Authentic Portuguese dining created and cared for lovingly by a husband and wife team...delicious specialties of the day.
Be the first to ReplyAgulha no Palheiro really is a needle in a haystack
Agulha no Palheiro really is a needle in a haystack considering how great their food is and how hard it is to find this little tucked away spot. Each dish looks and tastes like a mini work of art! Vegetais Salteando: The vegetables are grilled right to the optimal threshold between crunchy and soft. You can taste the flavors of each of the thinly sliced zucchini, bell peppers, onions, and cabbage. They are also slightly caramelized at the edges. The swirls of yellow mango olive oil and green parsley oil are begging to be mopped up with bread. Lombo de atum c/ batatimhas corada e tomate salteado: Seared tuna is hard to get right. Here the tuna is soft and tender, perhaps silky even. The edges are crisp and nicely seasoned. The tomatoes, onions, and tomatoes are grilled until soft. Pica pau: The steak is medium rare, nicely red to pink, so I'm happy. The mustard seed sauce is sweet and complements the steak as does the mango olive oil and parsley oil. Grelos c/ rabanates e chourico salteados c/ ovo estrelado: Grilled turnip greens and chorizo sausage are crowned with a fried egg.
Be the first to ReplyThis is by far the best meal I've had in Lisbon.
I asked my Airbnb host for a recommendation and she told me this was her favorite restaurant. I tried to make a reservation online but they were fully booked. I decided to try my luck and did a walk in. I was extremely lucky that they had room for me since I was their first customer as soon as they opened. However, the couple who entered after me was turned away since they are a pretty small restaurant. We ordered almost every item on their menu and loved everything. They have a small menu but they perfected each dish.

The food, atmosphere and drinks were all great. The tuna steak was my favorite! This place was recommended to my by a friend and I see why. Reservations are required though they werre able to seat us about an hour before our actual reservation time. I highly recommend it and will be returning whenever I return to Lisbon.
Be the first to ReplyThe best food I had in Portugal and that's saying a lot
The best food I had in Portugal and that's saying a lot cause this trip was one of the worst for meals when you don't like seafood. You won't regret coming here that's a promise. It's good enough that if there was another chance for me to go again I would. The downside is you need a reservation because of how small it is so that's kind of annoying. We showed up without one and were told maybe we could stay if we ate under an hour....then it was well actually 45 mins. Please direct me to any kind of restaurant in Europe that gets the food out and the bill paid in that time frame cause it doesn't happen! So because of all the reviews and the Airbnb recommendation I made a reservation. Anyways the goat cheese with apple pastry was amazing, so good that we ordered it again except it didn't taste as good as the first time. The pica pau was good, the sauce was the best part to soak with bread but I didn't get a picture of it. The meat enchido was ok, had we known it was going to have morcilla we probably wouldn't have ordered it. The middle meat selection has a mixture with flour which texture and taste wise for me I didn't like. But the chorizo and slices were good.

My husband and I had dinner here on a recommendation from our airbnb host and we were very impressed! The restaurant was a tiny place with about 7 tables, so make reservations. The staff was accommodating and helpful, our waitress kindly translated the entire menu to us in English. The food was simple, but elevated and just absolutely delicious. The waitress suggested 3 dishes for 2 people. We started with an amazing fig and mascarpone salad, then a mushroom dish with cornbread crumbs, and finished with a steak with more mushrooms and beautifully cooked potatoes. All the dishes had perfect seasoning and were paired with delicious sauces. The cocktails were also great and we ended the meal with a tasty cottage cheese cake with strawberry and pumpkin sorbets. Our only regret is that we didn't discover this place earlier in our visit. This was the best meal we had in our two week long trip to Lisbon, Zadar, and Florence.
