Been dying to try out Mountain Standard for years!! I am ashamed to say that it took us 7 years to finally try out the place when we live just a pass away and are always in Vail. Huge regrets! Regret that it took us that long to finally discover our new go-to place in Vail. Beautiful restaurant, great bar area, amazing crew and delicious food. Not surprised though, all our restaurateur friends in Vail say MS is their favourite restaurant in the area. We've tried Basil and love it too so MS lived up to the standard for sure. Went for dinner and sat at the bar, Mr New Jersey bartender made great recommendations (sorry did not catch your name). Went back 3 days later for lunch and Brian was great. Will definitely be back!!

The menu is a bit limited with small offerings but everything is phenomenal! From the biscuits and pimento cheese to the pork shank and Nutella tiramisu. Spectacular service and tasty food. Drinks were also A+! The ambiance was okay- somewhat quiet when we first arrived but they started playing music which helped with the vibe.
Be the first to ReplyLunch was fantastic as always.
Me and some friends came in for drinks and light apps and boy we were satisfied! I ordered a wonderful pear drink and then the wedge salad and the biscuit. The biscuit was to die for, I HIGHLY recommend. The service was great and everyone there is so friendly. Loved the food and the ambiance once again, can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambience and service from our waitress.
There were some mistakes in which food got brought to us by mistake. We did order the spaghetti dish with seafood but we found it too over seasoned. The family style trout dish could serve 3 and was differently southeastern Asia inspired. Will order again and the highlight.

Super fun and homey feeling restaurant! Both the restaurant and the staff themselves are so inviting and welcoming. Great views of the surrounding snow and right in the middle of so much to do. With all this said, the star of the show is definitely the food! Hands down the best chili I've ever had in my life. The entree was easily just as good. Such a creative menu, with very delicious additions to make a simple dish into a masterpiece. Brad, the server that took care of me was a mastermind with the menu. Explaining that they have close to 100 different menus due to the seasonality! However, I trusted him, told him what I liked, and boy did he not miss. Absolutely sold me on the food and rightfully so. Ps try the Blueberry Pie. Another recommendation from Brad, and wow! As someone who travels every week for work throughout the United States, and eats very well all over, I can confidently say that Mountain Standard is one of the best restaurants that I've ever been too. Between the hospitality, ambiance, and food. Can't wait to come back to Vail!

Great service, Great food and drinks! The atmosphere is cool too especially after skiing or snowboarding.
Be the first to ReplyVery popular restaurant in Vail.
Food is super prepped in advance for fast execution. We ordered and got an intricate entry that was served to us in like five minutes so that was a little disappointing when you don't even have three sips into your drink or time to unwind. The staff is on point, but very pretentious And uppity up and no sense of urgency because they act like they're doing you a favor.
Be the first to ReplyWe had lunch on Ash Wednesday.
We didn't have a reservation, but were seated pretty quickly. Great atmosphere! I had the sweet potato chilli, excellent! I also had the biscuit minus the ham. It was good and would have been even better with the ham. My husband had the endive salad, also excellent. He had the shrimp tamales, which he also enjoyed. The reason for 4 stars, constantly approached by the server and rushed out the door.

Why has no one told me about mountain standard?!? Would I drive to Denver for the pimento cheese and biscuits alone? YES. We came during the In Between menu (between lunch and dinner) so we had limited options, but everyone was insane, so didn't feel like we missed out at alll. The biscuits have jam and prosciutto on them and flaky salt. They were soo fluffy and buttery. I'm sad we only ordered two! The wedge had the best toppings ever with your not-so-standard herb dressing. The pimento cheese is a crowd favorite per our server and I can absolutely see why. Name one thing better than warm pimento cheese with bacon jam on crusty sourdough??? Nothing. Coming back to try everything else. If you're in vail, definitely make a reservation because they're busy!

Upon arriving at Mountain Standard on a Thursday night we were met with a bustling restaurant and a packed bar. Despite the long line at the door we were quickly seated as we had an 815 reservation. Service was very prompt and within a few minutes we had two tasty cocktails in front of us. We asked our server for some menu highlights and he pointed out the Pimento Dip, Bone marrow, pork shank, and trout bo saam. The Bone Marrow and Carparccio was a lot in one dish. We were advised to mix everything together but found that the saltiness of the bone marrow overpowered the Carparccio. Both were delicious but should have been separate appetizers. The Bo Saam was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The crispy trout was perfect for the lettuce wrap and who would have thought a house made buffalo dipping sauce would bring it all together. This was easily a 1 Michelin star dish. Unfortunately, we were so full we ended up not getting desert. Definitely expensive but in line with other top restaurants in Vail. I would happily return.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was legit.
The chef made a veggie friendly dish that should be top of the menu!! Service great, drinks great, food great, ambiance great!
Be the first to ReplyMy steak was really good.
So were the mashed potatos on the bone. Drinks were good. Never had an empty glass of water and went through a whole bottle.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
Beautiful atmosphere. Phenomenal service. My husband and I have dined at several restaurants in Vail and I would say this competes for being the best restaurant. Everything about this place is 5 star.Accepted walk-ins at 5pm came in clutch as we had wanted to try this restaurant, but it's tough to get a reservation. A very thoughtful menu with food crafted in a very intelligent way. Overall delicious food and very well presented. The selection of food is stellar. They have some things on the menu that are really hard to find, like bone marrow. The bone marrow is incredible.. this is a must order. Their shrimp and grits dish was amazing. We are 100% coming back here every time we visit Vail.

