Candle Lit Heaven
Once again, show me a steakhouse and I'll show you all the fantastic seafood options! Maple & Ash has a romantic and sexy ambiance, complete with white tablecloths and candlelight. I don't think there is an electric light in the place. Helmed by two-Michelin-star Chef Danny Grant, the menu delivers exquisitely presented wood-fired dishes, complemented by a world-renowned wine selection recognized by Wine Spectator. Protip: grab a drink in the bar downstairs before heading upstairs to dinner. Here's what we had. HAMACHI CRUDO golden beet, wild citrus, habanero & cilantro YELLOWFIN TUNA TARTARE avocado, crispy shallots, mango & chili oil WOOD-GRILLED SPANISH OCTOPUS confit marbled potatoes, saffron rouille & herb salsa BRIOCHE CRUSTED HALIBUT Salsify, escargot, chervil, & veloute The service was impeccable. Loved it!

It is ok but mostly over the top! Lamb Chops $79.00 dollars & you have to order sides separately. 4 small lamb chops! Really! You can go to LongHorn steakhouse & get the Lamb Chops & 2 sides as a meal for under $30.00 dollars.
Be the first to ReplyWell Done Maple & Ash
Booked last minute reservations, couldn't get into the dining room so we booked the patio. I'm sure the dining room is amazing, but I have to say I thought the atmosphere and general vibe of the patio was perfect. Food was outstanding, service was fantastic, and everything about the experience was exactly what we hoped for. My wife and I are city people who now find ourselves in the middle of nowhere (that's North Dakota if you are wondering), and when we make it back to civilization we are always looking for great "city" experience...Maple & Ash delivered and reminded us both how much we miss the urban life.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful, BUT…..
Went for our 50th anniversary dinner. Food was spectacular!! Presentation, service was amazing. Loved it!! But the music was horrible!!!! Sounded like a record from the 60’s with a needle that was stuck, playing the same 3-4 bars of music all night…. Throbbing awful music. It would add a lot to the experience if the background music was easy to listen to. We did love it, though. Food was just over the top delish. We did the “ I don’t give a F*@k” menu. Delish😊

Where to begin…ok, stay with me here, it’ll be worth it! The food was outstanding! Steak was cooked to perfection, sides were delicious and the wait staff was excellent. Billed as one of the best dining experiences in Chicago we were all excited to partake of its excellence. When we got a text about their strict dress code we felt we were guaranteed a fantastic outing. Now, for the reality of the situation. The tables were stacked one on top of the other like a fast food establishment with no designated walkways for wait staff or customers, resulting in being constantly brushed. The music they played was more akin to what you would hear in a bar and was so loud it made talking extremely difficult mandating near shouting to be heard. The dress code was non-existent! We felt like we were in a pick-up bar with woman showing their wares. Haven’t seen so little clothes and so much flesh since Times Square in NYC years ago.! The table behind us had 4 young men (30s) that were shouting, cursing and being genuinely obnoxious. Nobody did anything! We had to speak with them about lowering their voices and watching their language. For the amount of money we spent we (all 4 of us) felt truly robbed. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, find another place, (using the word “restaurant” would be way too kind).
Be the first to ReplyA strange night at a visual bordello…
Maple & Ash If you looking for loud, loud blaring music. Chairs and tables set in aisle ways. Cash registered directly behind where customs sit. If you seek a very high priced pick-up bar available on not just one but both floors effectively eliminating any hope for a reasonable opportunity to talk and be heard, or to listen to others, (including the wait staff). Then you are going to simply love M&A! On the other hand. If you believe a fine dining experience should allow family, friends, or business associates to be able to communicate freely without shouting at each other. If you believe tables should not be stacked across natural aisle ways. If you think cash registers should not be run in tight aisle ways immediately behind seated patrons. If you also believe that when management goes out of its way to publish a rather rigorous dress code, but then allows everyone to broach it to the point of young ladies dressed in bordello black leather with as much legally as can be exposed, (along with others in unmissable micro-mini skirts, etc.,), then your probably going to be very dissatisfied with your evenings choice - to put it mildly and very respectfully. In its credit the fillet mignon was great, and the sides and wine selection very well done and chosen. But our server couldn’t even be heard trying to explain the menu options. It didn’t help either that we had some young drunk customers behind us, one with a loud shrill laugh you’d expect in a comedy movie. Staff simply chose ignored it (or maybe they couldn’t actually hear the outbursts!). When we finally tried to ask them to tone it down, (mind you it is hard to explain how loud they where since this place thanks to the music was very, very loud everywhere) one man tried touching my shoulders and my back and then saying “shhh…” and all the rest of the verbal nonsense that usually goes with debouched drunken revelry. This is a very expensive restaurant. If you are led to believe one set of things by reading managements on-line policy (as we did packing our appropriate attire for our flight since we were here to enjoy the best of Chicago), but then find you you’ve been made the fool of…well…you’re not going to be please or very happy. If however in all fairness you seek a restaurant with no atmosphere, no decorum, that attracts others that seem to be gravitated by its complete lack of adherence to their own proclamations on propriety and personal tire, then this place will certainly satisfy no end and was quite the visual circus! Our advise: avoid!!!
