Mabel's San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Damn, the Spanish G and T went down quickly.
A really fun night, with great food. Squid salad-a plethora of flavors, the bread is not to be missed with the excellent salted butter. Pan con tomato-each bite so flavorful. You can't lose if you order ham or cheese. Waitress went above and beyond and was incredibly kind. Quite plentiful servings for small plates, so much so that we took home the Basque cheesecake for later because it looked like something that should not be missed.
We really enjoyed the experience.
The Spanish G&T was absolutely delicious. The wine list is not that extensive. My husband was served a fermented wine of some sort. The server kept asking him if he wanted to taste it first but failed to explain that it was not a normal wine. It was promptly returned. The food was delicious and very flavorful. We had the squid salad, the sea bass which was a generous portion. We took home the basque cheesecake which was very creamy and light. Small place but they pack them in. We had a reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. We will go back.
Went last night to Mabel's.
The food was so good, literally every dish we ordered. The giganta beans were amazing, yes beans. The service was also top notch and the staff was so friendly. I highly recommend Mabel's. Loved it!
Went here on a Friday night during summer.
The place is crazy busy. We had a reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes to get a table. This is very much a tapas place. No real main dishes. We had the chorizo/cheese, fresh salad, fried sea bass and the basque cheese cake. The food was tasty and came out at a good pace. The cocktail and wine list is rather limited and not crazy about the wine selection. This is a great gem in North Park but it's noisy and very busy.
Had an amazing time at the Bar, had a delicious dinner.
Everything we ordered was on point! Muscles escabeche a must. Also the bartender was awesome!
Super Wow! Cocktails, Wine, Small Plates.
Thank you Danny and Luna, chef and team...amazing, as usual!
We had amazingly delicious dinner here.
Wonderful staff, very busy restaurant with inside & some outside seating. We love shareable meals. We had smoked fish sandwich, tortilla espanola, grilled fish, squid salad, summer squash. Fun, casual and relaxed atmosphere.
It feels like you're stepping into Spain when you walk in
It feels like you're stepping into Spain when you walk in here they have a fantastic selection of vermouth and gin cocktails. The mussels were delicious. Staff was very kind and attentive. A gem in North Park!

We didn't expect to sit at the "bar" facing the chefs since we made a reservation well in advance but it was a cool experience seeing them cook! The food was amazing. It was hard to pick a favorite as everything was truly delicious and unique. The swordfish was to die for and our server brought out bread when we finished it so we could finish the sauce - it was that good!
Really great experience.
Good variety of food, all of it delicious. Good drinks, better dessert. We especially liked the cheese, the swordfish, and the affogato. Service was very welcoming. Felt like they were happy we were there, which is not as common a feeling as it used to be.
Awesome place.
Great food and service. I highly recommend this place. Everything we tried was delicious and fresh.
The food here was wonderful.
My rule for eating out is that it has to be better than anything I could cook at home & this definitely delivered. If you aren't a fan of seafood, I'd suggest finding another place to eat. Their swordfish was so delicious and cooked to perfection. We did the tasting plate which came with 4 courses. I recommend this option so you can taste more of the menu. It started with some of their starter plates including assorted olives, marinated muscles, the house smoked mackerel (which came with fresh lemon and was bursting with savory flavor), and stuffed dates. Then came the delicious apple and cheddar salad & Kampachi (YUMM). Then the swordfish, which came with a sauce and was cooked perfectly. And lastly the most flavorful toasted caramel tasting cheesecake. I am not a fan of cheesecake but that was irresistible!
One of the best raw bar places you can go to.
Super fresh oysters and they have great cheeses. I also had their quiche with cavier which was pretty good to try once but not what I would usually get. The staff was nice and if you don't know what to get, they have amazing recommendations. Definately would come again
Note to self: next time arrive towards the end of happy
Note to self: next time arrive towards the end of happy hour (4-5 pm) for half-priced oysters by the dozen and discounted craft cocktails, then stay past 6 for dinner! On this occasion, we arrived on the dot at 4 and filled up on snacks (also delicious so really no regrets ;) so only had room for dessert once the full menu opened. I'm a gin fan and thought my Spanish G and T (Nordes, lemon, grape, sage) was outrageously good, while even my "had a bad gin experience in college" dining companion enjoyed his Rotating G and T (Jin Jiji India Dry, lemon, clove, mint), both featuring Mabel's house-made tonic. 3 each of Swinomish, Blue Pool, Calm Cove, and Kushi oysters from the Daily Selection had me in slurp heaven, and the Mussels Escabeche (smoked paprika, grilled sourdough, aioli) and Stuffed Dates (Jamon Serrano, almonds) were terrific as well. We finished with a Basque Cheesecake (cajeta) and Chocolate Mousse (pine nuts, puffed farro) which complemented each other well as the first was less sweet and the second more so. Service was attentive without being overbearing and the ambiance casual yet inviting.
