Old Ebbitt Grill Washington Reviews from The Last Year
Birthday Bucket List
Birthday Dinner while having Our Bucket List Trip to DC for the Week . We Ordered Oyster Rockefeller & Crab Cake Entrees both were Delicious. Restaurant was very Busy but it was 5pm ... My Only Complaint was I made Old Ebbitt's aware at time of Reservation We were Visiting for Husband's Birthday & at Check In Hostess ask Me Who had the Birthday I pointed & Told Her My Husband. We were Seated & Served by Our Server Whom did a Good Job ... but SADLY not a Word by Server was said about My Husband's Birthday. I didn't want to bring it Up in Front of My Husband so left without any Birthday Acknowledgement.
Old Ebbitt - New Favorite!
We visited early evening on a Monday. We first sat at the bar for drinks with plans to get a table for dinner later. Bartender Alex was so great we didn’t leave the bar! His suggestions were spot on, his service was excellent, very personable. Obviously a popular place, nice atmosphere. We had beer (several on draft), peach sangria, wine, and a sample of a killer coffee martini. After sampling the martini I regretted getting the glass of wine. lol For dinner we had the soft-shell crab plate and the crab cake plate. Both exceeded expectations. Raspberry cheesecake, ordered to-go, was a divine late night treat. Not a single complaint about our visit. Thanks for the awesome experience, Alex!
Our server was absolutely amazing.
I wish I could remember her name because she deserves a special shout out. We arrived on a Monday evening and although they were quite busy, we only had about a 10 minute wait. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable and as I said the service was great. The food was also good. It's a bit pricey but everything moved along nicely from the appetizers, entrees, drinks, etc. Nice experience for sure.

The best restaurants in one of the best places ever in Washington DC Washington DC I cannot over emphasize how good the food was

When in Washington DC, a great place to stop in for food and drink is Old Ebbitt Grill. We were there on conference staying near the White House, and this was our to go to place late night. Highly recommend stopping by and checking it out. Food and service was spot on!

Oh my gosh--the ambiance of this restaurant is cozy and fantastic. I understand why 7 presidents have eaten here. It's incredibly clean. It's the oldest continuously serving restaurant. Our wait staff was friendly and very helpful when we asked for her recommendations. We had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated but the drinks and appetizers came out as each was done -- probably about 5-10 minutes. The clam chowder, the crab dip, and free rustic bread were delicious. I ordered the soft shell crab and roasted veggies. There was nothing left! Some of the other dishes ordered: shrimp Alfredo, salmon, and scallops. Everything arrived piping hot. If you're in DC this restaurant is a must do!

Being in DC for work, we planned a nice dinner for our group. Old Ebbitt Grill was suggested for being a local institution, having a nice ambiance, and being open late. We arrived for our reservation and were seated quickly. Our cocktails were tasty and I'm a lightweight so a tad strong for me but others would appreciate it. For my entree, I chose the trout parmesan. The fish was beautifully cooked, flaky and moist with great flavor. The potatoes and green beans were similarly prepared and seasoned well. Portion was pretty good size, I had leftovers to take back to my hotel mini fridge. Service was good. We probably spent about an hour and a half dining. Our server understood the need for the alcohol to be on a separate check and accommodated it with no problem. If I wanted a nice meal in DC again, I'd definitely go back.
Yesterday we had lunch at Okd Ebbit, and everything was 5*.
The food, we had the Crab and arthicoke dip- dont miss it! Steak frites, the softshelll crab and a burger. Everything was very delicious. It is a huge place with a very nice interior. Our waitress was the best so far during our US trip, sorry I forgot her name, she was from the south. She was very knowlegable, she gave us good recommendations.

Their ribeye is first class but their Italian wine and clam chowder could be better. The wine had tasted like it had some vinegar in it. The clam chowder tasted like it came from a can. The ribeye was ordered medium rare and was cooked perfectly. It melted in my mouth and was reasonably priced.

