Mastro's Steakhouse Palm Desert Reviews from The Last Year
During our 6 day stretch in Palm Desert, visited Mastro's 3
During our 6 day stretch in Palm Desert, visited Mastro's 3 times, once for dinner, twice for cocktails. Sat in the bar area, to take advantage of the live music. Lots of regulars frequent the bar and most are quite friendly. Fun banter between these regulars, us, and the bartenders. My ribeye was delicious, got the Wagyu Wine reduction butter on top. She enjoyed the Kansas City Strip. Desserts were the Strawberry Butter Cake and on a separate visit, we enjoyed the Key Lime Pie, excellent. Once we discovered Key Lime Martini's were on the menu, we ordered several. Normally concocted with a Keke liqueur, which is difficult to obtain and unavailable at this location, the bartenders used their own recipe. It's the best Key Lime Martini I've had to date.
The ambiance was great but way too loud.
The food was just "ok" ( better places to eat around El Paseo) for the price you will be paying. The service was mediocre.
Ate here last night and had a great experience.
Our waiter was Great- very informative and helpful. Steaks were excellent and had mashed potatoes and mushrooms which were excellent. Top Notch restaurant and will return. Expensive but worth it.
I definitely enjoyed my anniversary at Mastro's.
Delicious food and wonderful service. We had the bread service which was delish, the sautéed shrimp which I wouldn't get again, Filet steak medium cooked perfectly and the lobster mac and cheese delish!!!!We ended our meal with a butter cake which was phenomenal and a cheesecake which was mediocre don't recommend. The only criticism I have is how packed the seating was, I had to move all the way into a tiny corner where it was difficult to even hear what my boyfriend was saying. I do think the amount of tables and seating needs work especially to be comfortable with ought a chair or a person bumping into me. Will be back again!
Not as expected
My husband and I visited Maestros here in the Desert for an early Fathers Day Dinner. We have enjoyed the Vegas Maestros over the years and we’re looking forward to trying the Palm Desert location. Unfortunately our evening began with a back dining room with zero atmosphere. Mostly groups and families- which is fine if we were with ours. Our server was very personable and efficient. Good cocktails and a nice wine pour. My husbands NY steak was very good. My Halibut- not so. Tasteless. I covered the fish and our large underdone potato with a very tasty peppercorn sauce. The usually excellent Butter Cake appeared to be not up to what we were used to as well. Maybe just an off night. But think we will stick to the Vegas property for future visits.
We had a 7/30 reservation and the table they were going to
We had a 7/30 reservation and the table they were going to give us kept stalling after paying their bill. It ended up being 30 minutes before we could be seated. The manager, Carol, felt so bad and came over and offered our first bottle of nice champagne on the house. So sweet! Our server, Destiny, was a doll. She was well-versed on the menu, very attentive and quick to get anything we needed, and very polite. Our food was phenomenal and our entire wait staff was incredible. We will be back every time we visit Palm Desert.
A few things are going into this review.
My husband and I had reservations here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, which we let the restaurant know when our concierge booked our table. They placed us at a very tiny table in the back of the restaurant next to a group of 8 men who were laughing and being so obnoxious the entire time. The service was extremely slow and there was a live band and singer playing, which made the environment feel even more chaotic and overwhelming. This felt more like a bar than a steakhouse. We ordered the 22oz bone-in ribeye, baked potato and white cheddar Mac and cheese. The steak was super tender but under seasoned. The potato was nice and big and tasted great. The Mac and cheese wasn't cheesy at all, we both took 1 bite and didn't touch it again. We were expecting fine dining and an environment to celebrate a very special occasion but sadly we left disappointed. Ruth's Chris is better.
My wife and I loved the the food, and the decor.
Our server, Luiz was very attentive and made our anniversary dinner very special . The only thing that soured the night, was the entertainment. While she was decent, it just made the ambiance a bit too much for us. Especially when the guests decided it was karaoke night and tried singing along. Not what we were wanting for an elegant anniversary dinner . Without the singing, our night would have been perfect.
Amazing service unbelievable taste of food must come at
Amazing service unbelievable taste of food must come at least once a week I like this place, and I recommend it to all my friends
In town and celebrating our anniversary with friends.
Decided to treat ourselves for steak and drinks. Reservations needed, we were sat down very quick. Friendly service and staff. My steak was undercooked and AC was a little strong; other than that good times.
What a wonderful time we had at Mastros's.
Our bartender David was welcoming and made our first dining experience here super special! Just went above and beyond and we really appreciated it. I recommend make room for their buttercake! 10 stars for David!!
We have wanted to dine here for sometime and we're waiting
We have wanted to dine here for sometime and we're waiting for a good opportunity. All of our family was together and decided perfect. The wait staff is great. They see to every need and not once did we have to ask for anything. Martinis are served in a shaker and shaken at the table. ( The only issue was six of us ordered martinis and the staff got them mixed up, then she had to smell them, which seemed odd ). We shared the 22oz ribeye prepared medium rare+ and it was perfect. Sides were great. Lobster fried rice, Mac n cheese and creamed spinach. We made certain we saved room for the butter cake. Best part of our meal and we shared it six ways. Only really complaint is you are packed in a bit tight in the dining room and of course the cost. $800+ for six.
