This is the promenade in front of the M+ Museum and other attractions at Art Park in the West Kowloon Culture District, not to be confused with the world famous TST Promenade on the southern tip of the peninsula. The West Kowloon Promenade actually opened back in 2005 but was mostly a dud for the first decade as the city struggled to execute the construction of the various museums and park attractions that would make up West Kowloon. However, over the past couple of years, we have seen these overdue attractions finally begin to come to fruition, making visits to the Culture District and along the West Kowloon Promenade considerably more pleasant. In fact, it is a worthwhile attraction to experience now and will only continue to improve as more of the West Kowloon area is developed and opened to the public. The promenade is presently around 700 metres in length and is open to Victoria Harbour. There are direct views of Hong Kong Island, which can be stunning from this location when sky conditions are favourable. If fireworks ever return to Hong Kong, the promenade makes for a good location to view the displays as there are no tall buildings to obstruct views from this location. In addition to visiting the museums and performance venues nearby, there is a row of restaurants and coffee shops which line the promenade as well as some nicely planted and landscaped park areas to create a bit of a nature feel to the area. All makes for relaxing environs to just pull up a chair (around 40 free seats placed along the promenade) and just watch life go by on the sea. Note: Because of the continued heavy construction to the east of the completed areas of West Kowloon, access remains less convenient than it should. You can walk to the promenade directly from Kowloon Station (7-8 minutes) or Austin Station (12-15 minutes). The walk is beside Elements Mall and heavy construction which isn't nice. You also have to cross over an odd round-a-bout bridge before walking into Art Park. Just follow the signs and ask people around if you find yourself unsure. Alternatively, take one of the light green buses that connect the stations to the front of Art Park or a taxi for a more convenient trip. In time, this will all get sorted out but that will probably take a few more years.