Finally got the chance to try this place out.
Sat at the bar with a friend because all the tables were unavailable (despite making a reservation well in advance). I love the dim-lit, swanky, sultry vibe of this place. The bartenders were also the nicest and most attentive I've ever came across. I was a bit disappointed that we made it clear we were celebrating a birthday, but they didn't do anything to acknowledge it. Drinks: lots of gin-based options. I got the gimlet and the dry G+T. Also tried a bit of the El Niño and negroni. The drinks do take a minute to prepare because they are hand crafted with lots of care to order. However, I found that they were weak and very watered/sugared down, especially for drinks they described as "spirit-forward." I don't think they were worth $16-17 a cocktail at all. Food: will have to go back to try, but it smelled and looked delicious from what I saw on other patrons' plates!! Definitely the spot for seafood. Vibe: great for an intimate date night!!
Great North Park location that is the perfect date night
Great North Park location that is the perfect date night spot, with great lighting and music! They have the best oysters and they are perfectly shucked. Anna was super helpful and attentive bartender and provided us with a n/a cocktails. Love the bar seating!
This place is a joke.
We ordered two dishes and both lacked any type of cooking skills. For the "Jamon Serrano" they simply purchased prosciutto and bread from third parties, arranged it on a plate and charged us 3x the cost or more. Likewise the mussels dish was underwhelming. They poured some chile oil over mussels and that was it. Wish I never came here. Also cocktail selection sucks! Waste of money and time.
If I could give this 3.
5 stars, I would. With the exception of the dates, the food was fine or quite good. The service was friendly but with that tinge of elitism that makes you feel like you don't belong. I had the trout--not my usual choice in fish, as I have only had it in the days when my father would drag me fishing and we'd cook and eat it later. I was surprised that Mabel's trout was pink, and asked if that was normal. The waiter gave me one of those exhausted looks and said simply, "yes, it's normal." I've since looked it up and know that pink is the sign of a healthy diet in a trout. Taking a moment to explain that to me would have gone a long way. The smoked potatoes were excellent, as other reviewers noted, as were the oysters. The dates had a mealy quality I would not have expected at a restaurant in this price range. The fish was prepared well and the most of the interactions with service was fine.

Come along with Mabel for a delightful seaside trip full of oceanic goodies! San Diego is a prime location to enjoy seafood from both local and international waters. With its Iberian-inspired flavors, Mabel's has escaped the ho-hum of tuna tartare, crudo, and overpriced seafood towers and emerged with interesting new options. My partner and I made a reservation for a belated Valentine's Day dinner. At 7 PM on a weeknight, the restaurant was pretty full, so we were seated at the counter, where we had a prime view of the goings-on in the kitchen. We marveled at the ability of the chefs to peacefully and efficiently execute the range of dishes on the menu. None of that "get the f- off my expo line chef," which, while also entertaining, would have made for a far less welcoming experience. This was also a good way for us to have a peek at what the dishes looked like to guide our ordering process. The menu is large enough to offer a variety of options, but not so large that it causes decision paralysis. We started with the mussels escabeche [$16] and stuffed dates [$10]. The mussels were plump and accompanied by grilled sourdough and aioli. I felt the presentation was a little casual- even if not meant to be eaten, a little garnish would elevate it. The stuffed dates were pretty good, and maybe an idea I'll have to steal for future dinner parties. Next up, the gambas al ajillo [$22 + $2 for optional bread] and grilled swordfish [$38]. Regarding the gambas, I expected the traditional appearance of this popular Spanish dish but was surprised to receive a plate of fried shrimp and flavors that, thanks to the chili oil and chives, tasted very familiar. It felt closer to the salt-and-pepper shrimp found in Chinese restaurants, but this is definitely not a criticism of the dish. This was one of our favorite dishes, and as someone who eats shrimp shells (sorry!), hearing that the shells on these were meant to be edible earned it some brownie points. Since it wasn't the traditional presentation, in the end, the bread was not really necessary, but too much bread is never an issue. I was a little nervous about the swordfish since this meaty fish can be overcooked, but the focus of the chef grilling the fish that night inspired a lot of confidence. Indeed, the swordfish was perfectly cooked! We liked this dish a lot; it was a good portion for sharing, and the treviso and saffron béarnaise added some interesting dimensions to the plate. While we were starting