Musso & Frank Grill Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Been here many times and it has never disappointed.
Food, service, and ambiance are truly exceptional. This place has been here since the early 1900's and it amazes me how it hasn't lost a step.

Musso & Frank Grill is an iconic Hollywood restaurant with major pedigree. Take time to read on its history and the cultural icons that ate here. It will really give you a deep appreciation for this space. Food: For the food, we had a delicious Wedge Salad with bacon, NY steak with grilled broccolini and mashed potatoes. For dessert, I opted for the chocolate mousse cake. For me, the steak was unremarkable (but that's because I do make a great steak at home so it takes a lot to impress me). The grilled broccolini and mashed potatoes were delicious! Ambiance: This evening, I was there for an event and sat in a private room with great AV access. For anyone needing a private room or presentation space, I would definitely recommend Musso & Frank. Definitely 5-star for the service. Waiters were so attentive even with our larger group. The restaurant takes you back into a more glamours time and that to me is worth the experience here. Musso and Franks offers a unique dining experience with very attentive waiters dressed for the event in their burgundy suits. I even noticed there were loads of seating options, from booths to even a front seat view of the grill station. Bottom-Line: I wouldn't be pressed to come here again solely for the steak but I would definitely come back for the old-school Hollywood vibe and a decent meal. The Wedge Salad was generous and tasty. The chocolate mousse cake was excellent. Overall, a great place to visit for a taste of Hollywood history and excellent service. I definitely understand why this place is one several "essential" LA lists.

Well we finally got to try this famous restaurant which has been in several movies and TV shows and recommended by some family friends with a history of operating for over the past 100 years. We didn't know what to expect, nor that the location would be in the middle of gritty Hollywood blvd among the various tourist bars and cantinas. The place does look very historic like stepping back in time in the 1920s. The general crowd is a bit older. The servers are very organized, all wear color coded suits and bow ties and serve the food with military precision. The food it classic American home style food. They even have some odd dishes like veal kidneys. I got onion soup as an appetizer which was good. I got the pot pie which is only served Thursdays and is very rich. My wife got the beef grenadine which she liked. Apple pie for dessert. Overall not a bad meal. The location is the only downside but can't really change that for a restaurant that has been around for over 100 years.
Can't miss LA institution in Dining
Musso & Frank is an LA institution in dining being 119 years old. It lives up to its billing in all areas: Service, Ambience, Food, and Menu. We celebrated my birthday there and I had the Grenadine of Beef and wedge salad and both were outstanding. We split a creme brulee for dessert and it was also outstanding. Highly recommend.
Musso & Frank is a weird little spot.
It's definitely aiming at a classic Hollywood classy establishment vibe, and the guests inside seemed to dress for that atmosphere. Just be warned it is on Hollywood Blvd, which is a pit if you're not familiar with it (I.e. you may not enjoy your walk to and from the restaurant). Our food was well-presented, but nothing to write home about. These felt like "standards" or the type of food you might order for older parents with a certain idea about what 'American' cuisine is like. (But older people might also clutch their pearls on Hollywood Blvd, so keep that in mind). I was a bit disappointed with the drinks, especially after having heard about the Martini and Negroni and one or the other's local/historical reputation. Again, well presented, but not particularly a compelling or well-balanced drink. The martini was this way at least, I think the Negroni was actually pretty poor. On the other hand, my partner ordered the specialty cocktail "Vieux Carré" which we both enjoyed very much. Service was fine if not a little slow, and it happened to be our anniversary, and they were very sweet and accommodating about that, but overall, I would not return.
Impeccable service
Went for my birthday dinner. Paid Valet parking is in the rear. Your waiter will validate your ticket so you'll pay a discounted rate. You enter in the rear and walk to the front host stand. You will be escorted to your table. Your waiter will appear and give you a full run down of items not listed on the menu. If you're there for a special occasion now is the time to mention that. The menu has the current date so you can keep it as a souvenir. They have exclusive items to M&F on the menu, so those will be guaranteed winners. The martinis are strong. The food portions are just right. The desserts are delicious and the coffee is great. Service is impeccable. Your waiter deserves his tip. Atmosphere is old school but expected in a place that opened in 1919. Truly a wonderful experience.
Old Hollywood experience.
Prime rib special was amazing. I couldn't eat it all. That's OK. Take it home. Make a prime rib sandwich the next day. Service is beyond excellent. Be sure to have a classic cocktail to start the meal.
incredible dining experience.
I had an incredible dining experience at Musso & Frank Grill. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was charmingly nostalgic, with a warm and inviting ambiance that transported us to another era. The dishes—Mac n cheese, baked potatoes, mushrooms, chicken, or Turkey A La King—were delicious. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was not only enjoyable but also memorable.

