🤢 2/5 - Very poor

The dead withered shrubs in pots on either side of the entrance held a clue to the service inside. We arrived shortly before our guests and on entering, despite being the only ones at the bar, were ignored by the two staff who were attempting to sort out a transaction on the till. Eventually they acknowledged we were there and we ordered a drink and waited outside for our guests to arrive. When they did we were shown to our table and rather than being asked what we wanted to drink at to his point waited 5 minutes for someone to come and take the drinks order. Our comment that we were ready to order out meals was ignored and 15 minutes later the drinks turned up. After approximately half an hour our food came. I don't know which ploughman the lunch was based on but he obviously wasn't a fan of cheese, as that was the smallest ingredient on the plate. The potato topped bean dish was topped with an anemic mash that reminded me of 1970s processed packets of Smash. All round poor overpriced food served to a low standard. When no one came to our table we went to the bar to pay, where after a further delay a request to split the bill was meet with eye rolling. What a shame to see what used to be a good pub spoiled by borderline rudeness and bad service. My advice is if you're understaffed forewarn diners so they know what to expect. And if you feel under pressure don't take it out on your customers.