Be the first to ReplyHip, elegant and fun with amazing food
My husband and I had dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. This place is a combo of hip and elegant with a topping of fun! We had a great experience starting from making the booking with Alicia - we consulted her for a good table selection since we had not dined her before, and we were seated in the atrium. So beautiful and elegant with candelabras on every table! Then we had amazing service from Dario who made delicious suggestions from the menu. My favorite was the octopus! We also consulted with Jesse the sommelier who made excellent suggestions on wine for every course. The experience was fantastic from start to finish - I highly recommend Maple & Ash!
Be the first to ReplyBad service mediocre food
Service is slow and inattentive. The bathrooms stink. Steak was good, but the Mac and cheese was overly salted and the corn was bad. Go to Swift & Sons, RPM steak, or Bavette’s instead. This place is trendy, but it’s missing the mark.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience.
We were recommend this restaurant and we had no idea what to expect but it exceeded all of our expectations. It is pricey but just go for it. We did the I don’t give a f$&k menu and I will do it again next time we come. Thank you for an amazing night
Be the first to ReplyDelicious brunch in Chicago
Excellent spot with, for once, a very welcome dress code preventing people to show up in top tank and bermudas. Great initiative. Delicious seafood selection, grilled at very high temperature. Absolutely fabulous piece of beef, melting in mouth. Great wine list. Above all perfect service by Serio Rodriguez who really bring an added value to the experience

This is a new favorite for us!! I had the sea food tower and my wife had the lobster Mac…amazing!!!! The restaurant and atmosphere are super trendy. 5-stars!!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Dining Experience
Came here on the 2nd January whilst on a 5 night trip to Chicago. I have to say I think this was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Everything was amazing, staff, location, ambience, atmosphere, food, drinks. It is expensive, so maybe save it for a special occasion. But there are some cheaper options if you wanted to do that. I always show the wine I actually want when ordering so there aren't any confusions. You must order the spinach, I've never tasted anything like it before. But this is definitely a 100% recommendation.
Be the first to ReplyOvercharged us for a $500 bottle of wine!
Wanted to treat my daughter and her boyfriend that were in early for Thanksgiving. I made reservations for 1118/22 and prepaid the $100 pp deposit. I brought two bottles of very nice wine for our dinner. Imagine my shock at the final bill when it was $500 OVER what was expected. Looked at the bill closely and found that they had charged me for a bottle of wine THAT WE NEVER ORDERED. I brought it to our waiter's attention and was told that the sommelier had charged us for a bottle by mistake. I waited for a profuse apology for the MAJOR mistake and received none. If I had not checked the bill, we would have paid close to $600 over the cost of our meal. I called and asked to speak with the general manager, and as of yet, no one has returned my call. I used to think going to Maple and Ash was quite the treat - but I would urge people to stay away unless you want to be cheated out of a LOT of money. Very frustrating. DO NOT GO.
Be the first to ReplyTop Experience
I wanted to try a classic but current Chicago steakhouse, & multiple sources recommended Maple & Ash. It’s a high end affair, located in the posh pants Gold Coast neighbourhood. I reserved online which involves committing to a $100 per person spend, a sum frittered through in no time with entry level steaks priced at $60. An alternative is ….. their ‘ I don’t give a F*@K’ menu, which for $200 per person, you hand yourself over to their choice from their finest offering for that evening. Such showy excess initially put me right off, but over the course of a weeks’ stay in Chicago, talking to waiters, concierges, etc, the recommendations for M & A kept coming. I’m really glad they did because I had a superb meal & a fantastic experience overall. I found greeters & waiting staff welcoming & down to earth, & service efficient, attentive & devoid of upsell. My waiter advised on how my steak should be cooked & was spot on. Delicious. It’s a buzzy, happening spot, moodily lit, & packed out, even early doors on a wintery Monday night. Tables are white clothed & candle lit, & the vibe upscale but unstuffy, with a pleasantly banging, though not overbearing, soundtrack. The wine list has plenty on offer for zillionaires, but also plentiful, comparatively modest options (wines by the glass start around $16 ). There’s no denying it’s a spendy joint, but in my experience, it was well worth the splurge - for food quality, service, setting & ambience.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food, subpar service for price
Dined to celebrate a birthday. Very busy and energetic on a Sunday evening. Food was very good. Octopus, steak, and sweet potatoes were standouts. Apple pie dessert also good. The service for the price of food was subpar. I expected a lot better. Wine glasses sat empty for a while. Server was good not great. Place is very popular and that may effect service. Even the restrooms were unkempt. Great food but they have work to do. Appreciated the custom birthday menu but not everyone uses expletives. We couldn’t enjoy the complimentary gesture. Suggest adding options for birthday greetings or using one less offensive.
