Mabel Gray Hazel Park Reviews from The Last Year
I don't know what happened to my old review from here, but
I don't know what happened to my old review from here, but this is the best restaurant. It maybe only competes with Selden for that spot locally. Most things you try will knock your socks off. I can't hype this place enough.

Fantastic experience! We did the tasting menu and had a great time. The food was amazing and portions were perfect. The ambiance is different that expected but we loved the decor and style. It was a bit loud which made it hard for us to even hear each other across the table but maybe the dining room would be better for that. Service was great, very attentive and excellent explanations of each dish. Look forward to dining there again on another special occasion, it is on the pricier side but I think we got our money's worth!
Unpopular opinion, I know.
As many do, I waited a long time to get a reservation and had high expectations. My wife finally managed to get us in on my birthday. Service was 5 stars, food 4.5 stars, but ambiance 2 stars. Ambiance: It was so loud that we could not hear the descriptions of our food (particularly problematic since I have multiple food sensitivities). I kept thinking someone would realize and turn down the music but no luck. I guess many people like that vibe? Service:everyone was kind and things were pretty prompt. Food: due to the rotating menu and my food sensitivities, this was a tricky situation. I love love loved the cornbread with shishitos - as an appetizer/side. I thought there would be more vegetarian entree-like options. It was 90 degrees out and cauliflower cheese soup was one of the few vegetarian dishes. While this soup was absolutely delicious, it didn't seem like it had considered the season at all. The beet salad was nice but did not have main course energy, and the beet chunks were so large I had to cut them up with a knife. My wife said that her raw oyster was great (I can't eat shellfish) and enjoyed her beef tips. There are NO mocktails on the menu; if you're sober you'll need to ask the bartender to make something for you. Overall, the menu seemed stuck about 5 years ago. Here's the reason they're getting 3 instead of 4 stars: the bar stools were impossibly uncomfortable. We arrived early for our reservation and thought we'd be seated at the bar while waiting for our table (no, I don't know what the phrasing on our reservation was- it definitely didn't ask if we were capable of perching precariously on an oversized square stool for an entire meal). This is the only meal I can ever remember leaving in the middle of - after taking two walks to get my toes to wake back up in an attempt to make it through my wife's tasting courses. My wife's theory (she's an osteopath) is that the stools were perfectly comfortable for someone who is young, 5'11", and 190 pounds, so if that's you, you'll enjoy bar seating at Mabel Gray. We looked around for a while to see if there was anywhere to move us to or at least a different style stool. The square element also made it hard to get onto and off particularly because of how close together everyone was seated (which was awkward because of the need to get up and walk around for relief). I ended up eating a super expensive meal out of takeout containers on my birthday. Look, I know Mabel Gray doesn't need my business and will keep putting bottoms in chairs no matter what I say. But for my fellow people with food and seating sensitivities, this place is not for you. I would be ashamed of myself as a hostess if I asked my guests to sit in such a painful situation for the duration of a meal, when many more ergonomic stools are available that could fit the aesthetic. I'll be supporting restaurants that take their duties as hosts seriously- and fortunately there are many to choose from in metro Detroit nowadays.
Oh, Mabel Gray.
I'd been wanting to come here for years, but it just never worked out. My boyfriend remembered that it was on my bucket list, so he was able to make a reservation for my birthday (likely because it was on a weekday in February). We had seats at the bar, which was great, because we felt like we got the best and most attentive service. Every single staff member was so kind, gracious, and knowledgeable. We could tell each person was dedicated to making sure we had a great experience. There was no pretension here, which we absolutely appreciated. The decor was so much fun, and I loved that they had their own candles in the bathroom! We decided to go with the tasting menu after we checked with staff and they assured us that they could make modifications so that my dishes would be gluten free. I loved every single dish, and especially my toffee pudding with brûlée bananas (it reminded me of banoffee from an Irish pub). Thanks for such a wonderful and memorable experience; it's been our best yet in all of metro Detroit! We recommend Mabel Gray to all our friends and can't wait to come back here with them soon!
Mabel Gray never disappoints.
Always a 10/10 experience with unique, seasonal food. I'll be dreaming about this lamb chop for the rest of my life.

