Niku Steakhouse San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Bf surprised me with a reservation at Niku for our
Bf surprised me with a reservation at Niku for our anniversary. Inside was a similar vibe to any steak house but with a semi open kitchen. We sat at the chef's counter and got a front row seat to their steak grilling process. We opted for many dishes to try and surprisingly the wagyu tasting was not our favorite. We tried the A3, A4 & A5 grade. Personally I liked A3 the best because it was less fatty. It just ended up being too much wagyu beef for the two of us and we had to order a salad to eat with it. Hits of the night were the oysters, fried potato and the skewers. Overall had a good dining experience but definitely on the pricy end.
Overall 3/5 Good service and ambiance, food is OK.
This place would be good for date night and they seem to be able to accommodate groups as well. It was easy for us to find parking. Our favorites - Beef tartare - Flatiron steak (surprisingly!) - Crispy potatoes Recommend to skip: - Dungeness crab fried rice - Green asparagus katsu We also opted for the Japanese wagyu tasting because I hadn't had wagyu seared over charcoal before. We opted for the a3 & a4 tastings. Unfortunately they were both extremely disappointing and came out (surprisingly) tough to chew, sadly. It was not our favorite of the night and we were really disappointed considering the price point and we figured that is what they're known for. Our server recommended the flatiron steak to us and surprisingly it was more tender than the wagyu and was our favorite of the night! Highly recommend to try the flatiron steak, potatoes and beef tartare dishes.
Wow what a phenomenal dinner.
We came here to celebrate our anniversary. The experience was top notch from start to finish. Granted they do have 1 Michelin Star. The spirits list was extensive - so many Japanese whiskeys to choose from! The service was very attentive. Every dish was delicious! The presentation was beautiful. Highly recommend for a special occasion! What we ordered: Steak tartare House Parker rolls Crispy Potato Crispy pig ears Westholme Short rib
My wife and I celebrated our 17 year wedding anniversary
My wife and I celebrated our 17 year wedding anniversary and I took her to Niku. I have been looking at this place for months and I am so glad I brought her on our special occasion. They took care of us. The server brought us complimentary champagne along with a card. So nice and special. Each bite of our food was spectacular. The food was so good, I got emotional. It is so hard to explain that good could make a person feel so good that they get emotional. I think it was because of the care and dedication this entire team strives for when prepping the meals, getting the food ready for service, etc. even so much as what the owner does to select the meats. This is phenomenal. I worked a lot of overtime to pay for this meal but it was worth every single penny. I'm not rich and very rarely have any fine dining but this is by far, the best experience me and my wife has ever had. We will for sure be back again.

We sat at the chefs table and it was an amazing experience, I don't think steak will be the same anywhere else after this. We had the wagyu charcuterie, which melted in our mouths. We got the crispy potatoes side, and its wagyu butter was light yet flavorful, potatoes were perfectly thin and crisped. We had the wagyu tomahawk medium (I would recommend the medium rare) but the steak was perfectly made. Service was very attentive. We ended it with a light desert.
Very pricey steakhouse.
Legit marbled wagyu steaks here with good flavor! We got the 16 oz ribeye and the 6 oz A5 wagyu steak They cooked the steaks over an open ember roasting grill which was angled, I wasn't sure why they would do that since all the juicy fat goes down into a tray at the bottom, kind of like a George Foreman grill. I would have liked it cooked in an iron skillet so it cooked more in the fat and juices, because it was missing the crispy crust normally on a steak. Perhaps I should have gone with the flat iron steak instead? Music: not too loud in here, they were playing pop music. My wife and I really liked the A5 bushu-gyu Wagyu steak. I don't think I liked the ribeye the way it was cooked. I really like the crusted seasoned iron skillet over the ember roasted grill. The roasted pig ears were a great appetizer. Crunchy and sweet. I highly recommend it. The bone marrow was really delicious too. I highly recommend it. The service was excellent and waiter was very kind. Drinks: My wife got the number 9, and I got the old fashion. Which we both really liked Restrooms: there are two stalls, and a shared handwashing station. It was very clean and well stocked.
We loved the corn tortellini appetizer with black perigold
We loved the corn tortellini appetizer with black perigold truffles. The steak was cooked perfectly and it was fun to watch them cook at the counter seats. The broccolini side was one of the better ones I've had recently. I'm not a huge fan of risotto and the staff was so sweet after noticing I didn't eat it. As a kind gesture l, they brought out a whole buffet of ice creams for dessert which was totally not necessary but so fun! Really great service and a fun special occasion restaurant. crispy pig ears chili de arbol, fish caramel sauce, cilantro leaves & flowers, alliums 19 japanese butterfish smoked tare, grilled gai lan, koshihikari risotto 55 44 farms ribeye 120 grilled broccolini smoked mussel bagna cauda, crispy chicken skin 17 Corn tortellini?
