I had the best dinner here! The pre fixe menu was fantastic and a real bargain. I thought it had noticeably better food, service, ambiance, and value than other fine French eateries in the bay area. 5 out of 5 stars!

We celebrated our mother's birthday at O' by Claude le Tohic, the place is very beautiful, service was great and food was delicious. Highly recommend it!

Food was quite good! There was a mix up with scheduling on our part so that may have been a factor. (I'm not entirely sure how that may factor into prep, but consider this review as a walk-in instead of a res) We did the larger tasting menu and this was plenty of food. Left full. The interior was beautiful, nice and darker ambiance, my personal preference. The service was very friendly but my one complaint (for lack of a better word, it wasn't that big of a deal) is that it felt the timing of the service could have been smoother. There was a bit of an awkward time gap in between some of the courses. The food itself was pretty good, if I were to come again I'd probably opt for the smaller tasting menu and do the wagyu instead of the foie gras. The desert with the citrus and the flower was my favorite! The Langoustine was my favorite main. Cheers!

(Ryan Reynolds avec a French accent voiceover) The vibe is best gourmet restaurant I have been to date in the entire Bay Area including Napa et Paris. Mais oui. Kevin warmly greeted us and flawlessly corrected the computer glitch. Jasmine took our order. She's not only awesome; she's the consummate professional. We just had to indulge in the 9 course meal for the immersive O' by Claude Le Tohic experience w/ many of the delightful supplements. Contemporary French/Nouveau American Venron was great! Super friendly and made sure our dinner went perfect! Mabuhay! "Charcoal-Roasted Beets, Fresh Herbs (gazpacho de chou rouge, marmelade de betteraves à la braise, herbes fraîches)" C'est magnifique! "Shellfish, Dashi Gelée, Osetra Caviar, Baby Radish (salade de fruits de mer en gelée de dashi, caviar ossétre, jeune radis)" Incroyable! "Black Cod Lightly Smoked and Roasted, Celery Root, Hazelnut, Matsutake Tea (mi-fumée et rôti, céleri-rave, noisette, thé matsutake)" avec Black Truffle. Wow! "Chapon Roasted with Foie Gras, Trumpet Mushroom, Chestnut, Natural Jus (rôtie au foie gras, trompette et châtaigne, jus naturel)" avec Black Truffle. This was marvelous! And of course: "A5 Hokkaido Wagyu, Winter Vegetables, Black Garlic, Natural Jus (légumes d'hiver, ail noir, jus naturel)" avec Black Truffle. La pièce de résistance! Délicieux! The dessert was divine! "Vanilla Confit, Lemon Zest, Custard and Double Espresso Ice Cream (confit de vanille, zeste de citron, crémeux et crème glacée double espresso)" Amazing! "Mignardises Cart" Simply outstanding! Love ze petit chocolats! So decadent! What a fabulous meal! Marc then went the extra mile and gave us a tour of the different floors, dining rooms privée, and the kitchen! We're gonna have to dine at that special table by the kitchen next time! So great to see the kitchen where ze magic happens! We loved the chocolat factory! The heavenly aroma was intoxicating! mmhmm! Thank you for making the evening so memorable! Merci Kevin, Jasmine, Venron, and Marc! O' is clearly among the best French/Nouveau Americain restaurants we've been both foreign & domestic! The best for me et ma jeune femme préférée sur la planète Terre! We will be back for ze sequel! Woohoo!
Be the first to ReplyI was looking forward to some fine dining but got mediocre
I was looking forward to some fine dining but got mediocre meal with lots of bread and desserts. Dining room is nice and comfortable but nothing fancy. My Girlfriend and I opted for the Grand Tasting 9 course menu $295 and we started with the Beet Root which is a Red Cabbage Gazpacho. It's super tiny maybe 1-2 bites and it tastes ok. Second course was the Caviar Composition which was the best dish with scallop and lobster. Tiny portion but delicious. Third course is Abalone which wasn't so good. Kind of chewy and nothing special. Didn't enjoy it at all. They do bring out a bread tray with different choices for each course. Fourth course was the Langoustine which was presented nicely and tastes excellent. Good to dip your bread in the broth. Fifth course is the Wild Turbot with Swiss chard, mushrooms and Truffle Emulsion. The Turbot was dry and uninspiring and anyone can cook a better piece of fish at home. Big disappointment! Sixth course is Chapon which is fancy word for Chicken roasted with Foie Gras. This tasted like a can of Costco chicken and was barely edible. Seventh course is a Citrus w/ silky lemon cream, grapefruit compote and clementine sorbet. It's just Sorbet can get anywhere. Eight course is Chocolate & Coffee Entremet which is a fancy chocolate cake and tiny scoop of Espresso ice cream. By now I've had too much Dessert and can't finish it. Ninth course is the Mignardises Cart which is a Dessert Cart with lots of chocolates to choose from but so full that they pack you a small container to take home. We also had a French White Wine $105 which was pretty good and tip included on bill 20% for total of about $900. Overall the dishes were quite small and only enjoyed Caviar and Langoustine. The others weren't good quality and last 3 courses were desserts . Not sure how they can justify $295/person for this menu. Service was great which is why 2 star and not 1 star.
Be the first to ReplyThis was such an incredible and creative dinner.
I'm surprised that it only has one michelin star. From start to finish, every bite was cooked to perfection and the flavors were delicious and complex. The service was very good and the dining room had an elegant modern feel. The caviar composition was such a unique course, and I especially loved the madai tartare with radish and green apple, it was so addicting. The abalone as well as the turbot were also incredible and really stood out. All of the sauces were amazing and complimented each dish so well. Both of the desserts were incredibly flavorful and satisfying, they weren't too heavy and were the perfect ending to this wonderful meal. It was also fun to pick out our own mignardises at the very end from the cart. The chef even came out and greeted everyone which was very kind of him! I highly recommend dining here, this was my favorite meal i've had in San Francisco yet and I will definitely be back.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy Michelin star restaurants, and our recent visit to O' by Claude Le Tohic was a captivating experience. Opting for the 9-course menu, every dish was delicious, yet we found ourselves a bit too full by the end. Given my pregnancy, the non-alcoholic cocktails were a delightful highlight. While it was a fantastic experience overall, I'd recommend trying the 5-course menu for a more balanced culinary journey.

