Marisol Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing brunch and the beignets are so scrumptious! They
Amazing brunch and the beignets are so scrumptious! They are great to share and come with an espresso creme sauce. I was here the other day and got the breakfast plate. The crispy house potatoes are really good. Marisol is a nice spot to dine, especially if you are also going to visit the museum or the gift shop. Overall great experience!
Excellent food: fresh products, excellent combinations and real nice service.
Excellent food: fresh products, excellent combinations and real nice service. We had humus and the Marisol salad. Both excellent and creative. Never had anything like that (and we eat lots of humus and salads). Fantastic!
Marisol is located inside the Museum of Contemporary Art.
I had been to the outdoor jazz a few Tuesday nights in the summer and enjoy the vibe around the MCA, so I was excited to try it. I was with a few friends, and we were seated by the colorful murals which was enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and gave good recommendations, but it was SUPER busy the Saturday we went. I think they forgot to put in the order because we kept getting told "a few more minutes" until almost an hour and a half had passed. We also ordered 2 appetizers but they never came so we just canceled the order. When the main course ultimately arrived, the staff apologized for the delay. I was relieved that the food was delicious. I ordered buttermilk pancakes, which had an incredibly fluffy texture and flavorful cinnamon butter on top--some of the best I've had in the city. I tried the breakfast plate as well which was okay overall but a tad overpriced for what you get. The potatoes were crispy and flavorful. I would've given this place a 4.5 for the food, ambiance, and staff but unfortunately the huge delay was a nuisance.
Consistently disappointing, seemingly by design.
My most recent experience was yesterday. After looking around the MCA galleries I went down hoping to have lunch at about 11:30. After waiting a bit for someone to approach and seat me, I was asked if I had a reservation. I said no and asked if I needed one gesturing to a plethora of empty tables....the restaurant was maybe 30% full, not counting the large side room which looked to be closed. The hostess clearly did not appreciate my questions and told me that they only had one server and it would be a 15-minute wait. I declined and stepped away. A couple approached after me and were promptly seated. I guess they had a coveted reservation. I took my business elsewhere and will continue to do so.
Tried the fixed price menu for restaurant week.
Excellent lentil soup (very creative) filling and tasty; Perfectly cooked cod with a flavorful sauce and shaved fennel on top. Chocolate dessert with a crema base very good. Table service was very excellent and pleasant. They got busy around 12:15. Make a reservation.
Marisol is one of my favorite restaurants in the Gold Coast
Marisol is one of my favorite restaurants in the Gold Coast with its fresh ingredients and unique menu. This was my second time coming to Marisol and I tried the brunch restaurant week menu. I chose the bagel and lox and the french toast. The bagel and lox was delicious and the bagel tasted homemade. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the french toast because it was a bit soggy from the sauce. I did try the short rib hash because me and my friend shared and that was amazing. I think overall it was a great experience but maybe pass on the french toast.
This place is criminally underrated.
I came to experience its brunch menu for restaurant week and was blown away. The food was spectacular for an amazing price. The cod with its mild flavor soaked all the richness and savory deliciousness of the braised butter bean. Each bite was delightful with a hint of fennel and the tartness of the green apple mojo was tantalizing and compelled me to savor every moment. Honestly this might be the first time that I could genuinely feel the food dancing on my tastebuds. I'd love to come back here and try their full menu, and the fact that it's tucked inside the MCA makes it a perfect date on Tuesdays.
Located in same building as Museum of Contemporary Art
Located in same building as Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. We were served by the wonderful Matty. He was amazing, attentive and helpful. Answer our zillion questions with patience and kindness. Crispy fried chicken sandwich with calamansi aioli. MCA burger is cheesy havarti on challah bread with their secret sauce. Steam Mussels is fresh in tomato and pancetta. Delivered fresh daily.
Went for brunch.
Really interesting brunch options like polenta and this avocado latke. I was between the latke and the breakfast sandwich the waiter said the latke was his favorite so I went with it. It was delicious and unique! It looks small but was filling. However, pairing it with the beignets for the table was a good call. Just a little pricey ($18). Would come back again! Love the aesthetic of the place too.
A Lovely Lunch
We went here during our visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art. The food was probably the best we have every had at museum or gallery in the US. We frequently enjoy our lunches at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, which is pretty good but this takes it to new level. the chicken soup with orzo was delicious, the red oak salad was very fine and fresh and their riff on humus was outstanding -- especially the lax seed cracker.
Incredible customer service to accompany the elegant
Incredible customer service to accompany the elegant interior and tasty brunch. Ian made our experience great with their welcoming energy, knowledge on the menu, and provided helpful recommendations. Pastries were amazing with a warm latte and great ambiance overall.
Private room is a great place for a group dinner.
Staff is amazing and the food worthy of the art museum setting. I think the first course- with sunflower hummus and incredible crackers may have been my fave. Roasted carrots, no longer on the regular menu, were also amazing. Soughdough pasta was freshly made, perfectly cooked, served with yummy hen of the wood mushrooms which seem to be showing up on menus more often lately. Marisol salad and branzino were just ok. But the kitchen came back strong with an incredible chocolate-passionfruit tart topped with crunchy crumbles and a honeycomb cookie- wow, just wow.

Visiting for the weekend and came upon this restaurant inside the Contemporary Art Museum building. Was seated right away and our server Ian was amazing. I had a fabulous plate of pancakes with cinnamon butter, the turmeric pastry of the day and I was treated to a birthday ice cream surprise! Made my birthday even more special!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
