My friends and I dined at Matsuhisa this past weekend and
My friends and I dined at Matsuhisa this past weekend and had a very nice experience. Our friend who has dined here in the past took control and ordered for us. The service was superb. Between the food runners bringing the food out and our waitress always being present set the tone. The food was really good, but the wagyu wasn't worth it. Everything else was really good. I do suggest the bento box for dessert. The molten chocolate cake was hot and oozing chocolate filling. We sat out doors and the views were breathtaking looking into the mountains. The only con was that on Saturdays they have a dj playing in front of the restaurant which made it tough to talk. Otherwise a very nice experience.

An amazing evening! Very knowledgeable and informative server ... attentive staff. Great food. Excellent experience!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a decent chain sushi restaurant.
Too loud for me but some people like the busy atmosphere. Food is fine but not memorable.
Be the first to ReplyWe were SO looking forward to returning to Matsuhisa since
We were SO looking forward to returning to Matsuhisa since we were last here in 2/20 (during the epic snowstorm). Matsuhisa has always been our favorite in Vail, however, the food fell really flat and was so disappointing. The sushi looked good but didn't taste fresh. Definitely was not memorable. The best part of the meal was the shrimp tempura, salad and the cocktails. Service was superb so would give 5-stars for that.
Be the first to ReplyThis place made me start eating raw fish.
The sashimi here is beyond incredible. The way they cut the fish to a perfect size that soaks in the sauce and has such soft chicken like texture and the flavors are fresh. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to love this place so much more.
Not worth the hype unless you're totally craving sushi on your land-locked vacation. Sat at the sushi bar with a girlfriend. Our server was lovely, food was standard. Normally I love sitting at the sushi bar but one of the sushi chefs kept staring at us while we ate... and not in a hospitable type of way. The food was not bad, no complaints about the price. Wish the experience was better. Also, great sake menu. Overall not good but not bad.
Be the first to ReplyGood service, great ambience and food was really good.
We order the black cod sweet miso and it was delicious, make sure you order it once you arrive because it takes a while to be ready. The sushi with salmon on top is off the menu so you have to order it, it's one of the house specialties. Salmon and Tuna Nigiri were good. Best part was the lava cake with vanilla icee cream. Service was great. Make sure to make the reservation ahead of time, it's always busy.
Be the first to ReplyA lively if not slightly loud atmosphere.
The food and service is always top notch and unique
Be the first to ReplyI wavered on whether this is 4 or 5 stars.
Needless to say when had a great meal. Eating at the sushi bar is always fun because of the interaction with the sushi chefs. And that's what we did. We went with our regular favorites and added a few exotics of which one was a raw oyster with uni and some other fun stuff. This was an "off menu" favor that the chef did for us. We drank a more than average amount of cold unfiltered sake and in the end our bar bill was a little more than the food. Not unusual for us. We'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyFor a restaurant of this caliber I would expect a lot more
For a restaurant of this caliber I would expect a lot more out of it. The food is very overpriced for the portion size, and the taste may make up for it as it is hit and miss. Service is mostly good. They want you to share menus and half the restaurant is either dark or darker. I thought there was a dress code but hoodies and t-shirts are allowed. So are kids with light up noisy lazer guns. Don't sit at the uncomfortable booths. However when the food is good it is really good.

staff is excellent, food is excellent, atmosphere is excellent...I don't drink but I know that their Gardener drink is excellent!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, location and the bar is top notch.
A tough reservation to get, but worth the wait if you don't have one. I love the bar, especially at the end of the day for good people watching and the Vail glitz/glam in the winter time. Pricey, but hey, it's Vail.

We had a pleasant experience at Matsuhisa but felt expensive for what you get. Some hits and some misses with the food. Overall we had a nice evening.