to become full by this point, we forged on with a plate of Chorizo Ibérico [$14] and smoked trout rillettes [$16]. I'm not a big 'rizo girlie, but I want to say that adding an olive oil drizzle was an understated yet impactful positive decision. On the other hand, I am a big fan of fish rillettes, and Mabel's interpretation did not disappoint. After this, we were absolutely stuffed... but we had to try the Basque cheesecake that was so well-received by reviewers. We conquered about a third of it before tapping out. In reflection, I think one area for improvement is offering other carbs besides the sourdough. Don't get me wrong, I love bread (love isn't a big enough word to encapsulate my feelings for bread), but 3 of the dishes we ordered had this sourdough and I admit I did feel a bit overwhelmed. For drinks, we shared the vermut rojo [$10] and blanco [$12]. I was craving the former since my last trip to Spain, and excited to try the latter as it's a one-of-a-kind offering composed with locally foraged botanicals. We also tried the Barcelona v. Real Madrid [$16], mostly due to the name. Since this is explicitly a gin-focused venue, I won't knock it too much, but I also wish there were a couple more gin-less cocktail options. Our waitress was friendly, approachable, and patient as we sorted through our choices from the menu. She was always available to take our additional orders but never intrusive. Subjectively, I would describe Mabel's as Good (and good is great!). Nothing really blew me away, but every dish was well-executed and enjoyable. It's not boring by any means; it's not too out-there; the kitchen runs like a well-oiled machine and executes its menu confidently and diligently. I know this movement is on its way out, but this restaurant is especially great for those looking for a more elevated Girl Dinner. Our appetites have been whetted, and we are already planning our next visit!

How have I never been here before?! We had reservations and were a couple minutes early. The host let us know our table was wrapping up and they had us wait in their event space. It was super comfortable and they took our drink orders. To drink, I wanted a glass of wine and the server recommended the Bical/Arinto. It was really good! Light and crisp. Just a few minutes later we were seated at our table. Our server came and went through the menu with us. Everything was tapas style or shareable. We started with the olives, bread and butter, and mussels eacabeche. The mussels were soo good! Everyone loved them! For the main, we got the grilled swordfish and smoked potatoes. The smoked potatoes were incredible! You could fully taste the smokiness in the potatoes! The clams on toast had garlic and tomatoes that made it super flavorful. For dessert, we got an affogato and a carajillo. The carajillo was super impressive! It was served and it looked more like an old fashioned but was soo delicious! Perfect way to end the meal!
Nice Dinner at Mabel's Gone Fishing
Mabel’s Gon Fishing had been recommended by a few of my work friends so we decided to have a family dinner there. It fit the bill as a trendy North Park restaurant. The food was very good and the service excellent. I look forward to going back. There is a small parking lot in the back, but we ended up parking on the street a few blocks away. We had an early reservation so were seated right away. Our waiter Kevin turned out to be very efficient and informative. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some very nice wine recommendations. Attentive without hovering. The signature Spanish Gin and Tonic was worth it. Light and refreshing. But be careful… We were glad we decided to go with the Chef’s Tasting Menu. The initial course included Spanish olives, Mussels Escabeche and House Smoked Mackerel, and Jamon wrapped dates. The Mackerel melted in your mouth. The problem with the dates was that there were not more of them. The Sword fish steak was good as a main, but the smoked potatoes stole the show, the best that I have ever had. Finally, dessert was Basque Cheesecake. Not as sweet as the American version and a bit fluffier, very nice. The bathrooms were clean and well lit. I would have to say that tab seemed a little on the high side, but we all decided that the easy atmosphere, excellent service and very tasty food made it worth the experience.
GREAT SEAFOOD
Excellent seafood, and a welcome addition to San Diego's restaurant lineup. Smoked mackerel was tender and flavorful, served on very good sourdough bread. Ocean trout was equally good, cooked perfectly, just slightly rare. And Basque cheesecake was as smooth as NY cheesecake but with the added flavor of a caramelized sauce under it. My only disappointment was the cocktail, as the gimlet tasted nothing like what I was looking for, more like a margarita. Next time, I'll stick with beer or wine. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere in the room is vibrant, though a little loud for easy conversation. Street parking is difficult, but there is a commercial parking structure close by.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