Unfortunately, I can't give zero stars, which is what they wholeheartedly deserve. Food was mediocre at best. Service started out well. Ambiance was exactly as i would have expected. When it came to the check, i handed them gift cards that i bought directly through their website. The cards came with a handwritten thank you letter, which i thought was a nice touch. Then the service went straight downhill. First, the waiter provided us with a small cake (which we didn't even care or asked for) and said Happy Anniversary. We were celebrating AN anniversary but NOT our Wedding anniversary. I guess the waiter assumed I was referring to our wedding date on the reservation. My profile shows that date, so he immediately accused us of lying, as if we really, really wanted that dry, tasteless chocolate cake so much. Maybe his poor mind can't comprehend that there are other types of anniversaries? Next, he said the gift cards didn't work and asked if we already used them. We told him EARLIER that it was our very first time, so it's another moronic assumption. Then a lower manager came and proceeded to throw the restaurant ownership under the bus. He explained that the owner's daughter or niece took care of the gift cards and she might have messed up. His solution was for us to pay the whole bill and IF they think they find that it was their fault, they MIGHT refund me the next time i dined there. This was obviously not acceptable. Finally, a real manager came and decided to honor the very cards they issued. He offered to call me within the week when they investigated the issue. They have yet to call. They know they messed up and never cared to follow up with a call weeks later. I guess it's exactly what i should expect from a classless restaurant with horrible customer service. Their first, second, and third reactions to screwing up is to blame the customer and continue to accuse them of trying to swindle the restaurant. No accountability at all. Whatever made them famous is no longer there.
Great Service, Old School ambience, good food and vibes.
They got it all right! They serve delicious steaks and seafood. I highly recommend it.
Fun group dinner with friends.
They seated us in a corner booth with a view over the dining room. Lively atmosphere on a Wednesday night. Service was brisk and unobtrusive- so nice to experience professional service. Appetizers and entrees were traditional and delicious, cocktails strong and frequent. Loved the stuffed celery and the seafood dishes. We shut the place down- which was politely noted by the flashing of the house lights - sorry guys! We had a great time.

June 2024 - their steaks are great, perfectly cooked but the sides need improvement. Yes it's a historic place several blocks from Hollywood and highland. The place romantic and is dimly lit . People are dressed casually with sone wearing jeans . Not high end at all. For your safety park in the back.