Dearest Reader, Returning to Niku Steakhouse for the
Dearest Reader, Returning to Niku Steakhouse for the second time, I was once again captivated by the impeccable dining experience that defines this Michelin-starred establishment. The ambiance, a seamless blend of modern elegance and intimate comfort, sets the stage for a culinary journey that delights all the senses. The service was exemplary, with staff demonstrating an exceptional knowledge of the menu and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Each course, crafted with precision and presented with artistry, showcased the restaurant's dedication to quality and innovation. The steak, undoubtedly the star of the show, was cooked to perfection, offering a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that was complemented by a depth of flavor only achievable through expert aging and preparation techniques. Accompanying dishes, from the exquisitely seasoned sides to the thoughtfully curated sauces, enhanced the overall experience, creating a symphony of tastes and textures. I had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of Maison Roche de Bellene Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2020, which paired exquisitely with the tomahawk steak. The wine's complex notes of dark cherry and subtle spice harmonized beautifully with the rich, savory flavors of the meat, elevating the dining experience to new heights. The wine list, robust and thoughtfully selected, paired beautifully with the meal, elevating each bite and enhancing the dining experience. It's clear that Niku Steakhouse is not just a place to eat, but a destination for those seeking a refined and memorable gastronomic adventure. Niku Steakhouse continues to impress, solidifying its reputation as a premier dining venue worthy of its Michelin star.
Had my birthday dinner at this restaurant last night.
We had an amazing time. Superb food and service!
This was an amazing experience.
We were well taken care of. I cannot say enough about the service. The food was spectacular. Every dish was perfect and the Tomahawk was exceptional. We are going back for sure. Thank you Niku!! Michael
I came here to celebrate my anniversary and it was one of
I came here to celebrate my anniversary and it was one of the best experiences! We sat at the chef's counter and was able to watch as they made all the food. We were given a little card, a mocktail, and a little appetizer - their take on avocado toast, as a welcome gift for our anniversary which was so cute. We ordered: Beef tartare - 9/10 - the beef tartare had a very nice taste to it, I felt like the niitaka pear really complimented the flavor of the beef. The crispy beef tendon was the perfect pairing for the tartare, it was just very oily. Crispy pig ears - 10/10 - this was my favorite starter!! It was such an interesting take on pig ears, compared to how I've eaten it before. It has a sweet flavor and the crispiness makes it so like you're eating a chip. American wagyu tomahawk - 10/10 - meat was cooked exactly how we asked (medium rare) and it was super tender, the fattiness of it made it super filling. This is A LOT of meat, we did not finish, and took home the leftovers. It was so delicious though. Buckwheat parker house roll - 9/10 - super soft rolls that serves as a great carb to go alongside your choice of meat. We were given a complimentary passionfruit mini cream puff as part of our anniversary celebrations! Overall, the vibe, the food, and the service was amazing! Definitely a spot you must try if you're spending a little more on a fancy night out.
Best steakhouse and service I had in my life ! Tastes from
Best steakhouse and service I had in my life ! Tastes from all around the world cooked to perfection. We took his famous wagyu A3,4&5 and additional rib eye and new york cut. The design is super cool and the vive is unreal. Thank you chef Niku for an unforgettable experience. It was so good I took meat from their butchery next door home to cook the following day :) I would definitely recommend anyone to stop and taste from Nikus experience.
I honestly have no issues here.
A great atmosphere and staff made it comfortable from the start. The drinks were fantastic and the food, specifically the Wagyu Tasting, blew me away. I didn't want it to end but through and through I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would anticipate a higher price tag when coming here but I'd say it's worth it if you love beef/steak like I do.
I would give Niku 11 stars if I could.
I've been to Niku twice and had high expectations since it's a Michelin star steakhouse and they did not disappoint. I love sitting at the chefs counter to watch the chefs work their magic. Each dish is carefully curated and the flavors are always unique but tasteful. The A5 tasting was unbelievably delicious and melted in our mouths. The potatoes are fried in wagyu fat and are increddddible. If you order a steak, they let you pick out your own knife from a variety which is a fun touch. If you have a special occasion or just feel like treating yourself I would highly recommend Niku!
service was stellar.
really good drinks. also really generous wine pours :) tried the ribeye - it was pretty good, nice medium rare. the seasoning was kind of bland though. the crispy potatoes are amazing. I love it! I'll probably try the Wagyu next.
Tbh, i wasn't as impressed w/ this place as I thought I'd
Tbh, i wasn't as impressed w/ this place as I thought I'd be. When I arrived, despite having a reservation, I was told my table wasn't ready but I could wait at the bar. That's fine, but at the bar, nobody approached me to take a drink order or even to offer me a drink menu. I just sat there waiting. Eventually, my table was finally ready and I got to sit down and order a drink. Total time from me arriving until my drink arrived was 27 minutes. Now, this is not the type of thing I usually give a shit about... if i was eating at any normal restaurant, it would be no big deal, but at a Michelin starred place where my dinner for one person ended up costing $700, I expect better. But really, the bigger issue was the steaks. They were good. But... not amazing, I gotta say. I felt like my mind should be blown. Some of the bites were downright stringy. And the steaks seemed under-seasoned as well. the A3 cut was especially not worth it, and didn't really seem all that different then your average run of the mill steak. The A5 was better, but I feel like I was more impressed by the A5 Wagyu I've bought online and pan fried myself. Everything else was delicious. Bone Marrow appetizer was great. The sauce that came with the crispy potatoes was so damn good. Cocktails were good as well. Still though... the main reason for coming here was the steak, and if the steak isn't incredible, no amount of sides is going to fix that.