Everything is WAYYY over priced.
Food is so so...even Even the hor duerves are overpriced. Drinks ? Not very good
Let me start with the positive, the guys at the bar work
Let me start with the positive, the guys at the bar work hard, are professional and really try. I was by myself so just sat at the bar for dinner. The menu is quite limited, the prices are ridiculous and the meal I this past visit was very disappointing. The lump crab appetizer special was excellent, but when the bill came I discovered it was $55! The entrees are all a la carte and yes very expensive. I ordered just a plain mixed green salad it was very over dressed and yes, too salty. I also order the salmon oreganato style and it was literally a piece of fish on a plate. It was so salty I could barely stomach it, as well was being over cooked and dry. Needless to say I sent it back. I asked for just simply grilled the second time around. It was eatable at best. Since the entree came with nothing I order a half order of wild mushroom gnocchi as a side. Hardly any mushrooms to be found, the gnocchi were mushy and the sauce was just lost. The wines are ridiculously priced, even by the glass, but I have to say the pours are very generous! The bartender removed one of my $23 glasses of wine and the bill still came in at almost $200 with tip. I left there so disappointed and felt robbed of one of my enjoyable evenings here in the Desert. Would NEVER go back especially considering the plethora of dining options out here. I guess all the hundred millionaires and billionaires that have places close by don't know any better and don't care about what anything costs, just if they think they are at the "in place" to see and be seen!
The food was fine, but the service was appalling! We
The food was fine, but the service was appalling! We arrived on time for our reservation and were made to wait 25 minutes while others arrived and were seated immediately. I'm guessing it was because we had a child with us and they put all the children in the same room! So I kind of get that, but then once we were seated it was10 minutes before we were greeted and no menus yet. Once we had our menus we asked if we could order something and the waitress said "I'll get to you" ! At this point I would have walked out but I didn't want to create a scene in front of our granddaughter. The service didn't improve, slow and at times just rude. Definitely not a great experience!
Bring ear plugs and plan on no conversation
Service was excellent. The level of noise to a point that we won’t be back. Steaks (one petite filet and one bone in filet) very average. Two of us had rack of lamb, really really good. A full rack each (8-ribs) that required take home. A real mixed bag review here but at the prices they charge we all expected more.
The food and service were good but not representative of
The food and service were good but not representative of the price point. Our order (table of four) was incorrect and, while corrected, it made for a less than pleasurable experience. The resturant is beautiful and while one would expect a fine dining experience, the crowds and noise made it feel more like a cattle call. We had an early seating and being a business dinner we stayed longer than usual prompting them to ask us to leave so they could accommodate other reservations. We were not offended but clearly this resturant is more focused on quantity than quality.
Extremely Expensive and Very Loud
We found the experience to be over rated. The dining room was so loud you could barely hear each other talk. We have no problem paying $50 -$60 or even $70 for a prime steak, but other items were very expensive. Large Shrimp at $35 each!!! And to charge $45 for crab rice side is outrageous! Not to mention the high charge for all sides. And $5 for bread...Seriously, at the prices Mastro's charges for drinks, sides, etc., to add a $5 for bread was more like slap to the face at an already overpriced menu! We will be back, Nope! We will take our business to Morton's, Mitch's, Walley's, Ruth Chris, etc. as the atmosphere and the noise level far exceed what we experienced at Mastro's!
We recently ate dinner here on a Sunday night.
It seemed like one of the only nice restaurants in the area open on a Sunday night, so that was a plus! Our service was just okay. Our waiter was very busy, so we did not get great service. My favorite part of the meal was either the crab cakes we ordered for an appetizer or the French onion soup. For dinner I ordered the Sea Bass. It was just alright. Their dessert portions are huge! Unfortunately the two butter cakes we ordered were a bit dry. Although I enjoyed dinner, it was a bit underwhelming for the price.
Just another overpriced steakhouse.
Some people like the steakhouse experience. I could take it or leave it. Steak was good. Mushrooms were great. Everything's way overpriced. The wedge salad was great. The timing of the meal was terrible. Salads weren't done steaks showed up.it was somewhat of a cluster. Lots of hot cougars at the bar. They may have been pumas. Or even mastodons.