Ooh La La Land! Musso and Frank's really lives up to it's reputation. I've been cooking this review up for a while just because there's so much positive stuff that I have to say about this place. The weight staff were phenomenal. It's not often that you see people that are devoting their entire careers to working in the service industry, but it really does show when someone is a pro at their job. FOOD: You have to get the Filet Mignon. If I say nothing else it's this you have to get the Filet. Yes. Filet. All of their food that we got to try was delicious but OMG the steak. Important details : It's easiest to valet your car parking around there. It is kind of tricky. The bathrooms are very clean and well kept You must make a reservation. I made one the day of and it ended up having to be at 9:30 PM. I called right when they open to see if they had anything earlier and they were completely booked. And this was on a Tuesday.
magnificent & fine dining
We made reservations here for a special dinner on our last night in LA and the night before my birthday (they even gave me a birthday card for an extra special touch). Our server Miguel was top notch and super efficient. The bread was tasty. Our meatball and polenta appetizer was just mediocre as we've had much better meatball appetizers elsewhere. My husband ordered the rib eye steak, which was good. I ordered the turkey a la king, which had huge white meat chunks and some dark shredded meat in a yummy sauce plus pieces of side bread to dip into the remaining sauce. This is a classy restaurant, so PLEASE dress the part or at least pretend you are classy for one night.
What an experience!
Had been trying to get a reservation but had left it too long for our pitstop in Hollywood but luckily checked the night before we wanted to go and managed to nab what I assume was a cancellation! We sat in one of the booths; the atmosphere was something else! Food was fantastic, although the portions are huge so order wisely! We took our leftovers home for the next day! Very much recommended.
Expensive but good steak
We came here after seeing the highly rated reviews from others. The steak was cooked perfectly with a charred outside which really made the steak taste amazing. We shared one portion of fries which were thick cut and very tasty. They almost tasted like English chippy chips. It is a pricy restaurant however you get what you pay for with steak! 🥩
A special experience
It’s hard to find anything original these days, the Musso & Frank Grill is like entering a time machine and experiencing a something special. From the classic and seemingly untouched interior from 1919, the hardworking staff and of course amazing throwback menu, you will not be disappointed, we loved this place.
A visit inside is a step back in to the golden era of Hollywood.
If you want to go to an epicenter of the Hollywood golden era history, Musso & Frank Grill should most definitely be on your list. To compliment the experience, head to a film screening or play at the Egyptian, Pantages or Chinese Theaters following dinner. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance here as it totally books up even on the weeknights as early as 5P. Don't expect to be able to just grab a table by walking in as even the bar/counter service is packed by 5:30P. The interior will take you back to Hollywood circa 1919 as it has never had an interior refurbishment. The service is outstanding and attentive and the menu is traditional steak house. As I don't eat meat, I ordered the Branzino ($40) which was served on a bed of Arugula and topped with roasted pistachio gremolata. It was just OK, not a big win in my opinion. The Wedge Salad ($18) was traditional but also not the best that I've ever had. The baked potato ($14) was as expected and perfectly roasted. The prices lean on the expensive side. Items really add up here including any sauce at ~$9 each which is pretty absurd at a steak place to be honest. A visit here is definitely a must but the return has to be earned. Valet parking located in the rear off Cherokee - 90 minutes validated free and then it jumps to $$$ immediately after. Keep in mind the surrounding area is pretty disgusting - far far far from the golden era of Hollywood. Expect to be greeted by the strangest homeless people on earth complete with strong stench of urine. Yes, welcome to Hollywood where they apparently could care less about image anymore. How sad.

It's a classic in Hollywood! Been coming here for years and won't stop . The food and atmosphere are always on point. You feel like you have stepped in the 1940's . Such an elegant place to eat and drink, perfect for date nights .

Absolutely love this place! Love taking friends and family here to share the history. Consistent, great service, delicious food, awesome cocktails. Looking forward to my next visit already.

My third time here and it was fantastic! From the service to the meal, I can't recommend it highly enough

