I paid for my son and his gf for a special occasion.
They were so excited to go. They enjoyed the experience and the food. They ordered the Wagyu beef and said it wasn't good. The next day they were both very ill all day from the food. I contacted them to let them know and the manager was like I will need a couple of days to investigate and talk to others. It felt like she didn't believe me. Disappointed in the food and the response to my complaint in regards to them being so sick. Should report to department of health.

A Culinary Masterpiece with One Small Hiccup Dining at Nobu is always an experience, and my recent visit was no exception. Let's start with the ambiance, sleek, sophisticated, and worthy of its reputation. The service, however, brought a slightly odd energy to the table. While professional, the servers and bussers seemed somewhat detached, creating an atmosphere that didn't quite match the luxuriousness of the venue. But oh, the food! As expected, Nobu delivered culinary excellence with nearly every dish. The bigeye tuna and tartar was divine, fresh, perfectly seasoned, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And the yellowtail jalapeño? Absolutely mandatory! The delicate balance of heat and buttery fish showcases why this is a signature dish. If you're deciding on appetizers, those two should be non-negotiable. The rest of the menu continued to impress with its precision and flavor complexity that Nobu is renowned for. There was, however, one notable disappointment: the rock shrimp. We initially ordered the creamy version, which was surprisingly unappetizing. When we mentioned this, they offered to swap it for the miso version, but somehow that arrived soggy and even less enjoyable. It was like finding a single gray cloud in an otherwise perfect blue sky. Despite this minor setback, Nobu remains a pinnacle of Japanese fusion cuisine. The artistry on each plate, the quality of ingredients, and the way flavors dance together make it worth every penny. Just maybe skip the rock shrimp next time!

This is the 3rd different Nobu I've been to(NY and LV) and here are my pros v cons: CONS: 1. Came here for a birthday dinner at 6pm. We checked in and immediately the hostess tells us we have a 2hr max since our same table was reserved for another dinner party at 8pm. What is this a KBBQ and/or a buffet?! Now we have time limits?! Told the hostess that depends on you and how fast the food is served. Already put a sour taste in my mouth; 2. The inside is small w/only a hand full of tables and a bar. No need for the DJ and put more tables in; 3. We were sat next to a big party of girls who were loud. They acted like they were the only ones there. Completely rude and we were not able to change tables; 4. Some of the staff here are completely rude and unhelpful; 5. Absolutely ridiculous that valet costs $30; 6. And lastly, not even a courtesy dessert for someone's birthday when we spent over $500?! C'mon Nobu, pathetic. PROS: 1. The sushi and appetizers were overall pretty good. The best item was the black cod miso and the yellowtail jalapeno dishes. The nigiri had all really fresh fish especially the tuna, salmon and scallops. Did not like the caviar tuna tartare(very small for the price and not that great); 2. Our server was pretty good but was ghost most of the time. When he did come around, he was courtesy and nice; The food is the selling point but good sushi can be found throughout Costa Mesa and Irvine. For the CONS mentioned above, we will not be returning to this Nobu and get our sushi elsewhere.

Sept 6, 2025 - So completely disappointed in a birthday meal for my wife and kids. We were seated upstairs outside. The service was slow and the overtaxed waiter was impatient with us most of the time. The sushi and sashimi quality does not even come close to warranting the price premium. Over $500 for a meal where most of the fish was mediocre in presentation, flavor and taste. We also ordered a Hot dish, which was served lukewarm. I would not go back. It's an absolute waste of money and time.

After having Nobu in Japan I wanted to see how the ones in the states hold up to the original. The location was next to the water with a good breeze comming in. The reception was fair and easy to get in with reservation. I felt the food wasn't as desirable for the price I had to pay for everything. Feels like they were catering to the locals instead of showcasing the original tastes. The wagyu burger and snow crab with masago were tasty. The sea bass by itself was good, but I felt the lemon sauce and miso crust might have been too strong and over-powered the natural flavor of the sea bass. The sushi was simple and tasted like sushi you find anywhere. The music didn't fit the theme of the restaurant and felt very off putting. I would go back to Nobu in Tokyo, but not sure I would come back to this one.

