Rueben is world class. Love the Fries.sassy service in a good way. Expansive menu and they do everything well. Sometimes a wait.
Be the first to ReplySublime Italian in a cool yet warm setting with great service and cocktails at a reasonable price!
Book well in advance for this popular Italian. Been featured on many shows so lots of demand. But worth the. effort! We were able to book board seats for lunch for 2. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. And you get to look at the “pasta mirror” where two original chefs work their magic. We were lucky enough to want things off the price fixe restaurant week menu. Past and apps. A cocktail. And some peppermint meringue cookies. Everything hit the spot. Fun. Lively. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon at lunch. GO!!

Our dinner at Monteverde was delicious. The food, described generally as Italian, was different to any Italian food I have eaten. The restaurant itself is very casual and it is very difficult to make a reservation but, keep trying, as the result is special. Our party of 4 shared a number of plates, none were disappointing. Our personable server, Katie M, helped us navigate the menu and made excellent recommendations. The cocktails were also very good.
Be the first to ReplyFake gnocchietti
GNOCCHETTI CON PESTO were not gnocchetti at all. It's factory pasta little tiny shells. I have been making gnocchi (made with potatoes) and gnocchetti (little potato gnocchi) for over 60 years and at $27 it should have been real little gnocchi. It is fraud call them gnocchi when its only flour pasta. I questioned the server, and she only laughed. and tried to convince me they are gnocchetti. They are not. It would be like a 5 star chef from New York City who is from a fisherman family and orders salmon and they serve him a tilapia and they claim its salmon and even try to contradict the customer. It is embarrassing they would pull a fast one to Chicago land customers.

Our party of four shared multiple dishes: one snack, three shared plates, and two pastas. We had plenty to eat and a few leftovers. The food was fresh, creative, and beautifully presented. Service was efficient without being intrusive. The birthday celebrant received a complimentary piece of cake. If you want to watch the pasta being made, ask for seating at a high top table near the bar.
Be the first to ReplyThe BEST dining experience of 2023!
Our evening started with complications and a reservation that had been misdirected, yet despite a full house, the managers (front of house, Jami; restaurant, Justin) took up the work of puzzling, rearranging, and problem-solving so impressively that within minutes a way had been been possible, and we we seated in time to enjoy our meal and still make it to our show for curtain up. All that BEFORE the incredible meal began! My friend ordered GNOCCHETTI CON PESTO, and I had the WHITE TRUFFLE TAJARIN. I know I will fall short of believability when I say that even after upscale dining around the world this year, the meal I had at Monteverde was the best dining for me in 2023 (well, maybe with the single exception of the chef's table at Alinea, but that is pretty elevated company). The tastes -- the fresh, delightful, and heavenly tastes!! Words are failing me. Just go! but be sure to made reservations well in advance. And, I note only one other aspect so much worth the mention -- the negroni was to die for! Thank you, Jordan! And thank you, Justin, Jami, and Joe for making the evening possible as well as magical.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience for a special birthday gathering!
On behalf of my entire Party of 7, we had a superb dining experience at Monteverde. There was a fun, festive vibe, exceptional service and one of the best meals we ever had (Burrata plate, Ragu Alla Napoletana, Kuri Squash and Spaghetti). They remembered it was my husband's birthday from a reservation we made 2 months ago and made several acknowledgments to it (so touching!) We will spend the rest of our days enjoying the memories of our dinner and raving about this restaurant. :)

SO amazing. Cannot gush enough about how good the food, service, and overall experience was. Monteverde is staying on my list for every visit to Chicago.

Top notch all the way around. Food, Service, Atmosphere, etc. We had a fabulous experience and cannot wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyFinest Restaurant in Chicago
Absolutely the finest Italian food outside of Italy; and then I even question that. I travel 140 flights a year and frequent many restaurants and this is, hands-down, my wife's and my favorite. We already have plans to go for up-coming wedding anniversary. Chef Sarah and her husband Jaime are certainly doing it right as their staff is beyond compare, as well. The atmosphere is perfect. We were in Chicago for the weekend. I saw this restaurant profiled on the Netflix series Feeding Phil. we decided to give it a try. The Burrata Ham appetizer is a must-try. I had the spaghetti Pomodoro, and my wife had the Cacio Whey Pepe. My spaghetti and soppressata meatball was terrific. I make my own sauce and meatballs from scratch. The sauce and meatballs were better than mine and my mom's. The Cacio was good, but I loved the spaghetti so much it did not compare. The Apterivo Spritz is recommended. We had the butterscotch desert that did not disappoint. Service was excellent.

We tried so many different plates. We had everything. And, everything was so delicious and amazing. I would absolutely go back. Such great food!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food. Great service.Great fun
Loud busy restaurant. Limited menu but fantastic. Our server was above and beyond. Brought Prosecco for an anniversary toast. Every single thing we ordered was perfect. Support staff was right on top of everything. Top notch.
Be the first to ReplyGood, But Requires Careful Choices
Pre-pandemic, this was a terrific star of Italian (or, actually, sort-of Italian) food in Chicago. I recently revisited it for the first time since the pandemic and was really struck by unfortunate changes on many fronts. The restaurant remains hard to get into and is unbelievably loud and unpleasant. The menu is more condensed and much less interesting than before. The pastas remain excellent and should be the focus of any meal. The rest is largely a disappointment. We had the smoked fish starter, which lacked depth of flavor and was served, quite strangely, with waffle fries -- that famous Italian dish -- lacking any real texture or flavor. The fish did not go with them at all. The grilled octopus first course came in at a whopping $35 and consisted, literally, of two tiny pieces of octopus no larger than my index finger. It was accompanied by a mess of Spanish-like chiles and other things bearing no resemblance to anything Italian. The service is a nightmare; unattentive people just pushed away the items on the table to place a new dish without comment or showing any interest in what we were eating or doing. I will never return to this formerly wonderful place.