Had an absolutely wonderful meal at Mountain Standard this is my new favorite restaurant in Vail! The food and atmosphere are perfect for a nice meal after a long day on the mountain. For some reason I had never gotten around to trying bone marrow and this was my first time ever eating it. I definitely chose the right spot because the bone marrow here was melt in your mouth amazing! After that we ate the shrimp and grits which were lovely nice and creamy with a perfect balance of spices! I wish we we're hungrier because they had a bunch of other dishes I'm dying to try once I go back!

In a time where it's hard to find service staff, this place and their staff blew us away. The only thing better than their Amazing service, is their food. Even their onion rings (which I was expecting just to be normal) were killer. The flavor profile of everything was off the chart. When the kids rate the Super Cheesy Mac as top 5 dishes ever, and another kids gets Wagyu Picanha Steak, you know the kids are getting spoiled here. The flavors this place delivers makes it a must visit.

The Mountain Standard gives a contemperary take on American food and is restaurant worth your visit. This was recommended to us before we got to Vail so you'll want to get a reservation far in advance. Mountain Standard has been in Vail for over 10 years and Mountain Standard shares the same owners as Sweet Basil. I enjoyed the dining experience. The only downside was a rowdy table next to ours but sometimes that is how it goes. We shared the smoked short rib empanadas, rotisserie chicken salad, the smoked short rib char siu as an entree with a glass of Malbec. I had to have the buttermilk sea salt biscuit as it was recommended by friends before the visit and it didn't disappoint. The presentation of the dishes were enjoyable and entertaining. When ordering it didn't feel like a lot of food but walked away satiated with no room for dessert. It's on the pricier side but on par for Vail.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were excellent.
The owner was working and is a fantastic gentleman. We came with 21 people for lunch on a ski day, and the whole MS team delivered.

Food, service, drinks and ambiance were all outstanding! I would highly recommend and I would come back again when in Vail!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great service.
Saw a couple Karen's complain to their servers and it was handled politely and quickly. If you wanted to go and share a bunch of food over drinks, this is the spot.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant with good food, drinks and service.
My husband and I came twice during our trip and they did not disappoint. Thank you for the great service and quality chefs!
Be the first to ReplyThis was a fun spot in vail.
We got lucky and got a seat at the bar which I love. The food was fantastic and the people watching was even better.
Be the first to ReplyI was looking back at photos and notes I made from prior
I was looking back at photos and notes I made from prior trips to Vail and the food seemed to be of better quality and consistency. The service is ok and reasonably attentive but I wouldn't describe it as friendly. The chicken sandwich was interesting but lacking real character given all the ingredients they were inserting to make it a creative and interesting experience. It was better on prior visits. The drinks were inconsistent depending on the bartender which isn't acceptable for a higher brow venue. The whiskey bacon onion soup was tasty but lacking sufficient broth and onions. It was filled with more bread than broth it seemed. It was hearty, but made a better photo than "meal." The onion rings and the zesty ketchup were definitely the winners among the crowd of options. My last comment is that if you have any allergies, this isn't the place for you. The person who joined me essentially couldn't eat anything but a hamburger with nothing on it but lettuce, ketchup, and pickles. Just about everything has gluten, egg or dairy and even the oil is apparently peanut so if you have a nut allergy, you can't have the fries. Just a tip in case you go there expecting them to be able to work around any issues. I'd suggest it's fine for an afternoon cocktail or a snack, but the food photographs better than it tastes. This is unfortunate given that it definitely was better in the first months after it opened. Note that I tried it twice this trip and both experiences were the same.
Be the first to ReplyWe were really looking forward to trying this place based
We were really looking forward to trying this place based on a friend's review, but unfortunately had a somewhat disappointing experience as far as service with the manager. It's a loud and busy popular place. Our party of four was seated right away with our reservation on a Saturday evening. Our waiter was very polite and when we asked about wines, he said he wasn't too familiar with them and said he would be happy to grab his manager, who is a sommelier. We said it wasn't necessary, but he was so gracious and said he would grab her. The manager on duty came to our table 15 minutes later and surprisingly was curt and disinterested when we only asked a couple questions to help us chose our wine. We felt like we were a bother to ask questions to someone that is supposed to be trained to be skilled in wine theory and table-side service. The grilled mahi mahi and the Angus steak both had great flavor and the meal itself was delicious, but the experience with the somm/manager on duty had us disappointed when we left.
Be the first to ReplyEmpanada appetizer was delicious--I could have eaten
Empanada appetizer was delicious--I could have eaten several of those! I also got the wedge salad, with prosciutto and fennel I believe, a slice of avocado. The guys enjoyed their short rib and fried rice--short rib was tender and absolutely delicious. It was pricey but it's also Vail, I'd recommend this place for some good food. Ambiance is lovely, not too loud and great decor/feeling. Our waiter was great as well as one of the managers who was going around and making sure everything was good. Lastly, they allowed us a table without a reservation as long as we were up and out by a specific reservation time, which was plenty of time (we got up with 20 min to spare to be polite).

One of my favorite places we ate on on my recent trip to vail. There was a little bit of a wait probably around 15 minutes even though we had a reservation but the manger was great and got us drinks why we waited that were on the house. For appetizers we got the chips and dips which is like an elevated French inion dip and the Ahi tuna from the raw bar. Both were really great, loved the elevated version of a classic dip and the tuna was light and fresh. For the main I got the short rib and this was the star of the meal. it was delicious the meat fell off the bone and had a great sauce. The fried rice was a great addition as well, only wish there was more. We had ordered another round of drinks right before out meal came but they didn't show up until after we were almost done with the meal. Loved the atmosphere as well if was kind of up scale casual which is appreciated at a vacation spot where your not really packing for something to fancy. Would definitely revisit if we went to vail again.