This place was amazing!! I came here with my boyfriend for our three-year anniversary, and the service was excellent. The restaurant itself was beautiful and modern, and our table was upstairs on the outdoor deck. It was nicely shaded, making it comfortable. One thoughtful detail was that our server asked if we preferred black napkins instead of white since we were both wearing black, so we wouldn't get lint on our clothes. Throughout the evening, the staff was attentive, constantly clearing plates and even wiping away water spots from the table. For drinks, we ordered the spicy lemonade mocktail, which had a great kick but stayed balanced, and the strawberry yuzu Calpico mocktail, which was refreshing and flavorful. Both were excellent choices. The food was definitely the highlight. The spicy tuna crispy rice was generously topped with fresh fish. The oysters came with two sauces--one citrusy, the other with cilantro and chili crunch--both absolutely delicious. The miso cod was tender and packed with rich umami flavor. And of course, the sushi was outstanding. The spicy scallop roll had big, flavorful chunks of scallop with just the right amount of spice, and the yellowtail jalapeño cut roll was perfect. Overall, this is a fantastic spot for a special occasion. It is on the pricier side, but completely worth it for the experience, service, and quality of the food. I would definitely recommend it!

we came during happy hour (which was only like 10 items) and we ordered a few things. we started with the bao buns (heard they were new) and they were okay and probably wouldn't get again. 6/10. for my drink i got the strawberry yuzu calpico mocktail. it was really yummy but not worth the price ($12) for a nonalcoholic drink. for my rolls i got one california roll ($21) and one baked crab roll ($22) and i think they were only 6 pieces. the california roll was very okay. i have had way better for way cheaper. 4/10 would not get again here. the baked crab was super yummy and i wouldn't get again! 8/10. i also got the roasted cauliflower which i really enjoyed!! 9/10. for dessert we got the date cake and it was the best thing we had BY FAR. 10/10 would get every single time i came here. our waiter was pretty attentive but for how nice nobu (from what i heard) is i honestly expected more. at the end he double charged us for 3 items, we pointed it out and he only removed one of them. by the time we noticed we had already paid so that was unfortunate to over pay for a meal that was already overpriced. i am not sure how often we will be back and didn't understand the hype overall of this place.

Ordered oysters , Chilean sea bass with dry miso , baked crab sushi and yellowtail jalapeño sushi! The summer dragon drink was delicious. My ONLY ick was the bathroom. It was DISGUSTING. Toilet paper all over the floor , roll empty but plenty in the holder on the side of the toilet. Mirrors foggy like it's humid and wet. Just gross. Overall amazing dinner just a big turnoff

dressy casual, nice vibe (a bit dark), wait staff could be a bit more attentive (water refill), but were friendly. Normal Nobu menu, and Nobu buzz. Yes Nobu standards and pricey, but quality is good. Make a reservation well in advance.
Great time
Always hesitant to go the chain route over a small family owned place. But this is a great location right on the harbor and our server was on the ball and attentive. We had several things from the miso cod lettuce wraps to the scallop sashimi. Also had a salmon roll and a very unique salad with grilled shiitake mushrooms. Was it pricey? Sure but not excessive for the quality. When visiting the area will return. We have been to other Nobu around the country and not all are as good as this location

Beautiful view. Service was perfect. Drinks & food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be coming back to enjoy another dinner.

Newport beach is awesome, very nice clean town, very boujee people all around, Nobu no different. What this means is if YOU are not boujee, then service not so good, money is the same and for the price?????? would rather have Sushi else where, drinks super expensive, although they have to make rent so understandable. Oh yeah views are awesome!!!! they should advertise as additional cost since sitting on patio overlooking Marina is for all the boujee people.
As Usual, Nobu Does Not Disappoint
Nobu never disappoints. While the menu is the same from Nobu to Nobu....it is wonderful. Service was very good. People watching was great. If you have not been before...listen to the server. Let them guide you from start to finish. You cannot go wrong.