This restaurant is basically the only reason a local should spend any time on that main stretch of Hollywood Blvd. It is one of the things that makes our town what it is. Oh, and the steak is great too! Go with any of the old-school classics and you won't be mad about it: my favorite sides are the mushrooms and the mashed potatoes.
What can I say always on point.
Enjoyed Donny with 1 other Besties. Started with Real Dirty Martinis extra olives and that great sidecar Ordered Scallops so sweet and delicious with asparagus and potatoes Au gratin delectable!! Friends had rib eye that was amazing and spaghetti Like in Italy. Atmosphere was super exciting and over all always a treat. Unfortunately stayed a little over 3 hours and $14 parking became $25 plus tip. No fun but Now we know park elsewhere or leave without extra drinks and desserts
LA native, first time visiting the restaurant.
It was refreshing to experience nice hospitality from all the staff. Our waiter Benjamin was top notch ~was thorough with his recommendations, attentive to requests and made sure we had a great night! The martinis were strong and a good value (considering the extra serving). We got the ribeye and it was fantastic ~ well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I will definitely be back. Big thanks to Benjamin.
The atmosphere was nostalgic with a feel of classiness.
The Roast Prime Rib Of Beef with a baked potato and Filet Mignon were prepared just to our liking, and the savory sides (Truffled Mac & Cheese and asparagus) were just the right amount of portions to share family style. The waiters were very attentive. Recommend for a special occasion.
It doesn't get any better than this place! After reading
It doesn't get any better than this place! After reading all the reviews our dinner and service was Eblen better than I expected - and I expected a lot. My Martini was perfect, my NY steak was flavorful and just the way I ordered. The accompanying Caesar salad was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and our service couldn't have been better.
Irresponsible Treatment
I had my 71st birthday dinner at Musso this past October. I was particularly excited for this because my birthday is Halloween, and I could not get a reservation on that day for two years prior. Being a native New Yorker steak houses are important to me and Musso had been one of my all-time favorites. Something strange happened on this night. When I pulled into their lot in the rear of the restaurant to valet it was the emptiest, I'd ever seen it. There was a big SUV and one other car at most. I joked with the attendant asking him "Can you squeeze me in". As we walked in, I noticed my car being driven off lot. Didn't make sense to me why with all the available space, but I was at Musso and felt there was no need to worry. The next morning when I noticed the damage on my rear bumper I emailed and then phoned Andrea Scuto the Maitre'd. The response I received was as expected "Don't worry I'll have my parking guy take care of you". Perfect exactly what I expected to hear, and that night the dinner and service did not disappoint either. I never expected to be told it didn't happen and totally blown off. It is the way they did not take responsibility nor do anything at all about the damage they caused to my car that has driven me to write this review. After many emails and calls, ultimately, I was bounced between a few guys at the parking company and basically lied to, made to feel like I was fabricating the story and then blown off. In my opinion when you place something of value in somebodies' possession and they are a reputable establishment you expect much more respectful treatment than this. Be forewarned.
Nostalgic escape from the doldrums of the city
This is a great restaurant. It is old and it feels that way inside - in a good way - nostalgic. The service was excellent. The food was great - the server recommended steaks off the grill so that is what we did, the side of Mac n cheese was superb. They have valet parking odd of Cherokee that is $14 with validation. Even though it is in one of the busiest and most touristy parts of town, it doesn’t feel that way inside. It is a little food escape from the doldrums if the outside world.
Gotta Go Once!
Such an icon in Los Angeles. Go just for the experience! The food is good, not great. The wait staff are friendly and professional. But the atmosphere is old-school Hollywood.
Wonderful, Classic Old Restaurant
Musso & Frank is an old Los Angeles, and specifically Hollywood icon, one of the most significant holdouts of an earlier era in a massive city which has lost so much of its earlier heritage. This restaurant, in business since 1919 and the oldest surviving in Hollywood, has changed very little in aesthetic or cuisine over the years. It has a classic old decor and feel, with bar, counter, partly open kitchen area (where you can see their steaks grilled), and numerous booths and tables. There's a lot of dark wood paneling, old frescoes, and more. We have been here several times and always go here at least once whenever we're in Los Angeles, and we have never been disappointed. Waiters wear red jackets and black bow ties, and have done so for years. They provide excellent service. Food and cocktails are overall excellent and very traditional. This is not fancy or avant garde food, but old-fashioned traditional food done well, with dishes remaining unchanged for decades. We particularly love their steaks, their sweetbreads in sauce meuniere, their baked potatoes, potatoes Lyonnaise, and salads. POrtions are large and given everything, the prices are reasonable. Cocktails, such as the traditional Vieux Carre (our go-to drink there) are excellent. To top it off, this place periodically is used for filming in movies such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Bosch, figuring prominently in both. Fans of those will enjoy that as well.
Classic Hollywood Dining
This is an old classic Hollywood restaurant. Everything we ordered was terrific. Two of us had the prime rib and it was huge and cooked perfectly. One had the oyster stew and it was brimming with plump oysters and was so tasty. The service is perfect. Parking is behind the restaurant and is $14 if you get the ticket validated. Otherwise it is $25. You need reservations because they are very busy.
Charming historic dining experience
Have always wanted to try this restaurant but was a bit worried if it would be worth it. We were pleasantly surprised and loved our meal and the historic dining experience! We were seated in a front booth promptly at our 8:30 reservation time. We were greeted warmly but the front desk too. Classic cocktails arrived promptly. Excellent service and we all enjoyed the meal of prime rib, rib eye, cap of rib eye (delicious and had never heard of before, tender and much more flavorful than fillet minion) and enormous baked potatoes and delicious mushrooms. Steak was perfectly prepared. All in all a nice festive dining experience! Will definitely be back!
Old Hollywood charm!
This is a historic restaurant situated in Hollywood, where you can feel the history of this place and its role in the movie industry. Lot of famous Hollywood types have frequented this place over the decades, given its proximity to where they work. The tomato soup was excellent, and so was the prime rib. The pasta was decent, but not amazing. Enjoyed the dessert and service as well. All in all, this was a great experience!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
