Long Post Warning! My husband took me to The Mission Inn
Long Post Warning! My husband took me to The Mission Inn after I returned from a 10 hour flight from Japan. I was in desperate need of a shower and sleep. He decided to upgrade our room so I would have the best chance of relaxation. The first room they gave us didn't have a nice bathroom so they said we could switch. The second room they gave us the key didn't work. My husband had to go to the front desk three times before someone came up to fix it. While I was unpacking our bathroom stuff (in a bathroom that was exactly the same as the first) my husband unmade the bed to check for unpleasantries. And thankfully, he did! The stains on the sheets do not belong in a 2 star motel, much less a 4 star hotel! Once again, back to the front desk and this time they offer an upgrade on our upgrade. I was thrilled. Maybe we will get a 4 star bathroom. Nope. Still a 2 star- but worse! When I finally was able to get a shower I had to keep shutting it off for it to drain. I was literally in ankle deep water. I gag just thinking about it. The next day we called to have them fix the shower and when we returned from our breakfast, the maintenance worker had left behind his dirty rags. I won't bore you with how bad the housekeeping was but let you know that my husband asked the front desk upon check out to have the manager call him. My husband has tried calling the manager four times and left voice mails. He has not been contacted. I would not usually leave such a detailed and negative review, and it could have been prevented if the management had just replied. I do not recommend The Mission Inn.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible customer service.
A few times I have reached out to try and schedule a stay here and staff members are so short and hang up mid sentence. Thank god I didn't have my wedding here because we were about to sign the contract but something told us not to. Lol the service ruins the experience. Not worth the stay.

Mission inn stole my credit card information in December and refuses to refund or acknowledge what they did. Do not stay here! They steal. If that isn't enough for you the roach infestation in the hotel will get you. Gross!

I made the reservation through Expedia on Jan. 12 for a stay on Feb 17-18. Confirmed. On Feb. 1 the mission inn cancelled my reservations. In between, on Jan. 29, the Mission Inn advertised a sweetheart special for that particular weekend. After many phone calls and messages left for the manager, I found out that the inn was overbooked and they had cancelled all the reservations made by third parties! All Alfie, the manager could say was"sorry". Not could we rebook you, nothing. Very poor management.

I showed up on the Last day & the sight was very lovely to see ! I wish I should have taken more photos . But a camera can never capture the same ! You must go & see it all for yourself Don't forget to bring something warm because around this time in the season it can get cold at night - had a blast & got to take some pictures under some fascinating sights - check them out

Not sure quite what I was expecting, but I felt a little disappointed by this experience! Maybe if you live in or near Riverside, it's worth going every year, since it's free. But for me, because I live in San Diego and am used to the Christmas lights at the Hotel Del Coronado, I think checking this out once was enough. Seeing downtown Riverside was probably the best part: I liked how the local shops were open late, there was live music on the street, and lots of people were walking around. And the lights on the exterior of the hotel looked quite beautiful. The part that was disappointing was the courtyard walkthrough. We waited in a long line to walk through the hotel courtyard, where you could barely see anything, and it was over before I knew it. My friend, who had been before, said "that's it!" at the end, and I thought she was kidding. I guess I was expecting to enter an atrium or something, and maybe get some better views of the hotel's interior. But it's a fancy hotel, and they have giant crowds of people coming through to look at the lights, so it makes sense that it's more restricted. I'm glad I saw it once, but I probably won't be back! Unless I'm with young kids and/or happen to already be in the area during the Christmas season.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a 5:30 reservation in the main restaurant.
The food didn't arrive until 2 hours later. No explanation for extreme wait. 2 Steaks were not cooked as ordered. We wanted a second round of drinks but no one ever came to take the order The rest of the food was good. Terrible service.

Our church members brought us here for Christmas lights and dinner. It was a week before Christmas so difficult finding parking space. Drove around the block for good 20 minutes before one of the members decided to pay for parking structure near by the sign says $30 later $50??? Well I guess we were lucky enough to pay $30 :( The lighting was beautiful but over crowded. Lines were way too long to go inside.

Drove over from Palm Spring to have dinner at Mission Inn last evening and see the lights. We have stayed at the Inn many times, but had not seen the Inn at Christmas for over a decade. What a horrible transformation. Years ago the Inn was a beautiful, tastefully decorated Christmas highlight. Today, it is a gargantuan, Disney-like monstrosity. If you like thousands of people crowded into one city block, you might like it. Be prepared to wait in line for over an hour to spend a few minutes seeing some lights. We talked to the staff at the restaurant and they hate it. I can't image paying nearly $300/night at a hotel where you can barely get to your room through the throngs of people. The Mission Inn and the City of Riverside should be ashamed of themselves for ruining a community treasure all to make an extra buck. Our advice is stay away from the Mission Inn at Christmas time.