Terrible! Not even one Hour after sitting having lunch - the hostess came up and brought the check asking us we need to leave because she needs the table for a new guest. While we are still drinking- spent over $300 among 2 people. Hostess need to be educated and more approachable. Not to act like they "Nobu" is doing you a favor by you coming to their restaurant. Very rude this action effected the entire experience - I give 0 review 👎👎

I really don't get the bad reviews. The food is yes, pricey. Duh, it's Nobu. WIth that being said - nobody wants to be taken for a fool. However, I've eaten at this location multiple times and every single time the food is a hit. We only go for special occasions, but it's one of our fave restaurants in OC. The service, the ambiance, the bay views, the food is a solid A. I think the problem with everyone being allowed to leave reviews is that everyone thinks they're a certified food critic, but really - it's what your budget and what your tastes crave and receive. This hits the spot for me, but doesn't mean it's for everybody. If you have reservations about the price - just don't go unless you want to commit.
First and last time
Terrible sushi and overall a poor dining experience. Made a reservation for birthday and got stuck in a stuffy deck corner. Food was hit or miss, sushi was a miss. Don’t fall for their “tastings” and let them pick for you.. $600+ later and the wagyu beef was fatty! First time and last time.

I have eaten at Nobu Restaurants and stayed at Nobu Hotels around the globe and have always been impressed by the consistent excellence... While it is true that the sushi is very expensive, I have found none better in my travels. So, it was with great excitement that we celebrated a family birthday at Nobu Newport Beach today... Would the atmosphere be as vibrant as Nobu Malibu? Would it be better than Nobu Atlanta or Nobu Las Vegas? Let's find out!!! Sadly, while the food is 5 star, everything else is somewhere between a 2 and a 4. Tuna Tacos... Check! A+ Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice... Check! A+ Edamame... Check! A+ Miso Soup... Check! A+ Cut Rolls... Check! A+ Be sure to ask what rolls are off the menu... we had one today with cucumber on the inside and a delightful white fish on top... I would share the name with you but no one is answering the phone at Nobu... 8pm on a Saturday night... The automated message says the restaurant is closed... which it is not. Tempura Vegetables... Check! 3-4 stars because they were a bit oily. Miso Cod... Check! A+ Bento Box Dessert Tray with Green Tea and Vanilla Gelato... Check! A+ So why not a 5-Star? 1) The building is worn and not well maintained... see my photo of the men's room door... are you kidding me??? In a restaurant that easily costs well over $150 per person??? 2) The parking. There is very little, the valet can add up to $50 per car, NOBU does NOT Validate and the valet station is so small it can only handle one car at a time. Based on these items, probably should have only given a 3-star review... but the food was SOOOOOOO good I had to go with 4-Stars!

Terrible service! On a date and only one of two meals ordered was brought out - the other never did. After 15 min, inquired about missing meal. Informed that the other kitchen was behind. Concern regarding meals brought out at different times brought to the attention a second server. Completely blown off. No additional drinks offered by either server. Worst service - not busy - servers were standing around chatting and not paying any attention to guests. Highly recommend not wasting your time on this restaurant.

The restaurant had two different songs playing at the same time and it was really unsettling. This place is just full of obnoxious people that don't care about personal space and only care about taking photos. the restaurant is all hype only and I don't know why. It's all over priced.

came in on a tuesday evening for my anniversary & our server, kyle, took very good care of us. all the other staff members were also very kind & great. we ordered a total of 3 cold dishes, 2 hot dishes, & 1 sushi. everything tasted phenomenal but the best dish was the japanese uni nigiri. everything took quite long to come out but either than that the experience was exceptional :)

Finally made it to Nobu after hearing so many friends rave about it. Was it good? Yes. Was it amazing? Eh. The waitstaff was incredible, working as a team, which I loved. However, the host downstairs could use some improvement, unlike the friendly ones upstairs. Izzy, Lin, and Arisa, you were all 10/10. Thank you for your excellent service, making our first visit nearly perfect. Nearly because I didn't love every dish, though the service was impeccable. Drinks: 10/10 - Nobu Old Fashioned - Mia Margarita Food: 6/10 - Yellowtail Jalapeño - Black Cod with Miso - Scallop Roll - Rock Shrimp Tempura - Prime Filet 'Toban' Yaki (no flavor, don't bother) - Japanese Snapper Dessert: 10/10 - Bento Box - Honey Pistachio Semifreddo