What an amazing experience! The first floor is a fabulous patisserie that rivals the best in all of France. A feast for your eyes and your palette! The main restaurant is on the 6th floor and we dined at the chef's table which overlooked a well run and highly skilled kitchen of the most amazing chef, sous chefs and staff. Above all else was the most flavorful and elegant dishes I have ever had. Just amazing. Layer upon layer upon layer of flavor. It is impossible to describe just how incredible each dish was but each of us fell in love with each dish presented in our 6 course paired meal. Only captured the amuse bouche and the first two courses before my phone died but the rest were equally colorful, beautifully plated and exquisite!

I came on a date and didn't want to upset my date as he is not one into social media postings so I did not take pictures of any of the courses. Only took pictures of the gift bag after I got home. Upon arrival to the restaurant, we looked for the entrance. Within a minute, a woman in black uniform greeted us on the street, asked for our reservation name then walked us to the elevator toward the back of the bakery next door. It all felt so secretive as if we were celebrities hiding from the paparazzi. The elevator took us to the top floor. Once the elevator door opened, you see a beautiful restaurant with very nice decor and ambiance. Elegant indeed. The prix fixed dinner was preordered. Every course was presented artisticly, and every dish tasted delicious. The bread tray they came around with was filled with items I have almost never seen before, such as the Shiitake mushroom puff among many others. Over the course of the dinner, they came by several times so by the end of the meal, I must have eaten one of each selection from their tray. The service was impeccable. After they cleared away the table, they came to us with a very nice chocolate cart with good assortments of chocolates. Overall the experience was very good. Will definitely come back again.
Be the first to ReplyWe were there a year ago and went again yesterday.
The food quality and presentation are much much more impressive. Of the three tastings we had recently including Plumedhorse and Chez JT which all are one star Mechelin, O deserves to add another star. It is above both Plumedhorse and Chez TJ. I will let the photos to speak for the restaurant.

