Have no clue how this place has less than 5 stars, we have been to a few of the scratch restaurants and this one soared past all expectations. Cost may look pricey but you are paying for the experience and let me tell you- it's well worth it. This spot is hard to find, walking down the east side you could easily walk past it as there's no sign and it's a dark area you can't really see into. Feels almost like a speakeasy. Upon walking in you're greeted by a few folks at a beautiful bar with unique/chic seating and decor. You're treated with a welcome cocktail and a set of welcome horderves all of which were to die for. After you finish up they walk you into the main dining room - still intimate setting instead with a direct view of the live kitchen! You can choose to do a wine pairing, they have various cocktail options as well including beers if that's your speed. Directly upon entering the main dining room the chefs start bringing over the first course. I won't spoil it but every flavor from start to finish was seriously indescribable. After several main courses we were getting full, however, you're treated with a palate cleanser that I could've eaten 10 of, so light, crisp, and refreshing. They timed it perfectly and it almost brings you out of the food coma and back to be ready for more. The dessert again was decadent, unlike anything I've tried before. All that to say, you need to try this place! We will be back. A-Z a perfect experience and the service was outstanding to top it all off. Thanks for an incredible experience y'all!

Simply stated, the best service and food we have had in Austin. Amazing. The staff and chefs were as good as any we have had and we travel the world for food.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely LOVED the Pasta|Bar.
The atmosphere and the friendly chefs. We loved that we got to meet other people we were sitting with and here to stories of the chefs. Food was amazing!! We left Full. The wine was great and paired perfect. The team makes the presentation special with different ways to serve or add tastes. Very Cool. The chefs talked about how they are always improving and trying new things for the customers. They obviously love their jobs. We have tried many tasting menus in Austin (WInk, Barley Swine, Emmer&Rye, Juniper, Lenior) and we thought this one was one of the best! The whole flow is fun- from the beginning cocktail, to hanging out by the bar at the end. Very well done.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here last weekend and left satisfied and happy.
One of us has been to Sushi Bar before (taken there for her birthday by a friend), but we were both excited to check out this location since it's been on our radar for a while. They started us off with an effervescent mojito sparkler drink, perfect for whetting the appetite. There were a few amuses on the table to start, all delicious, and we liked the personal touch of the name settings. All the guys working the stations and explaining the dishes were super polite, friendly, and professional. The female somm was knowledgeable and sweet, so we were pleased with the service all around. We also chatted for a bit with the folks catty-corner to us, so that made the experience even nicer. There were eleven courses, so we're not going to break them all done, and will just stick with comments on what was memorable. The sourdough bread was mind-flowingly delicious, and the halloumi salad thing was an ideal cold starter course. The only dish one of us absolutely detested was the crude, which had way too much fruit-centricness and tasted too chewy. Blegh--barely ate it! Tortellini with mushroom and truffles? A+. The lobster ravioli dish was good, but the temperature seemed off as we would have liked it a bit warmer than it was served. The granita basil was unique and refreshing, and honestly, the final gelato course with the fig jam was one of the best desserts that we've ever had in this damn town. So, so special and unique. Yes, you will spend moooonnnnnneeeyyyyy. Lots of it. But we've spent close to it on crappier meals at "fancy" places around town that suck so badly, and those are a dime a dozen. Our honest advice would be to skip those places and save up for a dinner here because it's actually worth it. Four stars. Pasta is good for the soul during these dark times.
Be the first to ReplyWe should have read the reviews before scheduling.
I have no idea why this place is called "pasta" bar as I don't think we ever experienced any pasta during our evening. We had tried Sushi Bar and were very happy with that experience so it was time to try Pasta Bar. And our experience here was quite the opposite. They start you off with some drink that I could definitely have done without. For the price we paid for dinner, I would have preferred to pick my own drink to start with. We were brought into a small dining area, similar to Sushi Bar, and it's a nice intimate setting. There is someone who calls themselves a "sommelier" but I question that person's training. She seemed to just repeat something rehearsed and she was visibly annoyed when people weren't paying attention to her. Like Sushi Bar, we had multiple servings but little past (if any). I've been going to Italy since the 1980's and my daughter studied in Italy and I can make my own pasta. So, I'm pretty comfortable when saying there was no pasta here. I think serving different sauces with a combination of meats is great, but I feel it's a huge stretch to put "pasta" in the name of this restaurant. Furthermore, after reading many of the reviews, I think most people seem to be drawn in to this "Michelin Star" which applies to another location and not this one. Finally, the cost. I have had some expensive meals in my past, but this one tops the charts. Not only that, but they add the gratuity and I have NEVER heard of such a thing. Certainly when you have a large party, but we were only two people. So, if you are thinking about coming here... be prepared for a bill around $700!!!! And I'm sure it goes without saying there are countless Italian restaurants in Austin where you can get an amazing meal for about one-third this price. Honestly, if someone else were paying the tab, I would not come back here. Biggest waste of money for any meal I have ever had and if you are considering dining here... I would seriously reconsider.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place? The staff was so friendly and welcoming.
It is cute, cozy, yet elegant. I loved the dishes and the creativity that went into them. It was such a magical experience and you can tell so much thought and talent is behind each dish. If you are a foodie, you must come here.