Ruined My Fiance's birthday.
Very disappointed. I told the waiter and wrote in the open table app it was my Fiances birthday. They sat us with a fabulous view of the harbor gave us water and never came back. After 30 minutes I had to ask a bus boy to find our waiter so we could order a cocktail and get the food menus. We ordered desert at the end thinking they would comp an extra dessert of some kid and do something special for the birthday. They did nothing and the waiter told me the cake I ordered was for the birthday that had no candles or nothing. I told him where is the birthday he said that is it. Wow how disappinting. So I went to the manager to complain. She sent a free dessert with one very small candle in it. The waiter presented it and did not even wish my fiance a happy birthday. Again horrible))) I have dined here before and at that dinner it was the same waiter and he was very slow. They seem under staffed and have a bad manager.

I loved the food and it was good portions The bill was $288 for two. We had three drinks, two appetizers and two entrées. View by the water, nice nighttime vibes. $15 valet. Guests are so nice and friendly here. Nice area! The lamb chops were OK but the plate of veggies it came with was so amazing. Asparagus, onion and more! The scallops could've been a little little more warmer, but the flavor was delicious and I kept going back for more. The temporary lobster was the best thing on the plate and a great mouth. The tiger shrimp so juicy and big and I love the sauce it came in.

Don’t go by yourself. When with more than one person service is great. They see bigger tip. Going solo I feel they felt I wouldn’t spend enough. I spent over $200. If I got good service and felt welcome I would have stayed another hour and spent at least $300 more. Nobu’s loss!
The Best Nobu: Nobu Newport Beach
I have always had a fantastic dining experience at Nobu, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The ambiance, service, and food were all exceptional. Nobu Newport Beach is my favorite spot, and their 16 oz Ribeye Toban Yaki and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño are absolutely to die for. If you're looking for a memorable meal with impeccable flavors, Nobu is the place to go.

Food was solid, service super disappointing.
Dinner on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 7:00 pm. All started out well with our server. We were polite and food was delivered in a timely manner. About midway though our service, the server never came back. We ordered another round of drinks and they never arrived. We asked the busboy and he ensured us they were on the way, again they never came. Our waitress walked by our table a number of times. We tried to get her attention, but she just ignored us. Basically her give a sh@! attitude ruined our experience. When you spend that much money at Nobu you expect much better. Will not return there. Such a shame.

We had reservations and were seated right away on the heated/covered patio overlooking the water. Our server was amazing. He was friendly, attentive, and gave us great recommendations on the menu. I spilled a bit of my drink on the table and he noticed from a distance and cleaned it up before I even blinked. Great service. Things we ordered: - Yellowtail sashimi jalapeño: This was my favorite part of the meal. The fish was fresh and the acidity of the sauce complimented it well. - Bigeye and bluefin toro tartare: the tartare was covered in a wasabi sauce that I found to be a little too strong, but my boyfriend loved it. I did love the brininess of the ossetra caviar added to it. - Crispy rice with spicy tuna: you can never go wrong with this at any restaurant. The crispy rice was fried evenly and better than any other ones I've tried, but I don't think it was worth the price. - Wagyu tacos: extremely melt in your mouth tender. It was yummy, but extremelyyyy small. It's bite size and disappeared way too quickly. - Yellowtail scallion roll: a simple roll, but you can really taste how good quality everything is down to the seaweed. - Black cod miso: extremely buttery and melts in your mouth. It's worth the hype. - Chilean sea bass with dry miso: I was excited to try this one, but it was the most disappointing. The fish itself was well cooked and really moist, but the top layer with the dry miso was way too salty. My boyfriend and I had to eat around it. - Bento box: it's a dessert bento box with matcha ice cream and a chocolate lava cake. It was delicious. The matcha flavor was strong in the ice cream instead of like a lot of places where there's just a hint of matcha and all sugar. The lava cake was perfectly gooey on the inside. - Lychee martini: I usually hate cocktails because of the general taste of alcohol , but this one tasted like I was just chomping down on straight lychee on a tropical vacation. I had two of them and was feeling pretty good by the end of dinner. I give it 4 stars. The portion sizes are small, and although it was good, I don't think it was worth it. The Chilean bass with dry miso was also a real miss, and for the price, I'm expecting close to perfect.