I personally think this is the restaurant you should not miss in Chicago if you love Italian food. Their Burrata e Ham is one dish I will never forget. Warm tigelle bread layered with prosciutto butter, fig jam, burrata, prosciutto and arugula is the perfect mix of the creamy, salty and sweet. We wanted something to go with the crispy fall weather so we also ordered their Ragu alla Napoletana. Too much for a couple but so delicious. The osso bucco was melt off the bone, the fusilli was fresh and the perfect al dente and the sausage and meatballs are homemade and hearty good.

No reservation so hung out at the bar for 30 minutes and got 2 stools at the bar. Great food and service. Excellent gluten free pasta too.
Be the first to ReplyPasta perfect!
Upscale restaurant featuring fresh pastas & great wine selections! Located on W. Madison near Greektown. Chef Sarah Grueneberg focuses on fresh vegetables. The menu is tight, but pleasing. The wine selection outstanding! We ordered butternut squash tortellini, gnochetti con pesto, and a side of italian sausage with a classico chianti. Amazing fresh pasta! The basil & pesto was bright highlighted by the crunch of pine nuts. The gnochetti was rich melt-in-your mouth delicious!! I had to try a dessert. The table next to us ordered Tiramisu which was an amazing work of art, easily split for 4 or more! I had 2 of the meringue cookies with dark chocolate & toasted coconut! Wow. So very good!!! I highly recommend this restaurant for foodies, wine connoisseurs, and the rest of us!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere and food. Tad overrated.
Since this is one the top rated restaurants in Chicago, I had to take my mom there when she was visiting from out of town. Firstly, I would not bank on walk-ins. I called right when they opened to inquire and they said they always take walk-ins and they’ll get us seated and not to worry etc. We arrive at 5:30pm on a Wednesday… and they couldn’t seat us until 8? …very strange. Food, overall was excellent. Loved allll of the small bites and apps we got. Pasta was SO good - beware of smaller portions. Not sure if I would return. There are better italian restaurants in Chicago most definitely. You come here for the good vibes, and good food…but if you want an authentic Italian meal I would look elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyWe were expecting the best meal in Chicago....WE GOT IT!
From the time we walked in with a smiling host staff, until we had been served with dessert, Monteverde showed why it is one of the toughest reservations to get in Chicago. What a meal, all orchestrated by a world class server: Brett. We worked through small plates and cocktails before taking Brett's recommendation on the ribeye. "With so many steakhouses in Chicago, we do not get the press on our steak as we should" Oh Brett, how right you were. My wife and I shared it for our entree and it was spectacular. And save room for dessert. The chocolate dipped forgotten cookie and butterscotch budino alone would bring me back.

This is a very fun restaurant. The menu is all small plates. Each dish has its own unique preparation. It was so much fun to work our way through the menu. Out waiter was very helpful. The resturant is very informal & casual. Just be careful The bill adds up quickly! But it is all worth the experience of dining here!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Meal -- Great Service!
Monteverde was recommended by a friend in Chicago and did not disappoint....dinner at 4:45 wasn't optimal but it was definitely worth it! My sis and I shared some dishes -- eggplant outstanding, gnocchetti and cacia whey pepe were both exceptional. I even loved the Hans Rottensteiner Savignon Blanc -- it went perfect with the food. What we really liked about the restaurant was the atmosphere. This is a serious foody place, but it was not pretentious: the restaurant was light and airy, not too noisy, and the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.

Very easily could have spiraled out of control as we arrived at 415, for 430 reservation. No room at the bar, a bit frustrating. However the tides changed quickly! First off the reason why we had reservations to begin with, was due to the fact that we dealt with the restaurant through email, after the Resy app, said there were none to be had. The food and the service was absolutely incredible. Wanted to try the plates that were enjoyed on “ somebody feed Phil “ Chicago episode on Netflix, but knew we couldn’t take leftovers, due to show, so they showed us how to order ala carte. If we ever come back to Chicago, this is a MUST stop!

Plate after plate was excellent, the service was terrific, and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. The Arancini, Burrata Ham, and Chocolate Torta were memorable.

Sometimes a restaurant cannot live up to its accolades. In my view Monteverde exceeded my expectations. My family sampled several dishes including the Creste di Gallo, a sensational pasta, and shared the Ragu Alla Napoletana. This was incredible and easily feed the three of us. Since my son took me there for my b-day, the restaurant treated us to a slice of the birthday cake. My family agreed that this was the best birthday cake we have ever eaten. We cannot wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyYou must try this restaurant! Best Italian food I’ve had here or in Italy !
Some of the best Italian food I’ve had. We went for lunch and had the egg yolk raviolo which we watch them hand make from our seats at the bar. This dish was one of the best and uniques dishes I have ever had. It is a large raviolo stuffed with a spinach ricotta and an egg yolk. It’s cooked then served with prosciutto, crispy sage and hazelnuts. It was savory and a tad sweet from the balsamic. They best mix of flavors . We also had the meatball which was the best meatball I’ve ever had. It was delicate and flavorful, not too heavy . We also had the Caesar salad and cacio Pepe and tiramisu. All outstanding !
