Incredible food and great staff
I visited Oren with my boyfriend on a Saturday evening for food and drinks. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and just the right amount of attentive too. Dinner was super delicious - the chargrilled plates were particularly tasty. The food was probably the best Iโve had in London, filling and fantastic flavours. There is great variety of vegan options available which the staff will gladly talk through with you. The cocktail menu was great, with a good balance of classics and twists on classics - we tried the bergamot negroni, blood orange margarita, classic margarita and old fashioned. All the drinks were well balanced and yummy, and the bergamot negroni was especially good. The restaurant is small but there is plenty of space around the tables and the interior/decor creates an intimate and cosy environment. The menu is also reasonably priced and really good value considering the quality of food and service. A massive thank you to the team at Oren - well deserving of all the positive reviews and travel guide mentions.

An absolutely fantastic and delicious experience. The menu is perfect and the service really helpful and friendly too!
Be the first to ReplyA delightful spot in Dalston.
This is a very pleasant restaurant / bar / grill, tucked away in Dalston suburbia down Shacklewell Lane, near to Shacklewell Green. Itโs not a huge dining space, and is very popular, so reservations are essential. We booked well in advance and could only secure a spot at the bar! That was fine though we had a fairly narrow dining time frame. The restaurant describes itself as serving โMediterranean inspired sharing platesโ; I perceived the dishes to be more of Middle Eastern origin, and particularly Israeli, rather than the traditional Mediterranean fare I know. The restaurant has a comfortable and relaxed ambiance, and our corner spot at the bar was comfortable and thankfully a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the busy bar activities. The food is served โtapas styleโ - small sharing plates drawn from four broad menu selections, namely vegetables, fish, meat, and desserts, with five or six choices in each section. Many dishes are prepared on a grill. For the main part of our meal we chose five sharing plates between two diners, on the suggestion of the waitress that that was probably ample. The plates we chose were: the Fig Carpaccio with toasted almonds and coriander; the Courgettes with yoghurt, the Hispi Cabbage, the Jerusalem Mix Grill, and the Lamb and Beef Arayes. The servings werenโt huge, and ranged in price from ยฃ8.00 to ยฃ11.00. All were really fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented except for the Ayares which was over-grilled and a little on the burnt side. Our desserts were the Pear Fool (ยฃ8.00) and the Fig Cake (ยฃ7.00). Both were exceptional. Our bill, with three glasses of wine, was almost ยฃ110.00, so not cheap dining by any means. Service was friendly and cheerful, without being overbearing or intrusive. The restaurant has outside seating on the pavement. Itโs at ground level and should be accessible to those requiring mobility assistance. Itโs about a 15 minute walk from Dalston Junction Overground station. Itโs a good addition to the relatively lack-lustre dining scene in Dalston, and one we would definitely return to.

We had seven dishes, all exellent, loved it. Service was friendly and cometent, we loved it! The only thing that was not so great was the nois level, it was very noisy.

Great, homely restaurant. We had a few small plates and they were all delicious! We couldnโt choose so the waiters helped us understand the menu and they recommended a few dishes. Brilliant!

Once again a superb meal at this great little local restaurant. Delicious unusual food , reasonable price , great staff l, lovely cocktails and good music
Be the first to ReplyGreat flavours
It's a place with smallish plates, which arrive fairly randomly but are all zinging with flavour. Full marks for the pollock pastrami and the delicious anchovy flatbread. The ox cheek came in an amazingly flavoured sauce, for which they thoughtfully provided a spoon. Really enjoyed a glass of the highly tannic 'orange' wine to start, then on to a bottle of Spanish Cab Sav, the cheapest on the list at ยฃ32.00. Service was great and at the end of the meal we were even offered a glass of Fernet Branca on the house !
This amazing cuisine does not come cheap, though, so sadly it will remain a 'special occasions' place for us.
Nice restaurant with friendly atmosphere
Great food and service. Unusual menu of varied small plates making it an expensive, but interesting dinner experience.

Simply fantastic. The dishes are all well executed, exploding with such complimentary but sometimes curiously contrasting flavours. The concept is sharing dishes. We pretty much ordered the entire menu for our table of 3. Even the seemingly basic sounding dishes really stimulated the taste buds. Their alcohol based dessert is to die for. The ambience is eclectic and vibrant, bustling full of London revellers and foodies. In essence the menu is a work of art. This place has become a regular spot of mine, you must book though.

Food is ok- some dishes are delicious and some are so not interesting. The place is always busy and makes us all curious to go in and try- the main issues is portion size. Itโs not tapas priceโฆ prices are main courses priced but sizes are tapas size which should be advised before so the customer can understand that their dishes are very small.
Their breads are very good. I recommend trying the challah and of course the pitta. Service is not amazing- they used to have amazing staff when they opened but since the ease of last lockdown I have been served by people they definitely didnโt make me feel good at all. So I just stopped eating and left. Now is just ok they can improve- but the main thing there is the overpricing of small dishes. If you want to eat enough to not feel hungry be ready to spend ยฃ100 per head!!
Delicious food in an intimate restaurant
Thank you to the kitchen team as delicious dishes.
Lots of plates to choose from - enjoyed sardine Caesar salad, hake kebabs, flat bread, Jerusalem mixed grill - to name a few.
Good feel/vibe. Maybe the music could be a tad lower in volume (just my age lol)
Will be back and really enjoyed it.
Great menu - Israeli influence with Mediterranean feel.
Delicious.
Thank you
Gem of a place!
One of the best dining out experiences I have had in a long time. Quite unassuming looking from the outside, and simple and informal bistro style inside, but with a great buzzy atmosphere. The simplicity of the menu cannot do justice to the intensity of the flavour and taste sensation of the dishes, and without exception, everything we ordered was a joy to the tastebuds. Our favourites on the night included the gravlax, pollock, pork belly and hispi cabbage. The food comes out at different intervals so you can savour each dish and you just want to carry on and on. We had no room left for desserts but finished off with cocktails. Thoroughly recommend!

Do not eat here. I was here having some nibbles and drinks the other night and one of the workers or bosses got into an argument with either another customer or a member of the public, it was really uncomfortable and then the people that worked at the restaurant began shouting racist slander to the customer/member of the public. We couldnโt believe it!! We will never be eating here again and we reported the racist verbal attack to the police. For a white male who owns a fancy restaurant in this area of Dalston to be supporting racist attacks is disgusting. Shut this place down I say!

My friend and I ordered a takeaway from Oren during lockdown and asked for it to arrive at the same time so we could have it from our own homes over Zoom (virtual dinner date!) The Oren staff were SO accommodating about our plan, which was very sweet of them during such a stressful and busy time. The food also travelled perfectly and they gave loads of freebies. Highly recommend their pitta and cholla bread! Portions are VERY generous so was really good value for money
