best dim sum ever
The best dim sum. LOVE this place, run by lovely people and the food is amazing. The Xiao long bao and the Chinese pork and prawn dumplings never miss. Also the scallion soy noodles with braised pork are so amazing, 100% recommend - I come back every time I am near Cambridge

We were told by many people to visit (after checking after our visit it seems none of them had visited but all of them had seen reviews etc.) so queued on a Saturday afternoon for 40 minutes to get a shared melamine table. We got a little irritated by single people in front of us holding seats for larger groups, and people going in to get a takeaway (which with one chef and one host makes your wait for actual food very lengthy). When it eventually arrived the food was ok. Thankfully we had lots of vinegar and soy to provide any flavour. The microwave is the hardest working item in the open kitchen, which may explain the solid fish balls, and some of the chewiest squid I have ever had. Yes, we had the Xiao Long which were quite thick, but again these were just ok… nothing more impressive than I have tried before. They seem to be trying hard, and maybe the huge numbers of people have driven quality down as they try to serve everybody, but this is not a restaurant that you should queue for IMHO.
Be the first to ReplyEven it does have the authentic noodles/dumplings taste... be prepared to wait up to an hour or more...
There seems to be a long line for this noodles and dumplings restaurant the few times I went pass, so I thought, I may give it a try as it must be quite good to sustain a regular queue. In short, noodles have good texture and the dumplings are also tasty (especially outside of China). Wouldn't mind coming back if there was no/shorter queue. The issue here probably is that with a small family run restaurant (husband and wife I presume), everything has to be hand made from scratch (hence the authenticity and quality is there), and as customers try to get a table in this small 15 seating venue, the queue builds up very quickly. We actually went off peak hours for lunch and we still waited for an hour. If time and wait is not of any concern, it's a good place to soothe your craving for Chinese noodles and dumplings. Kindly note they close 2 days a week (Mon & Tues) and I went once on a day when they were closed.. hence no queue...
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite Cambridge restaurant
Nestled on Mill Road, Cambridge, Noodle Plus quickly became my favorite dining spot during my stay in the city. This small, cozy restaurant, with just one chef and one server, offers an exclusive dining experience. Despite its limited seating and operating hours, the place is always buzzing with customers, a testament to its exceptional quality. The atmosphere inside is intimate and unique, making every visit special. The restaurant's size adds to its charm, creating a warm and welcoming environment. It's more than just a place to eat; it's a culinary adventure where each dish is crafted with care and passion. Noodle Plus is undoubtedly a must-visit for anyone in Cambridge. Its popularity, despite its small size, speaks volumes about the quality of food and service. It remains my unbeatable favorite in Cambridge, a place I hope will expand in the future while retaining its special character!

I was staying across the street. I noticed just one restaurant of the many on Mill Rd had a queue of people waiting. Always a good sign. I grew up in San Francisco, a city of noodle shops. Nothing about Noodles Plus will disappoint. Try especially the Shanghai dumplings stuffed with soup. Then try everything else. My only complaint: the restaurant is stubbornly “cash only.” Across England I noticed a baffling insistence on “cards only” (excuse me, but aren’t fivers and tenners legal tender in the UK?). This was the only restaurant that demanded cash. Fortunately, there is an ATM just down the Street.

Superb Xiao Long Bao and beef brisket noodles. Excellent chicken. Nice custard buns. Food freshly made and steamed. Good price as well. There’s a quite a queue so make sure you are not in a rush.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem
Ordered dumplings as take away and literally seen them being freshly made. It's true, you have to wait a bit, but it is worth it. The owners are very nice and friendly. It's a hidden gem.
Be the first to ReplyAbysmal service, not worth the wait or the hype.
Abysmal service. We thought the queue was short (one person). Waited for one hour, having been told repeatedly ‘just a few minutes’. Then waited another hour for food to arrive. They serve the takeaways before in-restaurant customers. As for the food itself: noodles were OK, as expected for (frozen) hand-made noodles. Carrot completely undercooked. Similarly: broccoli painfully undercooked, rough and unpleasant to eat. Mediocre vegetable dumplings. Xiao lung bao: filling v nice, though thick skin.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the long Queue
Unpretentious, small and very popular place. Be ready to stand in a queue for at least 20-30 mins to get in but totally worth it. The xiaolong bao (soup dumplings) is so tasty and most dishes are priced at £6-7/ portion.

Finally got in here, and so glad we did. Arrived at 11.45 and there was a queue of 6 people already. There is seating in the cramped dining area for 16 people. The food though is worth everything. Absolutely amazing. The dumplings will have you ordering more, the noodle dish with ribs, fantastic. Each dish that came out had us wishing we had ordered that one. Be advised that ,we arrived at 11.45, it opens at 12.00. 12.05 the restaurant was full and a queue forming outside. Food arrived 12.30, a bit of a wait, but really, it was worth it. Great prices too. When we left there were about 12 people outside waiting to come in. Would we return, certainly, if we could get in.

