Oh, so many... Before adding the sauces or accoutrements any time I have Pho in a new place, I always taste the broth as they serve it. Meh...bland...very lacking in seasoning, no depth of flavor. Even after adding everything, it still was lacking. The noodles, which I always dive in for first, were all clumpy...bad sign. Not very much protein...basic amount of beef, flank and brisket...all the meats were chewy and flavorless. The meatballs were a decent size, but bland...and there was absolutely NO tripe or tendon at all. All in all, a very unsatisfying experience that I doubt I'll repeat. My 3rd time in...3 strikes and you're out in my book. A LOT of the reviews tell of very inconsistent service and food...if that's the case, don't let MY opinion sway you...go see for yourself...maybe you'll have better luck than I did!
The food was ok but not great portions for the price.
The workers there were so rude and overcharged us for extra noodles when no one ordered extra noodles. They kept insisting we did when we really did not. If I'm saying the portions were small and if that was with extra noodles, I am blown away. The younger girl pretty much slammed the bowl down, looked at us as if we are stupid. What a bad experience for us. We go to so many different pho restaurants and have loved them, we will never go back here again. If you are going to charge extra for things we never ordered, then I guess that will also be your tip.
Rating this restaurant a 3 hurts.
This was my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in town for years and I haven't been for a while and a lot has changed for the worse. They took my 2 go to orders off the menu, fried eggplant and what used to be #37 which was a noodle dish that was in the soup's category but had broth on the side. It had amazing flavors with the sauce and shallots. Both are gone. I tried to stay positive but it seems several of the dishes that made them unique to Reno are gone. The Ban Mi was dry which was not the case in previous visits and the service was minimal. I'm so bummed on their menu changes and can longer say it stands out against the many Vietnamese restaurants in Reno. I'm on the hunt for a new favorite.