Be the first to ReplyTurned out to be not our type of fancy restaurant
This turned out not to be our kind of restaurant but other people appeared to be having a fabulous time. Its all very hip, very loud and very expensive. I just don't like having to yell at my dinner companions all night over thumping disco music while eating a $100+ steak. This is for the 20s and 30s professional single crowd, not millionaires who appreciate a sophisticated, quiet meal. Service was great, food was great, atmosphere, oh well. But we love Chicago!!!!
Be the first to ReplyMichelin quality
The sushi was absolutely to die for. SoCal quality. And the steak was cook to perfection. The staff was extremely friendly and fun. I’m making this my regular spot for a good night out. Meal: custom roll by chef, fillet minion, king crab roll, and a half dozen oysters.
Be the first to ReplyGold Coast Gem with amazing architecture and ambiance
Loved this place. Tons of freebies, starting with a sweet vodka drink. The espresso martini was delish. Try the octopus and meatballs for the app. The starter salads are huge and split-able. The a la cart scallops were amazing and served in a garlic lemon sauce and my table mates enjoyed the filet and a 22 oz ribeye (which they couldn’t finish). The family style au gratin potatoes were hot, cheesy and had a nice crisp top. The brussel sprouts were just ok and luke warm. The architecture and decor of the building was amazing, we dined up on the third floor. People were celebrating special occasions, there were couples out to dinner, and it was very lively and really loud. Service was impeccable. The tables had retro candle operas lit with wax candles. Even after I spilled a drink on the table the staff showed up out of nowhere to clean up my mess like nothing happened. Whoops. Would highly recommend for a fun night out. Plan on dropping a few dollars to enjoy this place for sure!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic steak house
Dinner with my daughter, last night in Chicago after road trip to Canada. This restaurant easily passes as one of the best I´ve been to in Chicago. The bartender mixed my favourite "mule" and hit the mark on first attempt! Dinner was a gourmet experience, starting with complimentary cocktail and appetizer at the table. Shrimp cocktail a bit unconventional, but so good! Steak was served perfectly prepared. The Pommes Frites were the best I´ve eaten since I lived in Belgium (home of the fries!). When in Chicago do not miss out on Maple & Ash. I certainly will not.
Be the first to ReplyI wasn’t impressed.
When I go to a high end steak house I really expect to get a "wow" factor when my food comes.
I got the bone in rib-eye ( my all time favorite) with the mashed potatoes and my wife got the scallops.
The steak and potatoes didn't have any real special flavor that made me feel like I would want to come back. As far as my wife's scallops the best thing she said was I made better ones at home.
The atmosphere was great and our host, Joe, was awesome, he made the night special.
But for us, there was nothing that made us want to come back, only want us to go home and fire up my grill.
Sorry Amber and Ash.
Fabulous Brunch
Wow! What an excellent brunch. We were on a girls weekend from DC and on the way out of Chicago, we had the good fortune to get invited here. It was so tasty. I had the truffle omelet and it was delicious. The family style side were amazing. It’s a meal that should be experienced!
Be the first to ReplyAverage just Okay
I've been here a few times and it's hit or miss. Food is also hit or miss, guess it depends on who's in the kitchen. Very loud atmosphere and staff is inattentive/not following COVID-19 protocols. Not worth the money, especially with so many other options in the area. Only good thing about this place is the meatballs, not what anyone wants to hear when you're paying $300 for food.
Be the first to ReplyA perfect experience, arrival to departure
My business associate arranged a great table upstairs, and our server was super attentive all evening. There were 5 of us, so we started with the "Baller" hot seafood platter. OMG I was in heaven! 4 of us ordered steaks and all were prepared as requested. I enjoyed the Steak Frites, especially because they use NY Strip for it. Much more tender than the usual flank steak. Sides were all well prepared. Wine list offered reasonable (under $100) options, and the Penfolds Cabernet/Shiraz blend, at $80, was delicious. Great people watching.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a pity of the overcooked ribeye
Everything was absolutely delicious except the main item, the ribeye. Our bill was 970USD for 4 people, that included 2 bottles of wine of roughly 100 USD each all in. So food bill of 800$. For that you can demand perfection. Unfortunately the steak was overcooked which in my book is almost a crime. For the rest everything perfect.
Be the first to Reply“I’ll Be Back”
This is an absolutely amazing restaurant! I’ve been to all the best in town, and but for it being a bit too loud, it’s awesome. I highly recommend you build a seafood tower and order the bone in rib-eye. Share it and enjoy!
