How Brian Moran, a manager at Mohonk Mountain House, ruined our day with his racism and arrogance A warning to anyone who wants to visit this place and expects decent customer service, especially if you are part of a minority group What happened • My son and his girlfriend decided to visit Mohonk Mountain House for a date. My son also planned his proposal during this trip, he booked a dinner event and worked with an event planner for the proposal ideas. The event planner was very helpful. • The issue happened when we arrived in the morning, we were greeted properly but the assigned person (Diane) who was supposed to help us with the proposal setup was not there, after 30 min searching, we were told Diane was not available and there was no backup plan. Well, that’s a shock with only less than 90 min to the planned proposal time. So, we called for the manager's help. • Brian Moran who claimed to be the manager showed up. He looked at us with disdain and he had no idea what’s going on and no patience to listen to our story. He apologized but no eye contact with an arrogant look like “why are you guys bothering me”. • He then made a few useless comments but was still not willing to patiently listen to us as every time we started the conversation, he became very defensive, and he’d interrupted us to tell us we were not right and repeated saying “how I can help”. Well, that’s exactly what we wanted to tell him the whole story and the plan if he just kept his mouth shut and listened. The worst came when my wife made her attempt to tell Brian the plan and Brian’s face turned very annoyed because by then he probably couldn’t figure out how to help us and he could not think of any good excuses not to help us. Then he just walked away when my wife was still talking to him. Really? Is this Mohonk’s new standard for customer service? Brian Moran was not just arrogant, he was also very rude to an Asian lady. • While Brian Moran was gone, another nearby hotel guy Alec Golden stepped in as he saw our frustration and offered his help, he put on a nice smile and very patiently listened to our story and the plan and walked with us to the planned proposal path. Alec then helped us with the photo spots and hiding spots and also volunteered to stay with us the entire time to help. Alec was super helpful and he really saved this important event! The evening dinner was also good. Mohonk is a nice place for events and most people are nice and great, but we know one bad apple spoils the bunch and Brian Moran is one big bad apple, Brian must be removed if Mohonk wants to continue offering their premium event venue and services as Brian’s clueless, helpless and arrogant racism personality has no place in the Hospitality industry (or any industries).