Came here two days ago and had to come back specifically for the albacore truffle sashimi special, tried new things as well (in the photos) and it was amazing again
Be the first to ReplyWe had a wonderful experience at Matsuhisa tonight.
Our server Antonio recommended amazing dishes and it was so fun to have him lead us on a journey through the menu. He was very warm and welcoming and provided a perfect dining experience. We can't wait to come back next time we are in town!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, one of the best matsuhisas there are.
Great service. Thank you to the managers truly the best!
Be the first to ReplyAlways incredible - food and scene unmatched.
.. uni was best we have ever had Service this year was not quite as it was stellar in prior years. The servers abd specifically the runners were too busy to give the extra attention they are usually known for. The runner simply dropped each dish down without clearly describing as should be Other than that it's always a memorable evening
Be the first to ReplyMy friends and I were in town for President's Day weekend
My friends and I were in town for President's Day weekend and were so excited to try this location of Matsuhisa. We were told the weekend was booked ahead of time, but that we could call and/or show up and add our name to the waitlist. When we did call Friday night, just to see how long the wait was, Christina answered and responded "I don't know" to everything we asked. What's the point of having a host if she's not going to do her job? So we decide to go Sunday and put our name on the waitlist for the bar and Kacey/KC was completely dismissive of us. Not giving us a definite answer on anything and was being completely unhelpful. Mind you, I'd just let this blow over, but the collective attitude and tone were just unacceptable. The only person who offered to put our name down on the waitlist was Jen over the phone. Shout out to her, but the other girls left such a bad taste in our mouths with their unprofessional work ethic.
Be the first to ReplyMatsuhisa is consistently one of the best restaurants in
Matsuhisa is consistently one of the best restaurants in Vail. It has an upscale but warm atmosphere and stunning views of the mountain with wall to wall windows. The staff were friendly, accomodating, prompt and made the experience great. Matsuhisa's menu is large and offers several appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls. Some of my favorites are the black cod lettuce cups, shishito peppers, tempura fried veggies, house special rolls and shaved ice for dessert. The food is a bit pricey, though on par or even more reasonable than peer top tier restaurants in Vail, and one that is truly worth the money. Their food is fresh, inventive and excellent. Overall, this is one of the few restaurants that has it all when it comes to fine dining- a great ambience, wonderful staff, and memorably delicious dishes. Matsuhisa is a spot I've always been excited to keep coming back!

Went here for a surprise dinner with my girlfriend and was blown away. This was my first time here and it was amazing. The service was incredible and our waitress was attentive the entire night. The servers who brought the dishes out were equally amazing. We had a beautiful view of the mountains early on before the sun set. Their prices are steep but typical for vail, but the food does not disappoint. We started off with the shishito peppers, black cod lettuce cups, edamame, fried vegetable tempura, the rainbow roll/house roll, and a tuna roll. For 2 people this was plenty of food. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The black cod lettuce cups were a favorite of the evening. We didn't order drinks but they have an extensive wine and liquor menu. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone who visits vail in the future.
Be the first to ReplyHave been eating here since 2019.
It's a really nice setting with meticulously prepared food. I do not eat seafood, but those that I come with say it's among the best sushi and seafood they have in any given year. The restaurant can be very loud so if you have hearing issues, keep that in mind. Like any good Japanese influenced restaurant they also know how to prepare the land lubbers food well. Their veggie tempura is great as is their beef and chicken. It's always cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Their sauces are a nice balance to bring the flavors out of the meats. I'm a big fan of the mushroom soup and shishito peppers as a starter. In fact, the peppers come with a sweet miso sauce that I think pairs well with all of the meat dishes; I end up supplementing with it as I nibble away on other items. If you have a hankering for some of the very expensive Wagyu options, you can order a teaser in their Wagyu roll. It's "only" $20 and is a satisfying and tasty piece of beef. If you want to go for the full experience, you can order the Wagyu on a salt stone or just as steak in 1 oz increments. It adds up fast, but it is decadent so you don't need too much. Unfortunately, service is where the restaurant tends to fall flat. It's ok. Some servers are great, but most are clearly working to move the deck chairs around and get people out. It's fine as this is one of those rare experiences where the food compensates for the mediocre service, but it does consistently leave something to be desired. The plus side is if you need something there is always a floor lead or manager nearby and they are on it. Additionally, the "bussers" are competent and provide backup well if you have a question or need anything. All in all, you won't be disappointed, but book as soon as reservations open up during peak season or you might be standing outside looking in at all the deliciousness.

Amazing food , their way to make a reservation never works for us . I had to wait for about 1 hours as walk in. Once we sat down service was good and delicious food. Make sure you ask for their specials that aren't in true menu.

Got the omakaseOverpriced for what you get $175Eight courses which included:Vegetable hand rolltoro tartare on a squid ink taco shellsashimi course with three fish two pieces each (6total) one nigiri course (3 pieces)A crab saladsea bass which was amazing - standout of the mealA5 wagyu which was cold (prob why omakase cost this much - but the meat was whatever as it was not warm enough but the mushrooms that accompanied it were good)DessertForgot to take pictures of the crab salad and wagyu I had requested uni for my omakase which they said they would try to accommodate but didn't. I would go for a La carte instead of the omakase

Everything was amazing!! Even the hostess was able to accommodate us without a reservation. The food and drinks were great. The service was amazing. When we sat down, there was a girl accommodating the silverware in our table, I thought she was our server but she was not. and I ordered our drinks, without a hesitation or "wait till your server comes by", she took our order! Amazing!! I loved the vibe in the restaurant.