Our sever Andrew was very friendly. Overall staff and customer service is impeccable. They recommend doing cold and hot dishes. He was very helpful! Spicy tuna rice cake - had a unique twist bc it was crispy and it was surprisingly good 10/10. The salmon nashi pear -Had a bit of truffle oil (super good), the salmon was great quality and the pear was added which made it crunchy. 8/10 The yellowtail jalapeño -This was one of my favorite dishes 10/10. If you like the citrus flavor, def get this. Monk fish pate with caviar -This was pretty good, but it's something I wouldn't order again. 7/10 Rock shrimp tempura -This also has a citrus flavor to it. The texture is more like a honey walnut shrimp but better. 8/10 Soft shell crab -The server said this wasn't his favorite bc it was wrapped with radish, but I really liked this dish. I would get this again. 10/10 Uni -if you're an Uni lover, I recommend getting this. It's so fresh and yummy. I'm not a fan of Uni but this was one of the best! Fluke -We saw this on IG photos and it looked good, so we tried it. I just remember having the sesame sauce on it. It was bad but it wasn't memorable to me. 7/10 As for dessert, we got the bento box. It came with a lid and they opened it when it arrived to our table. I didn't know it was similar to a molten lava cake, and this was very delicious. Very rich but not too sweet. The matcha ice cream was the best part! I'm not sure if it was gelato or not, but I def recommend this dessert. I'd come back to try out their different dishes and desserts. But this is a place to go to splurge on special occasions. The portions are small so keep that in mind. But overall a great experience from staff to food. Tip They do have valet, but there's a parking structure right across. They can validate your ticket as well.

After years of wanting to try Nobu, it finally happened and I was not disappointed. DISCLAIMER: You're paying for the quality of the food, location, experience, and top notch service, not for portion sizes. They keep them small, which is nice because you get to try a lot of items on their menu. However, if you're not ready to spend at least $200 for a lunch/dinner for two for example, then this is not the restaurant for you. Parking is easy if you go to Lido regularly. Valet was full so we parked in the structure nearby. Give yourself time to find parking esp if you come during peak hours and if you're not familiar with the area, it can be tricky. We had reserved and we showed up a little early, but we were sat down right away. The place was pristine and clean. We had an excellent waiter, he was super professional and very friendly ! The staff here really want you to have a great experience and we def did. Plates were switched out regularly and our waiter made sure everything was running smooth. The yellowtail is unbelievable and it's obvious why it's the most popular item on the menu. The fish has a buttery texture that melts in your mouth, and the sauce is just divine. The burgers are delicious and the meat quality was out of this world. The rolls to me were not what stood out the most on the menu, but they are still top notch quality. The miso soup had huge chunks of tofu that would please anyone who's obsessed with it. If you order the tacos, get ready because they're ridiculously small but oh so good. Spicy tuna cakes were also amazing and were my partners fave thing we ordered besides the yellowtail. The bento box was perfect for two and was the best way to end our meal. The chocolate was not too sweet and the texture was really nice. We left feeling full/satisfied and what we ordered was the perfect amount of food for us. It's def worth the hype and I understand why a lot of celebrities love coming here, it exceeded my expectations. Thanks Nobu!