After trying their Sushi Bar restaurant, I was curious about Pasta Bar. The feel is similar in terms of an intimate dinner party feel. The night we went it was only six guests and a lot more chefs than customers. Upon arrival at a building with no signage except the street number, you enter a lounge bar area and start with a welcome drink. We then feasted on three amuse bouches followed by an 11 course meal with a mix of pasta and meat courses. Each dish was so well balanced in both textures and flavors. The staff was great and chatted with everyone throughout the evening.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is really overrated in my opinion.
The food was okay. There were a couple really good dishes. And the sourdough bread in the beginning was great. But for a $726 check for 2 ppl ($190/person for food, and we had one of us do the $145 wine pairing), we were expecting much, much more. Also it's clear they're trying to rush you through the experience in time for the next seating. While I was in the bathroom briefly, they took away one of my half-eaten courses and an unfinished cocktail. When I came back I was like "wtf" and they comped me with one extra gnocchi pasta bite from the next course. Wow, thanks. Never coming back here I again. If you want fine dining / tasting, I recommend Barkley Swine or Jeffrey's.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my second time at Pasta Bar.
If you enjoy an immersive experience, this is the place for you. Pasta is only in some dishes, so don't worry that you will be overwhelmed with Pasta, the flavors, and combinations they create are Michelin Star level. The Staff is friendly and engaging; you are told about each dish and, if you do the pairing of wines, how that wine came from and why it was selected for the dish. They keep it interesting by making subtle changes to each course, so you will never be bored if you are a regular.

I'm a everyday guy who doesn't have an "elegant palette" I enjoy junk food, hot chips, and sweets, with that being said I took the risk of trying out this immersive dining experience. This was my first time in Austin and with a lot of the "tiktoc" food spots I tried I was unfortunately let down and unsatisfied especially with the high price points everywhere you go. With that being said, this spot is worth every single penny in my wallet, it leaves you speechless, it takes you on a rollercoaster story experience that gives your tongue UNIQUE new flavors that BOLDLY blend together perfectly, SERVICE was top tier, chefs almost read everything your craving from wine flavors to refills to feeling cold and raising the temperature, Austin is a beautiful spot and this little restaurant made my experience that much more amazing, I'll 100% drive 4 hours on a special occasion JUST for this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyOverall I really have mixed feelings about my experience.
The service was top notch while I felt the food selection or could you say meat/seafood selection was sub par. When you are paying top dollar for this type of experience you are expecting the food to match that level. One of the selections that really threw me for a curve ball was crawfish... it's one of the cheapest seafood options out there. The menu also didn't flow whatsoever. Did I leave full at the end of the night yes but I didn't feel like the overall experience was worth the price. I get that certain items rotate overtime but come on I feel like they cheaped out for this nights selections. Am I happy that I did it 100% yes but would I do it again no.

What an incredible dining experience! This is perfect for a special occasion dinner or to impress some friends that come to town! The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the food, wine, and drinks. They took our drink order by asking what we like and based the drink they created upon that. Service was truly top notch, the napkin was replaced every time someone went to the restroom. Also, each piece of utensil used for each dish was replaced each time for each dish, they must have went through hundreds of utensils for each sitting! The atmosphere was very chic and cool. The food was delicious and meticulously crafted. When I heard "pasta bar" I imagined multiple bowls of pasta but this was not that. It was very fancy pasta! My favorite was the fettuccine with truffle! This was a fantastic dining experience but it does cost you a pretty penny!