I recently indulged in the 8-course meal, and it was truly amazing! Each portion was generous and satisfying. Not only did we get to sample off-menu delights, but also chef favorites, adding to the culinary adventure. The service was top-notch too. For $90, the meal included a delightful array: 2 Clams, Iceberg Crab Caesar Salad, Tomato Soup, Shrimp, Fried Cheese, Sorbet, Lamb Chops, and Orange Cake. Every dish burst with flavor, making it an unforgettable dining experience. I definitely plan to come here A LOT!
My favorite Michigan resteraunt.
A hidden gem. Wonderful service and ambiance. Can't wait to return.
Mabel Gray has made its mark here.
If you're new to be adventurous in the food scene this is a good place to break you in. Very friendly and knowledgeable service. Incredible tastey food without feeling uncomfortable if you're not up to par with incrowd. Laidback
My favorite restaurant.
I love food, drinks, and surprises. They have all 3. The tasting menu with the wine pairing is amazing. Not that much food for the money but worth it for the overall experience. .
Mabel Gray's food is always amazing and wonderful.
The service is fine and the price is right. Go as often as possible.
Absolutely unreal from the minute we walked in and until
Absolutely unreal from the minute we walked in and until the very end. It's been my opinion that not everyone wants to invest in an official Michelin star, but let me clarify, their service, food, & ambiance perform as if they have three stars. Now let's dig in to the yummiest part - every bite of food! Dined here with three others on a Saturday night. We were able to snag an 8:30 reservation the night before which worked out perfectly. Parking is easy with a lot next to their building and plenty of space on the streets (where we had to park). Natalie was our server and she was exceptional! The entire staff gives off a family energy and they very clearly work hard as a team. With an open view to the kitchen, you can tell the communication is clear and everyone seemed happy (of course this view is surface level only). Three of us ordered the tasting menu and my husband ordered the Cast Iron King Crab Legs as his entree. The tasting menu comes with eight courses, with one being a bite sized palate cleanser. Am I bummed that it's counted towards the courses, yes. Do I wish I could order a tub of it and eat it nightly, also hell yes. Even with the other seven courses, it was still well worth the $89. We also added the Gem Salad, Nonnas Meatballs, and extra oysters for the table. The only food I didn't take a picture of was the salad and palate cleanser. Baby Gem Salad $16 - absolutely unreal. Probably my favorite dish because of the tart and nutty flavors and being doused in sherry dijon vinaigrette. I'm determined to remake it since I live so far away and believe an addiction has been created. It's huge and plenty for a party of four - or just yourself if you're anything like me. King Crab Legs $100 was a very healthy portion as well. Loved the hush puppies with a slight kick, soft center, and perfectly crunchy exterior. Easy to "peel" and eat so leave the bib at home. Nonna's Meatballs $7 per meatball. Loved the Sunday sauce and it was a hearty meatball with a kick - just the way I like 'em. TASTING MENU $89 3/9/24 - Radish carpaccio was delicious and so very flavorful. - Chicken and duck liver mousse toast was everyone's top choice and my second (because I loved the salad so much). But you can eff me right up with a pate that has such a creamy and smooth finish like theirs. SO DAMN GOOD. - Seafood dumplings came with two and a beautiful light broth with the ever slightest kick from jalapeño. They also had a sweet corn that knocked my socks off. The sweet & spicy was the perfect compliment and the dumplings were fluffy and filled with flavor. - Palate cleanser was a ginger blackberry sorbet I believe. I couldn't help but take it in one bite haha. So refreshingly delicious. Wonder if they'll start selling by the pint... - Braised short rib and polenta was very comforting. With short rib almost falling apart. Just so tender and juicy. It complemented the perfectly cooked brussel sprouts that were an added surprise. - Octopus kebab was probably my least favorite but still very good. I found it to be way too tough to chew and that you really had to chew it. Loved the tzatziki it was paired with and was sure to add veggies and mint to every bite. - Raw and baked oysters were also served as a course and we wish we ordered a dozen more! The group was hesitant about baked oysters over raw but they turned out to be the favorite overall. - Olive oil cake and lemon finished off the tasting perfectly. It was light and refreshing with every flavor standing out. My husband who's not a fan of lemon even loved it. Natalie was also so kind to treat us to the dark chocolate cheesecake after such a special dinner together and even though we were well over the edge, we indulged and there was not one regret! Definitely order this if you're not as gluttonous as we are and only want one dessert.