Service - good Ambience - it's a big restaurant, we sat in the back "patio" so not in the main restaurant which was probably better since it was less noisy. Food - I had the Walter's Favorite, basically Reuben. I'm not to Reuben connaisseur so take it a grain of salt. It was a lot for me, I probably would have been fine with half the sandwich, it was decent but something to rave about, might be jet lag but wouldn't get it again. I believe they are more known for their seafood so again with a grain of salt.
Outstanding Each Time
Had an extended weekend in DC with my wife for her niece’s graduation. We ended up eating here three different times, once for lunch and twice for dinner. Outstanding food and service each time. Order the French Dip and fries…you will not be disappointed. Walk your meal off afterwards since the White House is just around the next corner.
Classy Haunt.
For grad students. Every one is welcome but alumni get very special treatment.
The oyster bar is outa sight.
Historic ambiance, always lively. Great for meet ups. Great food and great service.
Amazing time after time
This was our third time at this restaurant. Every time we sit at the bar. We had lamb chops and the Cesar salad. We had probably three or four different drinks. Everything was absolutely amazing. All the bartenders were great, great personality, great social skills, and they also made amazing drinks. Definitely recommend this place. Can’t wait to come back.
Good service and great food
Our visit couldn't have been better, what a cool place to have a nice dinner. Very old school, we had oysters on the half shell, steak and scallops, they all were great. The service was awesome, and the atmosphere was really great!
Good breakfast!
Nice place with good atmosphere! Good service and lovely pancakes with crispy bacon. Freshly brewed hot coffee made the meal perfect.
Good place in the upper price range
We were a couple who stopped by for an early meal and the breakfast menu was still in place. Good food in beautiful premises and pleasant service.
A Washington D.C. classic.
I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant near the White House, one of the oldest in the city, which has a Victorian style that transports us back in time, from the bar, the stained glass windows and mirrors, to the gas lamps, everything. This generates a warm and pleasant atmosphere to enjoy, whether from its beautiful bar or the large number of tables that the place has. The food and service are of high quality. The meats and oysters stand out, the burgers are excellent and the desserts also stand out in their quality. A place worth visiting in the city with the family.
Old School DC/Historic Restaurant
It was a wait to get in, but that is apparently to be expected - always busy! The amazing old architecture, history, and atmosphere were amazing. We had a wonderful meal. The meatloaf and pimiento cheeseburger were excellent. We also loved the peanut butter pie! Highly recommend!
Always on my “to do” list when in DC!
Stopped in after a long day of touring! Wonderful atmosphere, great bartenders and fantastic wings! We were able to sit at the bar without a wait, we were lucky! Do yourself a favor, especially if you like seafood, and enjoy! Planning on coming back with a group later in the week. Reservations are suggested.
Old Ebbitt Grill - A Must Stop!
Stopped for a drink and an early dinner after being sightseeing tourists for the day. Sat at the bar, as usual, because we love the atmosphere and woodwork. Great service. I had the Fried Chicken Rice Bowl. Wow. A lot of good flavors that blended well together. Great portion, very filling. I would get it again, it was very good. Wanda had the Prime Rib Sandwich with a side of a fruit cup. She enjoyed the sandwich and said the fruit was excellent, very sweet. A definite stop when we are in town.
Old Ebbitt Dinner
What a great place to have dinner with my wife. We like restaurants with atmosphere and this had it in abundance, and the food was good too. Our waiter Sal was very attentive and tried to make sure we had a great time, which he succeeded in doing. My wife had the mussels and I had the steak and no complaints from us.
Enjoy with friends!!
I recently dined at old Ebbitt Grill, and it exceeded all my expectations. The menu is creative and diverse, and each dish was a culinary masterpiece. The atmosphere is also warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a special occasion and hangout with friends.
Service above and beyond
Do not miss out on going to Old Ebbitt Grill when you are in DC. I have been there before but this experience was over the top with the support and attention provided by the restaurant. After a full day of tours and visits on the hill. we were trying to make our way to the restaurant for the 5:30 reservation but Ubers and cabs for the group were hard to obtain. I called the restaurant and talked to Tanya- she kindly gave me a 15 minute grace period for our party of 12. We thought we were all settled in for a wonderful evening and we were but in the meantime, one person in our party went to the restroom and on the way became light headed from the heat of the day and lack of water. He fell and the next thing I knew the restaurant manager, John McConnell quickly came to the table and asked me to come with him as he knew I was the host for the group. He was so discrete in the way he handled it so as to not raise an alarm to the group. Fortunately one person in our party was a physician and he quickly determined that stitches would be needed. John then ran to a nearby CVS to pick up butterly stitches and returned so the injured person could be attended to by our physican and then taken to a nearby urgent care clinic. As if this wasn't enough, the waitress, Julia packed up the dinners that had been ordered and had all of the utencils and things they would need to enjoy their dinner in the room after taking care of the injury. In spite of the injury, the rest of the group had a wonderful meal- great service and in the background, the restaurant manager handled the incident so well. Old Ebbitt Grill- your entire team from Tanya to Julia and our superhero, John made the experience a wonderful one. By the way- the food for exceptional and the history of the Old Ebbitt Grill is amazing. Thank you John and your team.
Old Ebbitt's a must when in DC
Old Ebbitt's is an absolute must when visiting DC! The food is absolutely amazing and you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits and the crab cakes! We are here twice during our stay!
Anniversary Dinner
The service and food here were amazing. Went for a special anniversary dinner with my husband and it did not disappoint. Our server was friendly, informative and quick. We had the raw oysters, pork chop and scallop dinners. Everything was outstanding and delicious, a little pricey but worth it. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Yummy
The food was absolutely amazing. I had the Parmesan Trout, which was incredible. My mom had the Bone-in pork chop and it was seasoned very well. We had the Rockefeller Oysters and they were delicious. The dessert was also amazing.
Excellent!
Excellent meal! Excellent service! Hope to go again! It was a great meal. I had scallops, which were some of the best I have ever had. Others in my group had lamb. Our plates were all clean. Jack was an excellent server! My only wish is that we had made a reservation ahead of time. It was a beautiful day to be in DC, so our wait was over 30 minutes. But we walked around so a pleasant wait. Oh and dessert was excellent too! Save some room if you can! Please treat yourself to this treat while in DC!
Be Sure to Dine Here!
We had a wonderful experience last evening at the Old Ebbitt Grill, with truly delicious food and excellent service. Saiming, our server, was on top of things all throughout our meal. She was personable, made recommendations and was available whenever we needed something. One of the best parts of the Old Ebbitt Grill is the atmosphere and the beauty of the restaurant, including the 4 large bars. We can’t recommend enough that if you are in D.C., stop in. For sure! It’s well worth it.
Love Old Ebbitt
Every time we go to DC, we eat here at least once. Thankfully I made a reservation a few weeks before our trip because this place is jam packed on Saturday. We squeezed our way in and the hostess seated us quickly. I think the wait was around an hour without a reservation. I've always enjoyed the meals I order at Old Ebbitt Grill and this time was no exception. Everything was delicious. My family loves their raw oysters. This place is close to the White House in a very busy part of DC. Old Ebbitt hasn't disappointed us yet. It's always delicious and it's a must do when we're in DC!
