I came in one day when j was feeling slightly under the weather. I wanted a nice soup where broth is cooked with bones to help keep feel better. Time of day: dinner Service: staff was very attentive and kind. I had a big purse that i had placed on the seat beside me. As the bar started to fill up, the host offered to stash my purse in the cupboard at the host stand for me. Very kind. Ambiance: inviting, modern. I came during early dinner time and was easily able to get a seat at the bar though it did start to get busy throughout the evening. Drink (N/A): i had an apple flavored cream soda. Very tasty Food: for the appetizer i had their chicken ginger soup dumplings. These were very good and had a big pop of flavor. 4 in an order. My meal came out about 5 minutes after my appetizer so i didn't have much time to enjoy. For my meal, i had their Cambodian pho with chicken. Now this pho was PHENOMENAL. The broth was super rich and you can taste the chicken in it as well as all the spices. It's a huge bowl with LOTS of chicken. It's similar to Vietnamese pho but has slightly different stronger flavors that i really appreciated. It is served with a savory donut that is so good when dipped into the broth . On the side you will receive hoisin and sriracha as well.

This is my favorite spot for business dinners and did not slack this time. We both had the spicy beef bowl and shared the leek bao (my favorite dish in all of DC). Flavors were on point today, service was extremely quick, and the room was not too loud for our conversation. Will continue to come here for my future meetings.

Maketto has become my go-to spot, and for good reason - their consistent quality of food and service is simply unmatched. No matter how many times I've dined here, I'm always impressed by the exceptional experience they deliver. The shrimp dumplings and shrimp fried rice are absolute must-tries - bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. And let's not forget about the drinks - whether I'm in the mood for a latte to start my day or a cocktail to wind down, Maketto delivers with their amazing beverage selection. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere that sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience. Whether you're a regular like me or it's your first time, Maketto never disappoints.

I'm so glad we came across the DC episode of Somebody Feed Phil just a couple of weeks before our trip. This is my husband's first visit to the city. Although it's my 3rd, my 1st visit was almost 30 years ago and my recent 2nd visit was for a short conference and everything was arranged so it did not count. We had no idea where we would eat until we watched the episode. Maketto was one of the places featured. It looked good and a reservation was made! It was very easy for us to reach the restaurant in the H Street NE neighbourhood via Metro Rail and the DC Streetcar from The Mall. After spending an entire day walking the length of The Mall and visiting the Capitol and the National Gallery of Art, we were eager for a nice and leisure dinner so we opted for a table in the courtyard near the back of the restaurant. We felt relaxed as soon as we sat down. Our server José was extremely helpful providing us recommendations. Someone who I think is the owner came by more than a few times, too. We ordered: 1. Crispy Gruyère Dumplings, 2. Cambodian Noodle Salad with Pork, 3. Cambodian Style Pho with Chicken, and 4. Drunken Shrimp Fried Rice Did we order too much? YES! But did I regret it? NO because they were soooo good. First came the gooey cheesy dumpings. They were perfectly paired with a spicy chunky beef sauce. José told us it's the same sauce they use for the Spicy Beef and Rice Bowl (topped with a fired egg). I could eat that every day. Then it was a fried rice. When we saw the portion, we knew we would be in trouble. The aroma and flavour were so addictive that we stopped ourselves from consuming the whole dish to make room for the rest of our order and I'm glad we did. The noodle salad was refreshing. The soup base of the pho was light with a slight tang but also rich in flavour. Both had very generous portions of their respective protein. I'm glad there was a good balance of dark and white meats in the pho and the white meats were very tender. We packed the rest of the noodle salad and fried rice to go. I tried to finish the pho but my gut was already sticking out an inch further than half an hour before so I stopped. I'm looking at the leftover fried rice in the hotel room now and I think I'm hungry again!

Came back to eat at Maketto after a few years and had a much better experience. This time we had: - Chicken wings (4/5) - Really large wings with great flavorful crispy breading and tasty sauce. - Cambodian noodle salad (3/5) - Just ok, nothing special - Shrimp dumplings (3/5) - Not bad, but essentially an average har gow - Half Peking duck (5/5) - The undisputed highlight of the meal, this actually captured some of the essence of real Peking duck. The meat was moist and flavorful, and there was a massive tray of cold accompaniments, some of which didn't make a lot of sense, but it's totally choose your own adventure. - Coconut egg tarts (4.5/5) - Cocktails (4/5) The vibe inside is great, and the service was excellent as well. We got waaay too much food for two people and totally could've been full from just the chicken and duck. We'll definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyService was slow however, food was on good.
Will come back to visit the next time Iʻm in DC.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for restaurant week.
.. flavor and quality of food blew my socks off. Taiwanese fried chicken is a must. Also waiter complimented my man's shoes... great move.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place.
They were super accommodating for our large group which included children and teenagers. The kids absolutely loved the food as did we. The chicken dish is LARGE so be prepared to share or take home for left overs.