This restaurant is thought through from menu, to service,
This restaurant is thought through from menu, to service, to dish to drink. Although the building is a little tight on space, they do their best to establish a cozy, fancy, homey dinner setting. I highly recommend allowing the restaurant and service to take care of you and order the tasting sample 8 course dinner paired with their drink package.
This has been a must try for while.
It exceeded expectations. Our waiter was beyond attentive, even telling us we're not to lift a finger when my partner attempted to pour his own water lol. The courses came out perfectly timed. Everything down to the grapefruit palette cleanser was just beyond anything I've ever had. We opted for the tasting menu which was the perfect variety to get a taste of different items on the menu. We will definitely be back. The menu changes weekly which gives patrons a chance to try something new.
We waited for years to eat here.
..and were sorely disappointed. I'll admit, the food was fantastic. But it's not worth the price or the substandard service. We got the tasting menu, and they were bringing courses out so fast some of us didn't even get a chance to finish the previous one before the next arrived. I had to ask them to slow down the service. When the bill came, we were surprised by how much it was! We paid it and as we were finishing our drinks, the host came over and told us that they needed our table as another party was coming in! I have never in my life been asked to leave a restaurant, especially one that cost this much money! That was our first and will be our last time eating at Mabel Gray.
My wife and I lucked out.
No reservation and someone had cancelled. The service and ambience are top notch. We Started with bowl garlic fries (but the recipe was more intricate) then shared a fettuccine garlic cream sauce with chicken on the side. (I thought the noodles were a bit over cooked) then we had the Charcoal gold head on shrimp, which were amazing. Then best part was the chocolate cheese cake with peanut butter cups and caramel... Amazing!!!! I had to beers and my wife had rose. The 4 stars because of cost but mainly because I wish they had more vegetarian options. All in all this was an amazing restaurant and I will be returning again. Side note warm up the fries next day in air fryer and they were still great!!
Unpopular opinion here, I know, but I have to say this
Unpopular opinion here, I know, but I have to say this place was not worth the hype, cost of meal, amount of food, and difficulty getting the reservation. I went here with my fiancé as a belated birthday meal, and have been wanting to try if for the past 1.5 years since we moved here; however, I feel it fell short of my expectations. Was the food interesting and unique? Yes Have I tasted much tastier food for the price? Definitely yes Was the service and presentations top nouch? Yes Would I go back again? Probably not, it was a good experience overall but I think is much better food options in the metro Detroit area and downtown area that I would rather go to. For the record, we did try one entire tasting menu (8 mini courses) which included oysters, mushroom soup, a charcuterie situation, apple salad, fried cauliflower dish, etc. Also got an additional entrée on the side. The only item that I really did find was amazing was the lamb chop with special salsa on top! Like I said, food was really interesting and good, but for paying $200 for the whole thing including 2 cocktails, 1 tasting menu, and 1 entrée, I expected more quantity of food. However, I will say the cocktails, especially the G&T were incredible and would highly recommend.
Delicious food, cocktails, excellent service.
Intimate with lovely lighting, James makes a wonderful experience.
Such an experience at Mabel Gray.
Always have different menu items each time I return. Great food as always. Would recommend getting the chefs tasting if you do go.
This was eyes-rolled-back-in-your-head good.
It took months to get a reservation for 6:00 pm. The 4:00 and 8:00 options are easier to come by. When you make a reservation, you need to put a $25 deposit per person. It'll go towards your meal but it's to prevent no-shows. We each ordered the tasting menu - 8 courses. Each course was perfectly timed. Each course was very unique and the portions were reasonable. The place isn't very big but it looks like they are expanding! The menu changes every Tuesday. I can't wait to go back.
Disappointed with this place and Chef Rigato is overrated.
Would not recommend if you're in the area, go somewhere else.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