Be the first to ReplyO was a delight.
I went with friends for my birthday and had such an enjoyable experience. A couple of the dishes were misses for me, but the menu and service overall outweighed those moments. The wagyu was delicious and rich. I also snuck a bite of my friend's venison and it was quite good. The raviolo was tasty and rich. The caviar was interesting - I thought a lot of the extra aspects distracted from the caviar itself. If I could choose I would just have caviar with blinis, although I did like the caviar with the pureed avocado and tomato. The tomato had a lovely umami flavor. I thought the soft boiled egg was a miss - it just was soft texture upon soft texture, and the sea urchin flavor got lost in there somewhere. The lobster was gristly. That's easy to have happen with lobster, but I would hope that could be avoided when dining out. Where O really delivered was dessert - no surprise considering how good the pâtisserie is downstairs. Flavors, textures, overall just a lovely capstone to the meal. I also have to give props to the sommelier who pointed us to a delicious Blanc des blancs that I had not heard of and was loved by everyone at the table. Overall a fun experience. Looking forward to the next seasonal menu to see what Claude has in store.
Be the first to ReplyWe got the Valentine's Day menu and were quite disappointed
We got the Valentine's Day menu and were quite disappointed with the quality of food. Their regular menu was not very fresh and lacked taste and creativity. We do go to France pretty often and are comparing this restaurant to the food we've had there. This is probably why we have different expectations for Michelin starred French food. They made a special vegetarian menu for me which I would rate as 4/5. The bread was the best part of the meal as were the small pastries at the end. The rest of the meal was not very appetizing. For the over $1000 bill we could have eaten much better French food elsewhere and felt quite ripped off that we chose this restaurant for our special night.
Be the first to ReplyI booked a table for two yesterday for Valentine's Day
I booked a table for two yesterday for Valentine's Day dinner. We parked at the O'Farrell-Ellis Parking Garage, which is right next to the restaurant. I highly suggest parking towards the O'Farrell street side, because the building where the restaurant is located is 2 doors down from the parking garage. We got to the restaurant about 5 mins after our reservation time. Our hostess had to check us in and made us wait for 5-8 mins before we could take the elevator up to the 5th floor to the restaurant. Honestly, this was ok though because the dessert cafe on the left as we entered was open and we were allowed to take a look at the different desserts. I highly suggest you have a reservation time before 8pm so you can take a look at the dessert selection. The cool thing about it is that if you want to order dessert after your dinner, you still have the option to order after the dessert cafe closes as patrons of the restaurant. We were greeted promptly by our server, Karlo, who was absolutely delightful. Luckily, we had an early reservation and we were seated in the corner table of the restaurant, which gave us more room and comfort. I wish the lighting was a little bit brighter, but I understand that they wanted to preserve a more romantic ambiance. My wife and I are not fond of salmon (which was one of the dishes served in the 9 course menu), so I called a few days in advance asking if we could switch to Black Cod instead. They were more than happy to accommodate. All the dishes were really amazing!I would say that the venison could have been slightly less gamey like, but overall nicely done!If I had to pick between the venison and wagyu, I would chose the Wagyu, but luckily my wife and I got to try both.Caviar composition left my tastebuds salivating for a few minutes after they took away the dish. The Black cod was cooked perfectly, and I'm not a fan of most fish dishes, but I wanted more. Raviolo was a literally a food bomb that went off in my mouth. I truly believe this place deserves at least 2 Michelin stars. I've been to multiple Michelin star restaurants and I can honestly say that the whole customer dining experience was worth every penny. Thank you Karlo and Chef Claude for your hospitality!! My wife and I can't wait to come back soon!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a wonderful special occasion dinner.
Each course was presented as a work of art and a true taste treat. Especially loved the White Corn appetizer and the Roasted Black Cod with Matsutake Jus. Wonderful! Not sure if true every night, but this Wednesday Claude Le Tohic was in the kitchen "cooking for us". What a treat! The bread was extraordinary- we selected from a tray and ended up with seven different varieties in our basket. The final dessert course was followed by a dessert cart filled with mini chocolates, macaroons, and fruit treats. The service was the best I have ever experienced. Everyone worked as a team. Service was elegant and efficient yet personal, friendly and welcoming. Upon leaving, we were gifted a bag with our personalized menu and a box of chocolates. We will be back. What a memorable five star experience!

Top in all categories: the food is imaginative and unique without being strange. The service is impeccable without being stuffy... you get the idea. If I was forced to offer " constructive feedback", I would say the music playlist didn't fit the overall vibe. Top meal, top team, amazing food and service. Highly recommended.

4.5 stars. The entry was a bit weird. The lady downstairs only let one table up one by one supposedly because there was no waiting area but there was definitely quite a bit of a waiting area. Wife and I made reservations for a weeknight at 5:30 PM, the time the restaurant opens. The restraint's location is curious. It is in a building which bears the address, 165 O'Farrell St, the first floor of which is a cafeteria-like restaurant. You have to first enter it then go into a corridor on the right to enter an elevator and go to the 5th floor. The elevator was attended by the restaurant hostess. Once inside, O' by Claude Le Tohic is a beautiful, elegant restaurant with comfortable table and chairs and subdued light. We were welcomed by the staff, and seated at a very comfortable corner table. We chose the five course tasting menu. In a word, the food was exquisitely prepared and served, with delicate flavor and taste. We were also impressed by the quality and variety of their baked goods served - bread, croissants, brioche, etc. They have an extensive wine list. We had kir royale which was excellent, and wife had a glass of chardonnay which was crisp and to her liking, and I had their "grand gimlet" which was good and interesting. It was good to know that they can make regular cocktails such as my favorite Tangueray martini. Unlike some other more highly Michelin starred restaurants in San Francisco, the food here was reasonably substantial and we did not feel the desire to supplement the food by stopping at a nearby burger joint. In fact, by the time they brought us the dessert tray containing many different confections, we were quite satiated, and they kindly wrapped our choices to take home. The service was exceptionally attentive and professional. Overall, a very satisfying experience for this Michelin starred restaurant. We will definitely be back, and have the nine course tasting menu.
