Great omakase! A friend and I came for the omakase and it was amazing. We lost count of how many courses we had but all were delicious. The unlimited sake was a nice touch. The sushi chef was wonderful and engaging. He explained each course in detail. Overall a great meal!

*4.5 stars Came here for dinner on Easter Sunday and it was pretty empty because of the holiday. It was like we had a private sushi tasting. This isn't your typical fancy omakase experience with several waiters ready to refill your water glass after every sip and recommending what premium sake to choose. It's pretty much a one man show with Chef Nobu acting as the host, waiter and sushi chef. The decor and ambiance were not impressive by any means. It's just a no frills sushi counter with dim lighting and a TV behind the bar, but don't let the appearance fool you. Chef Nobu prepare some fantastic sushi. He has many years of experience cooking Japanese cuisine and has cooked all over the world. He creates a casual, laid back dining experience and lets the food do the talking. First he lets you know that they have complimentary beer and sake. We opted for sake which wasn't great but also wasn't terrible. Then the omakase experience begins. There was a decent variety of appetizers from an oyster , to sashimi, to a little rice bowl. Then came the nigiri courses, followed by a wagyu hand roll and a green tea and red bean ice cream sandwich. Every course was delicious and there were a couple courses where smoke elements were used instead of just the blow torch, which added to the presentation. The stand out courses to me were the salmon sashimi with ponzu sauce in the bottom then topped with a truffle sauce, the o toro and the scallop with foie gras. Also, there were a couple courses with Hokkaido uni t which you can't go wrong with. Overall, 15 courses for $80 and complimentary beer and sake is pretty hard to beat. Also the fact that within those courses you get Hokkaido uni, o toro, foie gras, wagyu and other premium fish that you don't normally see at an entry level omakase restaurant is a great deal.

The chef, Noble, prepared everything beautifully on the counter in front of us with complementary sake non-stop. Toro, salmon and scallops with a foie gras topping were the best. Though you may not get these dishes every time, apparently what is served is inspirational for the chef. Dinner lasts about an hour and a half with no less than 20 courses and is amazing. No walk-ins, just reserved seating at 5, 7.30 and 8pm. The website, however, needs to state this clearly, otherwise it can be quite confusing. The restaurant isn't open for those who do not reserve, but neither website, nor even the door sign make it clear. One more issue--a giant TV with some muted sports playing. I ignored it because food and service were so good, but it was annoying and didn't fit the overall wonderful experience. They should think of something better for us--images of Japan or sushi restaurants there, or fish swimming or some such.

Reading all the reviews for Koko raised some concerns, however I'm glad I didn't listen. Koko has apparently just recently moved away from being an AYCE establishment and has re-imagined themselves as an Omakase destination. At just $80/pp which included all you can drink beer and sake Koko is a deal.Every dish was delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly, leading to an enjoyable evening. My only complaints holding this back from a 5-star experience are that 1) Koko leveraged what can only be described as gimmicky preparations for a number of dishes (ex: berry scented smoke) which overpowered the other ingredients and 2) the counter seating felt more suited for a sports bar with basketball games playing on TVs behind the chefs than it did for an upscale Omakase restaurant. The next time in NYC I would happily go back, as I expect that the new Omakase experience will only improve as Koko continues to refine it.

Highly recommend a reservation to have a true relaxed experience with friends. The music was a very good modern selection that was fun to sing along with. But the best part was the omakase courses. So many different bites that really made my first omakase experience superb. The flavor profiles were unique and different, but SO VERY DELICIOUS. The complimentary house beer and sake is also a nice touch which made this omakase an affordable and great deal for the type of experience your receiving. I booked on open table for a reservation and I think that's the way to go to have a nice counter top experience. Vera the hostess was hilarious and always made sure my beer was never empty. Overall 11/10 if I could give this place that high of a rating.

This place has been newly restructured as Omakase only style. I have never been to Koko before tonight, and this was the most incredible dining experience! So personal, interactive, and delicious! Such creativity and care put into the flavors flavors. Wonderful staff and just overall an amazing time.

Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely great spot.
Seems like they pivoted recently from their old restaurant to a omakase-style restaurant. Great decision. Staff was very friendly, food was amazing, vibes were awesome. I'd highly recommend this spot to anyone for great omakase.

I was going to another All You Can Eat place but, on the way, my friend and I saw Koko Sushi and the restaurant I planned to go are sister restaurant. Plus, it was windy, so we decided to just eat here instead. They give us a tablet to order the food, sadly there are some limits of order, not everything is unlimited. Sashimi is only 10 pcs for each AYCE, 2 pcs for special and the rest has no limit. Quality of food is okay; you get what you pay for. Snow crab is kind of dry and stick with the shell. Salmon and Tuna are good, another fish is so so. Service is part of part not crazy about. The waiter is good but the waitress seems no not happy working.

Won't do sushi without sesame seeds for all you can eat (I've been here about 10 times and never had an issue until recently). I asked why-- "it's too much work for the chefs"-- it was 4pm and they were virtually empty. Apparently NOT putting something on is too much work.

This review is based off of 2 encounters. The first time was a couple of month ago, I tried to call in my take out order. They refused to take my order over the phone because they were "busy" and told me to order online. I placed my order online, however it prompts you at the end of selection to choose a table (?). I showed up to Koko and they didn't have my order, so I waited 10 minutes and eventually got it after they said I ordered it wrong online. I told them about how their online order website wasn't working for take out. Mind you, the restaurant only had 2 seated tables. My second encounter was today. Called to place take out order and was rudely told "we are not doing take out orders because we're busy." I asked if there was a specific time they stop, and he quickly responded back "no take outs." I then mentioned my prior experience and asked how I can order sushi then? I would not have minded to stop by in person. Instead he said "no take outs, very busy" and then hung up on me.Though the pricing and sushi was decent, I will NOT be back and will be taking my business elsewhere. Not worth the rude customer service.