If you don't want to pay for valet, you can park in the structure across the street. It's pretty pricey, but the food just melts in your mouth and is just so good. The dishes are packed with flavor and send your taste buds into flavor town. FYI for nigiri sushi, they charge per piece. Below is a list of what was ordered. This was my first time ordering a la carte at Nobu and let me share with you my most memorable items on the menu. The lychee martini definitely hit the spot because it wasn't too sweet. Wagyu tacos quite literally melted in my mouth and hand rolls were definitely not to my expectations considering the cost. The seaweed wasn't even crunchy, so the whole hand roll tasted soggy. Definitely get the toro hand roll! The flavors in that hand roll were my favorite. I loved how simplistic everything looked, but the ambience was okay. The music was quite loud considering I was at a work dinner, and though I personally didn't mind, it was hard to hear someone else talking so I definitely wouldn't recommend for a more intimate occasion. The DJ definitely made it seem more so like a night club feel, a stark contrast to the ambience at the Malibu location which I preferred. One thing I will definitely applaud and give credit where it's due is their impeccable service. My friend didn't like her mushroom soup and they gave her the miso instead! Everytime it seemed like our plate was too messy, someone was always there to help us replace it.
Pretty good but Very Overpriced
The food was pretty good but honestly way overpriced. I don’t mind paying fine dining prices for a fine dining meal - but the food was nowhere near that level. Sushi was fresh and nothing was bad, but charging $30 for two tiny Wagyu tacos was akin to taking a bad joke too far.

Poor service from our server Manny. Dont recommend the service from Manny but definitely I recommend Nobu as an highly fine dining restaurant and extraordinary and delicious food.

Nobu-no go
So- I have avoided Nobu everywhere forever until this family trip. We were in Newport Beach and decided to go- let me first say we are a party of 5 and in no way was cost a factor in this review - in fact I don’t know what the final bill was but I am sure over a thousand. Now let’s start from the beginning -reservation easy I did on line and booked for 6 and stated it was a special occasion as we were celebrating our son in law’s and soon to be daughter in law’s birthdays. Arrival - we were sat in the bar area at a table made for 4 for cocktails on a small marble table. We assumed our table just wasn’t ready. They brought over 2 more chairs and then started setting the table- immm no- there was no way 6 people could enjoy a meal here. We asked for a table they said it was too windy outside - there were others out there- what…the waiter was upset about giving up the table we over heard. Plus the table was between a table of parents and kids and both running back and forth - and as another note the restaurant the night before called and said they would need to move our table inside maybe due to wind and asked to push reservation back 30 minutes. No big deal good customer service Finally the manager got us moved and some of the other tables outside were used for others that were there before us. Cocktails - the kids (adults) all enjoyed cocktails I had a nice glass of wine but the non- alcoholic menu (hubby has PBC) was ugh Food- we decided to order a lot and share - so just about 2 of many appetizers and all the “nobu must haves”. And then everyone ordered the sushi they wanted individually. One of the appetizers we all said was stand out. I think the white fish one. Everything else was fine. Have had way better eggplant, cod was fine and the sushi was not near as good as most of our favorite sushi restaurants. We all decided no dessert as we knew we could pop in somewhere on the way home. Prices on the menu were pretty much what I expected and like I said I didn’t see the final bill. No hype - no expectations and so I can not say I was disappointed But been there done that and won’t be back Truthfully I was hoping for really good sushi served correctly- but cold rice! And terrible customer service But our waiter was good Our intention was to order omakase - but didn’t was we all would have gotten the same thing and it was all things on the menu. Oh well.
Way overpriced for a tiny amount of food!
Good food, not great. Great service and great ambience. But… the food was ridiculously small! 4 bites of beef cost $50! The deserts were tiny! The shrimp and lobster was about seven bites of food yet cost $45. This is a pretentious ripoff!
Disappointing Food
Our first time here and our last. The yellow tail appetizer was so salty, it was soaked in soy sauce and tasted like it had an added TBP of salt! The sushi rolls were incredibly small and flavorless. Only thing that was good was crispy rice appetizer. Gave up after 3 rolls and left. We went to hotel & ordered dessert cuz we were still hungry. Maybe you get better food in you're a regular or a celebrity.

* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* EternalAnt36, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* EternalAnt36 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to EternalAnt36 for any questions Peter may have as EternalAnt36 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* EternalAnt36 now uses their connections at Nobu Newport Beach to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If EternalAnt36 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, EternalAnt36 receives the $200 reward which is credited to EternalAnt36's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Nobu Newport Beach!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