A one and done for me, honestly underwhelming for the hype it gets. I can see the potential and why locals love it. A nice holiday outing but I wouldn't go out of my way to attend.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband has been treating for cancer, and we had not
My husband has been treating for cancer, and we had not left home for months due to his weakened immune system. For his birthday, we decided to risk a weekend away so we booked a room at the Mission Inn during the Festival of Lights. The hotel was very nicely decorated, we received fairly good service but after returning home I found myself covered with some kind of bug bites (bed bugs?). I contacted the hotel who was unsympathetic and denied any responsibility. I have not had any bites before or since, and we have literally not been anywhere else. I'm attaching a couple of photos of the bites, although I had them all over, just can't show some of the areas.

I was so excited to celebrate New Years Eve!!!! Well what a disappointment the food was HORRIBLE!!! Room didn't even have coffee for all that money we spend at least have complementary coffee/water!!!! The brunch (food) was cold and we had reservations and we still had to wait 45 min and they ended up sitting us far back and we had to walk to go get our food and again all cold!!! Will never come back! In addition horrible customer service!!!! Lack of staff we had the most HORRIBLE expensive experience $192 for brunch and you're allowed only 2 mimosas!! WTF!!!
Be the first to ReplyLocated at the Mission Inn.
Plenty of nearby parking on the last day the lights were up.We brought our family to enjoy the beautiful lights before they were taken down. We had a chilly, bit wonderful night. We did notice that there were no longer any vendors along the streets like years before. I was truly looking forward to buy hot chocolate. Nonetheless, it was a magical night. If you've never been here for the Festival of Lights, do so. It's so beautiful. I know two couples now that proposed during this event.

Definitely a must see, there were lots of different vendors outside the parameters of the hotel plus restaurants. Hotel is decorated through out, inside as well and a gingerbread house in the lobby. The lights at certain times and a couple snow machines.

The Mission Inn is a historical landmark that gets decked out for the holidays. I'm glad to finally see this in person after seeing it year after year on the evening news. You can go inside and check out the decorated lobby too.I was a little hungry so I'm glad they have concession booths set up on Main St. I just happened to be there when a vendor was closing up for the night so a worker was giving away pizza pretzels. Prior to that, I bought a blue corn tamale for $5 from a different vendor.I noticed there were signs directing to parking but I was able to find free parking on the street since it was later in the evening.
Be the first to ReplyI haven't stayed or used their spa.
I only went to see the Christmas Lights. Line was very long.

I been going since I was a little girl, it was always beautiful and still is. I love the festivity and the dรฉcor of the entire location, it is so pretty. The place was so full of people, and it was a weeknight, but I still enjoyed the time there. I love watching families have fun walking and enjoying the beautiful Christmas dรฉcor in this beautiful historical landmark hotel, I love it!
Be the first to ReplyThe Mission Inn Hotel is lit up! Black Friday is the day
The Mission Inn Hotel is lit up! Black Friday is the day to see the lightening and firework display. All of Main Street is also lined with vendors and plenty of photo op's. There is a ferris wheel and merry-go-round near by. No, there weren't any horse with carriage of the ice skating ring this season. But Mission Inn Hotel beautiful lit indoors and out! If you don't enjoy crowds, the Black Friday weekend is not for you. Try going the beginning of the week. Plenty to see and do! Plenty of neighboring small businesses!!
Be the first to ReplyI booked a reservation and when I made it online it did not
I booked a reservation and when I made it online it did not say non refundable it said you can cancel 48 hours in advance. After booking and receiving my conformation I realized that it was non refundable I would have never reserved the room if I knew that , I was confident as per the cancellation instructions when booking where going to be within 48 hrs of booking date I called and the young lady said a manager would have to cancel she could not but I could change the date coming in so that I was not booked during the Festival of Lights and could cancel so I did. Now I'm stuck and they will not cancel my reservation even though I won't be able to make it I am really disappointed and will probably never book here again

A few moments of "oh that's nice" and in about 10 mins you are done. Not worth any length of drive to see the lights and decor... if you insist on going, do yourself a favor and make a reservation at one of the restaurants at the Inn to make the outing last more than 10 mins. The area around the inn is not the best. There was sewage smell at the entrance, and that's where they spray a little fake snow at you... also the security guards who flash room keys at people to let them know that unless you are a hotel guest you cannot come in. Merry Christmas!!!!
