So Glad to be back
My husband and I have eaten at Obelisk for years and were delighted when it reopened to on site dining! The dining room is a peaceful place, like being in someone's home. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. And, the food is simply fabulous--well cooked and presented. While the set menu is very filling, the portions are reasonable and the cooking simply sublime. Be sure to keep Obelisk on your "go to" list.
Be the first to ReplyLovely small restaurant, terrific food.
This is fabulous restaurant, so discreet that you can hardly find it(a sign might help). We hadn't realized it was a prix fixe set menu, so were a bit surprised at that, but we adjusted expectations and were delighted all around. It's small, has lovely quiet ambience, you can hear each other's words (but not other tables') and the food is FABULOUS. The only negative is that the wine prices are exorbitant. We wished we'd brought our own and paid the corkage fee($40). This is a "special occasion" place, when you expect to spend a lot of tme savoring every bite and enjoying every minute. A lot of food and $$ for a regular dinner out, but worth it! Service was friendly and good.
Be the first to ReplyStill amazing after 35 years
Had another amazing meal at Obelisk. For a 35 year old restaurant, it is still perfection. The opening snacks are delicious as always and included burrata and anchovies in puff pastry. The bread sticks are the best in DC. The grilled squab that night was so tasty and moist. This is a great Italian restaurant, be sure to reserve ahead.
Be the first to ReplyItalian food at its best
Obelisk is back after closing during covid. We have been eating here since the 80's and it is:still my favorite Italian restaurant in the country. The almost translucent tortellini filled with ricotta and herbs melted in my mouth. The grilled squab was the best I have ever had. One starts with about five snacks that last migt included home made burrata, puff pastry with anchovies, delicious pate and chickpea fritters. And the service...very, very friendly and knowledgeable. Everything about this restaurant will remind you of the best of Italy.

I've always meant to try Obelisk and asked to go there for my birthday. The setting is wonderful, especially since we got the charming bay window table. An intimate spot with the hustle and bustle of Dupont Circle out the window. The simple food was absolutely delicious. We ordered everything off the menu and then shared bites. Obelisk is like being in Italy.
Be the first to ReplyThe place for foodies
This is a restaurant for foodies not afraid to spend some money for good food. Dinner, bottle of wine, tax, tip will set you back about $250 for 2. It is a fixed 5 course meal that changes regularly so you should call 1st if you are a fussy eater. There a couple of choices for main course. 2 courses are cheese and dessert. Nice, quiet atmosphere so you can actually have a conversation. Lovely, knowledgeable service. Truly a quality dining experience.

Very small place, not particularly easy to find or get to but I guess that's part of the appeal. Chosen specifically because it was listed on the Washingtonians Top 100 list. It was pretty much what they said it would be, also pretty affordable for a wine pairing tasting menu.

Obelisk is a small restaurant of 11 tables with a fixed price menu for five courses. Antipasti Misti, Primi, Secondi, Formaggi and Dolci. Our menu offered three options in the primi, secondi and dolci courses. The black bass and the duck breast were highlights of the meal. Also, enjoyed the panna cotto and poached pear desserts.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in DC!
We ahve been dining at obelisk for 20+ years. It is one of the finest restaurants in DC or anywhere else! The menu is limited and very sepcial. Antipasti, primi, main, chees, and desert. I had the papardelle with wild boar ragu, squab, and ice cream, Others had the ravioli and wagyu beef skirt steak. A bottle of Baola. A perfect night in the perfect restaurant. Very few tables, so reserve early. Highest recommendation!!
Be the first to ReplyMy new "go to" Place in DC
Everything was excellent the food, the service and the atmosphere. I highly recommend this place for any occasion. It will be on my โgo toโ list whenever I am in DC.
I liked the quiet atmosphere and the fact that many small dishes were served throughout the meal. Every small dish was interesting and delicious.
Some of the reviews say it is expensive which I did not find to be true. Perhaps that is because I thought it was such good value for the money.
Wonderful Food & Dining Experience...and Corkage!
This was our second visit to Obelisk; we went this same time last year (also for my boyfriendโs birthday). When making the reservation, I again let them know that we are both pescatarian & I canโt eat shellfish. Unlike last year, they knew upon seating us of our dietary requests, and the server immediately began informing us of which options on the menu would be appropriate.
Again, they bring a variety of great dishes for the Antipasti Misti course, along with bread and butter. The farro (believe it was with butternut squash) was my favorite, my boyfriend really liked the fried shrimp, and we both enjoyed the roasted peppers (and I may be forgetting a dish). And he got two servings of the burrata, since I donโt like cheese!
For the first course (Primi), we couldnโt order the cranberry bean soup as she told us it had a pork-flavored broth, or the rabbit dish, so that left us with the sweet potato ravioli. But it certainly wasnโt settling for anything, as that ravioli was fantastic in its sage brown butter sauce!!
For the Secondi course, we each ordered the pompano, although I ordered the rapini and potatoes as the accompaniments, since I donโt like lima beans. Itโs great that the chef is willing to make these accommodations, and we both really enjoyed that dish, especially as the fish was cooked perfectly.
Of course, my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the cheese course (although he couldnโt finish both his and mine; he had to leave room for dessert!). As for dessert, we both got the pear pie w/vanilla ice cream...the same dessert we had last year and still enjoyable. And they were nice enough to put a candle in his when they brought it out.
Overall, this is a great dining experience. We got to bring our own bottle of wine and enjoy a leisurely dining experience with great food in a cozy setting.