Food is meant to be amazing but waited for 40 mins without even being served a cup of tea - having waited in queue before that. Left before having even been acknowledged. I don't understand why they accept takeaways when there was only 2 of them. Maybe best to go in off-peak hours.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t waste your time!!!
Have been trying to come here for the last three days as we have heard good things but every time we make the 20 minute journey, they have been shut with no explanation, with the same sign saying they will be open the next day. We have tried to ring up to confirm if they are open or not so we don’t waste our time but no answer. Not going to bother anymore, there’s plenty of other noodle places in Cambridge with reliable hours!
Be the first to ReplyDon't bother if you don't have 3 hours to spare
We waited for an hour and a half just to be seated. In that time, customers that were already there hadn't been served yet. Once in we tried to order and got ignored. Besides, a woman next to us kept coughing her soul out and we decided to leave. Health is more important than a meal, however good. Been here tonight. Attracted by the queue and a clientele of mostly native people. Heard it was really good and prices are really low. Unfortunately the owners can't handle customers. They should hire at least another person, as one of the owners is cleaning, tending to new clients, handling take away and also helping in the kitchen. Of course service can't be that good once a person is stretched on so many tasks. I would gladly pay more to be able to eat here. Unfortunately I couldn't. My suggestion is that if you find it empty you shoukd definitely try it but if there's a queue don't even bother unless you have three hours to spare.
Be the first to ReplyBest Chinese food I’ve ever had
This place is amazing! You have to try to xiao long bao soup dumplings, and the beef brisket noodles were to die for. So reasonably priced (a huge huge meal for 2 with drinks and starters and mains was only £27) and the food is the best I’ve eaten in Cambridge.
Be the first to ReplyDo not miss
Best Chinese food you'll find in the UK. Xiao Long Bao are just as good as the FT review suggests. Lovely owners and great prices.
As some reviews cite, the shop is quite small and it is only the husband and wife working there. Therefore, it is best to try and get there outside of 'peak times'. But if you do find a queue, it is 100% worth the wait.
Incredible xiao long baos quality and price
The xiao long bao was incredible, thin translucent skin and very juicy soup. The noodles were silky smooth and had a good chew. The prices are very cheap and I wish this restaurant all the best as it serves excellent food at affordable prices. The food is 5 star however due to there being a wait then I reduced it by one star.
The restaurant is very popular amongst locals and I look forward to the day that they expand to a bigger venue so they have more table. The waitress was was very sweet and polite whilst we could see the chef hand making everything behind the kitchen counter.
Fabulous Siu long bao and steam dumpling
Soft and tasty homemade steam dumpling, juicy and tasty homemade Siu long bau. The food make fresh and came very fast.
Be the first to ReplyWaiting more then 2 hours and for what?
waited a long time to get my table and order my food and then waited a long time for my drink! in the meantime customers came in to order takeway and are served before me it's not right! the food is good but you can't wait that long. the staff i think is wife and husband are not enough! they neglect customers! I am a cook standing near the kitchen watching and waiting so long you see the chef serving frozen dumblings! they serve the dumblings in the same containers where they are steamed they served other customers without washing I'm sorry so I saw it with my own eyes! they have containers of vegetables and stock not in the refrigerators all at hand for cooking unfortunately they do not respect hygiene and safety !! I saw they rinsed dishes and glasses without being washed! good luck you won't see me again!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food!
I've been to Noodle Plus a handful of times now and I cannot recommend it more! The Xiao Long Bao is to die for. The food is authentic and definitely worth the price. I've been recommending Noodle Plus to all my friends visiting Cambridge and they have also enjoyed it. My favourite dishes are the XLB, zha jiang mian (noodles in soybean paste) and steamed chicken in chilli oil.
It is a family run small restaurant so expect to wait for a bit for food to prepared but it will all be worth it!
Can't wait to go again
Absolutely amazing food and great value for money.
The only problem is that I wish had space for more.
Hand-made noodles and dumpling dough, can see the chef work his magic while you eat.
Best Chinese food EVER!
I'm still here eating and had to write a review because the food is perfect. The pork melted in my mouth , the dumplings were brilliantly blended and the service has been great.
Do yourself a favour and get down here, they close at 9.30.
THE BEST Xiao Long Bao ever!
We visit Noodles Plus for a 'Xiao Long Bao fix' regularly. Their Xiao Long Bao is made freshly made to order and honestly it's one of the most authentic and tastiest Xiao Long Bao we've ever had (and very good for value, too). We will definitely be back again very soon!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing hand made dumplings and noodles
Very cozy and friendly place
Loved the hand made dumplings
Highly recommend the Xiao Long Bao, it was very juicy
Also had the beef brisket noodles in shallot oil and soya sauce, the noodles were also hand made and the beef brisket was very delicious. Am drooling thinking about the meal while writing this :p