Mastro's provides an experience that is enjoyable, but
Mastro's provides an experience that is enjoyable, but doesn't live up to the hype or the price tag. Compliments to the wait staff, as they are very well-trained, kind, and professional. We felt taken-care of throughout our meal, and never once noticed or had to think about the logistics / timing of our meal throughout the night. Well done. However, the food is what did not live up to the hype and price tag. I ordered the regular 16oz NY Strip, Oscar-style. - As every restaurant has a bit of variance in how medium-rare and medium are defined, the waiter mentioned warm pink in the middle for medium. Unfortunately, the steak came back light pink on the edges and a deep red in the middle. - Additionally, the steak was extremely tough when cutting through it. While it was tasty and melt-in-your-mouth buttery, but the toughness of the fibers when cutting through the steak gave it a weird mouthfeel. - Worth noting, though, that the King Crab on top of the steak was the best crab I've ever had! The crab cakes appetizers were very good as well, but not worth a $47 price tag for 2. The warm butter cake and chocolate butter cake were good, but nothing to write home about. Lastly, I expected to be wow-ed by the whiskey list when it wasn't included in the drink menu. "If it has a separate menu, must be great!" Unfortunately, the vast majority of whiskeys (bourbon, scotch, etc) on the list could be found on most other whiskey lists at other restaurants. (I'm excluding the few they had on their extremely rare list.) All-in-all, we didn't walk away from this disappointed, however, we also wouldn't plan to come back without trying other places first.
Went here on a date & celebration with my man, this place
Went here on a date & celebration with my man, this place did not disappoint. Food was amazing! Can't wait to go back again for another dinner date.
We made reservations for Valentine's Day & got seated at
We made reservations for Valentine's Day & got seated at the exact time. Was very busy but thankfully we got a corner table where we could enjoy ourselves. We started off with a Caesar salad which was great but wish there was a bit more dressing. We got the bread service which came out warm and was excellent. We ordered the filet 6oz & 8oz both were cooked how we ordered them. Very tender! Garlic mashed potatoes were amazing! Mac & cheese was just Mac & cheese. We were excited to try the butter cake as we had heard many great things however it didn't meet our expectations. Only the center was soft the rest was very overcooked. The ice cream and whip cream was amazing though just like our service so 10/10!
bad experience
We dinned at mastros in indian wells on 1/26, party of three 7pm reservation.. .We ordered a bottle of wine which took longer than typical to arrive. Waiter finally came back to take our order. Onion soup and 1/2 wedge salad came out. The salad was finly chopped, served on a small bread plate with no dressing or bacon. Waiter never came back to check on our table so had to flag down a bus boy to ask for dressing and bacon. Took a long time but finally got dressing no bacon. We waited for dinner to arrive all the time wondering why to two tables seated long after us received their meals? Our Meals Finally arrive, one filet ordered medium was served very raw as if it hadn’t touched any flame , the scalloped potatoes had no taste and were gritty like flour was not mixed. In all the way . The second 1/2 wedge salad was better, served in a bowl( not a small plate) with bacon but with no dressing. Still the waiter never asked us how things were. Other servers brought the food not the waiter. He never checked on anything. We asked someone else’s waiter to find our waiter. Our Waiter finally came and we told him the steak was way under cooked. He took one of our forks then stabbed the steak grabbed a bread plate from our table and put the stabbed steak in it and left. No apology or comment. Before that happened we also told him the wedge salad again had no dressing, he challenged the comment and made us prove and show him there was no dressing. Again no apology. At that time we told him the first salad was horrible, it was finally chopped( not a wedge) no bacon or dressing. He left the table. No apologies . As we waited, we had no water and our wine glasses were empty. We tried to flag a bus boy down again. The first one walked past and gave Betsy a slap on the hand she was holding up to flag him and kept walking - as if we were giving him a high five- very unprofessional. finally we got a bus boy to stop and we requested water and another bottle of wine. Waiter came back 15 minutes later with again an undercooked Steak. It was charred on the outside and still raw inside and wine still had not arrived. We ended up sharing the other persons filet we had ordered that was cooked right. Our Waiter finally came with the bottle of wine 20 minutes after asked for it and we told him don’t open, we are done with our meals. he seemed annoyed with us. Again no apologies. He asked about the under cooked steak, we told him it still was not cooked properly, he said he could take it back again and we said no, too late we are done. We noticed other tables who had arrived after us had already eaten paid and left and we were still waiting. We then asked to speak to the manager. Stephanie the manager came to the table, we explained our experience and disappointments. She offered to take the items off our bill acted all concern and wanted to buy us a cocktail for our troubles but we were done eating , so we said no thank you. She then suggested dessert raving about their “world famous butter cake” and a piece of chocolate flourless cake. We said fine, we will try those and she said great I’ll get those over to you right away. We waited another 15 minutes no cakes. We asked waiter for our check and after we paid, still no cakes. Again no apologies. We waited a little longer and finally left disgusted. We heard such great things about Meastro’s and were looking forward to dining there while in Palm Desert since 2 of us had never been to a Mastro’s however, ended up being a complete disappointment!
Hot Butter Cake!
I have had "Butter Cake" before....but this was a masterpiece of buttery heaven! This dessert was topped with vanilla ice cream and a yummy caramel drizzle and fresh fruit with a side of fresh whipped cream. It took me somewhere I've never been. The live music and attentive service was wonderful as well. Can't wait to visit again.
The total experience is not worth the trip.
The prices are too high for the experience. The parking is difficult unless you valet. The food is average. The restaurant is too dark. The dress code is too restrictive for the desert.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