This place is in a weird shop like thing but the food is amazing! It's fresh flavorful and unique.
Be the first to ReplyThe shrimp fried rice was very tasty.
There were red pepper flakes that gave it a kick but still very delicious.
Be the first to ReplyHad an amaaaazing lunch at Maketto.
Definitely some of the best food we have had in DC so far. The shrimp dumplings were great. The mushroom Bao was delicious. Fried chicken was superb. It comes with rice. The pho was very good. Cauliflower and scallion pancakes were amazing too. The tofu noodle salad was really light and refreshing. We can't wait to go back and try more!
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite spot to do an early work dinner.
The music is on point, definitely if you are an indie neo-soul, alternative, music type of animal. I swear I fell in love with Solange's "When I Get Home" album all over again while I was there, noshing on Crystal Shrimp dumplings that were very good. So many wine and cocktail selections to choose from like a rarity I had, which was a cross breed between a lemon drop with apple cider vinegar, and a few other tricks. The chicken sandwich is serious business, I think they stole this breast from Big Bird, the photo does it no justice, it is HUGE. The coating is thick and crunchy, fried in sweet potato flour, then glazed with a sweet and sticky 5 spice sauce. If you want to sample the Maketto Fried Chicken I highly recommend the sandwich. I love the weeknights and my window view of the outside courtyard. Thank you for being amazing Maketto!
Be the first to ReplyQuality food.
The vibes on the first floor seemed better than the vibes on the second. Food was very oily (both dishes). Service is attentive as far as water refills goes, but it's a QR code ordering place otherwise. It has a good vegan selection -- the scallion pancakes were a highlight. The rice was well cooked in the tofu stir fry, and the vegetables were fresh. I think the dish could've been aided by toasted cashews!

I recommend the soy milk+fried tough, egg tart(dessert) and lo Mein. The Lo Mein comes in big portion and it's tastes really good. This is kinda an Asian fusion restaurant. I recommend booking in advance. However, it is not special enough for me to pay another visit.

Had a lovely dinner with a friend here before a theater performance at the Atlas. The weather was warm enough that we asked to eat on the patio. Everything --atmosphere, the service and the food were all excellent. We shared two appetizers and some low mein and couldn't have enjoyed it more.
Be the first to ReplyGenerally I love this place.
Today I came in for lunch and it was a little disappointing. I got spicy tofu and Cambodian noodles with pork. I found the tofu a bit boring, the noodles and pork were fairly bland. The cortado I ordered was great though.

We had the bao buns, chicken sandwich, pork belly sandwich, and chicken lo mein. Everything was very flavorful and the service was great. The sauce in the lo mein had a wonderful, savory ginger flavor, and the bao had a great texture with a well-seasoned shredded pork filling. They also gave us a small dessert and candle for our birthday celebration.

WOW! One of my favs Asian meal! Caution, this is not authentic, but tastes wonderful. Service was amazing, Maia was incredibly attentive and really fun to talk to, despite busy night. Deserves that top 100 Washingtonian award.Ambiance is a vibe and very chic On to the food, Cambodian pork shoulder is light and had a perfect texture and flavor pork. The Maketto fried chicken might have been the best fried chicken I ever had. The breading and chicken flavor was incredibly flavorful. I was give. Free egg custard because I was celebrating, and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyI've gone here a couple times.
Always enjoyed it. The spicy Thai fried chicken is my go to. It's a cool space with a cool vibe. I'll be back soon!

Great food - 10 of us went and everyone enjoyed the variety of foods and ease of (QR code table) ordering and billing per family. Service was fast and servers friendly and knowledgeable. Wish we lived closer- would go often!

4.5 stars for a great find on H Street, NE. I had a couple of hours to spare before my train and a Zoom meeting to listen in on so I landed at Maketto based on online insights. I made a reservation and was greeted very warmly by name by the owner? host? who attentively referenced my name in each subsequent interaction. I started with an Asian twist on a pisco sour, with lemongrass, which was very tasty. For food, I randomly went with several small plates so I could sample broadly. The oysters were yummy, as they almost always are. The pork bun was terrific, light on the dough side and just right on the pork filling and hoisin sauce on the plate. The shrimp dumplings were similarly excellent. The spicy cauliflower was good, but not amazing. It wasn't all that spicy and the sauce was underwhelming. A beautiful minimalist space even with books and sneakers for sale along the side of the dining room. Very warm and welcoming service and an impressively diverse mix of customers. Great spot, DC!
Be the first to ReplyMaketto is a great restaurant on H St NE.
Our table had a plethora of dishes to share throughout the duration of the meal. Beer selection was okay, but you come to dine at Maketto for the food. Some of the dishes we ate included: fried chicken, shrimp fried rice, bao buns, and pho. Everything was delicious. The star of the night was the fried chicken served on homemade bread. I would dine here again solely for the chicken. Parking in the area is difficult to find, so metro to Union Station and walk, or you can use a ride sharing service to get here.

There once was the time when Maketto produced some excellent quality egg tarts. But the past two orders have come out in a watery mess. What happened? What is going on? Someone please turn on the EBY bat signal to have him return and conduct a quality control review.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is amazing, so much flavor.
The atmosphere is chill, I loved all the art work and beautiful pieces for sale. Service is thru an ordering platform, personally I like having a waiter/waitress.. but service works smoothly here.