We came here to celebrate my birthday.
We made reservations ahead of time. Parking is street parking. When we arrived at our table, there was a little birthday note for me. This was very thoughtful of them. We order a variety of things to share. We wanted to try everything, or mostly everything on the menu. Of course we couldn't try everything, that would be too much food for us. We started with the Matsutake soup, that was very delightful. The soup had great flavor. The bone marrow was excellent. Rich in flavor. Next came the prime ribeye and A5 Miyazaki. The server came over with a tray of steal knives for us to choose from to use. That was different and unique. My husband chooses a cleaver looking steak knife. It was pretty big, LOL. Both of the proteins were cooked perfectly to medium rare. The crispy potatoes side was excellent. I wanted more but was too full. We finished with the ginger lemon custard and a free little birthday cupcake. Those were yummy. The service was excellent. They really took care of us. We had a good time.
Overrated
Customer service was good, despite a brief confusion with a restaurant policy. A couple of dishes were worth coming back for, but the food was overrated and overpriced in general. The ambiance had loud music, so it’s hard to hear anyone, including the description of the food.
Food was very good.
Super buttery A5 wagyu with a great presentation by the staff to help us decide which to order. Apps and Sides were good portion. The beef tartar was definitely the favorite thing next to the Wagyu. Very professional staff and a great experience along with the food.

This place was my favorite new fancy restaurant in SF! It's located in the design district right across from the old Zinga building. The vibe was pretty fancy and dark, very intimate small spot. I ordered the bone marrow, the pickled vegetables, the oysters and the 6 oz filet. The steak was honestly the best steak I've ever had! It was nice and crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful inside! It's a Michelin star restaurant which I didn't know when we booked. I wish I had dressed up a little bit more. I felt a little underdressed with my skirt and sweater. The vibe was very hip and younger, playing Dr. Dre and Tupac! It was definitely a modern fancy restaurant and I want to go back! The service was amazing, servers were super friendly. I even got a purse hook for my bag which was a first! And a coat check key for our takeout bag so it doesn't crowd the table. The server knew we had to leave to go to work and brought our dessert out super fast! We got the Brownie ice cream dessert and just the caramel ice cream alone was to die for!
Came here to celebrate a birthday dinner last october and
Came here to celebrate a birthday dinner last october and the food was delicious! Ordered the kusshi oysters, buckwheat parker house rolls, crispy potatoes, prime ribeye, a5 tasting menu, wagyu tsukune, and a couple of other food items i put in the pictures. We ordered way too much food for just 2 people and had a hard time finishing the meats. We clearly could've gone lighter on the sides/apps. Highly recommend ordering another meat in addition to the a5 though since it's super fatty. The service was great -- extremely attentive and kind! But at time it felt like i was receiving a college lecture about different knives and meat cuts and wine. Could be great if you're into that but for us it was a little too dragged out when it could've easily been more condensed. The ambience was really nice and the restaurant was overall really great. Food was delicious (not mind-blowing though but still good) and the two bottles of wine we got were overpriced but paired well with all our food. Overall a good experience but again, the meat was not top tier in terms of taste, just good / decent.
My wife and I had a ton of inKind credit, so we decided to
My wife and I had a ton of inKind credit, so we decided to splurge on Niku. This experience is by far the best service I've experienced in years. We got there when the restaurant opened, and were among the first couple of parties to be seated. All the servers were super attentive. They explained the entire menu and even offered assistance in choosing a steak knife for our meal. Our plates and cutlery were changed with every dish. Our water was refilled regularly. I swear that we were served by 4-5 different waiters. The food is amazing too. We loved every appetizer that we ordered. The oysters were extremely flavorful with some type of smoky sauce. The tartare was creamy, and had the perfect amount of acidity served with light crunchy/puffy chips. The bone marrow was topped with pieces of meat, and was perfect to eat with bread. The wagyu meatballs on the skewer was served with a tare sauce with an egg yolk. It coated the meat perfectly and provided a rich mouthfeel. After eating the potatoes, I'm a little obsessed and want to learn how to make it at home. These are the best potatoes I've had with steak. It's like many layers of thin sliced potatoes that are pressed together and deep fried. The texture is amazing. A bit expense to frequent often, but definitely a great meal to celebrate a nice occasion. I can see myself coming back for an anniversary or birthday.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
