service was sub par.
Two couples had dinner. There was remarkable inflexibility with the menu, ie can I swap a for b. Flat 'no'. The waiter would attend wirth all kinds of flourishes, then disappear. In one case he went off to get a bottle of wine, he didn't come back for 15 min. Our friends has finished their meals before ours came, I had to get up and ask where out food was. Food was acceptable, but the whole experience was unsatisfactory. We spent well over $200 for one appetizer, two mains one desert, one glass of wine and one beer. At those price you shouldn't have to feel embarrassed or apologetic with your guests,

I absolutely loved the food, atmosphere and service. High quality and value for money. I am a well travelled and not easily satisfied customer. I love quality not quantity. If you want to have real food experience with class at a very reasonable price this is the place.
Be the first to ReplyLovely evening!
We had reserved an outdoor table to bring our little dog, but it was stormy so the restaurant called to ask if we could move indoors. We appreciated their thoughtfulness and were glad they had space indoors for us. The room is a charming bistro-style and the bar is beautiful. People were dressed for special occasions - button downs on men and women in dresses. Service is very friendly and professional. We enjoyed two cocktails, which were well-balanced, and a bottle of sancerre wine. The wine list is large with numerous excellent choices. The charcuterie platter is amazing. Everything was delicious - boudin blanc, fresh mustard, 3 cured meats, creamy, creamy pate and terrine and the celery remoulade was the perfect flavor and texture to complement the richness of the meats. We shared the frisee lyonnaise, which was perfectly dressed and seasoned. The coq a vin was outstanding - a rich, flavorful chicken and sauce on a generous serving of creamy mashed potatoes. The branzino was excellent, well cooked with a delicious sauce. The steak frites was good - perfectly cooked and seasoned - the frites are AMAZING. Tender, crispy and salty! Desserts are generous portions. The creme brûlée tasted good, but was less firm then I prefer. The apple tarte satin was perfection. A large portion, super apple flavor, perfectly gooey. We had a lovely celebratory dinner.

My wife and I dined at Perle on Friday night. Our first time, so we both ordered the Four Course menu. Overall, I would have to say, we were not impressed. The meal itself was okay, but nothing special. The service felt rushed and impersonal. Quite a surprise after ordering an $80 menu item that they charge you extra for bread, really?

Disappointing!
We had heard such good things about this restaurant and had very high expectations. Although the ambience was pleasant, the menu was extremely limited. The charcuterie board was unimpressive as was the Coq au Vin which was dry. That being said, the bread was outstanding. But not a reason to return. I provided pictures of our two entrées.
A bit of France in Covid times
I usually spend three weeks in France each year, due to Covid-19 have not been able to go. When my friend suggested this place I was all in. It is not cheap, but worth the price. We splurged on a bottle of Champagne, from a small house, but I knew the Village. The Prix fix menu is a good value at 55.00. I got the Racklet starter, the steak and dessert. My friend got a different dessert and we shared and got to taste both. I had enough steak left over to take home. The servers seem to be professionally trained. We loved the food, the bread and butter is 5.00 and totally worth it. Dog friendly although I left her at home for this first time. Can't wait to go back.

Lovely decor and ambience, and the food was very good. But my complaint is about the wine service. We ordered a bottle of wine, and the sommelier opened the bottle away from our table, tasted it, and then brought it to our table. Worldwide standard practice is for the sommelier to bring the unopened bottle to the table for you to check the label, just to confirm that it is what you ordered. Next, he or she will remove the foil and pocket it. Then, they will remove the cork, sometimes placing on a cork tray or folded napkin. The next step is to pour a small amount into the glass of whoever ordered the wine. The purpose is for you to smell the wine in case there is a musty smell, indicating that the bottle is corked. At this point, you can ask the sommelier to smell and taste and confirm whether the wine is indeed corked, and if it is, they will replace it. There is no need for the sommelier to take a healthy swig out of the bottle you are paying for before even bringing it to the table. I read that this practice used to be fairly common in the USA pre-WWII, but hey, it’s 2021, and I’d like to taste the wine I order myself. I would otherwise have rated this restaurant 4/5.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a delicious meal
My family and I all love eating at Perle. We have been by several times for both dine-in and takeout, and the food has been excellent each time. I have a five year old, but he will eat anything we order. His favorite is the duck breast and apple Tatin. My go-to is the Lyonnaise, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

My family of 4 have ordered takeout several times from Perle for dinner. Our usual items are: coq Au vin, sole meunière, sea bass, steak frites and of course their famous apple tarte Tatin! Everything is EXCELLENT. Everything is prepared in such a way that you only need some minor reheating. The dishes are clearly labeled. You can taste the quality of the ingredients in each dish, especially the fish , so FRESH and melt-in-your-mouth tasty!
You cannot leave Perle without ordering their famous APPLE TARTE TATIN! It is to die for! The perfect amount of sweetness, but not too sweet and the crispy, buttery pastry with the apples really comes together nicely! We always end our meal with this amazing dessert.
Service not befitting the food
If it were not for the manager/host calling and being brusque about what to expect (no guarantee of a heater, being on time, etc) and saying it in such a demanding tone I should have known better. That a friend of Dean and Pauline had raved about the food, I took my date out and we left West Hollywood for Pasadena on that recommendation. What awaited was a rather hostile host who commanded us to take a crappy table. It was leaning and there was another available. I wonder that if I were straight and white - perhaps I would have been treated better? Always hate it when a person of color treats another person of color with disrespect - have we taken a step backwards? I’m sure the food is lovely, but the service was just awful and left me feeling angry, slighted, and sad. Funny enough, the look of fear in the other waitstaff made me realize perhaps Perle could use some more training in service with a smile.

We only discovered Perle after the pandemic had begun, and it is located on a somewhat busy street and could be overlooked, but don't! French/continental cooking and all of it excellent, even having to judge it by takeout standards. And now that outdoor service has followed indoor service, your only option is takeout/delivery. Every dish we've had has been delicious, and their special this past week of boeuf bourguignon, covered in a terrific pastry crust, was the best. And the tasty mussels and fries are definitely worth a try.
So if you live in the Pasadena area (and Union Street is just off of Colorado Boulevard, the main drag), check out Perle. You'll be glad you did!
A new addition to old town Pasadena dining scene
When we heard about this restaurant, headed by a Michelin Star chef, that was opening before the pandemic, we were so looking forward to dine here. Once the pandemic started, we just haven’t had a chance. As We heard about the outdoor dining option with this restaurant’ reopening, we made a reservation for dinner tonight.
The Menu is simple but extensive in its own right. Many good appetizers and side dishes. We ended up ordering only one main dish for two of us but gotten two appetizers and two sides.
For the two appetizers, we chose toast shrimp and escargot. The shrimp dish had a lot of garlic. It was good to go with banquettes. As for the escargot, the snails were very tasty and tender. The sauce was quite good.
As for the side, we got sautéed mushroom and a truffle fries. Out of the two, the truffle fries was my fave. The fries were crispy and I love the taste of the truffle.
The main dish we ordered was the Moule frite. The mussels were a bit skinny but the flavor was good with garlic, butter and onions.
For the final touch, we had chocolate soufflé for dessert. It was right on to finish our meal.
For parking, there is one garage close to the restaurant on Amanda and Colorado with 90 minutes free parking.