Each dish is explained as it comes out. Super educated and friendly staff. We did not do the wine pairing but opted for a full glass of the kind of wine that we like and the options they had were lovely. The sourdough bread is homemade and amazing. Each of the dishes has a unique flavor and we enjoyed them all. They have a great small batch wine selection as well. We left feeling very full and happy.Fav dishes: the zuppa, crudo and agnolotti

We've been trying all of Chef Philip Franklin Lee's restaurants since he started opening them in Austin. This pasta bar is truly an experience! Everything is made fresh to order at an intimate setting for only 8-10 people all seated around the bar and watching the cooking Live. The chefs are all personable and entertaining. The food is next level and if you care about talented chefs then this is the place to try. The sourdough bread and homemade butter kept us full the entire meal so there was never a dull moment while we waited in between courses. The ending of caviar on ice cream is the best dessert I ever had! This place is pricey but you get what you pay for. The only reason I put four stars instead of five was I didn't care for the venison but everything else was great!
Be the first to ReplyWOW WOW WOW!Finally some real fine dining in Austin! Pasta
WOW WOW WOW!Finally some real fine dining in Austin! Pasta Bar is a super upscale and intimate dining experience. The space sits about 10 people and is essentially set up in the kitchen. Prior to seating there is a small cocktail hour hosted in the bar area of the restaurant. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. The menu changes every week I believe and is served in a tasting menu format. (I even saved my menu and framed it). Your palate will be taken on an adventure from classic pasta dishes to fun Thai fusion twists. You are seated so close to the kitchen you are able to chat with the Chef, Sommelier, and other team members. Jeremy made our entire experience and is a wonderful human. Lindsey curated a wonderful wine pairing for the dinner and we got to experience wines from all over the world.

I have never had a tasting at an Italian restaurant, but this is one that I would highly recommend!! This is the second "By Scratch Kitchen" review Ive done and I can say..AWESOME JOB!!! Everything was executed in such a meticulous fashion and the tastes that they were creating you never would've thought went together...like caviar and ice cream !!! that one blew my mind and I loved it. The coolest part is the story behind each of the dishes...sets you up for the experience that will delight your tastebuds!! We had the tasting with the wine pairings and wow...got some ideas for new wines thats for sure. Things that stood out...- The bread - look sourdough is not all created equal trust me on this ...it was literally the gateway drug for the meal- The bone marrow....need I say more!?- The truffle spaghetti ...and the amount of truffles you were served!!! - That ice cream with the caviar ....just out of this world delicious Looking for a flavor adventure and a nice date night....DO THIS!!!

Just do it, don't think about it!Exquisite dishes that will savor your taste buds hours after your meal. This is a place that will leave you depressed for weeks going to other restaurants knowing it will never live up to restaurant heaven that is The Pasta Bar!The staff is very attentive and social which we enjoyed. Each dish comes with a history lesson that gives you an appreciation of what goes on behind the scenes. The chefs aren't chefs, they're artists, and every dish is prepared with the upmost love Well done to everyone at The Pasta Bar!

We've been to pasta bar 3 times since it opened and already made reservations for next month. This is one of the most outstanding culinary experiences you can have in Austin. There's a level of attention to detail and excellence from preparation to presentation that is unparalleled. Chef Jeremy is a master of culinary artistry.

This place (if you can find the entrance) is outstanding! It is the kind of upper echelon dining that Austin has been slow to court. I was so impressed by the setting, the storytelling, the atmosphere, and - of course - the food. There was not a thing on my plate that I did not finish, aside from the massive loaf of fresh sourdough. The chefs were explaining that the menu does rotate seasonally and I'd love to go back again to try the next iteration of what they cook up.

#WHERE IS THE PASTA!?!?!? The dinner was all over the place from an oyster, to apple sauce, to quail, to axis deer, and barely had any pasta. The meal was super rich causing two of us out of our group to get sick. Then the only "PASTA" dish we had was they're take on rigatoni. The pasta was cold and tasted like Mac n Cheese with bacon crumbles. The braised cheek, tasted like a microwave shredded meat pack you get from the grocery...For one bottle of wine and 2 of us it was $718. This restaurant isn't worth it for the quality of food received as two of us got sick. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY #WHEREISTHEPASTA
